Oct. 9 continues to loom larger. That’s the date of the Georgia-Tennessee football game, which became the most compelling on UGA’s 2010 schedule the moment Derek Dooley was named the Vols’ coach. Now, there’s the added storyline of Da’Rick Rogers, the Calhoun High wide receiver who broke a 7-month commitment to Georgia to sign with Tennessee last week, potentially playing against the Dogs and encountering UGA safety Bacarri Rambo.
Rogers and Rambo have been going at it a bit on Facebook and Twitter since last week.
It started with a Facebook status update by Rambo, who wrote: “Bacarri Rambo thinks [it] is messed up how all of UGA high school commitments back out on us but I’m telling you now when I catch you on the field I’m going to knock fire from you.”
Rogers responded Saturday on Twitter: “Who is Bacarri Rambo?”
Then from Rambo on Twitter: “Tell Darick ‘pretty boy’ Rogers he doesn’t have to know me but I bet he will feel me!! Lol”
Then from Rogers: “don’t worry about me ha … that’s your choice … last time i checked a big hit =’s you getting knocked out.”
Rambo: “I compete against the best receiver in the nation everyday at practice. Why should i worry about that guy.”
OK, on to other stuff:
– Saturday night’s crowd at Stegeman Coliseum wasn’t huge (an announced 8,131), but it was spirited and it again showed that the Dogs can enjoy a significant home-court advantage in the old building. “Everyone said when I came we need a new place,” UGA coach Mark Fox said after the victory over Vandy. “Heck, no, we don’t need a new place! We just need great fans like we had tonight and the right effort.”
– The approximately $12 million in Stegeman renovations approved by UGA’s Athletic Board last week won’t affect the seating bowl, but will make a dramatic difference in the concourses and the exterior appearance.
– Interesting game Saturday. Georgia scored 23 points in the first half, the Bulldogs’ second fewest in any half this season, and 49 in the second half, their most in any half this season. The Dogs’ ball-handling, lousy in the first half, improved in the second.
– Of Georgia’s six SEC losses, four have been by four points or fewer.
– And the Georgia men’s tennis program continued its 21-year winning streak against Georgia Tech on Sunday. The Bulldogs beat the Yellow Jackets 5-2 at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Facility in Athens -– Georgia’s 24th consecutive victory over the Yellow Jackets dating back to 1989. Georgia is a mind-boggling 50-1 vs. Tech in men’s tennis since 1969.

Rambo has a better reason for his actions. Rogers simply broke his word. Rambo and the rest of the defense will have more incentive to shut Rogers down every time we play Tenn. We’ll also see what Roger’s threshold for pain is. Nothing wrong with hitting a guy hard on the field. Georgia will be able to knock his draft status down a few rounds by showing other teams how to shut him down.

It wont be long until all this Da’Rick talk is over. Bufords little DB’s owned Da’Rick in the Dome. All UT fans that are so hyped about him coming to Knoxville should go back and watch the AA state championship games from the past 2 years.

Da’Rick did not want to be embarrassed by Mark “Tan in a Can” Richt doing the Soulja Boy dance on the sidelines this year. Nor did he want to have to dance on the Vandy logo after squeaking out a 1 point lead against them. He knows UGA is the new cellar dwellar of the SEC East.

You folks can talk about Rambo all you want, but he showed A LOT of guts when he laid that lick to Auburn to preserve the UGA win. I have seen many players back off a big hit like that. “GO RAMBO.”

Da rick didn’t play well against Buford in the State Championship. No good stats. In fact, he fumbled in the state championship in his own 30 yard line.
Da rick’s not a big game performer.
Glad we got “Big Game” Murray, who WON 2 State Championships.

I never care where a player goes, as long as it’s where he wants to go. If I was Coach Richt, I’d put an end to this bickering, as it may have a negative effect on future recruits.

Too bad big mouth trash talk doesn’t win games. If it did Jawja would win the BCS year in and year out. It goes with having teany tiny little units!

Rambo – Please do the following against UT:
1)Knock Da’Ricks head off – problem is that he will be at a prep school of juco
2)Get a shot at Nash Nance – He will be in the student section or with the rest of the walk-ons
3)Most importantly, get Daddy Mike Nance – He will be leaning on the fence yelling at Coach Dooley that if he doesn’t put Nash in the game he’s an idiot and we will all be transferring

Recruit Nationally and you will not have to worry about what happened with Rogers. UGA recruits came from only 3 states. That is not good.
The Alabama/Mississippi ALL STAR game did not have one signee from this game out of 30 players. UGA had to get a 2 STAR wide receiver on the last day to close out recruiting by the name of Ronnie Outlaw. That is not good. He may turn out fine, but CMR got a player that will probably not qualify per the AJC and who knows if he will change his mind after he has honed his skills a a Junior College.
Why not go after Maudrecus Humphrey of Hoover High School in Birmingham. He is a 3 STAR that signed with ARKANSAS. His father was former BAMA player and former NFL Running back BOBBY HUMPHREY of the Denver Broncos. Good blood lines. He was not recruited by UGA per all reports. Below are excepts on Humphrey.
Humphrey, the 6-foot-2, 185-pound son of former Alabama and NFL standout running back Bobby Humphrey, was clocked at 4.34 in the 40-yard dash during a high school combine at the Arians Pro Football camp on Wednesday at SportsBlast.
Humphrey clocked times of 4.46 and 4.41 before setting a personal best in his third attempt. Former UAB standout Kevin Drake, who also played in the NFL, timed all three attempts.
MAUDRECUS HUMPHREY
WR – FR – 6-3 –185 – Hoover, Ala. (Hoover HS)
Bobby Petrino’s Take: “Certainly one of the top programs in the country; he has been very well coached. He is also a tremendous track athlete. His mom was a very good track athlete, I think she holds some records at UAB. His dad was a very good football player at the University of Alabama. We are very excited to have Maudrecus, he is a guy who can really run after the catch. He runs excellent routes, and he has Colby Hamilton type hands. He can extend his hand away from his body catch balls, elevate and catch balls. He is only going to get stronger and faster. He hasn’t spent a lot of time in the weight room because basically when football is over he is running track. He has been running track his whole life. I think his goal at the high jump is 6’10” and it certainly feels like he is going to get that.”
Here is a breakdown of SEC schools that signed players from this game. 10 SEC schools signed players from this game……………………….but no UGA. Have to wonder if they need someone else in charge of recruiting or a new head coach.
Thirty players from Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic sign with SEC schools
