Three UGA players undergo surgery (updated)

Athens – For starters, a quick medical report:

Three Georgia football players have undergone surgery in the past week.

Offensive lineman Justin Anderson and fullback Fred Munzenmaier both underwent shoulder surgeries. They will be limited in spring practice but full speed by pre-season camp in August, UGA said.

Defensive end Jeremy Longo had knee surgery. He will miss all of spring practice but is expected to be fine by August, UGA said.

—————————-

I’m working today on a story about how Georgia’s defensive players are dealing with their uncertain “new world” — the new 3-4 scheme, the new coaches, etc. (UPDATE: The full story is posted here.)

The players haven’t yet met the newly hired coaches -– defensive coordinator Todd Grantham and defensive-backs coach Scott Lakatos -– but are looking forward to doing so at a defensive-team meeting on Friday.

“I think it’s a little bit of both . . .  excitement and nerves,” Abry Jones said. “Players are excited that we finally got a new coach and a new scheme. We’re also a little nervous because we’ve never run it before.”

Jones  said players have been talking among themselves “about where we could play and stuff like that” in the new scheme. “We’re just waiting to see.” Jones, who said his weight is up to 299, was a defensive tackle in the old 4-3 defense, but if given his choice in the 3-4 he said he’d prefer to play defensive end rather than nose tackle.  “I played [D-end] in high school. It wouldn’t be much of a jump,” he said.

Meanwhile, safety Bacarri Rambo is fired up about the 3-4, hoping it will result in more pressure on the opposing quarterback and thus more chances for interceptions by the defensive backs. Rambo loved Grantham’s description of his defense to the media last week as an aggressive, attacking style.

“If he said ‘aggressive,’ I’m ready to see how this season will turn out because I think that’s what we’ve been missing. Aggressive,” Rambo said.  “Just go out there and make plays.”

Rambo’s new position coach, Lakatos, was the secondary coach at Connecticut this past season. Rambo said he happened to watch UConn’s victory over South Carolina in the PapaJohn’s.com Bowl and was impressed with how the Huskies’ secondary played.

The full story will have comments from additional players as well.

With that being said….I think the players will welcome a change to the “Bend but don’t break” philosophy that has dominated UGA’s defenses for the past 8 yrs or so…

Man this sounds so good, i think this is actually what we need, and i think this is what UGA defense has always beens about. If you think about it in the past we have always played this kind of football, the bend and dont break style hurt us and our image of being a nasty defense. We’ll now go back to have the guy bigger and stronger ranther than lighter in weight. Lets get it coach Grantham and UGA GATA GO DAWGS.

The UGA players have to be excited about this…more blitzing (something that wasn’t even in the playbook under Willie), more attacking, and more turnover opportunities…should be exciting to watch!

SEC East is probably as winnable for the Dawgs as it’s been in the past 5 years. If one of our QBs can step up and play well, we should be rolling over the Tide in the SEC Championship game (or at least playing against them).

this is a long-awaited post by ajc. Considering the relevance of this significant and impactful change in our defense, i think a lot of time should be focused on potential position changes and which players we expect to flourish in next season’s unit.

Defensive Line:::: Much has been made about the need for a ”mount-cody” type player at NT, and while that kind of talent is always a plus, it should be noted that the role of the NT in Granthem’s scheme only plays one gap like the the DE. So, in this regard, size isn’t the primary factor in determining which DT takes the reign at NT. We can expect this to play itself out throughout the spring and summer, but my gut-feeling tells me that our most dominant interior lineman (with little regard to size) will occupy the NT position. With the DE position, this, in some ways, works out in our favor when we consider how many experienced DE/DT or “tweeners” we have. But it should be noted that the DE in a 3-4 scheme, for all intensive purposes, is your more-athletic 4-3 DT. All in all, the change in scheme, from the standpoint of the defensive line, works out in our favor–in a year we lose 3 realllllllly good DTs to the NFL. I think our first unit looks solid but i’m waiting to see which players emerge and fill out the depth chart.

Predicted Depth Chart:
NT: 1) D. Tyson 2) K. Geathers 3) J. Whittaker (high school)
DE: 1) D. Dobbs 2) G. Smith (high school) 3) K. Tripp
DE: 1) B. Woods 2) A. Jones 3) D. Lott

Linebacker: This is probably the most interesting position to look at, particularly with many former DEs making a shift to the rush end OLB. I have some thoughts about this: there are some guys that will benefit from this shift while other players can possibly struggle to define their roles on the team. It goes without saying that we’re a little thin–both in terms of size and depth–but our ILB should be studs. We return at least three productive, strong, big-bodied backers at ILB but quality depth will be hard to develop by the start of the season. At OLB/rush-end, the possibilities are endless, but there are certainly some concerns i have. How will J. houston and M. Robinson–two really talented DEs who seem more comfortable with their hands down fit in? what about a guy like N. Williams? There is a lot of raw talent in this unit but i’m really curious about where and how guys line up. On a more positive note, I expect a guy like C. Washington to be a future star on this defense. He is one player, with ideal physical measurements and quickness, that has the most upside of becoming a force on the outside.

