(Scrimmage statistics are here.)
ATHENS -– After Georgia’s second scrimmage of the spring Saturday in Sanford Stadium, coach Mark Richt said: “Today, you walk away feeling like we’re in good shape” at quarterback.
Three quarterbacks battling for the starting job — Logan Gray, Aaron Murray and Zach Mettenberger — shared snaps, as they have throughout spring practice. And by all accounts from the intra-squad scrimmage, which was closed to the public and media, each of the three had a strong day.
“I’m not going to get into any pecking order today,” Richt said afterward. But he said, for the first time, that coaches will come up with a quarterback depth chart after spring practice concludes.
“We’ll rack ‘em where we think they are,” Richt said. “We won’t necessarily say, ‘This guy is the starter,’ but we might give a 1-2-3. We might give a co-No. 1 and a 2. . . . We’ll give some kind of indication of where we think they stack up going into the fall. . . . I just think it would be good at the end of the spring to give everybody a feeling of where we think they are.”
Richt added that he doubts “very seriously” he’d go so far after spring ball as to “say someone has won the job.”
Whatever the depth chart reveals, Richt acknowleged that Mettenberger will not start the season opener against Lousiana-Lafayette on Sept. 4 because he faces a suspension of at least one game under UGA Athletic Association policy for his alcohol-related arrest near Valdosta last month.
In Saturday’s scrimmage, Murray completed 13 of 19 passes for 159 yards and one touchdown, Mettenberger 10 of 16 for 126 yards and two TDs, and Gray 7 of 11 for 111 yards and a touchdown. Murray and Mettenberger threw one interception each, Gray none.
“The quarterbacks, I was very impressed,” Richt said. “They just had a very good command of what was going on out there. They moved well in the pocket. They made nice scrambles. . . . The throwing and catching, I thought, was outstanding. . . . Very accurate, just all of them, putting the ball on the money.”
Richt apparently wasn’t the only one impressed. “Some of the officials [working the scrimmage] even mentioned, ‘You guys are really throwing the ball well,’ ” Richt said.
Said Gray: “It seemed like our whole offense, QB’s included, just had a pretty solid day.”
“The offense was real good today,” Murray said. “I think we had our best day.”
The quarterbacks apparently have no inside information about what a post-spring depth chart might look like.
The coaches “haven’t really given us any insight or let us know yet,” Murray said. “They’ve done a good job of rotating us and making sure we had equal time with the first team and second team and stuff like that. So I really couldn’t say who’s where right now.”

Combined with last weeks stats, here is where the QBs stand after 2 scrimmages. definately looking like a 2 horse race now.
Aaron Murray – 23 Comp 34 Att 284 Yards 1 int 2 TD 67.7% Comp
Zack Mettenberger – 17 Comp 26 Att 283 Yards 2 Int 3 TD 65.4% Comp

I think Richt wants a dual-threat QB this fall. So my guess is it’s going to be Murray #1, Gray #2. Hard to discount Gray’s experience in the program and his athleticism. From AJ’s comments, Gray has been excelling in practice and leadership. That counts. Mett will likely face a multi-game suspension, all but taking himself out of the QB race with his off-the-field decision making.
The stats are not just scrimmages, but all of practices too.

BETTER START LOOKING – I think you’re missing the obvious. We’re looking at 3 QB’s with virtually no experience. 2 freshman and a RS Soph who hasn’t played a dozen snaps. There’s no way in hayull you are gonna have a clear cut #1 from that group after 8 practices. No way you risk your entire season by rushing to judgement here. It looks for all the world like the 2 freshmen are pretty even and bring different skill sets to the game. Does look to me like they oughta drop Gray from the mix, but no reason to name a #1 right now – give both murray and mett the reps.

Champaign Dawg…nice thought out response, which I appreciate…let’s say Met and Murray are both equal in passing stats…next, take a look at the wheels, Murray gained positive yds (37) w/ his legs, while Met would have been sacked for losses, or made some bad decisions w/ the ball…these aren’t live scrimmages are they (QB’s can’t be hit and they finish out their plays), heck the g-day game wasn’t live last year allowing Cox & Gray to make some completions that wouldn’t have been made in a regular game (watch the tape)…Murray and Gray are similar in styles and the offensive line would be running the same type of plays…now w/ Met, you’d have to adjust the play book and the adjust the play-calling to meet his limited drop back style…Murray could back up Met, Gary could back up Met and the offense would actually have more plays to run, however you limit the play calling when Met would come in to back up either of these guys…Met is a statue that will try and force the ball…can’t have it both ways

poor florida, their ‘gatorade player of the year’ continues ot dissapoint.
1 td, and 4 sacks today. the back-up AGAIN beat Brantley and got 2 td’s.
The only positive for brantley? his 68% completion rate today brought him up to over 50% completion. brantley went 13 for 31 last sat, and 15 for 22 this sat., so that’s 28 for 53 in the last 2 scrimmages for brantley.
brantley brought his completion rate up to 53%.

