(UPDATED 11:55 A.M. and 6:30 P.M.)
A few quick notes:
– So it has been a pretty good five weeks or so for UGA sports fans -– wins over Georgia Tech in football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball, and a bowl blowout of Texas A&M.
– The enduring sounds of rivalry: the “Just Like Football” chant late in Georgia’s basketball victory over Tech last night and the “I Run This State” play-on-words from the football victory.
– OK, here’s the latest word from Kirby Smart. Reporting from Newport Beach, Calif., where Alabama is preparing for tomorrow night’s BCS national-title game, ESPN’s Chris Low says Smart didn’t completely shut the door on the UGA defensive-coordinator job Tuesday. Here’s what Smart, Alabama’s DC and a former Georgia player, said at a BCS media session:
“I haven’t really talked to Mark [Richt] much. To say I said ‘no’ to Mark … he’s not offered me anything. So that’s not really accurate. To be honest, with this game coming up, I haven’t even thought about it.
“. . . You don’t ever know what’s going to happen, but I’m certainly excited about the opportunity to be back at Alabama. We’ve got a lot of good players coming back.”
Feel free to parse those words below.
– Assuming there must be a reason –- other than the decisions by Bud Foster and John Chavis to stay put -– that the UGA defensive-coordinator search is taking so long, the best guess is that it’s because Mark Richt is interested in someone still occupied by an important game. That could, of course, be the UGA alums occupied as defensive coordinators in the BCS national-title game, or it could be an NFL assistant in the playoffs. Which brings us to Todd Grantham, the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive-line coach who has been on Richt’s radar for weeks and seemed to move up on the rumor mill yesterday. UPDATE: The Dallas Morning News’ Cowboys Blog reports today that Grantham “has been approached” by Georgia. Grantham’s resume in brief: He was an assistant at Virginia Tech and Michigan State in the 1990s and with four NFL teams (Colts, Texans, Browns and Cowboys) since 1999. His only stint as a defensive coordinator was with the Browns from 2005-07.
– A couple of items from the transactions list if you missed ‘em: The University of Louisville hired former UGA football assistant coach Jon Fabris as its defensive-line coach. Fabris was one of three defensive coaches fired by UGA on Dec. 2. He joins the staff of new Louisville coach Charlie Strong, the former Florida defensive coordinator. . . . And the Utah Jazz signed former Bulldog Sundiata Gaines to a 10-day contract, pending a physical. Gaines has been playing for the Idaho Stampede of the NBA Developmental League.
– Georgia’s women’s basketball team has a chance to make some history Thursday night. A win over Kentucky at Stegeman Coliseum would give the Lady Dogs a 15-0 record, which would be the best start in the esteemed program’s history.
– Reshad Jones said Tuesday that he hears he’s one of the top five safeties in the 2010 NFL draft and that he hopes to be in the top two by draft day. The top one, of course, is Tennessee junior Eric Berry.
– Jones is the 17th UGA underclassman to enter the NFL draft since 2001. Waiting on word from the prospective 18th, junior linebacker Rennie Curran. . . .
And please follow me on Twitter for the latest UGA news and notes.

The loss dropped Tech to 11-3, kept it from reaching 12 wins for the first time since 1952, and extended its losing streak in bowl games to five. It also will knock the Yellow Jackets out of the top 10 in the final AP poll……Life is good…

I called the win by IOWA, even though I like to see GT do well in bowls. Come play in the SEC, get a taste of what real defenses are about, week in and week out. ACC is not up to par, just a fact.

Admittedly the following story is off topic, but interesting nonetheless. I haven’t heard much from Lane Kiffin’s mouth since he was trying to spin the Vols embarrassment to Va Tech., hostessgate, and the UT quick-course on ‘personal. rapid redeployment of assets’ taught by NuKeese and the UT FB family (AKA armed robbery), so I was pleasantly surprised at this discussion from no less than the Vols website. http://www.govolsxtra.com/news/2010/jan/05/vinson-i-just-want-truth-be-said/
Turns out Al Davis was on to something when he characterized the boy genius as a congenital liar. Seems Coach Lippin made a promise to a certain DB in private but ‘changed hi mind’ in the press then denied it when the dismissed player called him out…..Gawd you can’t write this stuff…after all orange is the new stripes, right?

