I think it’s time for Logan to start considering another position if he truly wants to play.

I like those rushing numbers. I know the first scrimmage prolly isnt a very realistic one…but I know even in camp last year the running backs were struggling.

5 sacks for the defense sounds great, and this is against the top 3 quarterbacks. How many sacks did the first team get versus the second team? Top two running backs averaged 5 yds per carry after taking out their long run, good to see. Good completion percentages from top 2 quarterbacks. Good mobility by Murray. Where is Logan Gray’s vaunted mobility and accuracy, same as last year? Overall, good things shown during the scrimmage! Anyone missing Willie or Joe??

I hate that for Gray, those numbers are not going to get it done. Its earlier though, can’t wait till spring game, 2 more weeks.

This is the kind of blog post I’ve bene looking for. Now we know what’s cooking.

King averaged 13 ypc and Ealey over 7 ypc–WOW! Caleb King might have that breakout year everyone’s been dreaming about for him.

Wooten averaging over 24 ypc, going to get a lot of opportunities since AJ Green’s going to get the best DB, and get coverages rolled to his side. If Wooten keeps this up, and I think he will, Wooten could take a lot of pressure off of AJ and open up running lanes for the RB’s.

Most dissapointed with Logan Gray. 42% completion, longest pass 12 yards, an interception, and 3 sacks. That’s terrible.

Murray had the 2nd best day–67% completion rate, long pass of 40 yards, 1 td, no sacks, but that 1 interpcetion drives you nuts.

How about Zach Mett, 70% completion rate, 65 long pass, averaged 22 yards a completion. 2 sacks wern’t bad. AND ZERO INTERECEPTIONS!!!!

#1 Zach
#2 Murray
#3 Gray

i think with Zach’s lack of leadership skills with his off-the-field incident, he’s #2. I’d rank em’:

#1 Murray
#2 Mett
#3 Mason
#4 Gray

I think Logan is just delaying the inevitable. He needs to move to either WR or DB or both. Also, looking good for a punt returner. UGA coaches need to make a fast move and narrow to Zack and Murray to increase reps. UGA’s not deep at WR or DB, so Logan could help one or both.

Looks like Mett is the real deal. He has a rocket for an arm and good football sense. If he can stay out of trouble which I think he can, he could become an outstanding drop back quarterback. Gray needs to find another position otherwise it’s a waste of a scholarship.

I’m more interested in CTG take on defensive performace from this scrimmage. I’m really not concerned with offense, we have 10 starters returning and playmakers at every position, just need solid play from whoever emerges as the QB.

the defense will not look good for several months. It’s new, it’s complex, and it will probably be August before they’re performing at game-ready level. Grantham will have them ready for the big SEC match-ups. Keep in mind, the defense is going up against the best WR, QB, and RB’s in the SEC, and they have a brand new defense to learn, so it will be a while before the defense catches up to the offense.

But the offense looked excellent. Looking good folks.

Big Hutson Mason fan–Mason threw for 5500 yards and over 55 td’s his senior year. He is MUCH better than Gray–no contest. If Murray gets hurt, Mason will be the back-up. Mason has excellent size and completed over 70% of his passes, with a 5.5 td to int ratio.

It is hard to make of this. I don’t know if I should be happy or incredibly nervous. Looking at the stats our defense looks as if it has many holes. Granted, a new defensive schem is being put into place. Who was there that can fill us in.

uh, Murray, Mett and RB’s had pretty good numbers. Then again, that means the defense had pretty bad numbers.

Come on guys. This is a double edge sword. If the D would of stepped up everyone would be complaining about the offense. Hot points are the D got to the QB and made some turnovers. Something we didnt do last year. So well done to the D. They gave up a few big plays but on the bright side of that at least our offense can make the big play. Just relax everyone its good to see pleasant numbers on both sides of the ball. Overall i think that went well and Murray should be the overall leader at this point.

Mikes dog,

High school stats are nothing but an indication of an athlete’s abilities and potential. It means nothing if you do not know the offensive scheme and plays. For Mason he is still very early in his learning curve so don’t hold out to much hope for him playing this year. From just the stats reported I would say Grey has dropped to number 2 with Murry leading but all that can change between now and the first regular season snap. Let’s wait till the G-game to get a better idea of both the QB situation and the defensive adjustment to the 3-4.

Good post SEC, This scrimmage means nothing. Now that you mentioned it along with a couple others, at least we did put presure on the QB and forced turnovers. It’s a good O-Line so with that in mind it does look promising.

There will be 4 or 5 more scrimmages before the Spring game in April, so Logan could rebound.

Looking ahead to the season, Games 2 & 3 against S. Carolina and Ark present problems for our defense, ARK especially. But, IF we can get through those 2 games with a win, the defense won’t be tested again until the 9th game against Florida, then games 11 & 12 against Aubrun and Ga Tech.

So, if the offense and special teams can carry the defense in games 2 & 3, the defense should be in great shape by the 9th game against Florida.

I Agree Dave. The whole point of a scrimmage is to find those weak spots and work on them. Its the first scrimmage and it looks very positive on both sides of the ball. Well done dawgs. And look who else showed up on the state…..RAMBO. haha i love this kid…a true junkyard dawg

Who says Logan should play ANY position? He has not proven jack s… for any position. Seriously, what is this man love for Logan? ” he is a great athlete, got to get him on the field some way or some how” Really? What has he DONE to deserve such accolades? Nothing from what I have observed! Can someone please explain? Because some AJC writer or radio announcer says we HAVE to play Logan somewhere on the field, makes it so? Again, I have not seen any “wow” in Loagn to justify him taking a starting position from another recruit or starter just because “we have to get him the field” attitude.

Still Early..

Everyone just settle down about the defense. It’s brand new and needs time to sink in and evolve. Besides, coaches don’t even have player positions locked down yet, it’s been barely two practice weeks, so don’t worry about it.Grantham will have everything ready come september. Remember you lousy bandwagoneers, it’s not even april yet.

Murray: no sacks. That has to speak for something. Mobility may be a game changer if the defense has to take that into consideration. It may open up things for both running and passing. And I think Murray is a winner. Period.

I am REALLY worried about South Carolina, because they have a GREAT defensive coaching staff. They’ll be hard to score on. But our defense and QB’s will still be really inexperienced by game 2, so it’s gonna be one of the hardest games for us to win all season because of where it comes in the season and the quality of the defense. If Carolina’s running game kicks into gear, they could be a tough out in the East.

Then the Ark offense just puts up 35 a game. W

Dear 750K: If the university ran itself like the UGAA it might have a surplus of $60 mil as well. And the UGAA is self sustaining and receives no monies from the university. In fact it contributes to the student scholarship fund. So, put that in your pipe and smoke it.