Mett also yielded two sacks while Murray has gained 37 positive yards. We don’t know what kind of situation were they working on, red zone, short yardage etc.
Bottom line is that both Mettenberger and Murray seem to have some potential and the close competition will make the eventual starter that much better. The QB situation is in good hands.

Brantley played behind the second/third string line including the center who has only been playing the position for two weeks (converted tackle). Meyer is mainly holding out the starters and some backups to see what the (real) young guys can do. There were about 10 bad snaps today that really disrupted the timing (obviously). Still with all that, Brantley had a decent day and Trey Burton is surprising everybody with his advanced play. Jordon Reed is playing lights out at the TE position and also at wildcat QB.Nobody down here is worried about it, that what spring is for is to work the kinks out and develop some depth….

we don’t care about whether our qb can “run”, we have 3 excellent rb’s. We don’t care how many sacks our qb takes, Tebow took over 25 last year.
we care about how many interceptions the guy throws. And murray is leading the team there, so he’s dropped to #3 on the depth chart, by anyone’s estimation.

A guy comes outta H.S., and you guys are ready to annoint him “God” like status at QB, because he was ranked #3,6,11 in the country. Most of you don’t, can’t, and never will be able to tell the real difference in talent. “Better Start Looking”, at least you offer some insight as to the changes Bobo would have to make, letting me know somebody has some football knowledge, and not just blog skills. This my fellow bloggers is a crucial time for both Coach Richt, and Coach Bobo(remember ya’ll was calling for his head a few months ago. While so many of you look at only physical talent, none of you seem to concentrate on the mental abilities of any of them. Mattenberger has made a mistake(haven’t we all) but that doesn’t exclude him, Murray is being heralded as “The Next Big Thang” because of what he did as a senior in H.S., and he is genuinely good(Having Charles to throw to doesn’t hurt). Gray came in during spot duty, and looked bad in certain situations, but so did Shockley a few years ago(we all agree he turned out pretty good.) so lets give all of these guys a solid chance, and with a thicker Ealey, King, and in my opinion a player Coach Bobo has got to get on the field(Carlton Thomas) and a receiving corps that really is second to none(Not evens Florida’s)whomever stands back there has got to be ready. UGA Nation enjoy #1 this year, he has been a treat, and watch #5 (M Brown) blossom. This is our year, this is our time. UF has had they Day, UT is two years away from there’s, LSU is the team everybody never talks about outside the Bayou that is scary good this year, and Nick and company is gonna be VERY, VERY GOOD! Coach Richt this is your time, plain and simple do something with it!……Tech fans 8-1 30-24 and yes we run this state, but keep your head up you got GSU to pick on till three years from now when the talent comes there way. I think Murray will win the job. However, I think Richt will go with a dual qb rotation to get both playing time. There are enough games on the schedule to play Mettenburg and Murray with plays designed to help them both out. I havent see anything out of Georgia’s play calling that would warrent me to worry about who is doing what! The run play action passes some boot legs screen passes and thats about it. I say just play the most talented guy overall and to me that is Murray. I am not sure why Georgia does not run any crossing routes. You would think with the receivers we have those are the types of routes that would benefit them. AJ, Durham, and Wooten willbe lethal at the reciever position with Troup, M. Brown etc backing them up. We ahave great TEs who can all catch and block. The entire line coming back, i hope with a more hungrier attitude than last year. They regressed a little last year. The running backs will be solid. If BOBO dont be a BOZO, then we willbe fine.

