MrSEC.com has done some numbers-crunching that quantifies this state’s status as a football recruiting hotbed.
The website counted 65 recruits from Georgia who signed with SEC schools last week, including the 14 Georgians among UGA’s 19 signees. Every SEC school except Mississippi State signed players from Georgia.
No other state came close in terms of the number of players signing with SEC schools. The next largest number was from the state of Florida: 46. Then 37 from Mississippi and 36 from Alabama.
In all, SEC schools signed 305 players from 23 different states, MrSEC calculated, with 21.3 percent of the league’s total signees coming from Georgia. UGA signed players from only three states: Georgia (14), Florida (4) and South Carolina (1).
Go here for much more data on the topic. Interesting stuff.

You idiots can state all the facts you want about Meyer not having this record % or that record %, but one thing you cant say is; he doesn’t own UGA. We don’t care what you think about Meyer, he is our coach and a great one. Only UGA fans want him to go. But at least we agree with one thing. WE are just as glad that Richt is your coach as you are. We dont want him to leave. Of course we thought there would never be another Ray Goff either. You fired the only coach we feared (after Dooley) and that was Jim Donnan.

76-Dawg, I for one wish it was played home and home. Where it’s played has no bearing in this stadium where the fans are 50-50. The plane ride from Athens, takes about the same time for your team as does the bus ride from Gainesville that it does for the Gators. Both teams spend the night in a hotel the night before so there is no difference. The only difference is for your fans. Its funny it didnt matter when Dooley was coach and you owned the Gators. And I was there for both games in the mid 90’s, the one in Gainesville where we won and the one in Athens where Spurrier “hung a half a hundred”.

Let’s go ahead and conceed that anybody who uses the term “drinking the Kool-aid” is just a parrot without the capacity to come up with an original thought, ok? Or you could tell somebody who “owns” somebody else. Yea, nobody ever uses that one.

Was this year a trend or an outlier? The overall premise of this article means little if this was a one year wonder. I know UGA signed a couple of Georgians late after two Florida commits went elsewhere at the last minute. Florida is certainly a more fertile football factory than Georgia but everyone in the nation seems to raid that state. California and Texas are two other powerhouse states. Pennsylvania and Ohio are probably at or close to Georgia in Div. 1 prospects. It makes sense the SEC is loaded up with Georgia players since we are in the middle of SEC country and host the SEC Championship each year.

So where are the nay sayers whose mantra is “UGA should get all the good recruits from the state of Georgia and close the borders”? 65 Georgia high school athletes signing with SEC schools? Can Georgia offer 65 scholarships? Time to get real, guys.

UGA has to at least get the “top” players and we did not.
The kids that Fl, AL, TN, Aub, and others signed are kids Richt recruited but just could not close the deal, on any of them.
I know, I know, now comes the argument “you can’t tell by the number of stars how good they really are”.
That being said, had Richt signed the kids that the other schools signed, we would not have signed the majority (not all) of the ones we did sign.
Richt should have cleaned up the recruiting in state this year, but did not.
Now I’m sure you are thinking like most Dawg fans, since we lost Willie it hurt our recruiting this year.
That is a load of crap!
Look at USC, FL, TN. They had huge changes in the coaching staff but managed to sign the players that Richt recruited but did not sign.
Richt is falling and falling hard!
Fire Richt and hire the Utah coach!

The other half were 3 star (less the one 2 star WR, who does have the body type to be a role player in the future) and were recruited by at least one or two of those same schools, if not all.

I am certainly glad that UF had the consensus #1 class, but that does not mean UGA didn’t have a fine class as well. There are many years when you might have a huge need for OL and for some reason only very few grade out to 5 stars. When that happens you might get every signee you went after which should be considered a success but on paper it might not be top 10. My point is if a team consistently signs top 20 talent then it is up to the coaches and conditioning coaches to get it out of them.

What??, Even though a life long (57 years) Gator fan, I attend all of the home (and jax) UGA games with my girlfriend. I go to the Dawg walk several times a year and what I notice most about your team is when they dont have their pads on, as Buck Belue says, ” they don’t look good getting off the bus”. I don’t think the problem is recruiting or CMR, I think it is your strength and conditioning coach. In Jax this year I saw the UF team getting off the buses and they looked like monsters, including their QB.
When Will Meyer Be Crowned King?
February 9th, 2010

Here’s the deal. You have to beat either New Mexico, Air Force, Auburn, or Texas A & M before you can be crowned King. Sorry, this is a no-wimp zone. Urban doesn’t get a ticket.
New Mexico? 0-2? Seriously? You’ve got to be kidding me. They have a football team there? 0-2 versus Auburn? Come on man.
#1 Recruiting Class Won't Save U.S.S. Meyer

That ship is sinking folks. If Meyer couldn’t win with Charlie Strong, Tim Tebow as a Senior, and 22 starters back in 2009, Urban SURE can’t win in 2010. The #1 recruiting class won’t help him asnymore than it’s helped every ESPN #1 recruiting class award winner. NONE won the National Championship the next year. They all think recruiting is the problem instead of coaching.
Call Charlie Weis. Ask him about his “recruiting” skillz. Puuuuleeeze. 6-6 every year.

Just for information. You know how these UGA folks always throw back that “we lead
the series 47-37-2” when we talk about the 17 and 3 dominance for the past twenty years.
Well I looked it up and that series record is correct, but here’s the catch. From 1904 to 1936 UGA lead the series 13-2-1. Since 1936 Florida leads the series 35-34-1 and the dominance is just beginning.

GaGator, I agree, but most rational UGA fans don’t talk overall record because something that happened 50 years ago really doesnt matter. For the record, I was born in 52 and we have a winning record since then. I for one respect their program and root for them except in Jax. It does irriatate me though when some of these fools want to disown Vince Dooley because he will be rooting for his son. If my son was the coach of FSU, I would have to root for FSU when they played UF because as the saying goes, blood is thicker than water.

ESPN Team Recruiting Rankings Proven LEAST Accurate
February 9th, 2010
9:59 am
If you take the last 5 years of ESPN team rankings, and create a top 25 based on that, 12 teams in 2009, who should have been there, were not. Thes teams all won the recruiting 5 year ESPN best recruiting team top 25 prize, but didn’t finish in the REAL top 25 final poll for 2009:
Auburn, Georgia, Ok, FSU, Notre Dame, Mich, Tenn, SC, NC, Texas A & M, UCLA and Cal.
ESPN is clueless when it comes to ranking recruiting classes.
ESPN does not know how to rank talent properly.

10-25-03 NEW MEXICO LOST 35-47 10-2 for the season(his 1st year at Utah!)
10-1-04 at New Mexico (Fri.) WON 28-7 12-0 for the season
In his first year there, Meyer was named the Mountain West Conference’s Coach of the Year with a 10–2 record, the best ever for a coach’s first season at Utah.[16] He also earned honors as The Sporting News National Coach of the Year, the first Utes coach to do so.
In 2004, Meyer led the undefeated Utes to a Bowl Championship Series bid, something that had not been done by a team from a non-automatically qualifying BCS conference since the BCS’ creation in 1998.[20] He remained at Utah long enough to coach the team to a Fiesta Bowl win over 5th rated Pittsburgh, capping off the Utes’ first perfect season (12–0) since 1930