If you look at Kirby’s comments carefully, you’ll see Kirby Smart is coming to Georgia folks.
Kirby Smart:
“I haven’t really talked to Mark [Richt] much. To say I said ‘no’ to Mark … he’s not offered me anything. So that’s not really accurate. To be honest, with this game coming up, I haven’t even thought about it.
Translation:
I have talked to Coach Richt a few times. I told Mark “Yes, hypothetically speaking, if you make me an offer, I’ll accept it.” And then I asked Mark Richt to not make me a formal offer until after the Bowl game so I could honestly say ‘He’s not offered me anything’. My focus is on winning the Natl Champ, so I can max out my salary at UGA.
Kirby Smart:
“You don’t ever know what’s going to happen, but I’m certainly excited about the opportunity to be back at Alabama. We’ve got a lot of good players coming back.”
Translation:
“If Richt puts in writing what we’ve talked about verbally, then yes, I’m coming to Georgia, it’s just too good of an offer to turn down. If Richt doesn’t, Bama will offer me a raise and I’ll be fine there too”

The thing that makes Tech offense hard to stop is the (normally 4 days) lack of time to prepare for it. Not to many teams run that offense, so when you spend your season preparing for spread and pro type offenses it throws a wrench when you have to prepare for Tech’s.
The problem for Tech is that when you have 3+ weeks to prepare for that offense, it is simply shut down. In order to eventually compete for MNCs CPJ is going to have to adjust and figure out how to win in January when the other team has 3+ weeks of prep….

Georgia has PLENTY of money, Richt rakes in about $90 mill a year for the school, bout $43 mill profit according to Forbes. It’s time for Evan to invest in the future of Georgia, and he will. This will be an amazing offer, with lots of incentives for Natl Champ’s and stat leadership, and long term loyalty.
Georgia ranked by Forbes #1 most valuable college football team in SEC, #3 overall:

We live in a democracy and free enterprise system. I don’t make that kind of money but I am not jealous of those that do. Supply and demand at work. As long as UGA can put 93K fannies in Stanford Stadium each Saturday we play then it sounds like a cheap investment to me. Remember, when you put that kind of people in a town how much revenue it generates and jobs it creates.

Reshad Jones was an average player at best who won’t go until the 4th round if he’s lucky. He’ll sign with a team and be cut right before the final roster is released for the season. One good game against Tech doesn’t make up for his inability to tackle. I’m looking forward to Ogeltree steeping into the safety position next year and bringing the wood like Sean Jones, Thomas Davis, and Greg Blue used to. Anyone see any hard hits this year from Jones…?

Boys I doubt Smart is coming to UGA. He’s the DC under one of the top coaches in all of football who has a penchant for leaving jobs. He stands to take over when Saban leaves or jump to a head coaching job after a little more tutelage under Saban. Assuming Smart has any aspirations beyond being a DC, then it makes no sense for him to leave, unless he feels he will learn more about offense from Richt which could then translate to more well rounded experience.
Prediction-Smart stays in land of Tide, UGA brings in a dynamic NFL up & comer to take the DC job.

Do we get Smart? I think there is a chance, I know we will make a run. But Damon gets to put his actions behind his words this time. We will see if UGA is serious about being a natl. title team.
BTW, anyone on here who doesn’t think Grantham can run the 4-3 doesn’t pay attention to football. Do you really think he can’t run the 4-3? Did anyone watch what the 3-4 bama team did to Fl? They ran a 4-3 at them.
What we are looking for in a dcord is:
Can he make adjustments on the fly
Does he understand what an offense is trying to do and the best way to attack it
Can he inspire his defense to play motivated mean ball for 60 minutes of game time
Can he be a top 15 guy in scoring defense year after year which is the most important factor in defense.

a: If the hard hits were personal fouls then they weren’t smart hits and that’s the problem with a player who isn’t smart enough to play within the rules. He had a good game against Tech with a QB who wouldn’t even be third string in the SEC. Another year in college would do him wonders but he can’t resist what he THINKS will be a big pile of cash waiting on him in the NFL. Whoever the next DC is, Jones would have nowhere to go but up, period.

The Smart contract was finalized on the weekend of December 11. Richt has been through this before. He was announced as our head coach right before FSU was playing Oklahoma for the NC and his mind wasn’t in it and instead of scoring their average 30 points a game they scored 2. He has been trying to deflect the attention away from Smart and throw up smokescreens, i.e. Chavis, Foster and Koenning, but the deal has been made. We have our guy and soon we will see if he really is the man or if he is just a product of being in the right place at the right time-Bama

If that scenario plays out, UGA will have plenty of traction with stud recruits in 2012/13 and 14 making the successor’s job better and with Mark’s over all record by then, a wonderful coach and an even finer gent.