He has amazing talent, and he’s probably over doing it right now. This kid once he settles down and adjust may be incredible. Let’s remember Dawg nation it didn’t click in Staffords head till that AU game his freshmen season(I know somebody’s gonna say these two are red shirts) but they haven’t played. Here is a description of Murray’s INT
“Vance Cuff managed to turn in the highlight of the day, making a one-handed interception of an Aaron Murray pass in the back of the end zone.”
My point earlier is that throwing a pass to the back of the end zone to AJ Green is ALWAYS a good decision. Cuff just made an outstanding play. I personally don’t care who wins as long as its the guy that gives us the best chance to win. But the idea of naming a starter based on ONE statistic in spring practice is simply retarded.
TimingPass

AM’s pass to AJ was a fade route -timing pass. DB read play and beat AJ to the ball. AJ has to either catch it or grab DB so he can’t. DB made a great one handed catch, but you can’t put this off on QB only. His job was to put it in the corner and leave it up to AJ. And if you think interceptions are what makes and breaks the QB race, then you’d better get your facts straight and check how many the QB’s have had in the other practice scrimmages that they have in almost ever practice. I heard one name that’s had three or more in a number of those situations. And the one that was thrown today may have been what Richt says was a hail mary but it was a terribly thrown pass. Richt has made it known since last year that Mett is his favorite and he backs him no matter what he does. He even gives Met credit for things AM does or indicates that AM is just lucky. It won’t be long for Richt as he worries more about getting his vehicle detailed and shirts dry cleaned than coaching. And if he continues to support players based on personal feelings instead of winning games, the good ones will stop coming and 6-6 seasons will be the norm.

And to boot. Why is it that Richt always makes excuses for Mett and gives credit to all the QB’s for scrambles, running, etc., but AM was the one that ran 3 times for 37 yards. AM could have run one of those three in for a TD but slid at the one out of respect for the Defense since the defense is not allowed to tackle. That’s a teammate and leader. But instead of giving props to AM, Richt deflects to the others, because he doesn’t want to single out anyone being better than his boy. Richt won’t make the call of who won the position, even though the facts indicates he should, because he is still holding out hope that he can keep some promise he made to Mett and his family when he recruited him. Sorry AM, but politics reigns at UGA!

Remember these stats from last spring? Aaron Murray 13-21 325 yards 62% Comp 3 TDs no Int
_________________________________ Zack Mett 2-18 43 yards 11% Comp no TD 2 Int
So far this spring:
Aaron Murray 23-34 284 yards 68% Comp 2 TDs 2 Int no sacks and 3-37 rushing
Zack Mett 17-26 283 yards 65% Comp 3 TDs 1 Int 2 sacks 0 rushing.
Now, I had been saying all season long that Aaron Murray should have been named the starter in 09. For some reason, Mr Richt is making it very difficult for Aaron Murray to become the starter because eventhough his stats is better than the other qbs it still aint good enough for Mr Richt. Something ain’t right about that picture. I still say Aaron should have been named the starter going into this season just based on what he did last spring.
Say what you want about the 2 Int Murray threw this spring, but he’s still the best qb on that team. You Zack bandwagers better be concern about the Int Zack threw because it’s a continuation from last spring.

It’s not what you do in the spring, it’s what you do in the fall. Spring allows you to really teach basics and findamentals, play the young guys and gain some depth. I would doubt that a starting UGA QB would be established in the spring.

Don’t worry dawg fans
The outlook is good,
Im certain an 8th yr senior at QB will take over
Marlon Brown might have 5 balls thrown at him this year instead of 3 since he might have learned half the playbook
Another Moreno type player will emerge after being on the bench for a yr or 2 because he didn’t know how to block or know the plays
Great off field conditioning as players continually take themselves out of the game to re-coup
Everyone will enjoy the 1st 2nd and 3rd qtr on the field dancing even though we are not even close to the game being over
Nice kickoff returns to the 40 or 45 depending on the wind and accuracy of Walsh
Some of the finest arm tackling the SEC has ever seen
Each week another suspended ball player will be allowed to play
And finally 2 of my personal favorites:
A great looking and talented UGA team goes to Jacksonville and plays like they are the Dekalb County recreation department
Last but not least the uniform switch:
This year will be 2 tone helmets, all black on one side red on the other. Tye Dyed jersey with poc-a-dot pants, candy cane socks with combat boots

Start Met and tear the playbook in half…anything that requires the QB moving, or sliding in the pocket will be history…the wild hair-doh offense will be obvious because the feet of clay will be out of the game…the defense will pin back their ears and go after ol’ slew foot…your 3rd down plays will be back to handing the ball off in a 3rd and 14…the comment about throwing to Orson Charles and how he made Murray look good is a laugh, the year before Charles transferred HS’s he caught something like 12 passes all season as a Jr…as far as comments made about Murray by Richt, well last year when Murray was putting up long TD’s passes almost ever practice, Richt said that he thought Murray was just lucky (now he may have been saying that in jest, but why say it at all? a nice at-ta-boy would have been in order)…so go ahead and start the great Met and get ready to start humming the “wait until next year blues”…that being said, there is no doubt that Met can fit into the right offense, and UGA may just be that, however there is no way he is a better QB than Murray…muck it up this CMR and you better have your bags packed and the moving van backed in…

