MrSEC.com has done some numbers-crunching that quantifies this state’s status as a football recruiting hotbed.
The website counted 65 recruits from Georgia who signed with SEC schools last week, including the 14 Georgians among UGA’s 19 signees. Every SEC school except Mississippi State signed players from Georgia.
No other state came close in terms of the number of players signing with SEC schools. The next largest number was from the state of Florida: 46. Then 37 from Mississippi and 36 from Alabama.
In all, SEC schools signed 305 players from 23 different states, MrSEC calculated, with 21.3 percent of the league’s total signees coming from Georgia. UGA signed players from only three states: Georgia (14), Florida (4) and South Carolina (1).
Go here for much more data on the topic. Interesting stuff.

Florida has twice the population of Georgia, Yet we produce the best talent in the country!!!ALWAYS HAVE!
The Gaytors should always remember the Arkansas Game….. A perfect example of the level OF cheating that allowed your success, Not to mention the BCS Joke of a fair system. I want Urban to stay at the Gaytors so he can be exposed for the Scumbag Loser that he is…..that is if Games are officiated fairly, and ESPN and CBS will get their lips off his tiny tootsie roll.
UGA HAS MORE PLAYERS IN PROS, THREE SUPER BOWL MVP’S, AND OH YEA WE STILL HAVE 46-39 EDGE. WE HAVE BEEN KICKIN YOUR NO TRADITION UNIVERSITY’S ASS……..IN EVERY SPORT…….. FOR A VERY LONG TIME…..AND JUST LOOK AT YOUR STUDS FROM OUR STATE….PLEASE DON’T CHEAT ANYMORE (BRANDON SPIKES ETC..) AND STAY AWAY FROM OUR GREAT STATE…..YOU NO CLASS S.O.B.s……….
Meyer Doesn't Like to Play Top 10 Teams

Meyer’s strategy is scheduling. He tries to never schedule against a great team. Or he plays in a conference like Bowl Green or Utah does where the competition is vastly inferior to the SEC.
Then he figures he’ll win almost all of the games.
He wins a lot—against non-top 10 teams.

Fla was not lucky USC lost? Really? Had USC won the last game where USC was favored by 30 points would Fla have been invited???? No.
Hardly impressive to have to back into a NC because of someone elses misstep.

Richt’s first 4 years in the SEC, he was 42-10 (80.8%) and 24-8 in the SEC (75%).
after Meyer, Miles and Saban arrived, he is 48-17 (73.8%) and 26-14 ( 65%) in the SEC-
I hope you notice the decline, meanwhile, Meyer is 57-10 (85%) 32-9 (78%) in the SEC.
I think I’ll take Florida’s record. Patrick try looking at facts.

even with USC losing and Fla backing into the NC. UGA and Fla have identical 90 wins in 9 years and Identical SEC titles and UGA has been ranked more time top ten. UGA also has more bowl wins and has won 8 or more games 13 years in a row (better than ANY team)
Yeah Richt really does suk

Gator Nation was pretty ticked when Meyer lost out on Aaron Murray, a Florida guy. Meyer went after him hard but he got away to Georgia. I don’t think he wanted to QB in the spread, not too NFL friendly. Also lost out on other guys in the state of Florida like Georgia’s TE–who I think broke the Natl Championship trophy, and lost out on top speedster from state of Florida Branden Smith. Don’t know how or why Meyer lost all 3 of those big-time guys–hopefully the new coaches will start winning some of these battles. Maybe Florida will move away from the spread offense, maybe go Pro-Style and get some better QB’s.

patrick, come on down to our football complex and take a look at our most recent NC trophies. That’s ok, we’ll let you admire them. You won’t see anything about USC on them. That’s the way the cookie crumbles in sports son. If you want to call it “luck” then fine, but you have to put yourself in position of good fortune, which obviously Richt has not. I can’t believe I’m actually having a “discussion” about which coach is better!! And by the way, would you consider Meyer’s 2004 undefeated Utah team “unlucky” because they didn’t win the NC??? Just trying to understand your delusional dawg logic.

Richt has put them in a position to be in the SEC title hunt every year. How many other programs in the SEC can say that? That’s the problem with a lot of UGA fans (and you), you only see what UGA hasn’t done. You don’t see what they HAVE done.
All Richt needs is one lucky year.
Its interesting to note that UF and LSU have won national titles with the same record UGA had when it won its two SEC titles. Its not that UGA is not as good of a program as either of the two, they have just been luckier than UGA. And that’s the truth.

