MrSEC.com has done some numbers-crunching that quantifies this state’s status as a football recruiting hotbed.
The website counted 65 recruits from Georgia who signed with SEC schools last week, including the 14 Georgians among UGA’s 19 signees. Every SEC school except Mississippi State signed players from Georgia.
No other state came close in terms of the number of players signing with SEC schools. The next largest number was from the state of Florida: 46. Then 37 from Mississippi and 36 from Alabama.
In all, SEC schools signed 305 players from 23 different states, MrSEC calculated, with 21.3 percent of the league’s total signees coming from Georgia. UGA signed players from only three states: Georgia (14), Florida (4) and South Carolina (1).
Go here for much more data on the topic. Interesting stuff.

like grantham said, if UGA signs everybody they want within a five hour radius of athens then nobody in the country could beat us. its time to build a wall around georgia and keep these kids in state and become the team we could be.

Drew, that is kind of what Jimmy Johnson did in S. Florida. They kept all of the best down there. Urban has had some inroads and is starting to break up the S. Florida-U deal. I agree with Grantham, there is no reason with the right coaches and keeping Georgia’s best that they couldnt regurlarly compete for NC’s.

The hard lesson Richt learned early was you have to be very careful recruiting in the state because of the educational system. You may sign a top flight talent but getting him eligible and keeping him in school are another matter. With average SAT scores around 1300 (thanks to Hope Scholarship), kids that struggle to qualify can’t be coddled like they were in the past. Its a delicate balance, win (averaging 10 a year doesn’t seem to be enough), stay out of the papers and graduate (rates have steadily increased under Richt). You have to give it to the man. He made the necessary changes albeit a year or maybe two too late but he had to fire a man who’s son is his Godson. He’ll win a NC. Its just a matter of time and timing.

Gator fans don’t like this blog because we tell them the truth.
-Urban Neyer 3-5 against .750 teams in his 1st 3 years.
-Tebow is an average qb and an average rb.
-Urban hasn’t beat a top 10 ranked team since 2008
-Urban doesn’t schedule more than 1 top 10 opponent per year
-Meyer schedules cream puffs like Florida Intl and runs up the stats to impress ESPN
-Urban Meyer doesn’t have heart issues or brain injuries
-Florida is on the decline: averaging 8 points less per game on offense, giving up 15% more on defense, lost 5 guys on offense, lost 6 guys on defense, 5 coaches quit since Dec.
-Mark Richt has done it in the SEC for 9 seasons, Meyer’s done it mainly with Utah and Bowling Green
-Mark Richt got to 5 National Champs with FSU, Meyer 1 as a assistant
-Mark Richt has coached 2 different Heisman trophy winners, Meyer 1
-Georgia has more guys in the NFL than Florida, Bama, LSU, or USC
-Meyer goes 5-3 in the SEC 40% of his years at Florida
-Meyer has never beat Auburn, New Mexico, Air Force, or Texas A & M
-Meyer has NEVER stuck it out at 1` single school and done it with his own recruits–he quits on a team voluntarily every 1-5 years over his 24 years he has quit 7 times
-Meyer lied about driving himself to the hospital–he later admitted he went in an ambulance when caught in his lie
Bottom line, this ain’t ESPN here boys, we don’t but the garbage.

I’ve been trying to point out all week….TN signed 3 of the top 50 players from Georgia. Eh? so? That’s probably less than normal. Vandy got that many. (and it didnt cost them an extra scholarship). What is all the talk of TN suddenly dominating this state????? Rogers? That’s the recruting test…….paleeeez…..straight up and he never even considers it. I”m not saying the Dooley staff will not be good recruiting, but you can’t possible try to say this year they proved anything. While forgetting that they lost thier top 2 commitments, and early enrollment trapped a couple more.
Top 50 players……….19 scholarships…………hmmm……and some went to bordering state schools…..gee..ya think?
Odd how the Tenersee fans arent bragging about how they signed 2 whole players from thier own state. Really Locking down those borders.

Tomorrow, can somebody explain to me how the Best Recruiting Class in the history of the NCAA, wasn’t actually the top class of this year?…..I’m just asking. I guess it’s a lot like the Best Team in the history of the NCAA not actually being the top team in it’s conference.

