AD Evans wants Dogs to kick off a season in Georgia Dome

Georgia athletics director Damon Evans said Monday night that he wants the Bulldogs to open a football season in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at the Georgia Dome at some point.

“It’s something I’m definitely interested in,” Evans said on UGA’s “Bulldog Hotline” radio show, “and I think that Mark [Richt] has some interest in it as well.

“It’s one of those things where [it's difficult] trying to get it to fit the schedule [and] trying to find the appropriate team to play in that particular game, but we’ll get it in at some point in time. And I think it’ll be exciting for us, because it’ll be sort of like a home game, playing in our state.”

Evans said he’s aware of how the Kickoff game has benefited Alabama, which has opened the past two seasons at the Georgia Dome –- vs. Virginia Tech in 2009 and Clemson in 2008.

“Atlanta is fertile recruiting ground, and [the game] gives [Alabama] an opportunity to bring their program in once a year so people in the state of Georgia can see Alabama up close and personal,” he said.

UGA last year rejected overtures to move an occasional Georgia-Florida game or one Georgia-Georgia Tech game to the Georgia Dome. But Evans favors, at least in theory, a season-opening game at the Dome against a non-conference opponen that doesn’t typically appear on the Bulldogs’ schedule.

The game would be in lieu of a road game; it would not replace a home game on UGA’s schedule. The opponent might come from the ACC, given that the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game so far has featured an SEC team vs. an ACC team in each matchup.

LSU and North Carolina are scheduled to play in this year’s game.  Tennessee and N.C. State are committed for the 2012 game.

But the Kickoff folks also have talked with programs from around the country about playing in Atlanta.

Evans chatted with voice-of-the-Dogs Scott Howard for about 90 minutes on the final “Bulldog Hotline” show until the fall:

  • Aside from the Georgia Dome possibility, Evans said UGA, which has played six home games each of  the past two seasons and will do so again this year, “may look at adding another home game in the future to bring it up to seven home games” some years.
  • Asked what he wants to accomplish in the year ahead, Evans said: “I know everybody wants to hear this. I’m going to do all I can from my chair to get our football program back to the level that people are used to, and I have no doubt that will happen. I have utmost confidence in Coach Richt to continue to do the things that he’s always done and … position us to compete for championships. And I want to see us grow our basketball program on the men’s side, to make some improvements from this year and get that program to consistently getting in the NCAA tournament. And I think next year is a big step forward for us.”

On another note, I think its time to change the BBall coaching on the women’s side as well. Not that I have ever watched a game of Lady Dogs bball, I know without even watching that Andy Landers will never take us to an NCAA title. He can’t even win and SEC title. He is too old, too male and too white to connect with today’s women players. He needs to retire gracefully and lets get a coach who can make the program proud.

JimDog85,
I agree that Landers will probably never bring in an NCAA title. Considering the amount of talent in the state of Georgia, a title is definitely possible with the right coach. Also, I think the job is very attractive because the women’s b-ball team is consistently good and just needs the right coach to push them up to the elite level (like the situation Coach Richt inherited when he was hired). However, Landers has been here too long and accumulated too much good will for Evans to fire him. The only thing Evans can really do is not give pay raises to Landers. In a sport that doesn’t generate revenue, it would be highly unusual to fire a coach who brings in consistently good-not-great results.

I love the idea of playing in the opener at the Dome, But I also think some serious thought should go into whom we would, and should play. Where do we want to recruit? one article tonight is about, “Are we losing our hold on S.Ga.? How about starting the season off with Fla. State? Hell, I can’t think of a better way of putting a death grip on S.Ga.. Another idea is posted above, why not Clemson? Every year it seems the state of S.Carolina has some stud we want and need………Beat South Carolina and Clemson in the same year and wala…….we get the dude from S.Carolina ! Last, but not least, would be to strengthen our grip that CMR has established in South Florida……….Start the season with Miami………Anyone of those three would make this DOG fan a happy camper…………GO DOGS!!! Evans says he wants to do everything he can to get us back to the level we should be at. One thing I have never heard a recruit say about UGA is that he is blown away by our facilites. I have not heard that we have bad facilities just never that they are a great plus to any recruits. Hopefully with the new weight room and upgrades they have made we can continue this in the future and work towards us having top ten facilites in the country, with the profit they are making it would be a good investment in the future of the program.

