Signing Day 2010: UGA Recruiting Bios

Last updated: 4:21 p.m.

Demetre Baker

Ht., Wt.: 6-0, 200

Position: Linebacker

Hometown: Orange Park, Fla.

High School: Orange Park

Highlights: Was a four-star prospect by Rivals.com and was ranked as the 23rd best outside linebacker in the country.

How he’ll fit in: Should be an outside linebacker in defensive coordinator Todd Grantham’s 3-4 defense. He has the speed to be a rush end and should be able to drop back in coverage when necessary. He is still a bit new to the linebacker position, so most do not think he has hit his potential yet.

Brent Benedict

Ht., Wt.: 6-5, 273

Position: Offensive tackle

Hometown: Jacksonville

High School: Bolles School

Highlights: Was considered one of the top 15 players in Florida and the No. 10 offensive lineman in the country by Scout.com.

How he’ll fit in: Benedict, despite coming off an injury, may be as athletic as any offensive line prospect in the country. With Georgia’s tremendous depth on the line, he’ll have to beat out some veterans to earn playing time in his first year on campus. That’s not an unrealistic possibility though. The two-deep line, with exception of Vince Vance, all return, but the play of the line has been substandard at times.

Michael Bennett

Ht., Wt.: 6-3, 186

Position: Wide receiver

Hometown: Alpharetta

High school: Alpharetta

Highlights: Bennett rushed for almost 700 yards and accumulated almost 1,100 all-purpose yards as a senior and was an honorable mention all-state receiver.

How he’ll fit in: Bennett has nice hands and good control of his body as he goes up for the ball. Though not quite as tall as Kris Durham, his game likely will resemble the pre-injury play of Durham. Because he does not have blazing speed, he’ll likely benefit from single coverage, often against a team’s second- or third-best cornerback. His ball skills and toughness should give him a chance to excel in that role.

Brandon Burrows

Ht., Wt.: 6-3, 240

Position: Defensive end

Hometown: Marietta

High school: Walton

Highlights: During his junior year, Burrows had 10 sacks and forced six hurries.

How he’ll fit in: Coming off an injury that kept him off the field during his senior year at Walton, Burrows likely is headed for a redshirt year where he can continue to rehab, add some bulk and be ready to contribute in 2011.

Marc Deas

Ht., Wt.: 6-1, 185

Position: Safety

Hometown: Kissimmee, Fla.

High School: Osceola

Highlights: Deas is a Florida AAAAA all-state player.

How he’ll fit in: Deas played quarterback and linebacker in high school, so he’ll be learning a new position. He’ll be solid against the run from his first practice but will have to learn coverage techniques.

Jalen Fields

Ht., Wt.: 6-5, 250

Position: Defensive end

Hometown: Dalton

High school: Dalton

Highlights: Fields is a Rivals.com top 250 players in the nation, and the No. 18 outside linebacker.

How he’ll fit in: Fields is big and relatively fast, but where he’ll end up playing is a question. Initially it was thought coaches might redshirt Fields and add some weight to him and move him inside. In the new 3-4 defense, Fields might not grow into the single nose tackle. Either way, he’s seen as a raw talent who likely will spend a year developing before finding the field.

Kenarious Gates

Ht., Wt.: 6-5, 300

Position: Offensive tackle

Hometown: Grantville

High school: Greenville High School

Highlights: Gates was a three-star player according to Scout.com and the 90th best offensive tackle in the country. He was a Kentucky commitment until Tuesday afternoon.

How he’ll fit it: Gates is quick on his feet for such a big man, but is still learning to play. That could be a good thing. He is considered a player with a bigger upside than his recruit ranking would indicate.

Jakar Hamilton

Ht., Wt.: 6-2, 196

Position: Safety

Hometown: Edgefield, S.C.

School: Georgia Military College

Highlights: Hamilton is a Rivals.com four-star prospect, who has been timed at 4.4 in the 40-yard dash.

How he’ll fit in: Hamilton might be as game-ready as anyone in this class. As a junior-college transfer, Hamilton has more experience than anyone else in the class, and the safety position is one in which a hard-hitter with good instincts can step right in. With Reshad Jones entering the NFL draft, Georgia needs toughness at the position.

Kolton Houston

Ht., Wt.: 6-5, 270

Position: Offensive lineman

Hometown: Buford

High school: Buford

Highlights: Won three state championships with the Buford Wolves. He was  the No. 6 offensive guard in the nation according to Scout.com

How he’ll fit in: Houston needs to work on his blocking techniques, but his tenacity, strength and footwork position him as one who might contribute early. Houston figures to be a guard, but can play any of the five positions. He comes from Buford, one of the state’s most fertile programs for collegiate players.