Predicted Depth Chart:

ILB: 1)D. Gamble 2) C. Robinson 3) C. Vasser
ILB: 1A) M. Dowtin 1B) A. Dent
OLB/DE: 1) J. Houston 2A) C. Washington 2B) M. Robinson 3) T. Strippling (high school)
OLB: 1) N. Williams 2) M. Gilliard

Defensive Backs:::::I don’t imagine the new scheme impacting the DBs as much as the front seven, and with two premier corners developing, a great deal of the spring and summer will be focused on sorting out the depth chart behind the first unit. Saftey, however, will be something interesting to stay tuned in to. There is a lot of talent to pull from and frankly i think this is a unit that only has up to go from years past. Sadly however, at first glance at least, i don’t see too many pure playmakers

Predicted Depth Chart:

CB: 1) B. Boykin 2) J. Love 3) D.Owens (high school)
CB: 1) B. Smith 2) V. Cuff 3) B. Robel (high school)
FS: 1) B. Rambo 2) S. Cummings 3) M. Pugh
SS: 1) Q. Banks( i’m just waiting for him to break out) 2) J. Hamilton 3) A. Ogeltree (high school) 3) S. Williams

***Hey real dawg fans, let’s turn this into a productive, adult forum. I’m just geeked up next year already, and i would love to hear any thoughts or comments about my post.

SS is an interesting position to watch. From my take, A Ogeltree is coming to Athens to play right away, especially since he probably expected Jones to leave early to the NFL. I’ve seen some tape and the guy looks like a monster play maker and he definietly attacks the football, which is what we need at SS with this new defensive scheme…

IknowGeorgiaFootball

January 20th, 2010
4:38 pm

Nickz:

A. Ogeltree is a very interesting case. From the tape i’ve seen one thing he’s definitely demonstrated is an ability to play with great instincts around the box and tackle with a scary streak of aggression. But one thing that worries me about placing Ogeltree atop the depth chart at this point is his underdeveloped pass-coverage skills. This is largely a product of the system and region he played in, but i anticipate Ogeltree assuming the role of student–similar to rashead jones–his first year before breaking out. But i can–and hope–be wrong and Ogeltree becomes the all-world saftey everyone expects him to become from day one. And i wouldn’t be terribly surprised if he moved down in the box to LB. Either way, Ogeltree is an absolute stud.

SF Dawg

With a whole new scheme, everyone is on page 1 of the defensive playbook and no one has earned playing time to the new coaches… so I figure the gate is wide open for a number of freshman to see significant playing time… not sure if that is a good thing, but it’ll sure be good for practice.

And we’ll probably be in a nickel a good portion of the time (just like Bama), so next year, depending on how well we can stop the run (and I don’t think Tyson has the work ethic to excel at NT), I think you may see Ogletree in at NB over guys with more experience… Ogletree at NB is almost like adding another ILB cuz he’s a natural run-stopper and that kid can HIT!

Another point of interest: If Richard Samuel can throw on another 20-25 lbs, his athleticism could prove a real asset at OLB in a 3-4.

Richard Samuel will be playing OLB if he decides to move. Grantham needs to talk him into it and I think he will move. He will be 2nd in the depth chart by the start of the season. He can put on 20 more lbs and will still run a 4-4. We need that speed at that position and I think Samuel is the guy to add some depth there.

So I guess Rambo was glad to see willie gone too. All the reports came out that the players loved him, which may be true, but from those comments it seems like they questioned his scheme also. I loved the words grantham used about the defense he wants to bring to UGA, I do think it will take time though. If UGA got a guy that ran the 4-3 I think we could’ve seen a quick change in the defense; however, this scheme is quite different and will take some time to learn.

I think it will be in samuel’s best interest to switch. He isn’t going to get any playing time at RB and with his speed and size, especially if he can put on afew more pounds, he could be a great LB and would have a better chance to make it to the NFL.

Mike, I’m enjoying the excitement about UGA football. It’s kind of refreshing to read some real football comments rather having to read GT comments. I think IKnow…’s depth chart meant to include N Robey, a cornerback who may decommit before he gets to Athens. But that’s okay,
there’s other athletes who want to go to UGA. I agree that we need to let the coaches do the coaching and not criticize, but its okay to
look ahead with excitement.

