‘Hartman Fund’ deadline passes; contributions ‘very similar’ to last year

The deadline passed at midnight Monday for University of Georgia fans to make their annual “Hartman Fund” contributions for the right to buy football season tickets. While a final tally won’t be determined for a week or two, UGA associate athletics director for external operations Alan Thomas said late Tuesday that he expects contributions to settle at about the same level as last year.

“It’s pretty fair to say the numbers are very, very similar to 2007 and 2009 [at this point],” Thomas said. “We’ll have much more specific numbers within two weeks.”

The number is fluid because, face it, contributions that arrive a few days after the “deadline” are not going to be turned down. And season-ticket holders who don’t make the minimum contributions necessary to keep their seats are contacted before their accounts are closed.

Thomas said that as of “right this moment,” about $20 million to $21 million in contributions have been booked. He said another  $2 million to $3 million usually comes in after the deadline. On that basis, he said he expects the final tally to be about the same as last year’s $23 million, which was down from the record $26 million in 2008 but roughly the same as in 2007.

“We got a significant amount of mail today, and we’ll get a significant amount tomorrow,” Thomas said Tuesday. “We’re in the range of where we were [at this point last year].”

At its meeting on Feb. 3, the UGA Athletic Association’s board of directors  was told that early Hartman Fund contributions were “tracking similar to 2009.” With the warning that “it is too early to predict the final numbers,” the board at that meeting was provided figures through Jan. 25.  Contributions of $7,007,010 had been received from 4,040 donors as of Jan. 25,  compared with contributions of $6,434,806 from 3,667 donors at a similar point in 2009.  Not surprisingly, most contributions tend to come in at or near the deadline each year.

Among customers who have made contributions this year, a relatively small number –- 200 to 300 -– donated less than the minimum required to keep all of their seats, Thomas said Tuesday. That suggests those customers plan to retain a smaller number of season tickets than they had last year — perhaps reducing from six seats to four, for example.

Georgia, like many major-college football programs, requires donations from fans before allowing them to buy or renew season tickets. For existing season-ticket holders, a minimum contribution of $250 to $2,000 per seat per year -– the amount depends on seat location –- earns the right to buy the tickets for $40 per seat per game. Contributions above required minimums gain additional benefits, such as the right to buy road and bowl tickets.

On March 9, Georgia will send season-ticket order forms to donors.

After all renewals are processed, new orders will be filled on the basis of customers’ lifetime contributions until the supply of available seats is exhausted. Last year, lifetime contributions of $4,205 were required to become a first-time season-ticket buyer. This year’s cutoff probably won’t be calculated until early summer.

Big Booster. you are INCORRECT.

The UGA Athletic Assocaition……is a multi-million dollar ogranization.

UGA itself is in BIG-TIME expense trouble b/c of State budget issues.

If UGA is in BIG TIME expense trouble,
why doesn’t the State propose the same
solution as City and County Schools?
UGA could consolidate with TECH and
reduce costs, and have a heck uva
football team.

Hmmmmmmmmm, lemme see here………………….

Those fans that paid the $10,000 fee in 2008, could have waited to 2009 and only paid $4200 for THE SAME PRIVILEDGE that the 2008 signees paid ??

I wonder how all of the 2008 paying fans feel about having
paid OVER DOUBLE for the EXACT SAME priviladge.

I guess the extra $5800 went tp pay for Damon Evans big new raise.

I get season tickets each year and buy some out of town tickets. The out of town tickets always costs more that the price form home games in Athens. I don’t know how other schools operate, but they seem to charge more for the actual tickets that UGA.

I can’t type worth a crap! I was trying to make the point that other SEC schools and some ACC schools charge more for tickets than UGA charges.

According to recent State research, 15 Middle & South Geiorgia counties
are currently on the verge of municipal bankruptcy right now.

There will be more than just local school consolidation.

In 2011, there’s going to be a consolidation of MULTIPLE COUNTIES in this State.

FWIW—that would be a good thing (county consolidation). Georgia with 159 counties has about 59 too many.

They’re really hurting for money. Two years ago they started charging Red Coat Alumni Band members to perform. (unless they were already tkt holders).

Start beating teams that count, as in FL, and don’t get 40+ laid on you, as in Tenn, and revenue will not be a problem—–ever.

i got tired of watching home games sitting on my couch the few years after college so early in 2007 i donated a grand and i guess that combined with whatever credit i got from graduation in 02 was enough to get me 2 season tickets. unfortunately i have seats 7 and 12 but i’m lucky that 4 great people sit between my seats and they always slide down with no problem so we can sit together and i’m on the shady side, 20 yard line, 11th row so the seats are great. it sure beats not having tickets so i feel bad for you guys unable to get tickets, like everything else in life i guess it was just good timing.

Louis, Jr…don’t know how many there will be at ’samford’ this year. But at SANFORD, no ‘m’, it’ll be full every stinkin’ week. You want tickets? Buy ‘em, if you can’t afford ‘em, too bad. I’d love a new Mercedes convertible, but can’t afford one, so I’ll keep driving my GMC. It’s called CAPITALISM. If the idiot in DC, the main idiot in DC, had his way, those that buy tickets would have only half of their donation count, and the rest would count toward a donation for some deserving soul who just couldn’t afford it. It’s called MARXISM.

Based on SAT scores, UGa would be tied for 10th in the ACC. They are 2d to Vandy in the SEC.

While watching the US speed skater win the gold medal last night (by 18-hundreths of a second) over the South Korea guy, I couldn’t help but wonder if that would have qualified as a severe “a$$ kicking” or “beat down” if he had been from uga.

I’ll give Richt one more year—he better win something big this year or I’m not renewing my tickets! I’m tired of paying thousands each year to watch a bunch of incompetent coaches put a mediocre product on the field. No more minor bowls!