Check your facts—LSU ranked #17 in 2009, not a top 10 team in final polls.
Cincy was a Bowl game without a Head Coach, we’re talking about the regular season.
Gators have not beat a team who finished in the top 10 in the final polls in the regular season since 2008.
Meyer simply doesn’t schedule teams like that, he prefers NON-TOP 10 ranked easy-to-beat teams like Charleston Southern, Troy, and Florida Intenrational like he did in 2009.

Is Urban Meyer a Good Coach?
February 9th, 2010
12:29 am
Urban Meyer has an excellent winning record–against team below .500
But what about teams with a .750 winning percentage?
In Meyer’s 1st 3 years at Florida, he went 3 wins and 5 losses against good teams.
Against good teams, Meyer is a bad coach. Against bad teams, Meyer is a good coach.
Meyer--Mr. 5-3 in the SEC, 40% of the time
February 9th, 2010
12:34 am
Urban Meyer has gone 5-3 or worse 40% of his 5 seasons at Florida.
Mark Richt has gone 5-3 or worse 33% of his 9 seasons at Georgia.

If I were a recruit and I knew that I had to tools to one day go Pro, I would have UGA at the top of my list at a place to prepare myself for the opportunity. Why would I want to go run a gimmick offense like Fla or GT. Tebow has just shown during the Senior Bowl that although he is a great spread offense QB he is a terrible Pro Style QB.
When it is all said and done, I would take Staffords millions over Tebow’s Championships and Heisman.

ga gator……… gotta believe that you live in Georgia as your user name hints that you do. If so then you know all to well where the majority of the so called d1 prospects reside in the state of Georgia. According to the experts 90 out of a 100 live north of Macon. I would argue that but you can’t argue with North Georgia folk.

This is a little off topic but is a big deal for recruiting purposes in the state of Florida. The University of Florida will always be spotted 3 to 10 points against UGA as long as the game is played 60 to 70 miles from Gainesville and in the state of Florida. The Gators will always be able to recruit some of the best in the state of Florida, they don’t need help against UGA by having every game played in Jacksonville. It’s hard for UGA to convince recruits that UGA will beat Florida because of the last 20 years outcome. Some schools do great at home against certain schools and some do better away, like Auburn plays great in Athens and UGA plays great in Auburn. If Florida want play UGA in Athens then every other year should be played in Atlanta. My father was born and raised near Lake City Florida and there wasn’t a bigger Gator fan. I graduated UGA in 76 and love the Dawgs but will never support the city of Jacksonville. I would love to have gone to Gainesville to wear my RED AND BLACK and cheer my Dawgs like I have done in Atlanta many times against Georgia Tech where my twin brother graduated but that another topic all together.

patrich ……… forget it buddy, you are trying to explain commonsense to reptiles. You know lizzards, frogs, gators, snakes you know reptiles. Small brains. They can understand all to well what you’re trying to say, just to dense to admit you are right.
People no matter how you call it, it is called a mythical title, look in the dictionary for the meaning of the word mythical. If you need help finding it I will help. It starts with the letter M.To get a shot at this title you have to have 90% luck and 10% talent, that is unless you have the backing of the jerks at espn. Like let’s just say schools like LSU,Flordia, USC, Ohio State, Olkahoma, Notre Dame seem to have from these idiots. Ask how all those undefeated Penn State teams felt about being overlooked everytime they went undefeated in the 60s. Ask Utah, Bosie State, as a matter of fact why did’nt Cincinatti or TCU get a shot at the title. Crap they had a perfect regular season same as Texas and Alabama had. Luck plain and simple, but politics and $$$$$ played the biggest role. That’s probably over the heads of people like murry county mystic. You know, the idiots who think like they are entitled.

I don’t care for those WebPages. You try to read it and it cuts it off on the right hand side.
You are left with about every 10th and 11th word missing.
Here is my observation of the facts about recruiting.

UGA has squandered more top-recruits on offense than any team in the SEC.
Messenger a.k.a BuLLdawg

Sorry MESSENGER but “UGA has squandered more top-recruits on offense than any team in the SEC.” is your opinion and not a FACT. Of course, you do like to make up your own facts in order to support your disdain for CMR
So who do you suggest to be the Head Coach since CMR can do no right in your eyes?
You never answer this because all you like to do is complain about what, in your OPINION, is wrong, and NEVER give any suggestions on how to make the program better. You like to take the easy and weak stance of complaining without giving any substantive response on how the program can become better from your viewpoint. Sad……I know your type all too well.