Agree, agree, agree. 1) Stop travelling all over the country to “spread the Georgia brand” only to come home the next week and lose a crucial SEC game, 2) recruits are NOT blown away by our facilities because we spend millions and millions on Butts-Mehre but don’t upgrade over show piece, Sanford Stadium, and 3) move the 2014 Clemson game to the opener, ONLY if we make the following week a bye week, so we have time to recover for our SEC opener in Columbia, against SC.

I disagree with you gentlemen who say that athletes are not impressed by our facilities at UGA. Have you ever read the comments of the players and recruits? They rave about the dorms, practice fields, locker rooms and the stadium. Millions has been spent on Sanford Stadium in recent years and is continuing and the expansion of BM will truly make the facilities at UGA among the best in all of college. I’ve toured many college athletic facilities, and I would put the football-related facilities in the top 5. Now, as for baseball…that’s another story. However, that is coming too.

I agree Steve. Although playing in the Dome to open a season i believe is smart, i find it smart for media purposes. Media purposes will get more attention than who we play. Playing Miami, Florida State, or Ohio State to open the season is NOT smart, especially for a slow starting team like the Dawgs. MOST recruits do not make a selection based on who you have beaten but better yet on the stability of the program and what direction you are headed. I don’t think a stud will chose Georgia over SC or Clemson simply because they have beaten two teams from the same state. I had rather see us work in a Notre Dame or Michigan in the middle of the schedule than place one at the top on neutral ground. We play and travel well on the road. Lets go up north every other year and make a “mark” on some unchartered territory rather than play a risky game to open a season at the Dome. However, that being said, I have yet to see a team out run us on the indoor turf at the Dome! Maybe outsmart (W. Virginia), but not outrun.

They could open at Dynamo stadium in Moscow (Russia, not Idaho). If they get blown out, as they have a propensity to do in big games, what good does it do where they open? Better for Evans to concentrate on getting better coaches then worrying about where they open; that will get the program plenty of exposure. Hint to Evans: Convince Richt he needs a capable, first-class SEC offensive coordinator instead of “Home Boy”.

The 09 season was embarrassing on the D side of the ball. Watching a very very average Tennessee team lay wood on us to the tune of 40 + points is unacceptable. Willie” no lead is safe” is gone and this year should be better from a coaching standpoint, we’ll just have to see what they can do with the talent coming back. I think it’s a good time for the UGA football program to get back to top shelf in every area. We have not been at the top of our game in every area for some time. Good job on the new coaches; needed to happen. We are looking for a new bulldog mascot- can’t wait! We are building some new facilities- needed these! We haven’t built new athletic facilities in the football arena since the 80’s. One final area we need major league help is our radio broadcast: There was a time when EVERYBODY listened to the broadcast of Larry Munson. Since his retirement, no more; we no longer have a sought after, over the top, UGA brand in voices of the dawgs………it’s a disappointment that we can’t have our kids buy in to the broadcast brand like we did growing up………..just another area we need to make a change. It’s sad that we no longer have that personality that everybody relates to UGA…….all the other SEC schools do. Unfortunate. Our broadcast is typically very boring and blah……….bad job Damon!

Athens is only 60 miles from Atlanta, and every game we play is already on TV. Season ticket holders already miss out on ever watching Georgia and Florida play in Athens, and now we want to have two neutral games in one season? I don’t get it. I hate to burst a bubble of some fellow UGA fans, but we need to go into the ‘10 season with a mindset that it will take a couple of years to see real improvement. First the defense. Remember, even Saban’s new defense got kicked around (6-6) in his first season. How can we expect better with our new guy, until the team learns his D?

Our offense got no makeover, which it needed almost as badly. Bobo cannot out-scheme nor out-adjust SEC DCs. He did okay for the second half of ‘07, but who couldn’t have done okay with Stafford and Knowshon? We ran the ball pretty good late last year, but that was against KY, GT, and Texas A&M. Think we can do that this year? DCs will stack up against the run and make our baby-faced QB beat them with his arm, which means never-ending passes in the flat. Branden Smith will trot in for an end-around once or twice. He is a Percy Harvin-type talent who needs the ball in his hands 6-8 times per game. Our offense is predictable and easily stopped by quality DCs (see OSU, LSU, UT, UF in ‘09). When Richt gets the nads to demote Bobo back to QB coach, and get a NFL/Grantham counterpart to build a dynamic offense that utilizes the speedy and talented players we have, THEN UGA will challange for the SEC title again.