Ken Malcome

Ht., Wt.: 6-0, 212

Position: Running back

Hometown: Decatur

High school: Southwest DeKalb

Highlights: Malcome, a four-star prospect, ran the 100 and 200 meters in track.

How he’ll fit in: With a stockpile of tailbacks returning, Malcome isn’t likely to earn playing time as a freshman. Where he ultimately fits in might be one of the more interesting stories of this class. While Malcome doesn’t have tremendous speed, his downhill running style and field vision made him a star in high school. He could play on special teams and might also convert to fullback.

Hutson Mason

Ht., Wt.: 6-3, 190

Position: Quarterback

Hometown: Marietta

High school: Lassiter

Highlights: His senior year was one long highlight reel as Mason set state records in passing yards (4,522) and touchdowns (54).

How he’ll fit in: Mason figures to redshirt in the fall unless he can elevate himself to at least No. 2 on the depth chart. While he has two (perhaps three) quarterbacks ahead of him, none have played meaningful minutes, and the leading candidates to start at quarterback are two redshirt freshmen.

Dexter Morant

Ht., Wt.: 6-7, 240

Position: Defensive end

Hometown: Manning, S.C.

High school: Manning

Highlights: The lanky defensive end was offered scholarships by Florida, Tennessee, Clemson and South Carolina.

How he’ll fit in: If he shows he can be a pass rusher at the end position, Morant could bulk up a little and be a candidate to be on the two-deep depth chart. He needs to get stronger but his height and long reach could bat down many a pass in the near future.

Alec Ogletree

Ht., Wt.: 6-3, 215

Hometown: Newnan

High school: Newnan

Position: Defensive back

Highlights: Considered by some to be the No. 1 prospect in Georgia and the No. 3 safety in America.

How he’ll fit in: He was atop Georgia’s list of “must gets”for some time because of his size, strength and speed. He might look more like the hybrid hard-hitting Thomas Davis than Reshad Jones by the time he has finished at Georgia, and that would be just fine by Georgia. In the new 3-4 defense, Ogletree might get a look at outside linebacker, where his speed would really stand out.

Alexander Ogletree

Ht., Wt.: 5-10, 205

Position: Linebacker

Hometown: Newnan

High school: Newnan

Highlights: Zander, at times, was the best defensive player on his team, and that includes his brother Alec, a much more sought-after prospect.

How he’ll fit in: In the best case scenario, he emulates the play of Rennie Curran, who also was told he wasn’t big enough to play linebacker in the SEC. Don’t rule out that Zander might contribute this year, either on special teams or as a reserve in the new 3-4 defense.

Lonnie Outlaw

Ht., Wt.: 6-5, 180

Position: Wide receiver

Hometown: Rochelle

High school: Wilcox County

Highlights: Outlaw helped lead Wilcox County to the 2009 Georgia Class A State Title Game.
He caught 41 passes for 829 yards and six touchdowns in 2009, and scored 10 touchdowns on 22 catches for 417 yards receiving as a junior.

How he’ll fit in: Outlaw likely will go to Georgia Military College first because he wasn’t taking enough college-prep courses, and then he probably needs to add some muscle to his frame before arriving in Athens.

Derek Owens

Ht., Wt.: 5-9, 180

Position: Cornerback

Hometown: Jacksonville

High school: Andrew Jackson

Highlights: Owens played receiver and defensive back and was considered one the state’s better two-way players.

How he’ll fit in: The Dogs like his size as a cornerback, but Owens lacks lock-down corner speed and still needs work jamming receivers off the line. That doesn’t bode well for him seeing the field soon. He might be a candidate to add some muscle and move to safety in 2011.

Garrison Smith

Ht., Wt.: 6-3, 250

Position: Defensive tackle

Hometown: Atlanta

High school: Douglass

Highlights: Smith was the No. 6 defensive tackle in the country, according to Scout.com and Rivals.com, and chose Georgia over Florida.

How he’ll fit in: Smith should be an ideal middle cog in the new 3-4 defense. He’s a bit undersized, but his frame should be able to add 20 pounds before the 2010 season starts. With Jeff Owens, Geno Atkins and Kade Weston all moving on, the defensive tackle depth chart is waiting for some young players to fill it. Smith could work his way into the rotation early.

T.J. Stripling

Ht., Wt.: 6-6, 215

Hometown: Decatur

High school: Southwest DeKalb

Position: Defensive end

Highlights: He was considered the No. 4 player in Georgia by Rivals.com, and the No. 4 weakside defensive end in the country.