I just laugh when I read some of the comments on here about Spring practice. The reason they “practice” is to establish who is what and to get better and to set a solid foundation for summer workouts and the fall. I have yet to see a football championship handed out in March, April or May. And some of these people on here like “Big Mike” who make comments about Brantley not having a good spring couldn’t find the UF practice fields if they were spotted the O’Dome (right next door). I’ve been to all but 2 practice sessions and I can tell you that it is far from the truth. Yes, is going through a change on offense with a new QB and some new WR starters (which is more of a concern to me), but there is talent galore on both sides of the ball. Our front 7 on D could actually be better, certainly faster, and deeper if everyone stays healthy. The main concern on D is at one corner but so far Moses Jenkins, a redshirt senior, seems to be taking ownership there. And TE, the other biggest concern on the team, is all the sudden looking pretty promising with Jordan Reed playing beyond everyone’s expectations. I’m not saying that Florida is going to be favored to win the NC this year, but they will be a definite factor in who does or doesn’t and will surprise anyone who expecting a significant dropoff just because Tebow has left the building.

3 QB Comparison from 1st 2 Scrimmages
April 3rd, 2010
11:58 pm
Stats from 1st 2 Scrimmages:
Mett
17/26-65% completion rate, 3 td’s, 283 yards, 1 interception
Murray
23/34-68% completion rate, 2 td’s, 284 yards, 2 interceptions
Gray
13/25-52% completion rate, 1 td, 148 yards, 1 interception
Mett wins in scoring and less interceptions
Murray wins in accuracy and passing yardage
Logan wins in no categories
Richt is Clueless
April 4th, 2010
12:00 am
Why is Richt liking our QB situation?
Today they:
1) threw 2 interceptions in one game
2) had 2 fumbles (did recover both though)
3) couldn’t score on 2 tries form the 1 yard line
Why did Murray get 33% more touches than Gray & Mett?
April 4th, 2010
12:13 am
I thought this was supposed to be a FAIR 3 WAY QB BATTLE? Why is Aaron Murray getting 1/3 more passes than the other 2 QB’s? Of course his stats will be higher, but Mett threw for almost as many yards on 33% less touches.

Yall know the Dawgs will need two good quarterbacks this year. Someone will get hurt. Richt is playing his cards right. Keep em both confident and prepared. Competition is good. Besides the school presidents decide who wins and loses on the field yearly anyway. Thats why richt has had to hold the players back by leaving Matinez and company to run the defense. Follow the money. They know Georgia fans will be there no matter what.

Richt already said that Mett will most likely be suspended ONE game unless something else comes up he doesn’t know about. That penalty is standard for the offense. So don’t go off with all this mutiple game penalty crap. Keep up with the facts or get off of the VENT.
Richt is Clueless
April 4th, 2010
12:25 am
There is really one thing Coach Richt better pay attention to with the QB’s and that’s the td to interception ratio.
Having a 1.0 td-to-int ratio won’t even let you finish with a 8 win season.
Td-to-Int ratio for 1st 2 Scrimmages:
1) Mett: 3 td’s/ 1 int = 3.0 td-to-int ratio
2) Logan: 1 td/1 int = 1.0 td-to-int ratio (worse than Joe Cox’s)
3) Murray:2 td’s/2 int’s = 1.0 td-to-int ratio (worse than Joe Cox’s)
Richt is Clueless
April 4th, 2010
12:47 am
Just to add some perspective on what other SEC QB’s are doing look at the 2009 stats for td-to-int ratio for the qb’s:
TD-TO-INT RATIO 2009:
Florida 5.0 td to int ratio
Alabama 4.25
Auburn 3.5
Ark 3.0
Georgia 1.38
Georgia must be ABOVE 4 to win 12+ games in the SEC.
3.0 will get you a 9 win season.
1.38 will get you an 8 win season.