This new D scheme will take some time to gel, obviously. Don’t drink the Grantham koolaide just yet. I loved his presser, but what is he supposse to say??? “Well, we’re really not going to be very aggressive. We’ll play a base 3-4 that will bend but won’t break. We’ll react to what the offense gives us.” Sounds like Willie’s D from last year, right? Guess what? The D TRIED to be aggressive early last year w/ NO RESULTS because of a lack of personel. CMR said a few times in the middle of the year that they tried all kind of blitz packages(including some ‘fire zone’ bliztes that Saban loves to run) but they still couldnt get sufficient pressure.

This is why Willie had to play those soft zones and let opponents dink and dunk us to death. The secondary was so horrible that they even got beat deep multiple times even w/ the secondary playing 10 yards off of their men. Let’s see how Grantham can coach these guys up before you start to celebrate.

As much as this pains me to say, stop worrying. The 3-4 is all about having the right players and position discipline. Grantham seems to be the man to instill the discipline and you have good athletes so you should be fine. Roll Tide!!!

Thank you, Josh. Now back to the fun! Your defense should be much improved next year, but the offense is the big question mark. The running game SHOULD be strong, but I believe you’re going to have a rookie QB. Losses on the O-Line, too? From what I know about Richt’s offense, it depends on playmakers at skill positions. Some good ones coming up?

Kids are so cute. Umm, Damarcus Dobbs will be a DE in the new 3-4. A DE in a 3-4 is a modified version of a DT in a 4-3. He’s only listed at 275, which is light for a DE in a 3-4, but he’ll throw on some weight over the offseason, and he’s already strong as a bull. He’ll line up between a guard and tackle most times and just try to hold up the line as the Outside backers try to rush around the tackles and the Inside backers come barreling in stuffing the run, or rushing the QB in passing downs.

Now, it’s 10pm, go to bed young man, don’t you have school in the am??

I have been posting like minded thoughts for some time…The problem is, we are not here at the same time it seems, but how refreshing ! I agreed for the most part of the depth chart breakdown you suggested. I do however se Kwamee Gathers perhaps moving up the chart in short order ,if what I read about him recently is true……At 6ft 6in 330lbs and quick on his feet would be a pretty stout NT, What I read and perhaps you could clarify…..He apparently had such a good red shirt year on the scout team he was voted MVP…… Just dont remember where I got that info…..But if true, which I believe it to be….. then there is your foundation in the very near future……I wont go on for now, but I do hope to meet you on a discussion soon. As for the adult thing….man that can be tough, alot of trash to wade through, but if we simply ignore them…and suggest others to do the same….I can see us having some very entertaining discussions amoung real UGA people…..GO DOGS !!!….GATA……. Coach Richt Era of 9 years :

17-19 vs Final AP Poll Top 25 teams plus 8 more losses to teams UNRANKED.

The Final AP Poll Top 25 are the real teams a Coach faced that season.

We are mediocre at 17-19 against Final AP Poll Top 25 the year we played them.

And, of course, on the average a Loss every year against some UNRANKED team in the Final AP Poll Top 25 the year we played them with 8 such truly troubling losses.

Looking at just the Final AP Poll Top 25, combined with the 8 troubling losses to teams not in the Final AP Poll Top 25, what we have as a record in the Coach Richt Era, compared to the Final AP Poll Top 25, the year we played them, it is only therefore 17-27.

If you play a 1-A team and Lose, then that counts as a Loss.

If you play a 1-A team and win, that game was not a great game.

Similarly, if we play a team that ends the season not in the Final AP Poll Top 25 and Lose, that is a Loss looking at the Final AP Poll Top 25 because, as against a 1-A team, a Loss to a team outside the Final AP Poll Top 25 counts as a Loss.

17-27 Coach Richt Era 9 years vs Final AP Poll Top 25 or Losses to teams outside Top 25.

Further, sir, if Mike Bobo was supposed to be the answer for Offensive Coordinator, then look a might closer at The Coach Richt Era please.

Coach Richt beat 3 Final AP Poll Top 10 teams. Only 1 of those was by David Greene, his Freshman season in the hobnailed boot, never matched by him again. DJ Shockley had 1 in 1 year against Number 6 LSU.

Since Mike Bobo has been the Offensive Coordinator, we have -0- wins over a Final AP Poll Top 10 team.

Mike Bobo as O.C. is 5-6 vs Final AP Poll Top 25 (0 over Top 10) plus 4 Losses vs UNRANKED teams in the Final AP Poll Top 25.

In the seasons we UGA Bulldog fans consider Close, in fact, Coach Richt got to play a 5-Loss Florida State team who had no business being ranked at all whatsoever, obviously. And, he got to play Hawaii, a hapless team that ended up ranked just barely, like FSU.

Have a great season ? Beat great teams ? Get a bowl game against a Top Opponent as the Reward on the National Stage and be therefore considered for a really big Bowl Game ? We haven’t had that.

