NFL teams making Brandon Spikes answer for Ealey eye gouge

Former Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes faced an obvious question from potential employers at the NFL Combine.

The Gainesville (Fla.) Sun says the question went like this:

“Why did you try to gouge a player’s eyes out?”

The player, of course, was Georgia freshman running back Washaun Ealey.

And Spikes’ answer to the NFL teams that asked the question?

“I told them it’s the SEC, Florida-Georgia is a big rivalry,” Spikes said, according to the Sun. “There were a lot of emotions going on. Both sides were taking shots at each other. But that’s why I suspended myself. That’s not the way the game is supposed to be played.”

The apparent attempted eye-gouging –-  cameras caught Spikes sticking his fingers inside Ealey’s facemask — occurred during Florida’s Oct. 31 victory over Georgia. Spikes was suspended for one half of the following game by Florida coach Urban Meyer, and the player extended his own suspension to a full game because, he said at the Combine,  “I didn’t want young guys to think that was the right way to play the game.”

It always makes me laugh when I see UGA Grads questioning UF academic standards. You may want to do a little research first. UF>UGA.

to hmmmmm…..

Don’t know about you but my eyes are about an 1 inch from my mouth. All you have to is pull Spikes hand down a tad and bite his fingers. Or you can grab his wrist, and pull his fingers back until they snap. I can assure you it that it’s very doable, not to mention painful. If I could demonstrate for you I would.

As for Richt owning up to the endzone dance, perhaps I should have said that I wanted Richt to say that he his glad that he did it instead of apologizing for it. It clearly worked. Preparation is what won the game, but the endzone dance no doubt gave the Dawgs the juice they needed to finish the Gators off. I think if you’re going to take a rivalry to another level, then you need to get your team ready to play at that level every year. That’s all I’m saying.

dan I agree with you about Richt owning up to the celebration. He said he didn’t want the whole team to go out but the TV cameras clearly showed him laughing and approving on the sideline. He is a lying hypocrite.

Underachiever.

I think the real question is why can’t spikes finish the drill? Tried to poke eyes out and failed on national tv. Go back to the film room and watch some 3 stooges tape.

2 Possibilities for Tebow?

March 2nd, 2010

1) Tebow did a 38 inch vertical in combines. No use for a QB, but how about a Mascot for a football team??

2) Back up to Matthew Stafford, in case Stafford gets hurt.

No Excuses, Reality Check- US News Rankings- Vandy 17, UF 47, UGA 58. You are not in the same league as Vandy. Neither are we. We all went to very good schools, didn’t play football, and should be doing other things with our time than this. I will have to admit, this is infectious.

Florida is the dirtiest and most classless program in the SEC. They talk more jive and do more showboating in one game than most team’s do in an entire season. We have to respect their many wins, but we do not have to respect the way the conduct themselves both on and off the field. It is quite telling that Spikes even thought he could get away with the eye gouging incident. SEC refs have let these punks get away with murder the past two seasons. It might as well be written in stone in the rule book that excessive celebration penalties do not apply to the Florida Gators. If AJ Green so much as glances at the crowd its 15 yards. If Tim Tebow does a Gator Chomp or Dustin Doe showboats in to the endzone its just competitive young men caught up in the emotion of the game. Its absolutely laughable. Its no wonder that the punks on Florida’s football team think they can get away with anything. They can.

And how in the hell did Spikes get away with it? It was right there in plain view for all the world to see. Unbelievable.

I think this is the year that Meyer’s arrogance finally catches up to him. Good luck with that leave of absence bro. Nobody else in the SEC is on a leave of absence. We’ll see how it works out for you. New QB. An entire defense gone. Maybe not the best time for a leave of absence, but I’m certainly not complaining.

dawgfan Florida dirtiest and UGA most penalized; why all the penalties? Oh I forgot the refs hate uga. Leave of absence? He is better on leave than Zook was when he worked 13 months out of the year and UGA was the Zookers bitch. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaahahahahhahahah.

“Why did you try to gouge a player’s eyes out?”

or the other question that the reporter was afraid to pose face to face:

“Are you stupid?”

There were cheap shots from both sides. That one was just caught on a close-up camera. UGA has been doing that type thing for years. They love to point the finger at the other side. But they’re just as guilty.

Tebow Job as NFL Mascot?

If you draft Tebow, you’re getting a good leaper.

You don’t need to pay a million dollars to have a mascot sitting on your bench for 3 years contributing nothing to your team.

The players will resent him, because he’s not contributing, and if you put him in in 1-2 years with this motion, he’s doomed.

Sorry Tebow, the Mascot job is looking good.

Spikes is no worse than a lot of other coddled athletes who’ve grown up with an entitlement mentality. By the time they’re in their late teens, these guys have been forgiven so many times that they automatically expect it, and eventually they no longer have a sense of right or wrong.

UGA alum, you make my point. Granthams only DC experience got him canned by the Cleveland Freaking Browns. He didnt call the defense for the boys, he was their line coach which by most in football would least qualify you to be a coordinator. And how did that Defense do against 40 year old Brett Favre? Course one would hope he would be a little better than CMR’s last hire! This is too funny!