How he’ll fit in: Stripling needs to add some bulk to his frame, which shouldn’t be a problem. He’s built a lot like fellow signee, Dexter Morant, but was rated even higher. As Georgia looks for some pass-rushing ends, Stripling will get his chance immediately. If he performs and gets a little bigger, he likely will earn playing time this year. If not, he might be a redshirt candidate.

Mike Thornton

Ht. Wt.: 6-1, 280

Hometown: Stone Mountain

High school: Stephenson

Position: Defensive tackle

Highlights: Was one of the top three players in Georgia, according to the AJC and was a four-star prospect by both major recruiting services.

How he’ll fit in: Thornton rounds out Georgia’s defensive line class nicely. He’s strong, breaks down protection well and is good against the run. He should compete for playing time quickly.

Sorry, folks. Our mistake on Bailey. It was only a matter of inserting wrong info in wrong blog – no crazy Signing Day shenanigans going on. Apologies. It’s a little crazy around here.

We’re hearing from our Athens correspondent Bill Sanders that the Signing Day turnout from UGA fans isn’t up to usual par — at least by past standards. Ideas on what’s up with that? Do you expect a later, bigger crowd for Richt’s “State of the Dawgs” speech?

AJC Sports……you guys have killed that……We have 10-12 guys coming in Today that ANY program would have wanted, but we’ve had a year because of results on the field last year and a whole new Defensive staff…..I do wonder to myself ( well, not now) if a unmotivated
recruiting Cord. has anything to do with these 4 or 5 guys going elsewhere. also, Because of a good friend of mine in Snellville who’s son is being recruited out of Brookwood, They are really selling Georgia down the river when visiting….If I know Richt, I don’t think he uses those tactics.

AJC, maybe if the media didn’t treat these guys like the second coming with the hats on a table bs and the press conferences to announce a commitment then maybe they could return to being students first and athletes second. Then again maybe I miss the 50’s

I’d imagine that the smaller showing has something to do with a 7-5 season with a touch of the AJC dogging the class every chance it gets. Every article I’ve read about UGA on the AJC has a dig at how poor you guys think this recruiting class is. Even when all services had it as a top 10 you guys made it out like it wasn’t even top 25. Eventually, you guys are going to lose out on more and more customers with all the negative reporting.

I normally attend signing day in Athens, but chose not to this year. Seems we have lost key recruits the last few weeks and had a circus act when trying to hire a Defensive Coordinator. I’m not sure what Richts agenda is, or how he is implementing his plan, but from the outside looking in it appears that we are quickly headed in the wrong direction.

Almost like fleas jumping off a dead dog!

I sure hope Richt can right the ship and restore respect for thr UGA football program and the desire for these kids to play for Richt and UGA. When I read the reports and see in numerous articles where the kids state that the UGA coaches showed interest in them and then just stopped calling or showing interest leading them to sign with another school, WHAT are the coaches at UGA thinking?? What are they doing??

I am not defending AJC Sports here but, Rivals is also dissing this class and says there is a chance Thorton will go to Kentucky. If that happens according to Rivals, the meltdown will begin in Athens. Point is, their are other media outlets not impressed with our class.

Small crowd for Richt’s last recruiting class. This class started out great and than turned downhill. The program fell apart last year and the recruits and real fans know it. Nobody game to the last home games. Yes the stadium was full for Auburn but not with the regulars. Richt is in a lot more trouble than most realize. It’s what happens when you have poor work ethic. This class may in up the 6th or even seventh best in the SEC while Florida is blowing the top off. Georgia players going everywhere but to the dawgs. I love the dawgs but I don’t accept what’s happening in Athens.

Dawg Fan.

Stop living in the past. The old saying “What have you done for me lately” is true here. Well lately Richt has failed miserably when hiring the DC. Perception is reality and the the perception that is out there is that Richt could not get the DC’s that he wanted and had to”settle” for the man he got.

The kids are not signing that said they would. Why?? Take a look at ALL issues and you begin to see a pattern that UGA is headed downward fast.

Amazing some of the comments I have read the last 2 days. This class is going to be very good, maybe not great but nobody can tell me what these kids will do the next 4 years. We have had very good classes the last few ears. But next years is going to be HUGE–just wait. This program rises or falls with the new QB (Murray or Mett) and Todd Grantham’s defense. We have a ton of offensive talent and now we have the right D coach. If we have the right QB, the sky is the limit. Gimme a break, get a life. We haven’t lost because of lack players, we lost because of poor defensive and special teams coaching, too young OL and RBs, a backup QB and no defense. We haven’t lost because we didn’t get a TO wannabee.