Largely, we have whiffed on evaluating talent the 9-Year Coach Richt Era.

9 of the Best Football Players in the Nation were Redshirted on this team who Lost 5 games without them.

We ripped the Redshirt Off the Rivals’ Number 11 Running Back in the Nation with three quarters of the 5th game already played, and our season long since by then in the Tank. Washaun Ealey got to play 9 games of the 13, well 8 and a half of the 13.

Even then, we seemed reluctant to send him out there.

Marlon Brown we did not Redshirt. We threw him a grand total of 2 passes all season long for a grand total of 15 yards on the season. He played 8 of the 13 games.

Knowshon Moreno, you recall, we only got to see 2 years because we Redshirted him.

I have no idea what we have done to the recruits that come in here Ranked on The Average in Both Rivals and Scout.com as the Number 7 Recruiting Class in the Nation, but no where is it more evident probably than in the Secondary, that we just haven’t seemed to have UGA Bulldog Secondary players. Not in the mold of Secondary Players prior to Coach Richt.

We have had seasons where it was totally obvious even to AJ-C Sportswriters and the rest of the nation, including truth be told all of us, that we had glaring holes on our team. We went out and recruited nothing to address those holes.

Other years, we have stockpiled our recruits at positions we were already 5-Deep at.

We recruit 6 OL 2 years in a row and then 1 a year for the next 3. Then, we don’t have any again and recruit 6 again. And, wonder why we have a poor offense. We have done this the entire Coach Richt Era.

We have 5 DE recruited in this class of 19. How many DE do we need ? Wouldn’t plan such as get 2 a year be better ? Rodney Garner has been here since Jim Donnan hired him from the vols. Why 5 DE in the class February 1, 2010 ?

Before Matthew Stafford got here, the national publications said that all of this adds up to UGA is NOT an Elite Football Program.

We’re really not.

LSU and Florida both have done better in the Coach Richt Era than UGA. Now, too, Alabama clearly is ahead of us. And, while UGA has been higher ranked in the Final AP Poll every year for the last 8 years and counting than the vols, we have Lost to them HALF OF THOSE GAMES.

We are like the Buffalo Bills of College Football.

We don’t seem to have any strategy on offense.

We can’t even line up and run a play without a penalty.

We don’t seem to have any strategy on kick-offs or kick-off returns.

We watched Caleb King all year the year before this one. And, he was going to be our Savior ? We watched Richard Samuel with his fumbles, and figured we could Redshirt Washaun Ealey ?

9 Top Football Players in the Nation were Redshirted by a team that Lost 5 games.

And, if you are going to talk about and break down The Coach Richt Era, then respectfully, I submit that you must disclose too the 121 Arrests/Suspensions in the Coach Richt Era. You simply cannot ignore it, lie about it and say they did not happen, nor attempt to mitigate it by saying they are 18-year old kids and made a mistake. We have been undisciplined on the field and off. Haven’t we ?

We have largely had a Failed Offense for 9 years. While David Greene and DJ Shockley certainly did not fumble the football or throw interceptions, the rest of our Quarterbacks most assuredly have, especially the Mike Bobo Offensive Coordinator Era.

We went 12 Consecutive Seasons starting Mike Bobo’s Great Senior Season Top 10 Final AP Poll Ranking in 1997 being ranked in the Final AP Poll Top 25; then this year we did not.

So, we tell ourselves that we have won 8 or more games a season for 13 years and that no other program has done that with UGA.

39 NFL players are UGA Bulldogs and we Aspire to Win 8 games ?

Mediocre in a 13-game season guys.

However, there is little reason to believe that we really deserved to be ranked the year before this last season. Had we started out at Number 13 where we ended, we would have been UNRANKED. We started Number 1, as you recall in every poll.

Matthew Stafford’s Freshman Year, we did not deserve to be ranked either, ending up Number 23.

David Greene’s Freshman Year, too, we ended up Number 22 and really did not deserve that ranking either.

2009, 2008, 2006, and 2001, honestly, we were not that great and didn’t deserve to be ranked but got ranked in some polls and other polls we were not ranked. That’s half the Coach Richt Era.

Coach Richt Era has Averaged Number 13 Final AP Poll Top 25.

That is good, if you compare it Ray Goff Era. And, like I say, we never have had a season in which we were rewarded with a truly big Bowl Game Opponent we then beat.

Number 13 team in the nation on the average.

It is what it is.

It is very difficult to sit there and argue we are an Elite Football Program in the Coach Richt Era with 8 Losses in 9 seasons against teams UNRANKED in the Final AP Poll Top 25 teams.

Moreover,

17-19 vs Final AP Poll Top 25 teams Coach Richt Era plus 8 Losses UNRANKED teams

We are going to have a good season, this season coming up. We have a Stellar Couple of Kickers, and we have Probably The Best Defense we have Lined up since Erk Russell this up-coming season. That was 3 decades ago old-timers.