The reason of course is that the Georgia Dome early season game is becoming a bowl game type atmosphere and it’s nationally televised against virtually nothing at that time of year. If you can kick it off against a traditional rival like Clemson it is a definate boon for recruiting and building the brand of the competitive teams nationally. Why would Alabama do it? They get 90K to spring freaking practice. They do it because it is a good tool to grow the Alabama brand and it’s another quality game on the schedule instead of wasting a million dollars paying a terrible mid major to be a sacrificial lamb.

UGA in the dome for a season opener is great. But look at the ground rules Dawg fans. It will not be a conference game, so forget USC or Florida. It will be against perceived “equal” competition from another conference.

Clemson would be a natural. The committee could double the price of tickets and still get a sell out. Miami (Fla) is a wonderful idea, but they would probably want it in a year when Tech visits them.

Personally I would like to see UGA play Texas in an opener. Again the committee could double the price of tickets and get a sell out.

A good example of why the SEC is great and always will be the greatest conference is UGA’s schedule in 2013 . SC, CLEMSON, ALA., TENN., LSU,. FLA., AUBURN and GT. Then if we win the east we have to play LSU or ALA. or Auburn again. Let’s see Ohio State or Notre Dame or Southern Cal play a schedule even half that hard. One schedule change that I hope to see in my life time is to have the Ga. Fla. game moved back to Athens and Gainesville. UGA and Fla. loses a lot of money by letting Jacksonville have that game.

The UGA Alums on the Atl Sports Counsel need to shut the game down but sadly that will not happen.

GT was the wrong game to move to the opener. Why help your rival get on the national stage. GT is currently 2nd tier in recruiting Ga talent to not only UGA but SEC teams. Further having GT at the end of the year usually helps UGA as GT does not have the depth that UGA has.

UF should stay in Jax. location has not lost that game coaching decisions have. The game is important to recruiting S. Ga. and Fl. and being in Jax helps that.

Clemson would be a big game but again they do not need the footing either. Clemson even more so than other ACC teams outside of GT like to recruit metro Atlanta.

ND would be a good game as they recruit nationally and are a 2nd tier program, if not maybe a Big10 team. UNC or BC would be my top choices out of the ACC.

If the game must be played UGA should play as often as possible if for no other reason than to keep teams like Bama from gaining stronger recruiting ties to Ga.

Playing an opener in the GA Dome is a great idea as long as we are competitive. We must stop giving Alabama our home court advantage. We must take a turn at a nationally televised home opener in our state. But, the opponent should be one from outside the Southeast to get the maximum exposure and benefit. ND, Texas, or Nebraska would fit nicely.

Facts are, they beat both Miami and VaTech last year, and lost by 1 2 two to FSU and Pitt. Since they will be much improved this year, I can not see anyhing by great things for them this year.

Fire Landers? Are you kidding me? Had he accomplished what he has accomplished – and continues to accomplish, I might add – in a men’s sport instead of a women’s sport, there would already be a bronze statue of the man outside the stadium. Ask yourself this…would you be calling for the head of the men’s basketball coach if he landed our program in the NCAA tournament every single year?

Why not a Georgia vs. BIG 12 or Georgia vs. BIG 10 matchup every year. And please don’t take away our home games in Athens. I love the atmosphere.

UGA vs FSU in the GA Dome

Relax Dawg fans

March 16th, 2010
10:38 am

Since 2000, UGA has won more OOC games against BCS teams than most every other SEC team has even played. UGA has played more total games against BCS OOC opponents than any other team in the SEC last decade. Georgia has also played a conference leading 8 away games at BCS schools and is 7-1, while LSU ranks second at 3-1.

I want us to play quality opponents, but we also must stay competitive to our rivals schedules.

Otto

When you play the same ACC team year after year they’re most likely to get one or two a decade. Besides beating a better team has nothing to do with it. The games is played for media exposure for both rankings and recruiting. The ACC can not compete with the Big10, Big12, or PAC10.

Iraq Dawg, Not a bad idea. UGA has played games in Yankee stadium. Why not Michigan at Soldier Field or Nebraska at the Jerry Dome? I like the Nebraska idea the best. Dallas has a very split recruiting pipeline due to a transient population and being closer to Oklahoma than Texas.