Taxi Driver looks to me like he set this couple and their friend up. Homeboy and his 3 drunks with him feel mighty safe in the Taxi Driver’s van. Don’t passengers have the right to pay for a Taxi and go there ? He can stop and pick up as many as he wants ? I can see that if the couple and their friend want to pick up someone else to share the fare, that they would have that right to ask the Taxi Driver if he wanted to pick them up if they are willing to share the fare. Unilaterally, the Taxi Driver can pick anyone up, and add as many as he wants ? Obviously the Police are very tardy on a report from Wednesday that the Entire Easter Weekend goes without any report that obviously Homeboy is NOT an UGA Bulldog. Homeboy is not the tight end who transferred here and Homeboy is not the recruit at DT last year either.
What enrages almost everyone is that this is NOT Tolerable.
Instead, we have had Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and now Sunday, chalk full of excuses.
To all of you who made excuses, how do your posts saved forever on the Internet, look now ?
Taxi Driver needs to lose his license. Presumably, if you look up his cell phone number, you will find he has mysteriously been the Taxi Driver while multiple people were rolled after he picked up his Homeboys.
Instead, you personally attacked Hutson, Meghan, and Borganmeister. Clearly, they did wrong you, accusing UGA Bulldogs’ football team members when I see no mention of it by anyone but these 3 only, that they are UGA Bulldogs’ football team members.
Lost in the shuffle will be that the Taxi Driver knew the Homeboy.
It will be lost because these 3 made the statement that they were UGA Bulldogs’ football team members.
I would question the Taxi Driver. I would cross-reference how many times he isn’t even listed on the Police Report. He can pick up whomever the hell he wants, even his Homeboy. I have no say in that ? Beyond this is not a safe practice; I would NEVER take a Taxi A&A or anyone else, this guy or anyone else, with this Law that in Athens Georgia in April 2010, the Taxi Driver himself alone has the call of if and whom he picks up, including his Homeboy.
The 2 UGA Bulldogs’ Football Players who have reported that it is neither Derek on the roster, should not have done so. They should have let you make up yet more excuses for the next days up-coming before The Police themselves actually get off their butts and report that this is a false statement to The Police with Libel and Slander against a group who have 89 arrests / suspensions in the first 9 years of the Coach Richt Era.
And, therefore against you personally – so, you ran on here for the last 6 days now and made up excuses for their actions. There is NO EXCUSE. I would state that EVERY TIME, whether a Bulldog or NOT.
There is not anyone in this Taxi who is Innocent. No one.
Taxi Driver is an accomplice.
All of you who made up excuses as you always do for the last 6 days now and counting and all of the media and blog post writers as well who have acted as if these are UGA Bulldogs’ football players – should ALL – have been allowed to continue to post your EXCUSES and your wishful thinking that UGA Bulldogs’ Football Players would possibly say and do these vile criminal acts in cohorts with the Taxi Driver.
I have had a BLAST reading your posts and all the media coverage. This is my only post on the topic. You should have been allowed to continue to attack in here everyone BUT the Taxi Driver and should have been allowed to CONTINUE to MAKE UP EXCUSES for Homeboy and his 3 drunks with him. There are so many charges coming from this brief moment in time, that all of them and all of you will be in Court answering for it.
As a player myself, a walk-on here, I would have suggested we have a team meeting and agree to say NOTHING.

That would be GT,s QB since it will be an ACC bowl for runner-ups.
I would love to hear more about Reuben Faloughi…sounds like a diamond in the rough…a Richard Tardits maybe?
Please don’t project next season based on spring stats. I do believe the offense will be potent…can you imagine an empty backfield 4 wide set with Murray in the shotgun, AJ and Durham wide, Charles at TE, and Gray and Branden Smith in the slots? You would have to defend the pass but you could put all kinds of people in motion, direct snap to Gray or Smith or throw deep or put five people out in the patterns. We should really be able to create matchup problems.
For the stats guys you need to temper your enthusiasm with the knowledge that this is against a defense in transition.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and predict 12-0, unless we lose one in which case I’m predicting 11-1, unless we lose two in which case I predict 10-2. But…if we lose three then I predict 9-3. But that’s it!