It’s our Offense.

We knocked the lid off this program with the hobnailed boot and then David Greene NEVER duplicated that feat beating a Final AP Poll Top 10 team after that his freshman campaign.

We do not have an offense.

You can fool yourself all you want about 90-27, but the facts are that we are the 3rd team in The SEC in the Coach Richt Era. And, now Alabama has passed us too.

Only 3 states send more of their high school football players to the NFL than the Sovereign State of Georgia. California, Florida and Texas then Georgia.

We hand this coaching staff better talent than the results prove.

We stockpile at some positions while others which are Glaring Holes to the World, go without proper talent, like we don’t even recognize the Urgency at those positions.

We have not prepared a Quarterback again for next season with 3 Quarterbacks none of whom has taken a meaningful snap.

We are thin at Running Back and recruited 1 ranked outside the Top 25 in the nation by every recruiting service.

We go year after year after year without recruiting running backs.

We go year after year after year without a Secondary.

We have 2 top fullbacks and never gave either the football without any Running Backs.

Then, rip the Redshirt off Washaun Ealey in the 3rd Quarter of Game 5.

Season by then already in shambles.

How long are we going to hang on to Mike Bobo as OC ?

The results are NOT THERE.

The results we do have our LOSING RESULTS.

If you Aspire to be 10-3 every year, you will finish where we do Number 13 on the average.

Just compare that to the other programs in our own conference over the same period of the Coach Richt Era, and you will see that we are 3rd in The SEC in the Coach Richt Era and now too Alabama has passed us. That makes us Number 4 in our own conference.

How are you going to be considered an Elite Football Program when you are the 4th Best in your Own Conference ?

That really is not what I would like to have as our goal.

Therefore, I am not satisfied by it.

There is something called the Top 25.

I would like to be in that.

There is something called the Top 10.

I would like to be in that, and we have done that but we have had HALF the Coach Richt Era where Frankly in 2001, 2006, 2008 and 2009 (note 3 of the last 4 seasons) we did not deserve to be even in the Top 25.

Then, there is something better than Top 25, better than Top 10 and those are the Elite Football Programs that stand out at the top, and yes to be in that group you have to have won a national championship in some poll anyway in the last 3 decades.

We haven’t done that.

Blame it on 3-17 vs. Florida over the last 2 decades all you want.

LSU is better and so is Alabama now too.

Hell, we lose to two 7-6 UNRANKED TEAMS Kentucky and vols.

6-Loss teams, two of them, and we LOSE BOTH GAMES ?

17-19 vs Final AP Poll Top 25 teams Coach Richt Era plus 8 Losses UNRANKED teams

Number 13 in other words.

90-27.

10-3 in other words, with 4 of the 9 seasons frankly not deserving to be even ranked.

END QUOTES

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP sometime soon ?

Our skill positions are pretty solid as well, Our skill set is as good as any in the SEC ?

How can I look at this record and make such depressive comments?

Look, I gave it to you straight. We beat 3 Top 10 Final AP Poll teams in the Coach Richt Era.

We have Lost to 8 teams not even ranked in the Final AP Poll Top 25.

17-19 against Final AP Poll Top 25 teams in the Coach Richt Era.

Average Number 7 recruiting class every year according to both Rivals and Scout.com

39 in the NFL UGA Bulldogs.

90-27.

Average Number 13 Final AP Poll Ranking Coach Richt Era.

Our 2 Best Years, we get to play on the National Stage against a 5-Loss Florida State team who had no business being ranked at all but came in Ranked 21 in the Final Poll and the other Best Year, we get to play Hawaii whom came in Ranked Number 19 in the Final Poll. Neither of those teams should have been ranked at all.

I have stated repeatedly we have not only the Best Kickers on 1 team in America, but on Defense with the 9 top football players in America, all Redshirted in a 5-Loss season we could have instead sorely used them especially against Kentucky and the vols 2 unranked 6-Loss teams each we lost to again, we clearly have in my mind our Best Defense this coming season since Erk Russell which was 3 Decades ago.

We have prepared 1 Quarterback in the Coach Richt Era, DJ Shockley. We have, once again, this up-coming season, no Quarterback with a meaningful snap.

There are 5 SEC teams bringing in far better recruiting classes than we are, and here we are now today FIVE (5) DAYS after we hired our Defensive Coordinator, and as I understand it the players are trying to figure out themselves what Todd Grantham has to say about them and how they fit in or don’t into his 3-4 one gap.

6 days later ?

When does he show up ?

Dead period ended and the final push is on. It ended right after we hired him.

On the National Scene, we are a program who hasn’t won a National Championship in over 3 Decades now this season. That means fans who are 30 years old, have never in their lifetime seen UGA Football at our Best.