Of course with the way Evans and Richt schedule games we probably wind up in the Dome playing Idaho State or Louisiana Monroe or such. We will never rise to a national power without scheduling some national powers in out of conference games. Shoot we scheduled Oklahoma State to play us the past years about a decade ago when they typically won two or three games per year. It was complete luck that they actually were decent by the time they showed up on our schedule. When was the last time UGA truly scheduled a national power??? When they were a power! Thus, don’t mention FSU back in the 1970’s when they did not become national until the 1990’s. Ohio State schedules teams! Michigan did when they were Good! Florida has played FSU and Miami in the same season (so don’t bring up we play Yech…UF played both! And both are generally better than Yech anyway and have been national powers). USC has played good teams. Notre Dame will schedule tough games back when they were good. UGA….NEVER, EVER schedules anyone that is a true danger to our 10 win seasons unless we are down or have severly limited coaching.

Show proof…What team has UGA played and give the year. Remember the team must be national not Jacksonville State the year they won such and such conference. Clemson doesn’t count…even the bugs kick their butts! Name someone with some ability to bite back!!! I personally have been a Dawg fan since the 1970’s and can’t name a single game! Boise State, Clemson, etc. but nobody that truly were a threat to our established glass throne. We do not believe in taking chances and if you talk to people outside the Southeast they don’t see UGA as a National power. Alabama, Florida, LSU and shoot even Tennessee gets more respect nationally because they will play someone outside every blue moon. I remember FSU playing ND back when both were great teams. Miami schedules Oklahoma (not to be confused with us scheduling Oklahoma State and the resulting plummet in year in and year out ability…in other words they played toughness we played Cinderella – the real Cinderella in a dress, slippers, the whole ball of wax). Be honest and critique our scheduling honestly….I do love the Dawgs….but we schedule the pansies of the world in out of conference games. Only Oregon is scheduled in the future that could challenge us but that is so far off as to have been done and allowed only after Richt has retired. And be honest…Oregon is not USC, Ohio State, Texas, Oklahoma or shoot even Penn State, Michigan, Virginia Tech, FSU, Miami, etc. etc. They play in the weak Pac 10 and certainly do not get the talent we get annually.

More gimmics from Damon Evans is correct, proving that the Peter Principle is still alive and well. Yet another mindless attempt to attract the National Media to UGA. UGA already plays one game at a “neutral” sight in late October vs.Florida, not really sure we need two. And Evans constantly trying to sell the “UGA brand” by having the team travel from coast to coast is hard on the coaching staff and team. Here’s a novel concept:win most of your games and win your conference championship! Seemed to work pretty well in the past. Championships get media attention, not gimmics. And if ESPN doesn’t want to reconize UGA as a National power, then to hell with them. We don’t need their stamp of approval!

UGA rules, Who did UF play in their rise?

Furhter fi UGA schedules as suggest it could be more harmful than an asset. Auburn ‘04 after dropping 2 to USC.

USC does not have any further big games scheduled OOC. Look it up besides Auburn was down when the game was scheduled and Arkansas is rarely elite sort of like Okie St or Az St. So the argument could be made that most often USC schedules pansies other than maybe tOSU which has questionable strength at the moment. Nebraska is a big name but has not been good since the 90s.

The teams may play in a weaker conf but that means they don’t have to play strong teams week in week out. UGA must take a look at keeping depth and not just big games. UF built their program on dominating the SEC especially the East. UF has not played an OOC BCS team outside of Florida since the early 90s and has played Miami 3 times all since 2000 in the regular season.

IMO UGA is on the right path on OOC Strength schedule 1 respectable game and GT. If UGA wins the SEC with an equal record to the BCS conf champs, UGA shold be in the BCS title game. UGA needs to concentrate on winning the SEC now.

Notre Dame and Miami: Talk about a history of playing pansies!! Both Notre Dame and Miami HAD to schedule tough non-conference teams because their conference was either weak( Miami) or they were independant( Notre Dame). Both Miami and Notre Dame would only end up playing 3 tough games a year during the 80’s. It’s not hard to win 10 games when you’re beating up on the likes of a Temple, Navy, or a Rutgers.