Balance is the name of the game
April 4th, 2010
12:28 pm
UGA has for several years now, been an imbalanced football team. UGA simply did not dictate on defense. That forced the O to score quickly if possible and when turnovers resulted, it put the worst feature of the squad back out on the field. A tired and poorly focused D. team hit the field. Look what resulted.
Balance or the ability to control the ball ( like the Tech game, allthough Tech is no real indicator ) and move the chains and score. eat the clock with nice long drives being accented by quick gains via the pass is what Mark richt is seeking. . The D can become rested AND CONFIDENT in their abilities within this scheme.
Throw in the atrocious UGA kick coverage and directional kicks and we can see why UGA was all ways out of synch and imbalanced in the recent past. They ( we ) were not a complete team.
The new coaches are addressing ALL of this. We have some talent and with newly engendered attitude , UGA ought to win 9 or 10, plus a major bowl. This is where UGA’s natural place is.
They ( we ) should always compete for the EAST and in every third or 4th year have a shot to WIN the SEC in the Dome and go on from there. The rest will always, always fall into place by playing in and winning the SEC. The Cap One or the Outback ought to always be the worst that UGA does. There is a Tech alum/Dodd era football player on the Outback committee and he is very, very, very anti UGA, so maybe the Outback will not be routine. The Cotton WILL SOON be a top tier bowl and IN NEW DIGS, so maybe UGA enjoys that more routinely, now. Dallas vs Tampa? Please compare the two venues side by side.
I am starting to realize that a top program ought to fire the position coaches or see them move on to head jobs, in order to be a really competitive program where big time kids want to play.
Change we actually CAN count on.

They run crossing routes everyday, just for your information….They run a “mesh” route to rub off man to man coverage where two receivers cross underneath and they have a bootleg naked pass off the 1 back counter pulling the tackle to the counter side as a diversion that is their best crossing route…For you Dawgfan 13, I will speak to Coach Bobo about possibly putting in one more crossing route….Just so you would be happy….And don’t call him BOZO, cause he’s forgotten more football than you will ever know….

We gotta pick a QB who QUITS THROWING INT’S!!!!
Bama was +16 in turnover margin in 2009
Florida was +7 in turnover margin in 2009
LSU was +7 in turnover margin in 2009
Georgia was -17 in turnover margin in 2009!!!!!
The td to int ratio is related to wins/losses:
fla- 25 td’s/5 int’s = 5.0 td-to-int ratio = 13-1 record
bama- 17 td’s/4 int’s = 4.25 td-to-int ratio = 14-0 record
lsu- 18 td’s/7 int’s = 2.6 td-to-int ratio = 9-4 record
Ga – 22 td’s/16 int’s= 1.38 td-to-int ratio = 8-5 record

April 4th, 2010

Be interesting to see if Chris Low “accidentedly” forgets to post Brantley’s QB stats again after the scrimmage. I am sure Meyer doesn’t want the world knowing that Brantley has averaged 52% completion in his last 2 scrimmages.
Nor will Low likely report on the 10 bad snaps, 4 sacks, 3 interceptions, 3 fumbles, and 2 field goal misses for Florida from the Aril 3 scrimmage.
Low will likely write something like:
“The defense had a great day for Florida.”

Hope 1 of these UGA QB’s will seperate on G-Day with a 3 TD, 0 Int performance.
Waiting for that breakout performance.
If Mett has a huge day, lots of td’s, no int’s, there will be an outcry on the blogs if Murray gets the #1 position.
On the other hand, if Murray or Logan has a huge day like 3 td, o int’s, the job is his.
QB competition at UGA over like 50 years
April 4th, 2010
3:12 pm
UGA is at the juncture in the road for QBs that they have to engender a competitive spirit among the QB contenders and also keep that frosh QB Hutson Mason happy and studying the play book. One never knows when he might have to step in.
Over like 50 years, UGA ( we are no different than any other school) has always had a “competition” between the QBs, unless, unless he was the established guy. To argue that “Richt is cluless” proves that the writer of that idiotic statement IS clueless. Richt has developed two Heisman QBs and one # 1 draft choice plus, about 5 other FSU QBs that played in the NFL. Please, dispense with that crap. Frankly, very likely Joe Cox as better with RICHT. Imagine that …….Cox w.o. a Mark Richt. He then plays for 4 at The College of Charleston, maybe.
Kirby Moore in the early 60s had Preston Riddlehuber and then Mike Cavan in 68-69 had Paul Gilbert and Andy Johnson had some guy from SC that supposedly could hum it and then Goff in 74,75 and 76 had Matt Robinson, who was a NY Jets starter QB for more than one or two years and Buck Belue had Board Hands Jeff Pyburn and later, John Lastinger and then we had NO QBS for about 8 years. I do not count James Jackson or Edwards.
Then, later we had Erc Zeir who was special. Then, noboies again until Daivd Green and DJ Shockley played. I do not count Quincy Carter as he was simply bad medicine for the entire UGA team. That brings us up to Matt Stafford’s era who was NOT the go to guy, at first …….until Joe T was the failure that he was.
There are peaks and valleys in recruiting and for now, UGA is gonna enjoy aboyt 4-6 years of very decent QBs with what we NOW HAVE and waht is forthcoming.
Now? We have three fine and YOUNG QBs and one fine frosh ( soon to redshirt ) and we are really, really in an enviable spotfor the future for quality QBs. THAT is where all of the negativity is coming from …………JEALOUSY.
Go Dogs.

