Like his dunks, Travis Leslie’s stock is soaring.
NBADraft.net has elevated the Georgia sophomore to a lottery pick in its latest 2011 mock draft. The website has Leslie, a sophomore from Decatur, as the No. 12 pick in the ‘11 draft.
In the same mock, NBADraft.net has Leslie’s teammate and fellow sophomore Trey Thompkins as the No. 19 pick in the 2011 draft.
The website doesn’t contemplate either player entering the 2010 draft, by the way.
A few other notes this morning:
– UGA’s official list of injured players who will miss or be limited during spring football practice, which starts March 4: OL Justin Anderson (limited, shoulder); OL Austin Long (out, back); DE Jeremy Longo (out, knee); FB Fred Munzenmaier (limited, shoulder); S Josh Murray (limited, shoulder); WR Craig Sager (shoulder); OL Tanner Strickland (limited, shoulder); OL Trinton Sturdivant (out, knee).
– ESPN’s Mel Kiper, the dean of NFL draft gurus, currently has seven SEC players going in the first round of this year’s draft, led by Tennessee safety Eric Berry at No. 3. No Georgia players among the first-rounders.
– Weekend roundup: UGA’s women’s team won the SEC Swimming and Diving Championship, held in Athens. Georgia finished third on the men’s side. . . . The baseball team started the season by splitting four games in an opening-weekend event in Waco, Texas, going 1-1 against Baylor and 1-1 against Duke. Outfielder Zach Cone got his season off to a great start, going 11-for-16 in the four games. . . . The women’s basketball team lost at Florida to drop to 7-7 in the SEC. . . . The gymnastics team posted its second-highest score of the season but lost at Florida by a 10th of a point. The GymDogs moved up to No. 5 in the latest Top 25 released today.

As long as both Leslie and Thompkins stay for next year, Georgia’s ascension will continue. Can’t wait to see how we do in year two of the Mark Fox Era.

Trey could definitely leave. Although he has the body and the game, he would benefit from another year at UGA. Leslie has just begun coming into his own. Don’t understand the high ranking. He needs at least one more year.

I hope we can keep both Travis and Trey. I think it would benefit them (and us) to stay another year. Especially Travis. If we can land a few more top recruits to help take some of the load off them 2, next year could be a pretty good year. Fox is doing a great job with what he has to work with.

You got that right! “UGA thinks and performs at a different level than GT”.
UGA has always lacked in mental aptitude compared to Tech but been able to retain its self esteem due to an edge on the football field. But now that even that has been taken away from you, you dog nation AH’s have REALLY gotten louder and prouder (here) and become the biggest cry babies in the south (and possibly the entire NCAA). You have grown accustomed to being abused by Florida, Alabama, Tennessee and LSU and now that Tech and Kentucky are getting in on the act and starting to bitch slap you sideways and send you to the likes of Shreveport, you just can’t handle it. I mean, you try but just can’t. And that’s why, little man, that you see so many other schools rip you here. You guys have more enemies that Notre Dame and actually play quite like them too. Get a life and get on the gymnastics blogs will you?

NBADraft.net publishes their mock drafts based on the continued improvement of the players. If Leslie doesn’t improve as much next year, no lottery pick. If he continues the improvement he has shown in the last year, he is a potential lottery pick, but his size will limit his potential some. Same with Thompkins. Trey is more NBA ready than Leslie IMO and would be a 1st round pick this year. Leslie could be too, but he disappears sometimes and he is only currently known on the national stage as the Neo Human Highlight Film. His game still has room to grow, specifically from long range where UGA will need it next season after McPhee leaves.

