(Updated 6:45 p.m.)
I’m working on a story for tomorrow’s paper (on-line later today) about Caleb King and Washaun Ealey, who, as you know, eased all worries about Georgia’s tailback position with their play late last season. (UPDATE: Click here for the story.)
One thing that kind of struck me is that, for all the talk about who’ll be the starter at quarterback and various other positions, you don’t hear any talk around spring practice about who’ll emerge as the starter at tailback, King or Ealey.
That’s probably because they were so effective as a tandem late last season that, well, why worry about who starts?
Mark Richt and Mike Bobo don’t dismiss the question, though.
“Both of those guys are competing hard,” Bobo said, “because like at any position there’s going to be a guy who wants to start and wants to go first. And I think that’s healthy.”
“I think Caleb and Washaun have a very good friendship,” Richt said, “but I think they both want to be the starter and both want to prove they deserve the most carries. I really like the way they’re practicing.”
Said King: “Of course both of us want to start.” But he added — and Ealey echoed — that the competition is making both players better and that last season proved there’s ample role for both. Then King mentioned, not for the first time, that he sees “a realistic chance” of both of them gaining 1,000 yards this season.
King started the final five games last season, but it should be noted that Ealey had more carries in three of those games. Over the course of the final five games, Ealey had 77 carries for 525 yards and King 74 carries for 440 yards.
So, just wondering: What do you expect from the tailback tandem in 2010? Who do you expect to start? ( Or do you care who starts?) Do you expect their carries to remain pretty even?
FYI: No football practice today. Dogs practice Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week.

That’s the reason they call you jughead…You come on here like you know something, you don’t know jackschitt about Georgia football or anything else for that matter….Bobo has forgotten more about football in 15 minutes than you have learned about football in your lifetime….Leave the damn coaches alone and let them coach, without your self proclaimed expertise….

ACC is so great in basketball, I thought ?
UGA Women won again in the NCAA Tournament to run our record to 25-8 on the season, while Georgia tek has been finished in basketball for some time now both in women’s and men’s basketball.
ACC Sweet 16 ? Duke is it in men’s basketball while The SEC has 2 teams the vols and Kentucky.
750 wins for Andy Landers, averaging over 24 wins a season, so this is an average season for him.
18 times Andy Landers has been in the Regional Semi-Finals. This year’s squad cannot shoot. But, they can play some defense.
UGA advances to play Stanford, another school Georgia tek is NOT.
While the nation ponders the thoughts of Georgia tek bragging they are better than all the teams remaining in The NCAA Tournament, the facts are that not only did UGA beat Georgia tek in football 30-24 but also beat Georgia tek in both men’s basketball 73-66 and women’s basketball 56-50.
So, while Georgia tek remains at home their seasons over, UGA advances.
UGA also beat Georgia tek in the classrooms this year with a higher APR than Georgia tek in football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball, the Major Sports.
Assailed in the national press for your low academics, the worst in college basketball in the NCAA Tourney this season, Georgia tek also could not win in men’s basketball even with your 914 Academic Progress Rate, limited by the NCAA Probation to only 11 scholarships.
Sweet 16 for Georgia 18 times now for Andy Landers.
NCAA Tournament Action :
SEC 13-3
ACC 9-9
SEC Men 4-2
ACC Men 5-5
SEC Women 9-1
ACC Women 4-4
ACC has neither a winning record in NCAA Tourney Men
ACC has neither a winning record in NCAA Tourney Women
SEC has winning record in BOTH NCAA Tourney Men & Women.
SEC is kicking the butts of ACC in basketball, again.