You remind me of a player who makes a play and then high fives and dances around but the scoreboard shows he’s down 40-10. Like the old cheer says “Look at the scoreboard , see who’s behind!”
Urban Meyer 3-5 Against Good Teams
February 8th, 2010
7:34 pm
In his 1st 3 years at Florida, Meyer tried really hard not to schedule any good teams.
But when he played a team with at least a .750 winning record, his record was 3 wins and 5 losses.
So, Meyer is great coach against horrible teams, and a bad coach against great teams.

Meyer’s 1st 5 years
Try this out and learn something
In 2001, Meyer took his first head coaching job at Bowling Green.[5] In his first season there, he engineered one of the greatest turnarounds in the NCAA football history, going 8–3 and capping off the season with a 56–21 victory over Bowling Green’s rival, the University of Toledo Rockets.[14] He also earned Mid-American Conference coach of the year honors. The next year, Bowling Green finished with a 9–3 record.[14] After a 17–6 overall record, Meyer left for the University of Utah.[15]
After two seasons at Bowling Green, he took the job at Utah in 2003.[16] In his first year there, Meyer was named the Mountain West Conference’s Coach of the Year with a 10–2 record, the best ever for a coach’s first season at Utah.[16] He also earned honors as The Sporting News National Coach of the Year, the first Utes coach to do soIn 2004, Meyer led the undefeated Utes to a Bowl Championship Series bid, something that had not been done by a team from a non-automatically qualifying BCS conference since the BCS’ creation in 1998.[20] He remained at Utah long enough to coach the team to a Fiesta Bowl win over Pittsburgh,[5] capping off the Utes’ first perfect season (12–0) since 1930.[21]

I hope Richt and company have a chip on their shoulder this year.
Take a look around the SEC and see what is going on. Flordia and Alabama have emerged as the powers of the SEC. Unfortunately , we look like a distant 3rd, 4th or 5th – really just struggling to keep pace with LSU, TN and perhaps Auburn. Consider this: Fla loses its DC and the head coach takes an “indefinite leave”. Translation on signing day: the consensus number one recruting class with mutiple 5 star players from across the country. UGA, well, we lose our DC and then go on to lose 4 recruits and have the most disappointing class in years.
I’m a dog fan all the way. But for the first time, I am seeing disparity in the recuting classes. Let’s hope this is just a proverbial bump in the road, but it hurts when you can’t even hold on to players in your own back yard…
Meyer with his Own Recruits?
February 8th, 2010
7:41 pm
Meyer has never beat a top 10 ranked team with his own recruits.
So 2010, if he doesn’t quit again, will be the 1st test to see if he’s any good with his own players.
It will be interesting to see how he holds up without Charlie Strong, Tebow, or Percy Harvin.
He’ll also have the #1 recruiting class, so if he has a bad year in 2010, it will all be his coaching.

The National Championship is a myth.
It doesn’t exist.
There is the BCS Championship, which is not the same thing.
Until there is a playoff system, Richt and the Georgia fans (all fans) shouldn’t worry about winning this mythical and meaningless National Championship.
Our goal every year should be to get to the SEC Championship game, and once we get there, hopefully win it.
Those are the trophies that mean something.
I still don’t understand why we are obsessed with the BCS national title?
It is not a real title.
When Auburn (2004) can go 14 -0 as an SEC team and not have a chance to play in the BCS title game, why should any team be worried about winning it all.
What are they winning? – the love of Sportswriters?
Until we have a playoff – all the BCS is about is luck and when you lost last.

If UGA wins the BCS NC next year (not gonna happen) are you going to be calling it mythical, without meaning and claiming it doesnt exist??? I think not!! College football is SO exciting because EVERY game is so huge and every game counts. It’s not just the team that gets “hot” at the end of the season. The BCS IS flawed, but I can’t think of too many times that the BEST team didn’t win it, including Alabama this year. And believe me, it pains me to say that, but then again, I’m living in the REAL world.

I said it was mythical when UGA won it in 1980. Without a playoff it is just an opinion poll and nothing more. It takes VOTES to get into a BCSNC not wins.
12-1 winning SEC in 2002 didnt get in
12-1 winning SEC in 2006/8 and did get in.

I’m pretty sure Meyer’s image around the Nation when it comes to program loyalty is right there with Saban. Meyer usually stay 2 or 3 years. He was at Bowling Green 2 years, and 3 years at Utah. So, this being his 6th year at Florida, everybody’s probably thinking he’s close to getting that itch to move on. He’s kind of been a turnaround guy. Starts fast, runs hard, and then moves on pretty fast to the next program. Not as bad as Petrino, but maybe more like Saban’s career arc. He seems tired, exhausted, and mentally and emotionally and physically drained. Don’t really know what’s gonna happen here.