When money is waved, 19-21 year-olds often do stupid things. The most recent example of a clear-cut NBA talent from UGA who wasn’t ready to take the money and run was Jumaine Jones. As a result he bacame a marginal NBA guy who kicked around for a while before heading overseas. I’d hate for the same thing to happen to Trey. If he were to stay all four years and continue to improve, I could see him becoming a top 3 or 4 pick worthy of a very, very big contract and sufficiently seasoned to be an impact player in the NBA. Right now, people are excited about Leslie’s NBA athleticism. If he would stick around for two more years and work hard on his jumper and, in particular, his ball handling skills, its conceivable that he could develop into a D. Wade type player. It is hard to develop elite NBA skills sitting on the pine.
He didn’t have many words of wisdom as far as I am concerned, but Dennis Felton did (in my opinion) rightly say that Lou Williams may have cost himself millions of dollars by jumping to the NBA directly from high school rather than spending a couple of years in college. Turns out that Lou did OK given that he may not have developed much in two years under Felton’s tutelage. But had Williams been going to play under Roy williams, Calapari, Coach K, or even Mark Fox, Felton would have been right on.

Yellow fluff, Buzz buzz buzz, blah blah blah. I guess the truth of your situation is just too difficult for you to accept. You blobs of yellow puke managed to win 1 of 8 (which brought your recent total up to 5 wins over UGA since 1990, yes that’s 5 in two decades.) And somehow from this you imagine that you have conquered the State. How delusional can a bunch of nerds get?
While you do have a better coach than your previous one, it is just not enough. UGA had one of its worst years in a long while and still beat/won the ACC. 30-24, and it really wasn’t that close.
Bees are supposed to be the experts at swarming, but just wait until you get a look at what Coach Grantham and company has for you this fall. (((((Bwahahahahaha))))) It will just get scarier and scarier as the season goes on and you see your future, and certain defeat, moving closer and closer.

Are all tech fans/students/graduates high and delusional, wannabe-terrorists, samurai sword wielding crazies, or egocentric maniacs nicknamed “Cliff”? Mostly, i’ll be covering the majority.. Those of you who seriously think you are/were/or ever will be a “better football program” than UGA, you need to have psychiatric exams, or drug tests. Your program will always be second to UGA barring a catastrophic event involving Athens Ga, the campus, or the team/players. Why do think our stadium holds twice as many fans as yours? Before you answer, remember all of those empty seats, and loose gimmicks in an attempt to fill them. Why do you think we consistently rank top twenty in recruiting, and mid thirties is the best you’ve had in an entire class? Every talented young man who is serious about the sport of football, growing up in the state of Georgia, and who wants to have a legitimate career in the NFL only thinks of one hometown college in this state. Your team is full of Brooking/Reggie ball ‘esqe players who fight harder for one game at the end of November every year, only to have a realistic one out of ten chance to win. If you wanna go back further than ten years, go the whole way. Almost a full two wins to every one of yours. Quit coming onto our blogs, like St. Simons, and that duece Goldtimer, and running your mouths to older , much bigger and stronger, brother UGA. What would any normal big brother do to the smaller brother who runs his mouth? Smack him in it. That’s what you’re feeling every November. You win one by three points, and you parade around showing your short, shriveled, and crooked stingers, and expect big brother to put up with it? THATS why our worst in ten beat your best in almost twenty. Remember the 2008 rings? The hedges? THATS why we planted our flag in the middle of that high school field Bobby-Dodd after we straightened out all of that mouth running from such an inferior opponent. Our victory over you may have been the icing on the cake of realizing we need to run the ball at the end of the season, but it didn’t “make” our season. You know why, Tasty Bees? Because we are SUPPOSED TO BEAT YOU. You may as well count as our yearly donation to a div. 1AA team. We own you. AND you know it. YOU MAY ARGUE, BUT YOU KNOW IT.

Foxhounds, I wasn’t aware that an exercise existed to prevent injury to the ACL. If you know of such an exercise you are wasting your time on the blogs, the NFL will pay you millions! Oh, Sturdivant was all SEC as a true Freshman, not what one would call a “bust”.

The Fox strong point is player development. Gave him a couple of years recruiting and the program could return to the “Tubby” era or surpass.

