– The UGA Athletic Association’s latest financial projection is that it will generate $84.9 million in operating revenue for this fiscal year, up almost $5 million from the previous fiscal year. Operating expenses for this fiscal year, which ends June 30, are expected to be $69.5 million. The rest of the revenue will go largely to debt payments and into reserves, with $2 million going to the university to support academic programs. Athletic Association reserves are projected to reach a hefty $60.2 million by the end of the fiscal year. All of these figures come from financial statements provided to the Athletic Association’s board of directors.
– Look for Georgia center Albert Jackson, benched for Saturday’s basketball game against South Carolina after he was arrested Friday, to be back in action soon. “Albert is still with our group,” UGA coach Mark Fox said on the SEC teleconference, “and we should see him back this week.” The Dogs play at Tennessee on Wednesday and at home against Alabama on Saturday. Jackson, a senior, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear for arraignment on a June 2008 misdemeanor charge of hit-and-run of a parked vehicle.
– If you’re pining for spring, you’ll be glad to know that baseball season is right around the corner. The college season opens Friday, with David Perno’s Bulldogs in Waco, Texas, for four games in three days -– two against Baylor and two against Duke. The Dogs, ranked No. 22 in the Baseball America preseason poll, open their home season on Feb. 24 vs. Presbyterian.
– Back to basketball. Georgia has a winning record in SEC games at home (3-2) but is one of just two SEC teams (LSU the other) without a league victory on the road. Of course, LSU doesn’t have an SEC victory anywhere (0-11).
– And what are the odds of this? Georgia’s loss at Auburn last Wednesday evened the all-time series between the Dogs and Tigers at 87-87. And Georgia’s win against South Carolina on Saturday evened the all-time series between the Dogs and Gamecocks at 47-47.
– The preceding note got me to wondering: How many SEC schools does Georgia’s men’s basketball program have an all-time winning record against? Just one: Ole Miss.
– And if you missed it, check out this interesting story by my AJC colleague Carroll Rogers on the role Roy Williams has played in Mark Fox’s coaching career.

I’m excited about our three new defensive coach’s and the check book was opened to hire some talent. fresh eyes and schemes and fresh GATA from these new coach’s. I saw what 2 Grad Assit’s and Garner did in the bowl, I can’t wait to see three coach’s put a new stamp on our D.

How about losening up the purse strings to pay the support staff more money. We have coach’s secretaries making less than 25k per year even after 10-20 years service. Maintenance staff with many years service earning less than Damon and Frank Crumley’s bonuses. Sixty plus million in reserves should be enough to give some hourly and monthly raises. Millions for coaches…Okay. How about some for the people who get the work done?

I love how people like to point out “all the arrests that go on with the UGA football team” and compare them to UF and call UGA “thUGA”. All I see is a lot of guys who shouldn’t be driving or riding on scooters, as opposed to hitting women and being slammed drunk passed out on the road at a green light. Make no mistake about it, all arrests are not equal. Urban Meyer has had 28 player arrests during his tenure at UF, and none of them involved driving a scooter the wrong way on a one way road, or hitting a parked car. Warden Bowden is retired now, so I guess he handed the keys over to Warden Meyer and Warden Addazio. UF is a bunch of prison thugs being cheered on by mullets with jorts and gold jewelery. Stay classy gayturds.

How about little mascots? Shouldn’t they make big money when assistant coaches are making $750,000? Shouldn’t a little mascot be able to walk around campus without a painted a$$? Who are these people, anyway, that would paint a little dog’s a$$? If I was running things we’d paint Coach Richt’s a$$ and put sunglasses on it. Some people say I am still bitter.

WaltonDog, secretaries and maintenance personnel aren’t bringing any money into the university and there would be plenty of people to chose from who would have the necessary skills to replace them. Those folks should just be thankful to have a steady job in this economy. It’s not realistic to think they would get substantial pay increases because the athletic department is making a lot of money….where would be the correlation between the two?

WaltonDog, I have to say, your idea has merit. Good managers reward those who do their jobs well, whether it’s coaching the football team or keeping the Butts Mehre complex clean. All jobs have a place in the organization, and when the organization does well, the people doing those jobs should be rewarded.

Waltondog, the UGA Athletic Association is set up as a seperate entity than the actual University of GA. The secretaries and maintenence people are employed by the university not the athletic association. With that being said how do you not know these people do not receive bonuses from the athletic associaton? As a contractual worker for the university you get paid by the university and also by the UGAAA.

Glad to hear Albert will be back soon. Considering the fact that he has been a good student and never even been close to trouble, the whole thing sounded odd to me being a 2 year old warrant. I’m glad Coach Fox doesn’t release details, because it’s none of our business, but I would guess that the real story would be even less of a deal than “emerging from an alley” on a scooter.
Also happy to hear that the UGAAA has enough money to continue the capital improvements needed to remain competitive in recruiting for all of our sports.