Those who are 40 might remember.

Are we a lot better than we were in the Ray Goff Era. That is hardly the question, is it gentlemen ?

Through UGA history, we have enjoyed the very best Defensive Backs in the history of college football playing for UGA.

The guys who just left and we lost the entire secondary, never covered a player in their entire career here. Not once.

We have and I have stated I have, great enthusiasm for our Defense without them, as I didn’t like watching them try to play the way we coached them here.

The recruits are pretty much in their mold.

I know Georgia Football has TJ Stripling where I put him.

He doesn’t have the excitement I do about Alec Ogletree in my Secondary. I have no questions about him anymore than I have questions about the 9 Redshirted Players I detailed to you.

I hardly think those are statistics.

Neither is it a statistic that Florida and LSU have a better Won/Loss Record in the Coach Richt Era than he has.

Nor that Alabama is now better than UGA in the Coach Richt Era too.

4th.

If you don’t like the truth that we are in fact the 4th in The SEC, sorry.

It is true.

And, you all know it.

Florida, Alabama, Auburn, and LSU all have better recruiting classes than we do, and this is our claim to fame. Good recruiting. Redshirt them all, but great recruiting classes. Even the vols had better recruiting class until their coaches went to USC and re recruited their players OUT of the vols’ recruiting class.

17-19 vs Final AP Poll Top 25 plus 8 losses to unranked teams Richt Era

But, great recruiting classes.

Holes at some positions stockpiled at others.

But, great recruiting classes.

While we have been ranked ahead of the vols 8 consecutive years now today in the Final AP Poll, we LOST HALF THOSE GAMES.

We need someone tall in our Secondary for a change, like Alec Ogletree.

I am sorry that I do not have time to sit here and type posts back and forth all day long with you, I have 18 guys to keep busy. But, the number of words I say are nowhere near as many as you do, 3 posts at t time every 15 minutes all day long.

I sit and think about UGA Football.

I read everything on UGA football, nationally, locally, and that you write in the blogs.

I do it over a cup of coffee and head to work. Long days at work.

While you sit in here typing your 50 million posts each, which are far in excess of the number of words I have to say.

You just don’t like it that we are 17-19 vs Final AP Poll Top 25 with 8 losses vs UNRANKED teams in the Coach Richt Era.

Prefer to say we have had anything but admitting 2001, 2006, 2008 and 2009 seasons, half the Coach Richt Era where NONE of those teams deserved to be ranked at all, were serious downers, and leaves everyone but you, sitting there saying UGA Football under Coach Richt ?

Not a whole lot there.

Our Problems are, have been and will be next season again, on OFFENSE.

We will then lose 14 Seniors after this season coming up plus I predict 4 or more Juniors.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP ?

4th best team in our Conference.

Skill Position players, we are VERY THIN.

You guys hype our football program, and you wish no one else could even come in here and tell you the truth that we ARE NOT WHAT YOU ATTEMPT TO MAKE US OUT TO BE ON THE NATIONAL SCENE.

And then you don’t even want to hear anyone tell you the truth that we are an afterthought. That we are poorly coached in the Coach Richt Era. As much as I love what Coach Richt has done to have us 10-3 every year, I know 10-3 is 13 in the nation and 4th in The SEC.

Not exactly what I personally aspire to.

We have a bad offense who for the entire Mike Bobo Offensive Coordinator Years has been wholly unable to line up, run a play without a penalty and not turn the ball over.

True or not true ?

3 of the last 4 years now today, have been HUGE DISAPPOINTMENTS.

True or not true ?

Just be realistic.

That’s all I suggest.

Posting that we will beat Alabama this up-coming season without a QB on the roster with 1 meaningful snap is DISNEYdawg of you. And, our Offensive Line has been just about the biggest disappointment of every position. AJ Green if he isn’t injured again the focus of every defense we play cannot win for us on his own. The injury toll for him is mounting. Who else are our Skill Players, Either Side of the Ball ?

Just be realistic.

9-4, maybe 10-3.

Will these players tweet while they are in surgery? Why so many injuries at UGA ? Does that Van Von dude really know what he is doing when it comes to strength and conditioning ?

My only question is why did they wait until now to operate. It would seem to be the best to do as soon as the bowl game was over. Who’s in charge in Athens?

I suggest a character limit on these posts
BuLLdawg seeing as you read “everything UGA” over a cup of coffee at work, which I assume your job is not coaching a division 1 team in the SEC, give us all a break and switch to decaf.

Alabama Jack, while Dawgs fans can sometimes be obnoxious pricks they will never come close to Bamer’s fanbase. You know…like you.

I totally agree, anal cavity.