…if only “Yellow Fuzz” loved anything as much as he hates everything. What a sad state of mind inside this guy’s (girl’s?) dome. As a psych major, i can openly admit that only , generically speaking, psychos and mental-issue children carry around this much hatred…with the willingness to spew hatred at anything and everything. Going out of your way in a childish attempt to ruin someone else’s happiness…just WOW!!! Immaturity at it’s best, ladies and gentleman. And this is why he/she is on here every day. He/She has no friends, and is a tormented, lonely soul. I mean how dare someone else be content and happy when his/her life is at the bottow with no way up. Pathetic, Yellow Fuzz, yet anyone who has their feathers ruffled by this character must look at themselves first. I, personally pity this fool, and merely laugh at his excuse for a life. Get some help, and i hope it’s not a Bulldog you get it from. Go Dawgs…

Here is an interesting thought–Fox has recently been getting a whole lot of praise for his efforts this year. But, as this article highlights, in reality, we can probably attribute the little success the basketball team has enjoyed this year to the recruiting efforts of the departed Dennis Felton. Coaches just whine, players are the ones who make plays and win games.
With that said, my prediction is that thompkins–one of the sec’s premier players–will leave for the nba this year; while i would hope and almost expect Leslie to stay for one more year. Either way, this should all mean nothing but positive things for potential georgia recruits.
—just my two cents, but i’m a little hesistant to drink the Fox kool-aid just yet–

0 hope that we will do anything in The SEC this year either.
Right ? Or, wrong that we have 0 hope in SEC this year ?

What I love are the DISNEYdawg.com posters who run in here and regurgitate that in the Coach Richt Era, his record on Opponent’s Field is more wins in The SEC than any other SEC team.