You do realize that it was Georgia Tech that got put on probation in the 2000s for academic fraud in their athletic dept. Yes, it was Georgia Tech that served an NCAA probation for cheating on players grades. They raised the grades of 19 scholarship athletes to keep them eligible to compete. 11 were starting football players!!!!
Georgia Tech cheated and committed academic fraud and served time on NCAA probation. Hmmm! The truth slaps those buzzy bugs right in the face!

A two tier school is far better than .......3rd tier
February 16th, 2010
5:15 pm
First tier schools: Alabama, Texas, Florida and maybe USC and maybe Ohio State and I will throw in Oklahoma. All of these programs are lately NEW to this status and can drop out as their seaons unwind in 2010 and 2011 and 2012 ………over two or three years. One more fair year and OSU will drop to Second Tier.
Second Tier programs- UGA, Wisc. Penn Sta, LSU, Oregon or O State, and a few ( 3? ) others. Same is true in this level with elevation to FIRST TIER possible and dropping to Third Tier also possible. Auburn is a prime example. Lately a third tier school but soon in 2010 to be a Second Tier program. and maybe higher.
Third Tier programs: Most of the Big 10, ALL of the ACC and ALL of the Pac 10 except USC and rigtht now most of the SEC and all of the Mid America and Big East crap. FSU is a regular in this level but within two years might rise to Second Tier again. Formerly a First Tier program but just not lately. Michigan has come to rest as Third Tier, as yet one more example. UT is another prime example with three coaches in the last 500 days and one minor bolw and NONE in 08.
UGA? SOLID Second two tier program witnessed by $85,000,000.00 in REVENUE and consistent bowls like Capital One and Sugar lately. Another Independence and my DOGS will DROP to Third Tier. I am honest ………..they can also ELEVEVATE with a SEC EAST and Dome trip in 2010 and 2011. Dogs are on the ascendency from Second Tier. Possible this is.
Tech? Always, always, yes ……..always, a Third Tier program. If for exmaple they show up in the Orange and or the Cap One and or the Sugar in 2010 AND IN 2011, they will finally hit Second Tier. Bosie Blue carpet however is their historical venue come Bowl time.
Harsh facts for most of you but accurate.

After reading the blog for the past three days, about the QB battle, and all of the posts, nobody is mentioning what will be the most important factor in determining how successfull the Dawgs QB(and offense overall) will be this coming year.
If the Dawgs can carry the momentum over from last year in our running game, the offense will be successful no matter who the QB is.
Look at the MNC’s from the past four years; LSU, Florida and Bammer. Besides awesome defense, it was the running game that lead them.
These teams would establish a solid ground game, wearing out opposing defenses and setting up their passing games. When it was 3rd & 2 late in the game. What would those three teams do. Run Hester, Teabags and Mark Ingram up the middle. They knew it, their opponents knew it, the fans knew it, and they did it anyway and would convert the first down.
If UGA can establish their running game like they did the final four games of the season, the QB(whomever he is) won’t have as much pressure put on him. Later in the season Bobo can start to open up the passing game, even opening up a game passing out of play action.
I don’t know about yall, but i’m not comfortable putting the South Carolina(2nd game of the season) game in the hands of a red shirt freshman. Give the ball to Ealey and King and let them pound it.
That game at Tech last year was beautiful, starting the game running nine consecutive times(or whatever it was) leading to a scoring drive off of the 1st possesion. It sent a message; We’re going to hit you in the face and when you get back up, we’re going to hit you again!
call it ‘three yards and a cloud of dust’ if you want, but we all know that despite all of these challenging passing schemes out of spread formations, the running game is still where it’s at.
Now, if we can just do something about that defense!

Tim, you must have been reading my mind because I was thinking after the Auburn game last Saturday that UGA led NO ONE in the SEC as far as all-time wins are concerned. You’ve answered the question for me! Sadly, UGA used to lead Florida by a hefty margin, but that has changed since Billy D arrived and Gatorville became the “Hollywood” of Division 1 athletics. Good news is Georgia has a number of wins over Kentucky since 1978 and also had doubled Tennessee in series wins since the mid-eighties up until Bruce Pearl arrived. Now it’s a little more even. Overall, UGA has done fairly well since Durham arrived in ‘78 with the exception being probation years and breaking in a new coach.

I was embarrassed after the last uga game. Didn’t come around for a while. I think I’ll come around more often, like the old days. I know i’m stupid, childish and a pain in the ass. But I’m Yellow Fuzz A REAL A$$ HAT.

Only UGA -obsessed GT fans would still brag about a two-year old win that history shows was clearly an aberration. Of course, we’re the only true rival you have. GT/Clemson is a semi-rivalry that would be decent if either team ever turned out to be good. If we played Clemson, GT/Clemson would be even less significant. More teams list UGA as a rival than any other team in the country. UF, Tenn, AU, SC, GT. If UGA played Clemson we’d be just behind SC among their rivals.
BTW Ealey and C. King were both among the nations top 10 rushers for the week of the UGA/GT game.

While watching the US speed skater win the gold medal last night (by 18-hundreths of a second) over the South Korea guy, I couldn’t help but wonder if that would have qualified as a severe “a$$ kicking” or “beat down” if he had been from uga.