I think you guys will be fine in the 3-4. Athletes are never an issue (top 10 recruiting every year), and the new coaching philosophy should give you guys the shake up you need. I listened to Grantham on the radio this morning, and he sounds like the guy you need. He said the D will be a single gap attacking scheme with pressure coming from all over. I got geeked listening to it, and I am not a Bulldogs fan (I do coach D though)! Sometimes change is good. Also, looking at your schedule, you should at least win 2 or 3 more games. OOC: Colorado, LaLafayette, Idaho State, GaTech. No Bama or LSU. Aside from UF, @ Auburn looks like the toughest conf game. Time will tell. Can’t wait for football to fire up again.

Hey, for all you who took the time out to read and comment about my post, know that it is great to know that there are other passionate and knowledgeable dawgs out there: Thank You. Red Dawg 77 especially, i can feel your energy brother.

I’ve raed through the other posts and there seems to be two players of interest: D. Dobbs and R. Samuel.
On D. Dobbs, i definitely don’t envision him playing LB too often, but i will give the young man his due credit and think that he possesses exceptional athleticism for someone his size. His best bet will probably be to get his weight up to about 290 and become a stout DE/DT. To be perfectly honest, i’ve never been a big fan of bigger, slower DEs playing in 4-3 scheme. And, at the end, this transition probably gives Dobbs the best chance to crack that tight NFL door.

On R. Sammuel: I just have to say that i, first, feel sorry for the young man. He sacrificed his last semester of high school, and for the past two years he’s been one of the most under-utilized athletes in the nation. he came in as a 5 star guy and is being used like a 2 star player. The Georgia program and Mark Richt have demonstrated that they can recruit big-time players, but as we have seen—with guys like R. Jones, B. Evans, K. Tripp, P. Miller, and B. Miller, all players who came in as highly prized recruits—the Georgia program has wasted talent. I don’t say this to bash or criticize the program, but it’s upsetting to have witnessed R. Sammuel make absolutely no improvements from his first year to the his second at RB–only to be benched mid year by coaches. My question to the coaching staff is why it took them nearly half the season to see that R. Samuel was not, at the moment, a productive SEC back? I pull this question out to deflect the majority of the blame about Samuel’s performance on the coaching staff and Mark Richt.
Now, as far as moving to LB, i have an interesting take on this: we can all agree that he is first-rate athlete with great speed, but for R. Samuel to reach his potential, regardless of where he plays on the field, he has to put on bulk, desirably around 240-245 by the start of fall. Ultimately, i like R. Samuel playing as a strong R. McClain-like ILB, but lets all pause for a second and imagine a 6′2 245 RB who runs like a horse. If its one thing we can give him credit for is that Samuel is a ruthless runner who always finishes his runs. I wonder how that added size, along side two years at the position, help with play at RB–just a thought! Either way, a bigger and stronger R. Samuel–wherever he plays is a better R. Samuel.

I’ll be breaking down the offense in the coming days so i hope to bounce some ideas around with you guys (and gals) pretty soon.

Hey BuLLdawg,

Ever heard of the phrase, If youre not part of the solution then youre part of the problem?? That applies here to you my friend.

You give us all of these reasons why CMR and his staff should be fired, but you don’t fire someone just to fire them. Tell me who YOU would hire if you canned Richt??

Unless you hire somebody Sabanesque, i’m just not interested.

This program is at the cusp of greatness w/ Richt at the helm. Sure he’ll have his peaks and valleys, but to average 9 + wins a season over the past decade in the SEC is phenomanal in today’s age. That’s also the problem though. He’s becoming a victim of his own success and since he’s been the HC, Miles, Myer and Saban all have MNCs.

I say we keep him around until he wants to leave(or of course the level of play falls way off), and sooner or later UGA will win a NC.

I Know Georgia Football……..Another very interesting post. Regarding Richard Samuel, I agree, A waste of talent at best. Dude is a train that I would agree would be pretty stout carrying the ball at 245lbs, however I do remember when we were recuiting him, his HS coach told the story that during several games, game officials asked the coach to get Samuel to lighten up on his hits. I always thought due to his hight if he were to beef up some[ as you suggested] he could be a monster LB……mabe all america calibre……But still I dont think it is too late, he played LB in HS and I think the kid has that killer instinct, that would fit in nicely with what coach Grantham has in mind……..Again my sleeper for 2010 is Kwamee Gathers, did you read the same info I did about his stellar play while red shirtihg ? ……Also IKGF…..I go by RED DOG…… Am an old man that never embraced the ” DAWG’ term……mabe a purist, mabe just old….but, at any rate….I have really gotten a kick out of your ” edge” and your take on our GEORGIA BULLDOGS, Keep up the great work, brother, hope to see more reality from you soon…Regards, RED

Why do people say stuff about my age when I’m a much more knowledgeable and dedicated fan than they? Just because I’m sixteen years old does not mean I do not know as much and I am apparently already more mature than you. As for BuLLdawg, ever heard of an eternal pessimist? Yeah, that’s you. Optimism plays a large role in what Mark Fox is accomplishing.