Florida over the last 4 years has maintained a 4.9 td-to-int ratio. Georgia over the last 4 years has maintained a 1.96 td-to-int ratio.
Georgia has committed 14 turnovers against Florida in the last 4 seasons.
Richt doesn’t appear:
1) to be aware of the td-to-int problem (never heard him mention it)
2) to know how to fix it
3) he seems to be “very impressed” when 2 out of 3 of his qb’s turn in an 1.0 td-to-int ratio in 1st 2 scrimmages.
If Richt is ‘very impressed’ with a 1.0 td-to-int ratio, Richt doesn’t know what’s going on. This is worse than last year’s 1.3 td-to-int ratio.

UGA's 10 Man QB Race Derby Spectacular!

Maybe we should trow the walk-ons into the QB battle. This is using Richt and Bobo’s approach.
If competition makes QB’s better, then adding 10 more QB’s into the competition will make each QB better.
Makes perfect sense. If you’re Richt or Bobo.
Never Declare a QB Starter for UGA!!!
April 4th, 2010
5:40 pm
Come to think of it, if competiton makes the QB better, then never declare anyone a starter. Always make everyone on the team uncertain about who their leader is. Keep those QB’s competing, rotate all 10 in the games, that’s how QB’s excel–it’s all about competition, nothing to do with the NUMBER OF REPS they get!! If a guy’s declared the starter, he’ll get lazy. So NEVER DECLARE A STARTER ON THE WHOLE TEAM, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, AND ROTATE EVERYBODY, EVEN THE HEAD COACH!!!
Coahc Wooden's Philosophy is Counter to UGA's QB Rotation
April 4th, 2010
5:44 pm
Coach Wooden says his team got WORSE when he rotated players and he couldn’t ever win a championship rotating starters. It was only when he STOPPED rotating his best players out, that he started to win championships.
Then again, what does Wooden know, Bobo’s WAY smarter.

UGA's 10 Man QB Race Derby Spectacular!
April 4th, 2010

Ok, right now,we have 3 QB’s “competing”.
1) assume all have exactly equal talent
2) assume the worst about each–that they’ll be lazy if named the starter
3) assume the worst about each, that they’re only pumped up by others, can’t pump themselves up,
4) rotate each evenly, reducing the reps by 67% for each starter
5) their skills will improve by 300% as reps go down by 67%
6) continue to be indecisiveness by not naming a starter until well into the fall season so the reps stay down, yet the skills go up
7) assume that indecisveness by the head coach is the key to leadership

Is being divided into 2 or 3 minds a good thing for the players? Is it how to best help them succeed? Is that doubt and uncertainty best for them? Is it best for the QB’s by reducing their reps? Is it best for the Coaches?
Very Impressed with Kirby Smart
April 4th, 2010
6:57 pm
Coach Richt needs to know, if he falters again with another 40 fumble/interception year, that there’s a guy named Kirby Smart waiting in the wings for his job. Richt is about one 8-5 season away. Maybe the idea of having someone right behind you works for Richt, if so, keep looking at Kirby Smart in the rear view mirror. Smart will not put up with a -16 turnover margin.

How could you not discuss instead the arrest yesterday morning of yet another Georgia Bulldog football player ?
Quote from a blog post at 11:45 p.m. last night :
“All these off campus incidents need to stop.”
Well, unfortunately, we have become a group of fans who have a new list of excuses for each and every 1 of now 90 arrests / suspensions in the Coach Richt Era that began now 9 years ago. That’s 90 available today on the Internet 9 years later, documented.
You can say that he was a very good football player. He was. He was previously suspended twice for 3 games on 2 previous arrests. 3 of the 90 arrested / suspended Georgia Bulldogs in the Coach Richt Era are his alone.
T J Stripling 6′6″ 215 lbs. 4.6 speed was going to beat him out as Starter on the field at some point and Montez Robinson 6′5″ 235 lbs 4.6 speed was going to be a big help coming in off the bench, although Robinson was recruited here one year ago.
In that year, Coach Richt has taken a lot of heat for his 90 now arrests / suspensions readily available for anyone to see on the Internet. This at a time when for the last 4 years since DJ Shockley’s graduation when UGA has gone 1-3 vs the vols 1-3 vs Florida 21 fumbles a year for the last 4 years now 14 interceptions a year for the last 4 years now and averaged # 96 in the NCAA in Penalties the last 4 years now.
We have never beat a Final AP Poll Top 10 Bowl Opponent. The 1st SEC Championship we got 5-loss FSU and the 2nd SEC Championship we Lost our bowl game. That was 5 years ago now, this coming season. In these last 4 years since we have gone 10 wins 10 losses the last 20 games against SEC East teams. We did get to play in a 3rd BCS Bowl game against what is in fact Hawaii Number 19 in the Final AP Poll, but that was after we lost to the 4-loss vols and lost to the 6-loss South Carolina when South Carolina did not even play in a bowl game.