Willingham went to one Rose Bowl during his time at Stanford. The rest of his teams there were very mediocre. His teams at Washington were even worse. Weis had no head coaching experience, and attempted to coach college kids like they were NFL veterans. Brian Kelly is a proven winner at the college level, and the hopes are high in South Bend. Actually, it would be ironic to see ND play in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic that inaugurates the relocated College Football Hall of Fame, since it is moving to Atlanta from South Bend.

Better be a Louisiana Monroe – UGA has slid back into the pack.
Hey, that is reality – and I know what it feels like.

Richt’s career reminds me of Fulmer – minus the National Title. UGA was exciting when he got there – UT was starting to slide. Now the cycle is turing – UT is starting an up cycle – UGA is trying to hang on.

All recruits see this and know this – look at how UGA has lost postion with IN STATE RECRUITING.
– Look how ALABAMA and FLORIDA and grabbing who the want.
– Recent successes by TENNESSEE, FSU, AUBURN and GT

What does this mean? It means that UGA did not maintain – recruits feel this, sense this, know this – and UGA focusses on FLORIDA because they are losing battles with the IN STATE BLUE CHIPS.

I bet you that the CARVER-COLUMBUS kids DO NOT go to UGA.

Saw this on a blog last night:

SEC EAST RECORDS last four years:

FL – 19-1
UT – 14-6
UGA – 10-10
SC – 8-12
KY ?
Vandy?

WHY is comparing SEC EAST schedules relevant? Because this is OUR division and against common opponents year in and year out. With the rotation of SEC WEST – and the permanent – it is not apples to apples. comparing SEC EAST is apples to apples.

Now here is the kicker – compare to Jim Donnan’s last 4 years:
JD – 13-7
MR – 10-10

and remember – Spurrier and Fulmer were top 5 at the time – this shows that Richt’s leadership, recruiting, and coaching staff have done a NOT SO GOOD of JOB!

OTTO and UGA RULES – good arguement between you two.

And remember this – GUYS -IT’S NOT ABOUT THE WINS – IT’S ALL ABOUT THE LOSSES!!!

The bowls prove year end and year out – it’s about how many losses you have – see Hawaill in 2008. who did they play? You go undefeated – you play in BIG TIME BOWL. It’s reality.

If you are smart – you strictly focus on your conference games – and use the other games as tune ups and live scrimmages. Florida does this every year – with the exception of FSU.

SEC teams do not have to schedule OOC national powers as this conference is TOP HEAVY – and at the end of the day – it’s the amount of LOSSES you have that matters – not wins.

TENNESSEE schedules more national powers OCC – why? NEEDS – HS football in Tennessee is not deep – we rely on recruiting Nationally to compete. WE have to recruit kids from all over – it’s NEEDS based!

Florida, Alabama, AUB, UGA and LSU – have great recruiting advantages because those states have so much better BLUE CHIP High School football Programs. Look at Tennessee’s football roster and count how many are home grown – it will shock you!!!! Not many at all.

What about BIG 10 and Pac 10?

You see some good OOC games every year – but B10 tradionally plays fewer conference games and has to schedule MORE OCC.

Look at Ohio STATES OOC schedule year in and year out. Give them props for playing USC or TEXAS – with their weak schedule – they needed to beef up for some respect – but this is ONE game a year – and the B!) is not deep. Ohio State has made a living playing AT HOME against AKRON, YOUNGSTOWN STATE, TOLEDO, OHIO UNIVERSITY, etc. Can’t blames them – guarenteed win – guarenteed home game – guarenteed dollars – less risk to get to major bowl or beaten up before MICHIGAN show down.

UGA plays GT every year – still has to deal with Florida, Aubrn, Tennessee, – then SC and KY – then rotate in SEC WEST – ARK, ALA, LSU -OLE MISS.

UGA focusses on CONFERNCE GAMES and GT – then schedules OOC like what FLORIDA or AUBURN – then UGA is in better position to get to a better bowl game – play more games at home – keep the money – play depth – less risk for injury – and play for a TITLE.

I don’t understand this whole notion that playing in the Georgia Dome somehow gives these out of state programs a big edge in recruiting Georgia. Like high school football players in Georgia have never heard of Bama, Clemson, or VT football without them coming to town for the Chicken Classic every year. Get real. They have cable television and the internet. They watch the games on TV and read about them on the internet just like the rest of us. Bama recruits Georgia well because Nick Saban is their coach and he wins championships. He would recruit Georgia well regardless of the Chicken Classic. Some stud 5 star guy isn’t going to go to Clemson just because they played in the Georgia Dome one year. Big harry freaking deal. Like playing in the Dome is some unique once in a lifetime experience or something.