.
Read that to mean that they do not want you to discuss

# 2 what Coach Richt’s Record in The SEC is on Neutral Fields
# 3 what Coach Richt’s Record in The SEC is altogether

RED DOG 77 says no one can come in here and point out these FACTS.
That no one is a Bulldog fan who does face up to what we in FACT are.
That he doesn’t read it.
You know why ?
Because RED DOG 77 doesn’t want to know.
Because RED DOG 77 thinks if he HIDES THE FACTS that it will help in the recruiting, but the recruits KNOW what the FACTS are on UGA. Do you believe they do ? Or believe they do NOT and that by HIDING THE FACTS, that they WILL NOT FIND OUT the FACTS ?
Because RED DOG 77 thinks if he HIDES THE FACTS that it will make the players on the team feel more positive about themselves. Heaven forbid our players should actually play a HOME game at UGA and feel like they NEED to DO A LOT BETTER THAN THEY HAVE BEEN at HOME. Heaven forbid our players should actually play a game on a NEUTRAL FIELD and feel like they NEED to DO A LOT BETTER THAN THEY HAVE BEEN on NEUTRAL FIELDS.
Let’s all treat the recruits and the players on our team like Mushrooms and keep them in the dark and feed them B.S.
Act like EVERY Recruit considering UGA and act like EVERY Player for UGA ever is a total dumb slit.
You can’t talk about our Offense. You can’t point out for 4 years in a ROW on Offense now, we have led the ENTIRE NATION in penalties, for 4 years in a ROW on Offense now, we have led the ENTIRE NATION in fumbles, for 4 years in a ROW on Offense now, we have led the ENTIRE NATION in interceptions.
And, that all we have this year is 3 Freshmen Quarterbacks, none of whom has EVEN THROWN A PASS.
March 2010. Last time Coach Richt beat a Top 10 Final AP Poll team Nov 2006.
He beat # 9 Final AP Poll Auburn November 2006.
He beat # 6 Final AP Poll LSU in 2005.
Coach Richt declared that HE KNOCKED THE LID OFF THE GEORGIA BULLDOGS’ FOOTBALL PROGRAM by beating # 4 Final AP Poll Tennessee vols in 2001.
KNOCKED THE LID OFF THE GEORGIA BULLDOGS’ FOOTBALL PROGRAM in 2001 ?
He did ?
Let’s look at his 2001 season, please shall we to see if he KNOCKED THE LID OFF THE GEORGIA BULLDOGS’ FOOTBALL PROGRAM, or NOT ?
UGA Ended up ranked # 22 in the Final AP Poll 2001.
LOST to Boston College # 21 in the Final AP Poll 2001.
LOST to South Carolina # 13 in the Final AP Poll 2001.
LOST to Florida # 3 in the Final AP Poll 2001.
LOST to 7-5 Auburn UNRANKED Final AP Poll 2001.
BEAT 8-5 Georgia tek # 24 Final AP Poll 2001.
BEAT # 4 Final AP Poll Tennessee 2001.
It’s 10 years now since HE KNOCKED THE LID OFF THE GEORGIA BULLDOGS’ FOOTBALL PROGRAM.
2001 (1) LOST 1 SEC NEUTRAL FIELD game
2001 (2) LOST 2 SEC HOME games at Sanford.
2001 (3) LOST to 3 SEC teams, none at their stadium.
2001 (4) LOST 4 games while Miami of Florida LOST 0.
2001 (5) LOST to Florida.
2001 (6) LOST to 1 UNRANKED Top 25 Final AP Poll team.
2001 (7) Played a CRAPPY Opponent in a bowl game.
2001 (8) Failed to beat Florida & vols in the same year.
THAT is KNOCKING THE LID OFF THE GEORGIA BULLDOGS’ FOOTBALL PROGRAM to beat # 4 Final AP Poll Tennessee vols in 2001 ?
That is what Coach Richt said.
It was music to our ears in 2001. It was what we wanted to hear way back then 10 years ago, now.
Whose players was it that WON that game, Coach Richt’s Recruits or Jim Donnan’s Recruits ?
We have averaged 3 and a half LOSSES per year for the last 4 years in a row and COUNTING.
That is 14 LOSSES the last 4 years in a row, now.
That is with Matthew Stafford, AJ Green and Knowshon Moreno.
Jim Donnan’s last 4 years in a row, he only LOST 13 games.
14 LOSSES Coach Richt his last 4 years now.
13 LOSSES Jim Donnan his last 4 years in a row.
WE FIRED JIM DONNAN FOR THAT. Wanted MORE.
Coach Richt now 10 years later that Coach Richt, that HE KNOCKED THE LID OFF THE GEORGIA BULLDOGS’ FOOTBALL PROGRAM in 2001 beating # 4 Final AP Poll Tennessee vols 26-24 on the hobnail boot; Who is now 10 years later drinking this KOOL-AID ?

Would you people take this crap somewhere else? Everytime I try to find a meaningful discussion about the dawgs I have to filter about 80% of the posts. This is worse than the old uncensored newgroups. Go meet somewhere and use the Paul Johnson method of persuasion. This isn’t meaningful to anyone.
I am concerned about the number of shoulder injuries. It appears that too many people, especially linemen, are limited or out with shoulder injuries. The questions are, is this normal, and how do they avoid these issues?
I too would like to see more on baseball and other UGA sports. Heck, the gymnatics program can’t ever get more than a couple inches of ink. How many titles do you need to win to get a few features?

i was at the Bama game this past Saturday and I was thoroughly impressed with the product on the floor, most notably coaching.
around the 12 min mark of the second half, Fox called a TO. i saw him grab the whiteboard and draw a play. it worked beautifully (though Jackson missed the dunk).
That’s coaching. Felton never drew up a play. His asst coach did it. Fox drew it up perfectly.
He is prepared every game and I think saturday was especially sweet considering he beat Anthony Grant — the guy most UGA folks, including myself, wanted.
I am all in with Fox and I am buying season tickets next season.

J. Stokes. Bulldog nation Stokes can shoot it. . Already qualified. He would have three years with the Daws. Come over and see him play next tue. @ 7:00pm. We attended two of the Daws games. The kid would have started this year. He’s one of those under the Radar player. Just like McPhee,
but quicker & more aggressive. McPhee is quick. Just one JAG suggestion.