We cannot get out of our own division, fired the entire coaching staff on the defensive side of the ball except for the 1 guy who recruited Montez Robinson here, and should have fired the entire offensive coaching staff.
Instead, Coach Richt has taken over all the Offensive Coaching Staff’s duties. Teach the Quarterbacks, run the offense, and even determine the depth chart for the offensive coaching staff.
You can expect another arrest May 5. It is what we have done for 9 solid years.
Montez Robinson was the number 8 best Defensive End in the nation and the top football player of all positions in the state of Indiana. Alabama, for example, thought they had Montez Robinson this time last year, only to have our recruiting class rankings add Montez Robinson instead.
We have not done our duty to society with Montez Robinson. We have had to react to now 90 arrests / suspensions readily available for all to see on the Internet like this story right here by David Hale in the Coach Richt Era.
Comparing us to Florida over the Coach Richt Era or even over Urban Meyer tenure, we have had a lot more arrested / suspended than Florida – although Florida’s are more high profile.
The problem is that our 90 arrests / suspensions in the Coach Richt Era are 1 a month for 9 years. March 7 Zach Mettenberger to April 4 Montez Robinson for example.
There are actually more than 90 arrests / suspensions in the Coach Richt Era. I don’t have the time or inclination to find them when these 90 pop right up for everyone to easily tally up.
BuLLdawg

5:39 am
It’s a problem for Coach Richt in the face of him having to take over the Offensive Coaching Staff’s complete job description admitting Mike Bobo cannot handle it all by himself and having to fire his entire Defensive and Special Teams’ Coaching Staffs as well. It is obviously not possible to go a month without an arrest / suspension.
Just as it is not possible for us to beat a Top 10 Final AP Poll team in a bowl game – you know a big huge win on the national stage.
Just as it is not possible to beat Florida.
Just as it is not possible to have the expectation to win more than 10 games in 14-game seasons nowadays.
9-4 or 10-3 that is our HOPE for the season.
QB ? Do we have a QB ready like Florida has ? No. We did not have one ready for 2010, 2009 or 2006.
Maybe we should have done more for Montez Robinson. We have bigger fish to fry right now than deal with him on top of all this. Best of Luck Montez Robinson. You should have chosen a place without 90 arrests / suspensions where you could be dealt with properly. You obviously did not fear your 1 game suspension Shreveport Bowl Game your 1st arrest last October 20 beating up a woman. You did not fear your 2 game suspension to start this 2010 season with your 2nd arrest November 30 then bashing her car’s taillights drunk in public, and now you have another battery arrest. The best place for you to learn that lesson is in jail.

Out of the 12 teams in the NFL who made the playoffs, only 1 had a negative turnover margin.
http://simononsports.blogspot.com/2010/01/quick-regressions-turnover-margin-to.html
Generally speaking, for each 4 turnovers you force, you can add a win. So if you force 39 turnovers, like the Saints did, you should be Champs if your offense doesn’t GIVEAWAY the ball too much on their side.
I feel sure Grantham, Belin, and Lakatos will force turnovers, I do NOT feel sure the offense will PROTECT THE BALL.
John Brantley, the New Joe Cox
April 5th, 2010

Consider the similarities.
Both had excellent high school stats.
Both missed out on starting for a few seasons due to a better QB in front of them.
Both had great scrimmages and practices.
Both had great game stats in mop up duties.
Brantley will turn into a Joe Cox. Throw a couple of dozen tds, maybe 2500 yards, and around 15 or 16 interceptions. And Brantley’s team will finish like 8-5, give or take a game less or more.