I think all Dawg fans agree that a change had to be made at d-coordinator. Those guys that were fired had spent a lot of time over the last couple of years developing relationships with recruits, and it is only natural to lose a couple of them when a change like this takes place. It seems that Da’Rick’s situation is a bit different. He decided to follow his best friend to Tennessee. I can’t blame a kid for wanting the opportunity to play with his best friend on the next level even if it is at rocky top.

If Georgia has 3 defensive staff members fired, and a defensive guy decommits from Georgia to go to a better school, I still respect that guy.

If Georgia has 3 defensive staff members fired, and a defensive guy decommits Georgia and heads to a lesser school or MUCH lower winning % head coach, like Clemson (Robey, I don’t get that.

If an offensive guy decommits Georgia, when Georgia has no offensive staff or Head Coach turnover, then I don’t respect that guy, like Da’ Rick.

Personally, I’m really excited to get the Ogletree brothers to Athens and see what they can do. I watched Newnan in the playoffs, and both Alec and Zander were beasts. Zander reminded me of Rennie the way he seemed to be in on every tackle, and Alec was just amazing. Remember, tards, its not the stars, its the play on the field. See you in Sept.

Da’Rick will play but he won’t ever play a down with his buddy. That quarterback will never get on the field at Tennessee unless they are in really bad shape at the position, but Da’Rick enjoys the car the quarterback’s father bought him so it was only right for him to help the qb get into Tennessee.

Don’t shoot mcdaviddawg for speaking the truth – I attended the Kentucky game this year (18 year season ticket holder and alum) – I didn’t recognize anyone around me – the “regulars” had all but given up… Now, with that said, the regulars will be back in their seats come September and, if this team plays inspired, disciplined football (regardless of W-L record), the regulars will be there. If they play sloppy, undisciplined, turnover-prone football, the regulars will find another way to spend their Saturday. It’s just the way it is.

One of Richt’s biggest problems is that the expectations are through the roof for him.

He got FSU to 5 Natl Championships. He’s finished at #2 twice.

Georgia fans know what he CAN do, so they expect that kind of performance every year, when the reality is, you’re gonna get a great season with Richt 2 out 3 years, and Natl Championship type of year every 1out of 3 years. 1 year out of 3 will be subpar or should be designated as a rebuilding year (Richt should play Freshman in the rebuilding year).

So, realistically, here’s what we’ve come to get from Richt so far:
1 year–National Championship run
1 year- Top 10 finish
1 Year- Top 25 finish–rebuilding year

Repeat cycle.

What??? are you thinking? Better question – what are you blathering about? The Grantham hire is going to be a good one, and Richt should be given time to right the ship. I like the new moves in terms of the hires, and I could care less about one or two recruits that jump ship at the last second. What’s in the cupboard is what’s largely going to win our games next season, and I trust our staff to get the job done. Richt is a proven commodity who’s the senior coach in the SEC. That fact alone should speak for itself. Fair weather “what have you done for me lately” boosters that run good coaches out of town.

Bottom line is, those of you ripping Grantham today are going to feel foolish this fall. If you have any sense of decency you’ll come back to do a mea culpa and admit your mistake when the time comes. I seriously doubt any of you nimrods will, but it’d be nice to see.

Ace, I didn’t realize that there was a fan top 25, unless you just don’t know how to write a sentence correctly. So UGA fans are sore losers, and they didn’t finish in the top 25. And, you aren’t a sore loser when you or your team loses? What, do you shake the winning fans’ hands and congratulate them? Whatever, retard. In the SEC, all fans are sore losers, because we hate to lose. You sound like a Gay Tech fan, or worse, a Southern fan.

I like this class – plenty of ‘work’ horses and fewer ’show’ horses. I would have preferred the Dawgs sign the maximum 24, as a few spots always seem to open up through attrition. Considering the Dawgs already young roster, this class will be heavy on redshirts – other than Ogletree at safety and Smith on the D-line.

Bling and blang:
It happened at the “little house” or the more common name “joke by coke”..It was on November 28, when the Yellow Jackets had a chance for the first time in the modern era to win 2 in a row against the Dawgs….But ole wiley willie got into the 4-3 alignment on defense, and the runningbacks never stopped running, and the “blowout” the Jackets had been hoping for went up in smoke….ajc guys keep pulling for the jackets, let Paul keep blowing that purple smoke up your rear ends…..If Tech couldn’t do it this year, don’t know when it will happen again vs the dogs….no way to replace the guys that went to the nfl…and ajc guys pounce on uga when a “bought out, sold at auction” wide receiver decommitts, but no problem with Tech class ranking in the 40’s….You are so one sided in your reporting, and you don’t even try to hide it….If they even let you in the doors at UGA, somebody ought to be fired…..

