More SEC signees from Georgia than any other state, by far

MrSEC.com has done some numbers-crunching that quantifies this state’s status as a football recruiting hotbed.

The website counted 65 recruits from Georgia who signed with SEC schools last week, including the 14 Georgians among UGA’s 19 signees. Every SEC school except Mississippi State signed players from Georgia.

No other state came close in terms of the number of players signing with SEC schools.  The next largest number was from the state of Florida: 46.  Then 37 from Mississippi and 36 from Alabama.

In all, SEC schools signed  305 players from 23 different states, MrSEC calculated, with 21.3 percent of the league’s total signees coming from Georgia. UGA signed players from only three states: Georgia (14), Florida (4) and South Carolina (1).

Go here for much more data on the topic. Interesting stuff.

Not saying Georgia put more players in the top tier schools than Florida, but pretty sure Georgia put some kids in the ACC also.

As far as Georgia fans talking a lot of smack. Maybe because it’s a Georgia vent site. Don’t think that it is a Tennessee. or an Alabama vent. It sure as heck isn’t a Florida vent. You don’t like what we say, then get the he!! out.

Olemiss83…………. who knows maybe you’re right. Don’t think so, but who knows.

BBro……….. so it takes 5 players from Georgia to equal 1 Flordia player. If that’s true then when the South Georgia stars laid waste to the North Flordia stars, Georgia must have had 55 players on the field. Probably felt that way to the Flordia kids huh.

All this means is that Georgia is centrally located and easy to get to and from. It’s the reason Atlanta became the most influential city in the region. Georgia has a large population but Florida has more people and more talent. But it shares its talent with non-SEC schools Miami and Florida State plus the up and coming directional schools and is raided from all across the nation. The formula for Georgia to win is to get the elite from this state (which it hasn’t done consistently) and cherry pick guys like Stafford, Massaquoi, A.J. Green from other parts of the country. This year’s class missed out on several big time Georgia guys, especially on offense and out out of state talent lacked the big-time get signees. The schedule is favorable but Richt can’t afford another Independence-type bowl berth.

PLUS, the players from the state know Chan Gailey and he had better success recruiting elsewhere.

Uhm, UT96, I’m ignoring you because you screwed up my streak of consecutive posts. Because I’m really mad and childish, I’ll say the following: Eric Berry only went to UT because Nance’s Dad bought him a new pick-up truck (that he drives without a valid liscense) and the last time Berry went over the middle against UGA J. Hamilton knocked him cold. He fumbled, we recovered for a Touch and went on to win the National Championship.

Ok, if Georgia got their pick of say 25, that means 40+ go elsewhere in the SEC. Richt catch’s Hell every year because of this. WE CAN’T SIGN THEM ALL. SOME DON’T CARE FOR GEORGIA. Yes, i do wish we did better in state, but we get our share.

Tim, how many Georgia kids signed D-1 scholarships and how many from Florida signed D-1 scholarships. That would be an interesting comparison. The perception is that Georgia has better coached players and Florida more speed. It would be really interesting to see the breakdown by position also.

I’m a little surprised that Alabama isn’t in the top ten states for producing football talent. There’s some good HS football in Alabama. Must be a population thing, but certainly AL would have to rank above SC and LA? Just a thought…

Bama got two 4 star players out of Georgia, one of which UGA recruited. I don’t see Bama as a real threat in Georgia, but TN with DD are going to be a factor in N. GA and of course FSU and Auburn have always done well in South GA.

You Dawgies really are something. You got your clocks cleaned in recruiting, lost your best recruit to a UT in the midst of a coaching carousel, watch as your most hated rival (Florida) banks the top class in the country… and conclude that somehow the GATORS are on the decline.

Reeeaally.

Bama will be an overwhelming favorite in the West this year and most probablu in the SECCG and Florida will be an overwhelming favorite in the East with South Carolina a somewhat distant second. Uga will probably be third with Tenn close behind. Early predictions (reg season only) Bama 11-1, UF 10-2, South Carolina 8-4, UGA 7-5, Tenn 6-6…

ckgator, Bama will be overwheming favorite to clean your clock again and if you think Freshman are going to make the Gators great in 2010, you are the one that is really something. You know bettter than that, the Gators will be down at least for a year or so. You don’t lose all they lost and keep on ticking. Ain’t going to happen. They might beat UGA but I see the Gators losing 3 to 4 games in 2010.

UGA will be favored in all but 2 games, Fla & Ark. We will win both. Then beat Bama in the SEC Champ.

Florida goes 5-3 in the SEC 40% of Meyer’s seasons.

Florida will lose 4 games to:
Bama, LSU, Georgia–FSU–or–South Carolina, and Tenn—or—Miss St.

Is Urban Meyer a Good Coach?

February 8th, 2010
4:59 pm

Meyer can’t use the excuse, “I don’t have any players”, Meyer finished #1 in recruiting.

Problem is also an inexperienced QB, on top of losing 5 starters of offense, 6 on defense, 5 jrs who quit for the NFL, and 5 coaches who quit.

So if they don’t win the Natl Champ in 2010, with the best players, it’s Meyer’s coaching.

Here’s the Gators schedule for 2010:
Miami of Ohio
USF
Tenn (at Tenn)
Kent
Bama (at Bama)
LSU
Miss St.
Georgia
Vanderbilt
South Carolina
Appalachian St.
Florida St. (at FSU)

Predictions?
5 SEC Losses to Bama, LSU, Georgia, South Carolina, Tenn or Miss St.

Loss to FSU

Upset Loss to Appalachian St. (played in National Champ in Division last year)

6-6 realistically in 2010, 7-5 with some luck, 8-4 with a lot of luck

Note:
Meyer goes 5-3 in the SEC 40% of his seasons

protest – To be fair to the Dawgies they came into the 08 game ranked #8 and got totally embarrassed 49-10. Also in 2002 they came in as a huge favorite, undefeated, and ranked #4 but they were beaten 20-13 which ended up costing them a shot at the National Title. Oh yeah the Dawgs were 0-13 on 3rd down conversions that game.

Grantham is an idiot. We have dominated this state in recruiting over the past 7-8 years and we have not won a national championship nor played for one due to coaching. We have the same head coach currently and based on everything I have read he just signed by far his weakest recruiting class ever. What is there to make me feel we are a prospering program rather than a stagnant or declining one??

Mark (not Richt). Because freshman rarely contribute in a major way. If you are talking about 2011 and 2012 you might have a point. What points to a good 2010 is 17 out of 24 starters return and Willie and company do not return. Enough said, how much do you want to bet right now, UGA wins more than 8 games?