15 times Andy Landers has beat Pat Summitt. No coach has done better against Pat Summitt than Andy Landers.

18 times the 2 teams have met with both teams ranked in the Top 10 in the Nation. The vols beat Andy Landers for the National Championship Game in 1996.

53-50, as Andy Landers teaches Defense.

Vincent J. Dooley, as UGA Athletics Director, hired Andy Landers as UGA Lady Bulldogs’ Head Women’s Basketball Coach April 1979.

26 NCAA Tournaments for UGA’s Andy Landers is 2nd Best in The Nation, including 5 Final 4 for Andy Landers.

25 Wins a season and this is the 29th Season at UGA for Andy Landers, who is now over 800 Wins in his Career and already named to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.

He Graduates ALL of his Players. All.

19 of his former players have played in the WNBA.

429 weeks Andy Landers has been Ranked in the AP Poll, which is 3rd Best in the Nation.

And, tonight Andy Landers beat Pat Summitt for the 15th time head-to-head.

Runner-Up in 1985 and 1996, the 5 Final 4s, 10 Elite 8s, and 16 Sweet 16s, Andy Landers has been ultra successful as a motivator and as a recruiter, along with his main prowess of teaching Defense.

Only 3 teams have done better since 1979 than Andy Landers’ teams, taking the Final AP Poll Rankings and comparing them across all teams.

11 SEC Championships or SEC Tournament Championships for Andy Landers at UGA, and that is 2nd Best in The SEC, the Nation’s Premier Women’s Basketball Conference forever – like Football.

Janet Harris, 4-Time Consensus All-America.

Teresa Edwards won her 1st Gold Medal in 1984, and is the 1st Woman or Man to compete in 5 Olympics in Basketball. Teresa Edwards Won her 4th Gold Medal in 2000.

Katrina McClain competed in 3 Olympics with Teresa Edwards winning the Gold Medal in 1988 and 1996 together as the Backbone of the U.S. Olympics Team.

Recently the vols have had Superior Basketball Teams under Pat Summitt, but the games were not decided until the final basket really ever in the history between Andy Landers and Pat Summitt.

National Coach of the Year 4 times, Andy Landers is a lot of fun to watch coach.

31 All-America UGA Players Andy Landers recruited here.

57 All-SEC Academic Honor Roll, Andy Landers’ Student-Athletes are much better than Georgia tek’s in the classroom, and always have been. These 57 All-SEC Academic Honor Roll players for Andy Landers are in fact his 57 Best Players.

They all Graduate.

Andy Landers so far this year has beat Georgia tek again (he’s Never Lost them in Athens), Oklahoma, Rutgers, Virginia, Kentucky and Pat Summitt’s Tennessee Lady vols, and all 6 of them are Top 25 teams.

He will play another 10 Top 25 teams before the end of the season, and 4 of those are coming up now against 4 Ranked SEC Teams.

We don’t have the typical Andy Landers’ Guards this season, but they are a terror on Defense and push the ball underneath very well to The Bigs. They just can’t hit the broad side of a barn.

His inside players however, have been stellar. Ask the vols, who had lost only 1 game all season long and were Ranked Number 3. Andy Landers was Number 8. Those 2 will change places after tonight.

When Jasmine James makes a basket or Ashley Houts, Andy Landers will have a team like his teams of the past and we shall make a run through The NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament yet again this season.

Porsa Phillips and Angel Robinson make a great duo underneath for Andy Landers. Meredith Mitchell is a complete player. They all 5 play Defense as well as any Andy Landers has ever taught. It is really all he teaches. They get it. Tonight, for example, we forced the vols into 23 turnovers, none more crucial than their last.

53-50.

Andy Landers’ Lady Bulldogs and Pat Summitt’s Lady vols are The Class of The SEC.

The Win tonight was in HDTV on ESPN2, the host of the NCAA Women’s Tournament. The SEC Tournament this year is at Gwinnett Arena in Duluth Georgia.

Tennessee and Georgia both could be Number 1 Seeds.

The SEC expects at this point to put 7 SEC Teams in The NCAA Tournament, with only 5 SEC teams not making the Big Dance while the Big East expects to have 8 who will not make the Big Dance.

Notre Dame, you should note, does Consider Itself in the Big East Conference. The BCS gives them a bye playing their soft lousy easy schedules in football, but has changed the rules to favor Notre Dame alone.

It would mean so much to The Lady Dawgs if we would get off our butts and build a replacement for The Stegosaurus.

Playing at Stegeman tonight, Andy Landers on the season, is now 18-1.
