How coaches divided up the Dogs for G-Day (with “Red” and “Black” team rosters)

Related report: Injuries sideline several Dogs as spring practice winds down.

ATHENS -– Georgia coaches Thursday divided the team into two squads for Saturday’s G-Day game, putting the first-string offense on the “Red” team and the first-string defense on the “Black” team.

Two caveats:

  • All three quarterbacks –-Aaron Murray, Logan Gray and Zach Mettenberger — are listed on the “Red” roster, but they will rotate between the two sides, coach Mark Richt said.
  • And the “Black” team will actually be wearing white jerseys (with black numbers).

The G-Day game –- the annual culmination of Georgia’s spring practice – begins at 2 p.m. Saturday in Sanford Stadium. Admission is free, and the game will be televised live on CSS.

The game will provide fans a glimpse of Georgia’s new 3-4 defense and quarterback competition, although, as usual in such games, coaches will be careful not to show the parts of the playbook they don’t want real opponents to see.

“I know the fans are probably waiting for a lot of this, that and the other,” Richt said. “We might do this and that, but not the other. We will do some things, but we definitely don’t want to show too much.”

The “Red” roster includes both of the top two tailbacks, Washaun Ealey and Caleb King, although King is not expected to play after missing the past four practices with a strained knee.  Backup tailbacks Carlton Thomas and Dontavius Jackson are on the “Black” roster.

The game will feature 12-minute quarters, Richt said.

Here are the rosters (with the caveat that even players who are out for the spring  — Trinton Sturdivant, Tanner Strickland, Justin Anderson, etc. — were assigned to a team even though they won’t be playing):

Look at all the Doofeys on here. Tech must be out for spring break.

KimZ your package stinks like dead fish.

Realistic Guy from Athens: “Who is going to be UGA’s coach next season? Coming off of the statistically worse 3 seasons in Georgia history,” This shows you know absolutely nothing about UGA’s history and most likely nothing about football.

Toothless, Element, Popi…you Poindexters need to put down the game controllers and go find a girlfriend or “life partner”.

Once again you hayseeds are showing how much you want for intellect. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, it’s just that your’s are stupid.

And wash those skid-marks-of-Buddha off your foreheads.

Who is the Ricky Lowe TE? I don’t remember reading much on his recruitment, but he is already 1st team. Do you know much about him? He is a big boy that is for sure, probably a run blocking TE, but just curious if he can run and catch. Go Dawgs

Element of surprise….

“You mean we may finally see the new wrinkles in the vanilla offense. Will it be 3rd and long and Boo Boo calls a draw coach?” LOL. Great comment and so true.

And for the record, am I the only that seems to think that these teams were divided up in a weird way. You have Washuan, AJ, and all 3 QB’s on the Red team. Who’s gonna QB the black team? Are they going to run the triple option. Looks like a lot of thought and attention to detail went into that one! Jeez!!

13 NATIONAL TITLES – 22 SEC TITLES!!!

Enjoy the weather – enjoy the spring game.

Guys got to remember – spring is about fundlementals, teaching, implementation, evaluating, and fitness. Do not put too much stock in Spring sessions – although it is fun to watch and follow.

I have been critical of many programs over the last few years – including Bama during our drama and probation period – and also UGA – as they did not upcycle as quickly as they should have after 2005. Going 10-10 in the SEC EAST the last 4 years maybe great for Kentucky, SC or a Vanderbilt – but not for UGA.

I was real critical about UGA over the last two years – mainly because to the defense was not very good and the youth of the O-Line…. felt that UGA was overrated by the media – too high of expectations by the fans.

I also was very perplexed about the coverage kickoff schemes UGA continued to use when they have had a top notch kicker.

In 2009 – I predicted 6 to 7 regular season wins for UGA and got hammered by the EMOTIONAL fans that do not realistically evaluate schedule – roster – strength of opponents, returning starters, coaching, trends, etc.

With that said – for 2010 – I think UGA is poised for a very good season. Certainly – a lot of IF’s. But look at the strengths:

Offense
1. O-Line should be very good – and has depth
2. WR position should be very good – lacks some depth
3. TE position – very strong – has depth
4. Tailbacks look Good – no real superstars – but good none the less.
5. QB position should be good to start the year – and improve as the season goes on – these guys have been preparing for this moment – and are more physically talented than Joe Cox. (By the way, the offense around Cox let him down last year – he was acutally a pretty good QB – IMO)

Defense
1. Athletic and Fast
2. There is Talent – and D-Line should hold it’s own and improve.
3. New scheme that will attack and look for takeaways
4. New D coaching staff that brings credibility and should make better on field adjustments.

Special Teams
1. Punting and Field Goal units will be awesome – again
2. Kickoff coverage – UGA should be much better

SCHEDULE:
OOC Schedule – GT and Colorado – UGA should match up well
SEC – MS STATE, ARK rotate in – no BAMA or LSU

Remember my mantra – It’s not about the wins – it’s all about the losses. At the end of the year – you are judged on your losses. UGA plays FLORIDA, TENNESSEE, AUBURN, GEORGIA TECH, SOUTH CAROLINA, KENTUCKY, VANDERBILT and two other SEC WEST teams every year. WHO cares what your OOC schedule is. That is a pretty tough schedule to negotiate on it’s own merrit.

The IF’s
– UGA”s defense needs to get game ready in a hurry – with the road game to Columbia
– QB needs to run the offense – not be the man – and the offense just has to do their job.
– Be Patient – UGA should be a killer second half team in 2010 – as they wear down opponents – and put teams away in the 4th Q.

IF UGA wins in Columbia – we will know this team is ready – and is prepared – and has a great shot at being undefeated come JAX.

Predicting a 9 to 10 REG SEASON wins for UGA – could see them win 11 at best.

The Big games:
SOUTH CAROLINA game is huge! a TRUE 50/50 game.
ARKANSAS will be competitive – UGA should win
COLORADO – Colorado will be stubborn. UGA will win.
TENNESSEE – UGA should show NO mercy on this team. Expect UT to fight well.
KY – UGA should win this game – KY is no push over.
FLORIDA – Gators will be favored – Gators are young, athletic, talented, and Urban HAS gotton the job done
AUBURN – 50/50 – Auburn on the upcycle
GT – rivalry game – UGA should be a better team than GT – but you never know in a rivalry game. CPJ is a very good coach.

If UGA has a great year – and I think they will – then I would expect this will carry over in recruiting – with some impact for class of 2011 – but bigger impact for 2012.

IF UGA loses to South Carolina – struggles against ARK and KY – get’s beat by Florida, Auburn and struggles against GT. Then Richt will be on the HOT SEAT.

ROLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL TIDE!!!

The only things you are going to be swallowing are your moronic, fantasy-induced words, a$$hole.

Chew carefully. We wouldn’t want you to CHOKE or anything like that.

And by the way, you GAYnesville boys will have at least two or three losses and your coach will be hospitalized by the time we meet, so bite that!

Bama Stan,

I’m saying 8-4 and will be surprised if we do better. If we go 7-5 or 6-6 then Richt should definitely be on the hot seat. I actually think Arkansas, Auburn, and MSU will be tough outs. I can see the Dawgs losing to a South Carolina but beating a Florida.

One observation that I have had about the SEC the last few years is that every team( except maybe Vandy) has enough talent on their roster that if they happen to put it together for a game, they have the capability to blow a team out. The Vols are like this. They will put it all togther against UGA with a blowout win, play Bama tough, but then get blown out by Ole Miss or Va. Tech. That just goes to show you that just because a team is struggling, that doesn’t mean they can’t still beat you.
