Backup tailback Dontavius Jackson: ‘I was, like, the peacemaker’ in taxi incident

ATHENS – Georgia backup tailback Dontavius Jackson said Thursday that he is the player Athens-Clarke County police described as the “peacemaker” in an alleged attack on a married couple in an Athens taxi last month.

“Yeah, I was in the cab. I was, like, the peacemaker,” Jackson said.  “But as far as in-depth, I’m not allowed to speak on it because it’s still under investigation.”

Police earlier this week said no UGA players were offenders in the incident but that one  player was in the taxi van at the time.  “The investigation revealed that [the player] acted as a peacemaker and tried to calm the situation,” the police statement said. Police had declined to name the player.

Jackson is a sophomore who played in four games last season, gaining 38 yards on four carries.

No big deal. This could happen to anyone. Glad to hear the kid was trying to stop the fight etc.

SEC Observer… I played for Richt and can assure you that we would NEVER practice on a Sunday for obvious reasons as decided by our head coach. Fact of the matter is that most players like to blow off a little steam in the OFFseason. What happens in the spring does not affect the outcome in the fall for the TEAM, other than learning the playbook (not an issue with D-Jack) or fighting for a spot on the depth chart. D-Jack is a good kid and did the right thing. Leave it at that, because Lord knows a lot of us may not have done the right thing under such circumstances. Take a lap.

Sorry Guy!

By the way…who gets married while in college…and still goes downtown? Does that seem weird to anyone else? Most people who get married young aren’t exactly the drinking type… Wonder if they are those people that protest blindfolded outside of Toppers….hmmm?

TO THE ARROGANT, IGNORANT AND MORONS OUT THERE who think it’s unusual to be out at 2AM on a weekend night and to those who want to fault him for his friends actions. He is a college KID doing what college KIDS do! You either never went to college or you didn’t enjoy it.

One of the lessons I learned was IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE DUMB, YOU GOTTA BE TOUGH! The only reason I’d question his previous night’s whereabouts is if he was late to practice the next day… If not, it’s a non-issue and you MORONS need get a life bc evidently you’ve never had one…

On the issue of the company he was keeping, I don’t blame him if his friends did something stupid. I’ve been out on the towns and had friends act stupid due to clouded (or drowned) judgment. It wasn’t my fault they couldn’t control themselves. I even had a roommate flip up a girl’s skirt as she walked by. I cussed him out before she could and he apologized and she was fine with it. Bottom line – you can’t control other people, you can only control what you do in response and it sounds like he did the right thing here. Kudos to him and how CMR handled the whole process.

I love the Racist b@stards on this site. I have seen more than a few white Frat boys, get hammered and fight over nothing, yet they are never called thugs or judged as harshly as you have talked about these guys.
And then to question their intelligence simply because they were black. Really? But I bet you are not racist are you? I’m just another black guy pullig the race card?
Was our fair skined quarterback a thug a few weeks ago when he got the drunk and disorderly charge?
How about the ND recruit that fell from a balcony while talking smack to people in another room?
Of course they could have been ignorant @ssholes, but the racist comments sicken me.

“The Gators have made regular appearances on the police blotter since Meyer took over the program before the 2005 season. At least 30 Florida players have” from CFN

This is not intedend as a slap against Florida. It is just pointing out the obvious. Even the best programs have problems with young men. Talking about kids getting in trouble is almost as stupid as commenting on academics at a university. All schools have good and bad kids. All schools have good and bad students. But I think it is o.k. to comment on coaches having “man boobs” (CPJ)

If your coach had man boobs, your football players would not be out at 2 a.m.. They would be at school nursing and waiting by the computer to post “thug” or “hamburger flipper” on a BLOG discussing a team “that’s not relevant.”

The coverage of this incident really shows how far the AJC has fallen as a legitimate news organization. If you want details about the story, including the police report, you can easily find it through smaller newspapers in the area. If you haven’t figured it out yet, all the AJC does is throws out inflammatory headlines and a quick summary, then sits back an watches the page views add up as the dumb masses post insults back and forth.

So, with that in mind…

I only briefily read through all of the blogs but I am very disappointed in most. Don’t you so called fans realize that your support is why some of the kids actually make it in life. If we don’t support this young guy it could ruin his career. Innocent till proven guilty, right? So many people are so quick to judge but if they were in the same situation they would be pleading innocence. Some people make me sick. I wish the best for all the guys. Sometimes people are in the wrong place but give these young guys the benefit of the doubt.

notso…our players are not innocent even if guilty. They are guilty if guilty…But, there is that little piece of paper called the “Bill of Rights.” Our soldiers defend it everyday. That piece of paper says every citizen, UGA player or not, is innocent until proven guilty. The only thing DJ has been proven guilty of is being out late at night when he may or may not have had practice the next day. Now, I personally am going to stick with that little piece of paper, and assume his innocence until something is proven otherwise.

i find it unbelievable that you would WINE about people jumping to conclusions over this incident.

lets look at the whole ball of wax shall we?

in the 10 years you have been at athens you ROUTINELY have in the neighborhood of 10 of your players arrested every year. that is over 100 players being fitted for your game day special uniforms of black an white stripes. i dare say that georgia tech would have a hard time coming up with the names of 10 gt players that have been arrested in the last 50 years let alone 100 in 10.

of those 100 or so players that have been arrested…. how many were exonerated? i would guess a half dozen at best.

reverend richt, you run a school for teaching young men how to act like thugs not a football program. is it any wonder that people jump to conclusions given your recent track record of player arrests?

and for you dumb assed dogs who keep bringing up the comment that cpj made about smashing somebody in the mouth….. lets remember WHY he made that comment in the first place eh? to refresh your collective memories… a number of uga players charged the gt sidelines during the game last year and confronted our coach.

if one of you ugagers came into my house and cursed at me and tossed insults i would do more than just smash your mouth. its one thing for players to jaw at each other on the field. its quite another for opposing players (as in more than one) to charge the opposing teams sideline and confront the head coach.

get it now?

probably not. of course what would one expect from the fans of a school that is urine stained and trash covered .

When asked about the psyche of Jackets fans in the wake of Saturday’s loss, Johnson didn’t skip a beat.

We dumb assed dog fans will await your posting of the real story of our players rushing the opposing sideline to “confront” the Head Coach.

“Why would the University of Georgia define Georgia Tech?” Johnson said…….

Maybe if he entered a UGA blog on any given day and polled the multitude of tech fans trolling in there, they might have a theory for him.

Hey Rev: W’in 5 clicks I had the names of 8 players arrested – Talent, Bell, Reese, Shaw, Mooney, Lavin, Salisbury. Some of the charges were underage drinking (whoopee), rape, possesion of stolen property, drug charges, brandishing a firearm (toward family members), and beating a woman up (3 involved in that one) – was that what CPJ was talking about when he said its okay to hit someone in the mouth? Classy group of kids you have there! Lets not even get started on how many ineligible players you played during the O’liary years!

Bottom line: we are all on slippery slopes when dealing with these privileged kids and we shouldn’t be surprised in how they act when they step out of the spotlight – they are kids! Some have more common sense than others and we can only hope our Coaches hold their feet to the fire and engrain some sense of dignity in them before he has to turn them loose to the next step in their lives…

There are 150000 people in the Athens area. There are 2 million in the Atlanta area. THe AJC headline usually have 5 murders, 4 rapes and 10 other bad crimes in the Atlanta area. In Athens headlines usually read about underage drinking, ride on the sidewalks, or alcohol possession. It is easy to fid a Ga student doing one of these bad crims in Athens.