What is it about Dawg fans that prevents them from seeing the obvious?? Why are they unwilling to ask the hard questions?

I notice that the ajc chimes in to correct their mistake, but cannot leave without taking a shot a UGA. Do not discount the poor coverage UGA has gotten in the ajc coverage of the season, coaching search and recruiting as creating a sense of decline. It is clear to me that these guys feel the only way to save their declining careers is to create discord at UGA. If these guys could actually write, they would do that instead of the mess I read in the sports page.

There are maybe 4 kids here that can play when fall comes. That is great news. Ogletree, Stripling and Hamilton and one or two others will play, either as solid back ups or starters. UGA is loaded with YOUNG talent now on campus and it will show up come fall. Geez.

Key positions are QB and we are set. Wide out and we are set w.o. that Calhoun kid, folks. With or w.o Rogers, UGA will ove the ball. He possibly would have played and I would have giiven him a look at running back. Wide out? Calhoun’s Rogers would sit gang. we have 6 or 8 men that will keep him on the bench for his Frosh season.
O line ………we are set. TEs? we are set. R backs ?? We are set.

D line ………we are set and got some nice add ons. DE’s?? We are set and have about 4 arriving.
L backers? We are set. CBs? We got one or two and we are therefore set. SAFETY?? THIS POSITION is the BIG IMPROVEMENT due to Ogeltree and Hamilton and Baccari and all. We are set.

FG kicker and punter? UGA is set.

As I stated in earlier post, there has to be a reason we are moving backwards when it comes to signing the top tallent. We lost key players in our own state that we should not have. When you read the quotes from the kids they all state that UGA coaches did not maintain communication with them. The kids moved own to sign with other schools.

The impact of a down recruiting year has a far greater impact than most understand. Especially when you have kids leaving early for the HFL. AJ is probably gone next year. We really needed to sign either Rogers OR Greene for that position. Both 5 star players.

And by the way, they are offensive players not defensive players that should not have been affected by the loss of WM. What was Bobo and Richt doing??

You talking about 2 kids.

Green has strong ties to FSU and DaRick was pretty much bought.
Not a whole lot you can do about that.

Have you forgotten Marlon Brown? I think he will make an impact this year.
Georgia has to much high school talent for UGA and Tech to get them all.
The biggest difference this year will be the defense. If they improve under TG then I expect the dawgs in the hunt for the SEC title. If they don’t then CMR has some soul searching to do.
The point is, we will find out if Willie was the problem or the scape goat this fall.
Additionally, all these kids want playing time, so they are headed to schools that they think give them the best opportunity to play early. That is not UGA on the offensive side of the ball.

I personally am not angry at either of these two kids. I just wisk DaRick would have let CMR know early, so that he culd have focused on other priorities.

An outside perspective

February 3rd, 2010
1:16 pm

I’m a Packer fan, relocated to Georgia, and have become an adopted Georgia Fan. Changing coaches will always impact recruiting negatively for some and positively for other recruits. It certainly hurt Georgia when they were without a defensive staff during the last phase of recruiting, but long term, I think people are overlooking something. Moving to the 3-4 defense could be huge. The Packers moved to it last year, and even though they have the youngest team in the NFL for the 3rd straight year, they had the #2 rated defense in the NFL, their first year as the 3-4 defense, and arguably, without the personnel they need.

Georgia’s future recruits should take notice that the 3-4 defense is prominent in the NFL, and is a very exciting defensive scheme to play in (just ask the boys down in Alabama). The 3-4 Defense will also give most of the SEC East an entirely different defense to play against, than the normal 4-3 stuff dominated in the East. With good coaching, recruits will be dying to play in that defense, and make themselves more appealing to the NFL. Should be fun to watch.

Outlaw in fact signed two letters of intent today. He signed with GMC first. He will attend Junior College for two years because he can’t get into Georgia this year. He then signed a LOI to UGA for when he is done at GMC.
Believe he will be a good one at 6′6″ and can run. Had an outstanding basketball game the other night when CMR and CBM were down there. They loved his athleticism and with some work at the JUCO he really could be a good one down the road! Huge get for this year and next ; )
Bigger story line is the fact that his cousin is the QB down at Wilcox County. Quite possibly the #1 QB recruit for next year.