I think the Chicken Classic is a great idea but don’t buy this crap about how it impacts recruiting in Georgia. I hear that thrown around a lot and I think its bogus. Thanks for listening to my rant.

I couldn’t agree more and was the point I was trying to make. Georgia took it’s 4th OOC game and went after another BCS to play. I still like this move, but don’t want to add a season opener against another BCS team at the dome if it means we have to give up a “warm up” team to do it.

I would rather see the other SEC teams go out and play better schools OOC, since they are so awesome, and prove they are the best. Lets face it, since 2006 when we went to 4 annual OOC games, UF has had one ranked OOC opponent. LSU one. UT one. UGA three.

I like:

1. Move GA-FLA to opening weekend every year and rotate between ATL and JAX, continuing the 50/50 spilt on tickets and resulting bowl-like game atmosphere you’d lose if we ever go home/home. Then, even if Bama and others wanted to play in ATL in the years we play in JAX we’d still have an equal or better headliner for recruting and “branding” purposes.

2. Sign a deal with Texas or Oklahome to play opening weekend in ATL and then the follwoing season at Jerry’s place in Dallas. Arrange a 70/30 or 60/40 allocation on tickets, which would still promote somewhat of a regional “home” feeling, but allow more fans from the “visiting” school to get to a huge non-conference game they otherwise would never have a chance to if they played a true home/home. Huge appeal for Jerry’s ego, and either match-up would have much greater national appeal as a true “kick-off” game than the SEC-ACC match-ups we’ve seen so far at the Dome. Recruiting potential for the “vistitor”, but at the same time not necessarily infringing on the “home” team’s core recruiting turf.

3. Same scenario as Texas or Oklahoma, but schedule Notre Dame in a similar split between ATL and the new Giants Stadium in New York. Again, the ticket split allows greater appeal to fans. ND has a history of playing these “road” games in the past, so there might be a selling opportunity there. The idea of UGA playing Army in New York has been flaoted before, so this might not be too far-fetched.

LOWNDES COUNTY – from one Southerner to another – the confederate flag belongs in a museum. The CSA was oppressive to the rights of Black people and was a slap in the face to the freedoms and dreams of our founding fathers.

You are correct in that the UNITED STATES did not invent slavery.

Slavery was here when our founding fathers formed this great country – and they also knew that Slavery would have to be abolished in order for this country’s potential and ideals were to be truly realized.

Did you know that Virginia and Georgia – as colonies – tried to outlaw slavery upon their formation – only to be blocked and turned down by the King of England?

A high majority of CSA soldiers did not own slaves – they fought for the CSA as STATEs were more independent and were more like countries at the time.

However – and let’s be CLEAR – this is not historical revision. The MAIN reason the CIVIL war was fought was because so STATE’s rights….. and the SOUTHHERN STATES underlying reason was labor – SLAVE LABOR – until it ran it’s course.

All countries have bad history – All do. All countries have blood on their hands. It is the struggle of man – and will continue to do so. However – name a country that went to WAR with itself – with SLAVERY as the underlying reason.

Say what you will about this country – it’s history, etc. There is not a more EXCEPTIONAL country currently on this planet. This is truly an incredible country where an immigrant can have nothing – and die wealthy.

My concern is that this used to be the country of independence – can do attitude – where nobody owed you anything. Now, thanks to both DEMOCRATS and REPUBLICANS – they have decided to make this the country of ENTITLEMENT. We are quickly turning into a Socialized European Country with Huge Debt – people feel entitled to have things provided for them. In stead of being a beacon of being Exceptional – our leaders want us all on equal footing with European Socialist. WHY???? Because the rest of the world wants us to be like them – not them to be like us. And those PUSSIES we keep putting in Washington are chipping away at the FREEDOMS our founding fathers and ancestors fought and died for.

With that said – when Texas succeeds from the UNITED SOCIALIST STATES of AMERICA – I’m moving to DALLAS!!!

Everyone wanting UGA to move a game to the dome need to explain one thing. What impact would come from playing 60 miles from campus that a home game in Athens would not do. UGA needs to concentrate on who they are playing and winning. If UGA can go back to beating UT, UA and UF every other year they will get the hype and publicity they need for recruiting. Someone said it earlier but Alabama, Florida, etc. are not recruiting the state of GA because they play in August, they recruit well because they have top coaches that play in Atlanta in December. If we win our games the rest will take care of itself.