Gees . My sources tell me CMR is waiting on the Patriots season to end so he can make a formal offer to Bill Belichick . CMR is just using Kirby Smart as a smokescreen . You know it is possible that there is no ” between the lines ” to read into . It would be much easier to become a HC under Saban than it would under CMR . If being coy gets him a raise good for him . Or maybe he means what he says .
As far as the game last night goes , 4 yards passing & a couple of picks isn’t going to cut it . Joe Cox would have been an improvement . I like the triple option but without fear of a passing game its really not overly effective . Tech needs a Dee Dowis type . Yes I’m that old. Josh Nesbit reminds me of a poor mans Jamarcus Russell . Thats not a complement .

I dont know why any receiver or regular QB would want to go to tech. Name an option QB that made it in the NFL…..One of the best ever was Tommy Frazier and where is he today? As I have said before: The chances that you are misinterpreting somebodies soundbyte by guessing or interjecting is vastly greater than simple going with the easiest explaination. He meant exactly what he said.
He is a defensive coach and we are obviously looking to hire one, so its silly for him to act shocked about the question. He knows Mark Richt and of cource they both can form words, so they have “spoken”. But it’s a waste of time to get him to talk about an offer that has not been made, or at least not officially. But you never say never.

Get over it Dawg fans, Kirby is not gonna leave ALA for UGA. Why would he? He about to play in a national championship on a team that’s alot better UGA. We all know that he played for them, but why would he want to come back. UGA hasn’t been a serious national title contender since they won it in 1980, which for all you math geniuses out there, is 30 years. That’s a real long time. Plus if he leaves, then he might not get to coach in a NC again as well as using up his “Athens is my home” card. If it doesn’t work out in Athens, then he’s got nowhere to go but down. Why leave one DC job for another unless your job security is in jeopardy. Normally DC leave a good situation to be a head coach. All I’m saying is Kirby would be Smart to stay where he’s at.

DrDawg:
The point about switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4 is that you can’t always switch defenses like that overnight in the college game if you don’t currently have the personnel because you don’t have the flexibility to change your personnel in college as quickly as you can in the pros with free agent signings and the ability to cut players. Even if you could sign players in a recruiting class for a 3-4 (probably too late to do that for this recruiting class), it’ll take you a couple of years just for players that are signed to gain some experience before you can reasonably expect them to play in a conference like the SEC, especially on the DL. On the other hand, you’ll see that many defenses are multiple in that they interchangeably play 4 or 3 man lines, depending on the situation, but usually 3 man lines for teams that don’t primarily play a 3-4 are used for passing downs where you can drop 8 into pass coverage. Not having the personnel to run a 3-4 as a base defense is a legitimate concern for any team deciding what defensive scheme(s) to use……

The guy is not going to say he is staying at Bama for sure. How the hell do you get a raise by saying that? On the other hand he did say that all he ever wanted to be was a DC. Not really interested in an HC job at this time. He if did get the jack to come to Athens he would be in an ideal position to 1) be a DC for as long as wants, provided that the success was there 2) make the money and 3) learn everything he needs to be an HC if he ever aspired to become one. Not a far fetched senario. On the flip side he is in a good position right now. I guess we’ll have an answer next week.

W/O the running threat at QB, defenses can scheme differently with blitzes and what not. As far as our QB is concerned, be it Murray or Mettenberger, he will have an established running game, two stud TEs, AJ, King, Gray(maybe),Marlon, and possibly DaRick. Also we get a warm up game this year before the SC game.

‘Bama 1 – counting your chickens? Texas isn’t going to roll over and let you win. If your team has that same attitude (And I don’t think Saban would let them), then Bama is in trouble. History shows us that the underdog generally wins in these games (Florida ‘06, Ohio State ‘02, Texas ‘04?).
Optimistic Dawg – don’t forget about Kris Durham. He should be back from injury. I agree with you that whoever is at QB next year for us will have a ton of talent around him. For us to get back in the SEC title picture again, it’s not the offense that has to improve, it’s the defense. If the offense is as productive this year as last and we shave 10-15 points allowed per game off our average then I think we have a good chance of winning a lot of games next year.

I cannot believe everyone thinks that Kirby Smart is the answer. He needs more time to develop as a Defensive Coordinator. As a former Dawg, I would love to see one of our own come back to be a DC or Head Coach. I am just not convinced that this would be the right move for the program. If he comes in and things do not improve or get worse, then he is going to get fired. And then he has no alma mater to come back to. Even though I am not a Saban fan, he can do a great job of tutoring Smart.

I think if he is offered and does decide to come back to Athens he would have a hugh impact on the team, recruiting, the fan base and Georgia’s desire to get back into the National spotlight.

