Who’s had a great spring? Cordy Glenn, Bobo answers (with list of spring award winners)

I asked Mike Bobo after Georgia’s football practice Thursday to name an offensive player who’s had a great spring.

Bobo, the offensive coordinator, didn’t hesitate to single out . . . left guard Cordy Glenn.

So it was no surprise that when Georgia announced its annual spring football awards this morning, Glenn was tabbed as the offense’s MVP.

“I’d say Cordy Glenn has had an outstanding spring,” Bobo said Thursday. “Just outstanding, the way he’s worked, the way he’s competed.

“He’s had the right mindset every day: ‘I’m coming out to try to get better.’ He’s got tremendous talent, but just to see the improvement in him, the knowledge of what we’re doing. . . .

“Early on, obviously as a freshman, he had to depend on a lot of guys next to him to help him out. Now he pretty much knows what we’re doing, and he’s able to execute and then use his God-given ability to dominate. And that’s what kind of player we think he can be.”

Mark Richt this morning announced the full list of annual spring football awards:

The Coffee County Hustle Award (given to the players showing the most desire during spring drills): tailback Washaun Ealey and defensive linemen Demarcus Dobbs and DeAngelo Tyson.

MVP (offense): Glenn.

MVP (defense): outside linebacker Justin Houston.

True Grit Award (offense): fullback Shaun Chapas.

True Grit Award (defense): linebacker Akeem Dent.

Most Improved player (offense): tailback Carlton Thomas.

Most improved player (defense): cornerbacks Vance Cuff and Brandon Boykin.

Outstanding walk-ons (offense): fullbacks Cameron Allen and Kevin Lanier.

Outstanding walk-on (defense): outside linebacker Reuben Faloughi.

And another bit of good news about Faloughi: Richt said he has been awarded a scholarship.

Faloughi attended Evans High School (near Augusta) and turned down Division I-AA scholarship offers to walk on at Georgia.

“We knew he was a very good player out of high school,” Richt said earlier this week. “We knew he had other opportunities coming out of high school, but he really wanted to come to Georgia and prove he could do it. He’s doing very well.”

Funny….none of the QBs mentioned in these awards….you would think that with the numbers Murray and Metz have been putting up, one may get an award. But then again, that might as well tip the cap as to who the starter will be.

Great news. I think our o-line will be outstanding if no injuries and if Trinton gets back its going to be even better. Carlton Thomas is great news too as most improved player.

Also Justin Houston might be the most athletic player on earth. S00000 excited to see him play LB.

The gelling of the O line will make for a good transition for a new QB & the running game should take much pressure off the QB to have to do “too much”..

Glenn being the MVP of the spring is very good news. With Glenn to rally around maybe the potential of this O line will really shine. They should have been our highlight last season. All the potential there to be overwhelming and let UGA run the ball like we all remember in the good days of Dawg football.

Faloughi is a great story. I think it’s awesome that a lineman (Glenn) got O-MVP. I think it’s even more awesome that Ealey, the heir apparent to “star player” status, got a hustle award. Throw in a fullback with true grit and some hustling improving Defensive guys who are not resting on any laurels, and I am liking the attitude coming out of this spring a whole lot. BTW, this is pretty much the answer to the Junkyard Blawg, as well. I want to see hustle and desire. I want to hear about hustle and effort and desire. Go dawgs! I haven’t got this kind of feeling from a team in about four seasons.

Someone mentioned the UGA trophy case, or should say trophy cases: 132 SEC championships, 37 NCAA titles. I am guessing UGA has more national championships in more sports than any other SEC team. Here they are: men’s sports- football, baseball, golf, tennis. Women’s sports- tennis, golf, swimming, gymnastics. Now that is a well-balanced athletic program! Let’s hear it for the Dogs!

Ah…the GT fans on here trying to find something to throw at us when they know another butt whipping is coming this season. Glenn is a monster….340 lbs, 500 lb bench press. He’ll be a first round draft pick. I loved the way him and Ben Jones and Clint Boling steamrolled Tech’s pathetic little DL last season. Morgan’s gone to the pros (not the he helped them much last season against us) so this season ought to be even more of a mauling in the trenches. Early prediction: UGA 45 Yech 17 Ealey & King: combined 345 yards rushing.

How long did it take spurrier to win a NC? how bout Meyer, Saban, Miles, fulmer.. CMR MIGHT be the 3rd best coach in the SEC sorry doggies that’s not good enough!! As I said….GT fans coming up with anything they can think of to put down UGA…take the previous comment by “UGA??? LOL”…here is a classic example of a bitter Tech fan who is still upset about their defeat at the hands of the Dawgs. Notice him (or her) trying to throw out everything he can think of to insult MR and the UGA program, even attacking his Christian and moral ethics. This is typical of a liberal, pathetic, world of warcraft playing Techie who grits his teeth everytime he thinks about Washaun Ealey running through the Tech defense like it wasn’t even there. PJ is nowhere near the coach or the man that MR is. MR is a man of intergrity and all PJ can do is throw out stupid comments like the “hit them in the nose” thing. That was something my 8 year old would say for crying out loud! Tech is no where near the program that UGA is and never will be. The best team they had in ages was defeated by the worse team we’ve had in ages. They had their chance to shift the balance of power, but they failed. Don’t whine about it now. Tech is back where they belong….on bottom.
