New LB coach Belin gets 1-year, $190,000 contract
Newly hired Georgia linebackers coach Warren Belin will get a one-year contract at a salary of $190,000, UGA said this morning.
Belin, a 20-year coaching veteran who coached linebackers at Vanderbilt the past eight years, was hired by Georgia on Friday.
He essentially replaces John Jancek, fired on Dec. 2, on the staff. Jancek’s base salary last year was $163,000.
Belin was the final hire to replace the three defensive coaches fired in December. Todd Grantham got a three-year, $750,000-a-year contract when hired away from the Dallas Cowboys as defensive coordinator and Scott Lakatos a one-year, $180,000 contract when hired from Connecticut as defensive-backs coach.
Belin will coach either the inside or outside linebackers in the Bulldogs’ new 3-4 defense, but UGA hasn’t yet specified which group Belin will oversee. Grantham will coach the other linebackers group.

Obviously you don’t watch much ball. vandy is like sc. Gets awesome defensive play out of recruits nobody else goes after.

Lakatos has a long standing relationship with Grantham. Belin was picked my Grantham. Garner and how he fits in is the biggest question mark.
The biggest improvement from last season maybe Belin having special teams in place of Fabris.

Davis Avis, Unproven coach what are you smoking. Belin has been a coach for 20+ years and has done an amazing job with less talent at Vandy! and if you remember correctly the Vandy that beat us a couple years ago.

Why would I not believe we are going to be improved on D. We just got rid of what had to be the worst DC in the conference, and got 3 proven coaches. Yes, our youth at QB will tough at first, but Murray is big time player/winner (Meyer sure was upset he couldn’t land him) I think we’ll be fine there. Gray won’t sniff the field at the QB spot

J Dawg, you are right that Meyer wanted Murray. From what I have heard though, Mettenberger will ultimately be the starter because he has more raw talent. After winning back to back state championships, a lot of people in Tampa are starting to think that it might be more the system than Murray. The soph QB who took over for Murray for 5 games his senior year was a junior this past year and took them back to the title. Time will tell if Murray is legit, but my money is on the other kid.

Why does everyone think that it will take two years to turn the defense around? A couple of grad asst’s and Garner did it in a few weeks for the bowl game!!!!!! As for the recruiting and this and that – most of the players in the NFL were not even heard about until after they turned pro…Pollack was a three star prospect that was converted to D…what they did in high scholl is nothing but a vague indicator of what they will do in college – the recruiting services are just money making businesses that have to blow their own “expertise horn” in order to have any reason for even existing….they are irrelevent. The Dawgs will kick butt this coming year – talented, hungry and with new coaches and attitudes all around. Bank on it…..

The season has potential but time will tell. Richt is a very good coach
did not have a proven QB in 2009.
