More SEC signees from Georgia than any other state, by far

MrSEC.com has done some numbers-crunching that quantifies this state’s status as a football recruiting hotbed.

The website counted 65 recruits from Georgia who signed with SEC schools last week, including the 14 Georgians among UGA’s 19 signees. Every SEC school except Mississippi State signed players from Georgia.

No other state came close in terms of the number of players signing with SEC schools.  The next largest number was from the state of Florida: 46.  Then 37 from Mississippi and 36 from Alabama.

In all, SEC schools signed  305 players from 23 different states, MrSEC calculated, with 21.3 percent of the league’s total signees coming from Georgia. UGA signed players from only three states: Georgia (14), Florida (4) and South Carolina (1).

Go here for much more data on the topic. Interesting stuff.

Georgia should be mentioned in the same breath as Florida, Texas and California when it comes to football recruits.

It was good to hear our new DC was already wise to this, as he stated in his first interveiw. Bottom line is, if we recruit our state best, UGA will be contending for championships every year. I think we’re on the backside of the storm and it starts getting better NOW.

chipperdawg: For anyone who hasn’t seen it, here’s the Todd Grantham quote you referenced:
“I have always believed — and I believe to this day – that if we took the best players in the state of Georgia and within a five-hour radius of our school, if they come to the University of Georgia, then we can win the SEC championship and compete for a national title. And I think you can be better than Florida, you can be better than Texas, and you can be better than Southern Cal – if those players came to the University of Georgia.”

Ga is best state for recruiting, SEC best conference, Grantham was right. After going 14-0 in 2010, Georgia will get all the recruits they want.

Georgia #1 again, good news.

Georgia #1 Ranked SEC Recruiting Since 2002

February 8th, 2010
2:30 pm

No wonder we’ve won so many recruiting battles with the other SEC teams. Congrats to Coach Richt for finishing #1 in SEC for recuriting since 2002.

UGA had the longest top 10 recruiting streak in the nation unitl this season. Not bad.

Florida in Decline

February 8th, 2010
2:33 pm

Florida has lost 5 coaches since Dec.

Florida hasn’t beat a top 10 team during the sseason since 2008.

Florida’s offense lost 8 points a game in scoring in 2009.

Florida’s defense gave up 15% more points in 2009.

Florida lost 5 players on offense, 6 on defense.

1st time Florida not top 10 ranked in pre-season poll on ESPN in 6 years.

Obv the state of FLA has other big-time programs (Miami, Fla St., USF) that aren’t in the SEC and that will skew their numbers. Don’t interpret this for a second to think GA has more star recruits than FLA (as some seem to be alluding to). This is not Texas where they can stay in-state and nab a top 5 class every year.

To answer the last post, Da’Rick got his truck from Mr. Nance. Since he lives with them, no violations occurred. (Though i also heard Da’Rick does NOT have a driver’s license, so not sure where he intends to drive it)

Urban Meyer Losses to New Mexico & Air Force

February 8th, 2010
2:53 pm

Shocking how overpaid Urban Meyer is. Not only has he lost to New Mexico repeatedly, he’s never beat them. Never beat Air Force.

Both times he played Auburn, Meyer has lost.

You simply can’t go 0-2 and have a 0 winning % in the SEC against an SEC rival like Aubrun.

Perhaps in 2010, for the 1st time in 2 years, Meyer can FINALLY beat a top 10 ranked team during the season.

He only plays 1–#1 ranked Bama.

Oh well, how’s 2011 looking?

UGA folks just can’t get their minds off us. We gators have owned you so long you can’t see straight. Just get used to it. Honestly, I think you guys are gonna have all you can handle playing Georgia Tech these next few years. You do nothing but belittle them on their blogs– seems like they have the coaches and players to beat you guys. Wouldn’t that suck to lose to UF and GT next year.

Thats funny, an Alabama fan talking about somebody getting a free car. You and everybody else knows that Bear “the bigot” Bryant bought most of his players throughout his career, and therefore bought most of those titles for you guys. My God, no one from Alabama should ever talk about anyone else’s program when it comes to NCAA violations, you guys practically wrote that book.

37 recruits from the state of Mississippi signed with SEC schools. With a population of only approximately 2.9 million residents compared to 9.7 million residents in GA, It is pretty safe to say that per-capita, the best talent is coming out of Mississippi.

I just cannot understand the boasting by UGA fans, especially concerning the FL Gators….
A lot of these so called outstanding recruits don’t seem to make much of an impact when they realize hard work and hard classes lie ahead……Gators will stomp UGA again this year….

WHY

February 8th, 2010

Why with ALL of the talent, HS super-stars, UGA has supposedly recruited over the years, have they never won but ONE football national championship? While a couple of the other SEC schools have trophy cases full of them!!!

Florida in Decline?

I’m with ya buddy. I don’t quite understand the New Mexico/Air Force/Top Ten thing? I do think that UF will slide some this year, but when you’re coming off a two-year record of 26-2, a little slide is to be expected. The good news for you guys is this: 12-2 would be a slide. Looking forward to seeing you guys in Jax this year…

the state of georgia produces prolific talent, but you have to take in account what high school programs do in this state.

roughly 2/3 of all high schools, regardless of classification, run some version of the stupid wing T offense, which produces good running backs but mediocre linemen and mediocre wideouts and qbs. very few true wideouts come from georgia. georgia produces very few pass blocking guards or tackles relative to the population of the state. we have to go out of state for QBs, WRs and OTs most of the time. just a face. we can get all the defensive players we need without ever leaving georgia. that is a stone cold fact.

Those days were the 90s when UT won its last NC and finished top 10 annually. We also had Garner recruiting for us as well. We still get a few great ones every now and then from Georgia(Eric Berry being one). However, when Richt came and started keeping more Georgia players, our downfall began.

Well, ga gator, I don’t see UF losing “4 or 5″ games next year as I’ve read on here. Maybe, but I seriously doubt it. I would think two losses, +/- one.

I say UGA goes 9-3, again +/- one. Alabama, 10-2…Auburn 8-4…LSU 9-3…UT 8-4. So, I guess my early, early predictions are EAST: UF, UGA/UT and WEST: AL, LSU, AU. Darkhouse teams are SC and MSU (maybe Arkansas).

GT, the reason GaTech didn’t recruit well in this state until 2007 is because Chan Gailey preferred to recruit elsewhere for some reason. CPJ is gonna get as many as he can from this state.

So the UGA coaches don’t have to work as hard (travel) to recruit? Seems like Richt and company should be embarrassed to have so much talent in their backyard yet fail to produce in comparison to recent BCS Champions UF, UA, and LSU.