Ealey himself said it was his fault. Ealey ran the wrong way. The defense only blew up a play that was never designed to go up the middle in the first place. Now, how does the senior QB leave the huddle with a freshmen not knowing the play is another matter, but lets get the facts straight on the play. Its been broken down by both players and the coaches at this point.
And the boy IS going to have to be able to take a pitch at some point if he is going to play RB, don’t you think?
and please everybody look at the official stats. UGA fumbled 22 times last year, not 23, not 24, not 30, not 13.

chazzo- I enjoyed watching Lars Tate play. Trying to imagine Lars and Henderson coming at you if your were playing D would have freaked me out. Those horses were complete thoroughbreds. It is interesting to me to see how the game has changed from these 6-2, 6-3 , 230-240lb backs to these shorter compact backs like Ealey and King. Even though I pulled and always do pull for the Dogs, I enjoyed watching Charles Scott from LSU. He reminded me alot of the glory T-Back U days at UGA.

Apparently, UGA admits 2 fumbles in the LSU game, but credits the fumbles to “the team”.
Anyone know which member of “the team” fumbled in the LSU game?

TEAM……………. 3-0
Braden Smith……. 3-2
Caleb King TB……. 2-2
Washaun Ealey TB…. 1-1
Shaun Chapas FB….. 1-0
Brandon Boykin…… 1-0
A.J. Green WR……. 1-1
Prince Miller……. 1-1
Athur Lynch TE….. 1-0
Carlton Thomas TB… 1-1
Michael Moore WR…. 1-1
R. Wooten WR…….. 1-0
Richard Samuel TB… 1-1
I count 22, although the summary does list it as 23. I think its a conspiracy.
BTW the TEAM fumbles in the LSU game, (and its 3 actually) were bad exchange from Center to QB.

UGA just needs to have a TOUGH defense again. Grantham seems 100% committed to a defense that puts an emphasis on physicality instead of the Martinez prevent style defense. If Grantham is successful, the attitude and success of UGA in all phases will be noticeable. After all, I don’t know any teams that have a tough, gritty offense that don’t have the same on defense. They feed off each other in practice, etc.
The naysayers of UGA had a strong argument until Grantham was hired, but he might be the one to turn things around again.

The 3 fumbles in the LSU game were all in the 4th quarter.
the 1st one was the 1st play of the 4th quarter by “the team”
the 2nd fumble was at the 42 seconds to go mark by “the team”
the 3rd was at the 36 seconds to go mark by “the team”

I’m still laughing at the idea of two 1,000 yard rushers with Bobo’s playcalling. That would mean that we would have to run the ball even when everybody in the stadium knows we’re going to run it. Bobo does not believe in this agressive and physical style of offense. He thinks that screens, draws, and play action trickery are the only ways to run the ball with any success. He thinks that if the defense knows we’re going to run the ball then they are obviously going to stop it. I mean, there’s just no way our offensive line could do something whacky like block them so they couldn’t stop it. No way. That’s just crazy talk to Bobo. You have to trick them. Otherwise, just let the QB check in to an ill advised pass play and throw an interception. That’s the Bobo offense folks.
Caleb’s head is in the right place. Too bad Bobo is wasting his talents.

dawgfan why keep posting that same old worn rant , when everybody in the stadium knows that ylou have no idea what you are talking about?
Its your contention that “there’s just no way our offensive line could do something whacky like block them so they couldn’t stop it” because Coach Bobo doesnt believe in “an agressive and physical style of offense”? Really? That’s your stand? That’s your actual opinion? Really?

Settle down Francis. That’s not my opinion on the offensive line. Maybe I didn’t make myself clear. That’s what I think Bobo thinks. He has no faith in our offensive line.
You can attack my opinions all you want. Maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about. But the results speak for themselves. Bobo’s offenses have done jack diddly freaking squat against the best defenses in the SEC. That’s not an opinion. Its a fact. Name me one game where Bobo’s offense looked even remotely competent against a top ranked SEC defense. Just one. You can’t do it. 2007 Florida? Their secondary was a joke. What else is there? Look at what they’ve done to Bobo since. Bama shut us out for an entire half…with two NFL 1st rounders in the backfield!!! How in the good holy crap is that not Bobo’s fault? Facts are facts and the fact is that if we face a big, talented, and well coached defense we’re freaking toast.
One game my man and I’ll stop posting my same old worn rant. You just give me one game. You can’t do it because it isn’t there. I’m sick of the excuses.
Class dismissed.