Green is still saying he is undecided and will make a decision soon. I would love to have him but I just don’t buy for one second that he is not going to FSU. His uncle e.g green played for the noles and his brother already attends a smaller institution in the area. To many family ties down there in florida. I think he just wants to keep up the suspense to keep his name in the headlines and milk it as long as he can. I predict he will definently be a NOLE.

Up until now, I haven’t put much stock in the argument consistently made on these blogs that the AJC has an anti-UGA bias. Then today I come here to check out the recruiting news and all I see are articles about the weakness and disappointing nature of this year’s class, and the low fan turnout. Then I go to the Banana Herald and see a picture of Mark Richt addressing a packed Butts-Mehre, and ESPN to find Georgia’s “unusual” recruiting class still making the top ten in the nation. I understand that we haven’t done as well as we’d like, but considering the year we had and the change in coaches I’d say top ten is pretty damn good. What gives, guys?

Our class right now is perfectly fine. We’ve met our biggest needs which were on defense. It would be quite nice to add 1 more wide receiver, and the fact that Green isn’t signed yet is certainly encouraging. It was indicated that he was a Nole, but if he’s delayed putting his name on the bottom line it could mean a switch…

UGA will get about 19 kids signed up today. Why? Is it because they could only get 19?? Nope. THAT is what number they could recruit, given the fact that their overall team numbers are in line. Compare that to Auburn, where they can sign about 30. See? Auburn got quality and quantity because they needed any and all players. UGA needed D players and they went out and got them.

Fall is fast approaching and with UGA’s DEPTH and NEW NFL COACHES ( s ) they will be fine. NFL coaches is plural, meaning Travis Jones will be in Athens by next Tuesay. Oh, about Travis???? He is the New Orleans Saint’s LB coach but on Tuesday the NEW LB coach for UGA.

UGA is loaded and it will show up come fall.

Looks like on the Defensive side of the ball the Bulldogs got what they needed. Solid recruits. On offense more bulk up front with three massive linemen. Given the talent already on both sides of the ball, I really don’t see a down side to this.

Hate to lose any committment, especially a Georgia native, but Da’Rick would be 4th or 5th deep at BEST next year if he caught right on. And we are already high on the list of about 10 of the best WR in next years class, so I dont think its really a big deal.

BTW, whats this business about TN doing so well in Georgia? They signed 3 of the top 50. THREE. Not 20. So did Vandy for that matter. Every school in the south signes a few out of Georgia every year. TN pulled together a great class, considering how long the staff has been in place, but several schools outrecruited them in thier own state.

Like every thing else lately, the embarrassment continues for the dawgs. Now 21st in recruiting rankings and still sinking. Whats amazing is that the dawgs are 7th in the SEC !!!! Is CMR falling apart ?
UGA has always been a team that achieved with topnotch talent and mediocre coaching (the we don’t coach em up concept) but with mediocre talent the dawgs will just sink further.
REMEMBER THE TWO RULES: 1. Top 10 recruit classes 2. Beat Tech. These two keep a coach at UGA forever. CMR is getting shaky.

Scott Bernarde,

Thank you.

Demetre Baker sounds like a fish out of water at linebacker, and a very small one at that at 5 feet something and less than 195 lbs.

Brent Benedict is yet another injured player, and a serious injury. We have had quite a few of those, you know. Isn’t athletic another word for small OL ? You are certainly right Scott saying that our OL has underperformed, especially at blocking for the run and at falling on fumbles.

Michael Bennett sounds like a player who might get in a play after we have given up 29, 31 or 42 consecutive points and get to line up against our opponent’s 3rd string cornerback. I think we call running plays on those downs nowadays, don’t we ? I can hear the boos reigning down as I ask, we call running plays on those plays, right.

Brandon Burrows great another Defensive End, we signed 5 DE today, and another injured player we can nurse along. Best of luck Brandon. We are counting on you, even if you are a little undersized at DE, perhaps that’s why you haven’t played with your injury.

Marc Deas, an undersized inexperienced at his position, out of position, player. Good thing we have a good defense. 185 lbs. Defense. Can I get back to you on that ?

Jalen Fields top 250 player. Not sure I have heard that ever said about a player before Scott, that he is top 250. I have heard of top 50. Top 250. Well, another DE. We singed 5 DE today and Jalen Fields no one is sure what position he will play ? This might not be the best use for a 5th DE signing today. When you say he is almost 260 lbs., is that another way of saying he is slow and slotted for Defensive Tackle, if we feed him some corn-fed beef ?

Kenarious Gates still learning how to play football. Stole him from Kentucky. That’s where we are now in recruiting Number 100 player at his position. I guess that’s good right ?

