Unranked in final polls for first time since . . .

So how long had it been since Georgia ended the season unranked in either the Associated Press or coaches’ final poll, as happened today?

The last time it happened was . . . 1996.

This season, victories over Georgia Tech in the regular-season finale and Texas A&M in the Independence Bowl did not catapult the Dogs into the Top 25 of  the final AP or coaches’ polls, which were released this morning.

The last time Georgia was unranked in either final poll was Jim Donnan’s first season as coach, when the Dogs went 5-6 in ‘96.

Since then, Georgia had been ranked in the final AP poll every year and in the final coaches’ poll every year except one (the exception being 2006, when the Dogs were unranked in the final coaches’ poll but 23rd in the final AP poll).

Before this season, Georgia had been ranked in the top 10 of the final coaches’ poll six of the previous seven seasons.

In today’s rankings, the Dogs were in the “also receiving votes” category of both polls. They received seven points in the AP balloting, ranking 33rd, and 13 points in the coaches’ poll, ranking 32nd. Georgia finished the season with an 8-5 record.

I don’t like to hear Donnans name. I still have nightmares about him and Ray Goff. Whats this Texas Tech stuff with Kirby? I heard he’d planned a trip to Athens to look at houses.

I'm A DC

Lets see now. I am a really good proven college DC. Florida wants to talk to me and UGA does too and AL just lost their DC to Texas Tech. Now where am I most likely to be successfull. Hummm I’ve got to think about this. This is a hard one.

Time to put the 2009 season behind us and look positively on 2010. Congrats to Alabama for representing the SEC well and proving to the non-believers that the SEC is in fact the best conference in the nation.

GA Tech Lies & Cheats & Everyone knows it. Attention recruits: Don’t go to school at GA Tech. If you do, it will be one of the biggest mistakes you could make in your life. Any other school besides GA Tech will be a better choice.

You’re right this hurts to be ranked with the program which UGA runs. We definitely had a down year. On the bright side, we have a tremendous amount of talent coming back, a new DC on the way, we beat the ACC champions, we won our bowl game…… DAWGS will be better next year! Put that in your pipe and smoke it……

ESPN Hates Georgia

ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit makes up an all uni-team all-start every year.

You have to go to the bottom of the page to see it, but notice, his all-start team has 0 georgia players, not Curran, not AJ Green.

Keep in mind, Georgia has more players in the NFL than ANY other team.

Does GA Tech’s QB have the biggest lips in all the history of college football or what? It is ridicilious how big his lips are, suprised he can get them under a helpmet and they fit so well on UGA’s butt this year after that thumping the dawgs handed him.

Anti-Georgia ESPN Bias

January 8th, 2010
2:37 pm

The ESPN Biased reporting, affects the ref’s perception of Georgia.

Georgia has SUDDENLY become one of the most penalized teams in football and Florida suddenly only half as many penalties?

The whole SEC Ref team who called the Georgia LSU game had to be suspended.

Talk about bias.

As some people have noted things definitely would have shaped up differently with a must win Kentucky game, LSU blunder and even Ok. St. Give me two out of those three and our fan base is more than satisfied. Also, I think if you give Joe Cox one more year he would have done great things!

But, but, but, we beat Ga Tech this year, that means we should be ranked. Blah blah blah

Polls don’t matter anyway (when we’re not ranked), but when we are preseason no 1, they mean alot!! If we can keep all the boys out of jail over the summer we should be preseason no. 1 again next year…

You can’t tell me that this Georgia team could not beat a number of the teams in this top 25, however the polls are not about who is better …

I am ticked, as an alumni, contributer and season ticket holder that our brand of play was this poor. Thought about that the entire time I watched the SEC Championship, Sugar Bowl and National Championship. I would say Richt needs to take stock. UGA does not have to win every week, but there is no excuse for not having a top 25 ranking EVERY year and there should be no team in the SEC or country that runs us off the field by some of the margins we’ve seen. Where did we lose the Junkyard Dawg defense? I am a fan of Coach Richt’s but enough is enough …

Saban’s mindless beginning, in the BCS Championship game, would probably have not been forgotten if McCoy had not been injured. Was he so confident to believe he could easily take control of the game. His tricks and gambles remind me of Miles. What a horrible thought!