Bama Stan, Don’t leave out protective tariffs as a driving reason behind the war.

Vols Rule, Solid points. Agreed on UT. Fulmer did a solid job recruiting out of state and out of the southeast for much of his time as HC. I do agree UGA does not need the OOC as bad as others but does need something to change the image UGA built up by not traveling.

The SEC is top heavy at the moment but that could change if some of the younger coaches don’t pan out and Les flames out.

Dawgs should play MTSU, oh wait they already do! Seriously, the UGA/Clemson matchups were always outstanding and that would be the best 1 time match up. Might even convice Evans to put the Tigers back on the home/home rotation.

[...] • Mr. Evans, make it so. Georgia athletic director Damon Evans suggested Monday night that he wants in on the annual “Kickoff Classic” game in the Georgia Dome, more proof that Chick-Fil-A’s primetime, season-opening extravaganza is here to stay for the foreseeable future. Georgia is an obvious choice for any big game in Atlanta, and a promising one, if only because it’s probably the only realistic chance the Bulldogs have of renewing their formerly fierce rivalry with Clemson, spring practice notwithstanding. I admire Alabama and always have way back into the 60s. I am a UGA born and bred Dog. Also, a UGA grad ……….twice. Crimson Tide football is the SEC brand that we all know ( my age anyway ) is real.

Say bye bye to Nick The Hat Trick Sabin as he will blow to MI for 2011. He loves to b-u-i-l-d a program and he has now built Bama BACK into a NC. He will likely win it in 2010. Congrats. He is not like Bear, who apparently wanted a long term gig. Nick is driven by building something in his own image.

Say goodbye to Nick after this season. Why would he stay? He loves the midwest and Tuscaloosa is a hell hole IF you are not southern born or from Alabama. Say bye bye.

Has playing Florida in Jacksonville helped UGA recruit in Jax or in Florida in general? Probably not since the Dawgs are usually embarrassed down there. Playing in the Dome wont make any difference either. The Dawgs need to focus on winning the SEC East, not playing in exhibition games like Ok State, Colorado, or a Dome game. Wow, I cant believe Jim Donnan did a better job in the SEC East his last four years compared to Richt’s last four years.

Soutnerners are the only group left for whom there is no limit to the bigotry and deerision thrust upon them. We’re here to be the nation’s whipping boys and girls. Agricultural economies cannot compete against industrialized economies. Economics were the cause of that war. Bama! putting the C.S.A. flag in a museum is fine. It’s the fact that yanks make the south sound evil write history how they want. Let the truth be told and people will move on. Dont make it out like yanks are heroes who lost their lives to free slaves. Dear Abe Lincoln, had no problem letting them hang them indians without trial to win the vote in Minnesota to win the vote did ya?(my pregnant gf just pointed out them indians is not grammaticaly correct, whoops) How is it that Abe was a hero but yet he thought “I will say, then, that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races—that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this, that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I, as much as any other man, am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.”

While I do not consider the Confederate flag to be evil I do agree that discussion of the history behind it does not belong on the Dawg Vent. It has nothing to do with sports and ALL political commentary belongs somewhere else. UGA is missing the boat by not playing UGA/Fla and UGA/ Tech in the dome every other year on a rotating basis. That is just plain common sense and a big money maker. They can’t do it now because our overpaid AD and his board just agreed to keep the UGA/Fla game in Jax forever- which obviously is always an away game for UGA and a big advantage to Florida – but anything for money I guess.

There are three matchups that I find intresting. 1- Notre Dame, a new coach that needs to make some noise, Syracuse and Tulsa just don’t cut it on the national stage. The game is at a neutral site so it should be do-able if Damon can get things square with the Notre Dame Broadcasting Company. 2- FSU, it has been years since the Dawgs and ‘Noles have played. It is a shame a game could’nt have been scheduled for Pappy’s swan song. Playing FSU could help regain UGA’s dominance of South Ga recruiting and help extend the Dogs inroads into Florida. 3- Army, set aside 10,000 tickets to offer at reduced prices to those that attend in uniform. Great national exposer and lots of good PR, plus, with two wars going on I think it would be the right thing to do.