Jakar Hamilton. Not usually a big fan of signing JUCO players to play 2 years and gone, but this is a good one. They usually are. In a class ranked barely in the Top 25 of every rankings, it normally inflates your rankings to sign good tough defensive players especially in the backfield. I have studied his words and we might have some issues here. Before our new Defensive Coordinator Todd Grantham could find his way to Athens from Dallas in 7-days, Jakar spoke up. You want to know the truth ? Jakar could be a problem with his mouth. And, he might not be very smart. Football player in a poor recruiting class ? Yes, he is that. Any baggage here Scott, because I think I hear some.

Kolton Houston 270 lbs OL. No I don’t think so. Scott, you say he needs work on his blocking techniques. Thanks for coming Kolton. Best of luck sir.

Ken Malcome running back who is slow you say Scott. You know we had some of the best running backs in the nation in the state of Georgia this year. We didn’t sign any of them after we scratched our collective heads on Offensive Coaching Staff trying to find someone, anyone who could run and not fumble behind the OL you said Scott was questionable at times. Yeah, like when we tried to run the ball except against very weak porous defensive lines such as Texas A&M and Georgia tek.

Hutson Mason is a work in progress. Why not call it like it is ? You mentioned 1 player earlier number 250 player you said, well Hutson Mason is not one of those, even. 3 Quarterbacks who none of them have any experience and are not ready to play all freshmen you say Scott ? Excuse me, we had no QB ready in 2006, in 2007 we said maybe our QB can be consistent promptly losing 2 of the games to start the season in our own division with losses to both, none in 2009 and now none in 2010. What’s different about this year ?

Dexter Morant. Pinch me. Did you say another Defensive End please Scott ? Is that all we gave scholarship offers to, DE ? Or was it that if any DE in the nation accepted, we took him ? Another DE ? 5 in one recruiting class at DE ? Trying to remember now, in the 1-gap 3-4, how many of these DE get to play at a time ? 6-7 and only 240 lbs you say he needs to bulk up. Skinny as a rail is not usually what you hear about a player who will play on the Defensive Line. String bean might about describe 6-7 and 240 lbs.

Alec Ogletree, great one. Play right now. Did he make us sign his runt of a twin who is 5 feet 9 inches tall ? I just don’t understand all that Alec. Can I say that sir ? Is it a sore spot ? Alec 6 feet 3 inches. Twin 5 feet 9 inches. Great Scott. There is something wrong with this picture.

Alex.

Covered that one.

Ronnie Outlaw. My God. 6’ 5” and 170 lbs ? Is he from Ethiopia ? Someone hand him a bowl of grits. This guy is malnourished. Sorry Scott. You say he needs muscle ? Have him put some rocks in his pockets.

Derek Owens. 5 feet 9 and 180 lbs. he weighs MORE than Ronnie who is a foot taller. Oh, we are going to have him defend the 6 feet 5 inch tall SEC receivers. Wonderful. Can we buy him a ladder ? Scott, please don’t tell us he has no speed. Short, slow and hey maybe he is Academic All-America ? Oh, no needs work jamming taller receivers with his lack of speed and someone on this “coaching staff” recruited Derek Owens to play in our secondary ? He’ll fit right in.

Garrison Smith. Good one. What’s that 2 I have said that about, so far ? A whole entire recruiting class and we have 1 Safety and 1 Defensive Tackle. Well, we need you son. Get out there and get after it. You will have a great NFL career, even if we lose to Florida again every year you’re here, and to the vols every other year and Kentucky a couple of times, and never get to play against one Final AP Poll Top Ranked Team in a Bowl Game.

T.J. Stripling, good one. Hey, we’re all the way up to 3 now. Lost 7 defensive starters, our Quarterback, never really settled on a Running Back all year last year playing favorites and redshirting or trying to our best running backs while he can’t figure out who can run behind our OL without fumbling, and our 1 wide receiver on the whole team in years is gone to the NFL after this season after being injured for almost the entire second half last year, and hey we have 3 shots at a great player in this recruiting class we’re up to now with TJ Stripling. Some dimwit in here told me he would never see the field. More on that later when he hits the field, right ?

Mike Thornton. Where the hell did we get him from ? Hey great. 1 wanted another DL player with Garrison Smith. This is good news. Thanks Scott.

Scott, sir, it is a down year.

Our worst recruiting class ever.

8-5 Shreveport bowl game year against a team who doesn’t even have a winning record, and no defense, unranked in the AP and Coaches’ Polls.

Lost several to the NFL again.

Now this. No one at recruiting Signing Day.

God Almighty.

What’s up is that the recruits in this Sovereign State of Georgia hear all the boos reigning down on our Offense. We did well on defense this year.

No offense recruits. What’s up with this ? Uh. Not the boos but the poor Mike Bobo play calls and WASTED TALENT.

Is that it Scott Bernarde ? No more Signings ?

It’s hard to believe.

In this state of Georgia.

Damn it.

After an 8-5 Shreveport year we Lost to Florida again, Lost to the vols again, Lost to Okie State even Houston beat, Lost to LSU again (Did we lose to the entire SEC?) and hey after we Lost to Kentucky another of those 6-Loss teams we lose to nowadays in the DOWN UGA FOOTBALL PROGRAM.

I hear a lot of excuses for this recruiting class, but what is clear is that we have recruited far better every other year, and it is just as clear that we have wasted that talent with an inexperienced poor coaching staff on both sides of the ball offense and defense and on special teams for 10 years now.

3 losses a year including more than 2 Top 10 Final AP Poll SEC teams, and 1 UNRANKED team in the Final AP Poll Top 25 every year for a Decade now.

In 14-game seasons now, we have had more than 11 wins just 1 time in this Decade.

Note that we have accomplished this 3-8 vs Top 10 Final AP Poll SEC teams and 17-19 vs Top 25 Final AP Poll teams in the 9-Year Coach Richt Era with GREAT RECRUITING.

Now, the recruits do not listen to us any more but to the negative recruiting against us, and we sign exactly 0 impact players on the Offense, who it seems cannot line up and run a play without a penalty, or if they do either fumble or throw an interception. 4 very good opportunities to fully expect All-America type players on Defense. That’s good, but why can’t we sign any top Offensive Players ? We didn’t get them on Offense last year and now we don’t get them on offense again this year.

There is no way you can blame the recruiting class on the AJ-C.

Biased ?

Yes they are.

They have been you say for 40 years, and it has been longer than that by my reckoning; but we have recruited far better every year of this 10-Year Coach Richt Era now this year, so what the AJ-C has said has not only not affected us in the past, but it is the exact same comments everyone is saying including all of us that this class is not good.

We are Officially now in Decline.

3 of the previous 4 years have been huge disappointments, and now we start our 4th year in the last 5 with this poor recruiting class when in the past we did so much better recruiting and still were 3rd best (actually now 4th best) in The SEC in the Coach Richt Era.

With great recruits, we were less than stellar against the Top 10 Final AP Poll Opponents in The SEC at 3-8 in the Coach Richt Era. We also were 17-19 vs Top 25 Final AP Poll teams. And, threw in for good measure 8 Losses to UNRANKED teams, one a year, in addition.

Now, we cannot recruit for the Offense to save our souls.

But, all we needed was to fire Willie Martinez.

We have to have an 11-year NFL veteran coach the defense but the offense can all be coaching out of position with none of them 1 day in the NFL coaching and the entire Sanford Stadium booing the play calls on Offense.

Do you think just maybe that the players, the recruits, and not the AJ-C have made a statement to UGA to all of us Bulldog Fans that our Offense is wasting talent, calling poor play calls, and not preparing our players to play and that therefore the Offensive Players in this state and beyond do NOT want to play on Mike Bobo’s FAILED OFFENSE ?

Relax Dawg Nation, everything will be just fine. How many of these recruits actually make it big in college and how many actually sees the field, and thirdly how many actually play the first year. Which of these athletes were 5 star coming out of High School: Bret Favre, Ladanian Tomlinson, Kurt Warner- he was not even drafted , Tom Brady – he was drafted in the 6th round, several undrafted Free Agents made the Pro bowl this year, Jesse Tuggle was not sought after and went to a small School, so did Shannon Sharpe. Guys take my word, there will be some gems in this class, and we believe they will be better coached.
We hope CMR gets it now after seeing the reaction of the Dawg Nation and get rid of the stupid motivational ploy like the blackout and the pre game ritual with him in the middle of the huddle. He may need to look seriously at Bobo this upcoming season and decide if he is good enough for this league.

UGA did the best they could do recruiting. A lot of kids don’t won’t to go to UGA because the program is not stable. UGA needs to recruit QB’s that are Football Players, not the so called I think he will be a good QB in our system . Every year we have to recruit Stafford TYPE QBs are better. I think we will be fine with the new defense, but the QB postion is something we need to address every year, because putting pressure on our defense to score TDS is not good. We need a talented QB as our starter and backup every year. Having Talented Coachable QBS on our team = SEC and National Championships. We always will have ball players to fit our defense because we dont’ have a choice, We did hire defensive coach from the cowboys I think he knows how to coach’em up……