Georgia and Alabama starts a bidding war for Kirby’s service shortly after Alabama wins it’s 13rd NC. The bidding price eventually reaches 43million US$ (the profit UGA makes from their football operation). At that price point, Alabama realizes that’s too much for an assistant coach and gives up the bidding.
So UGA grabs Kirby with an annual salary of 43million US$. He is the DC in 2010 for UGA. But to the dismay of UGA fans, UGA’s defense in 2010 is still next to last in the SEC East. As to Alabama, the defense is still rock solid just like Kirby hasn’t left.
At the end of 2010 season, UGA fans call for Kirby’s head, claiming Kirby still works for Alabama while getting paid by UGA. They insist UGA’s defense should be among the best and Alabama’s the worst because of Kirby’s switch. Since Alabama is still good, it must be Kirby still works for Alabama.
In the mean time, a Tech fan is also very perplexed by the situation. He comes up with a very complex mathematical formula which take days to finish computing on a super computer. The printout of the computing results shocks the Tech fan: Kirby Smart has nothing to do with good defense. That’s the first line of the printout. The 2nd line is about Nick Saban.
Since the Tech fan is a Dawg hater. He does not reveal to anybody his computing results.
UGA still pays Kirby 43million US$ in 2011.

No one will believe me because the internet isn’t the bastion of creating credibilty annonmously but I DO know both Kirby and his wife and he has said, going back to this time last year, that he wouldn’t go to UGA as DC under Richt. His coaching philosphies are much different than Richt’s laid back approach. Not saying he won’t come to Athens BUT those were his words not mine. Worst part is he also said, again this part was back in August, that if Urban Meyer called to be his DC he would have a hard time saying no. I HOPE he ends up in Athens but if he stays in Tuscaloosa or ends up in god forbid Gainesville don’t be shocked. The longer UF and UGA put off naming a DC I would put a good bit of donuts on it saying he ends up in one or the other.

There’s no way they’d bring that pathetic 3-4 defense back to Athens after it completely destroyed the program in the 90’s. It should be banned completely! Total garbage.

Yes He Did. Unfortunately in 2002 Daddy beat his Dawgs and kept them out of the Title Game and in 2007 Tennessee won the East in a tiebreaker because they beat, sorry killed UGA that year and the Dawgies obviously didn’t play in the SEC Title game that year. You are going to have to play in that game and win it to have a National Championship year.

Flash…The University of Georgia will hire a Defensive Coordinator in time to influence final recruiting decisions…he will be well-qualified and he will preside over a defense that will be an asset to Georgia’s program for years to come. That’s a fact, Jack! So cool your jets boys, we will be improved and we will be proud.
Tech, on the other hand, has negotiated with MARTA to store all those extra carts they threw together for their bandwagon…looks as if they won’t be needin’ ‘em – certainly didn’t in Miami – just where were all those Techies? Must have gotten lost in South Beach…or Buckhead.

To quote: “PLEASE, UGA does not need Kirby.
Nick Satan is calling all of the shots at Alabamastand.”
Anybody wonder why KS might consider leaving Alabama, with that kind of sentiment running through the blogsphere? No matter what he does over there, Saban will get the credit for it.
Anybody think the next DC at UGA might get some credit, if/when they turn the defense around in Athens? Duh.
And, the simple fact that UGA is KS’ alma mater. It’s a bond that’s difficult to overestimate, or to explain if you haven’t experienced it.
It’s the thing that keeps some people on these blogs arguing ’til their fingers are bloody when they could most likely (me included) be doing something a lot more productive (btw, it’s not likely that Mark Richt is pouring over these posts for guidance in his DC search — it’s just us having fun talking sports).
I haven’t spoken to either Kirby or Mark lately so I can’t tell you I KNOW absolutely what’s going to happen. But, I’ll say this. UGA’s got two defensive coaches playing for the national championship. That says something. Maybe some folks on here don’t think Kirby Smart’s that smart on the D side of the ball. But, that’s what makes horse races, and football games. As for me, I think it would be a great hire and a great match.
And look what it would say to recruits about the comparative “levels” of UGA and AL football.
Oh, and I forgot… there’s not Varsity in Tuscaloosa.

Great post.
The triple option is a gimmick offense.
These first two years of it at Tech has been aided by just what you said…it is unusual to teams preparing for more routine offenses.
In the ACC, it will work longer because schools are not attracting the same caliber athelete as the SEC.
They get some good players, but not in the numbers the SEC does.
This offense’s long term success against conference opponents requires high quality atheletes at skill positions.
Critical to the success is a QB that can both run and pass effectively.
Of course, if you have that…you can win with any offense.

I am so disappointed. GA tek is the US News and World Report Number 35 National University in the nation, and UGA is Number 58, both Elite Schools world renowned and respected all over the world; I know; I’ve been there and done that. I am so disappointed with my UGA BBA degree.
I am so disappointed. GA tek have a worse Academic Progress Rate in football APR than UGA in football APR. We barely have any advantage over GA tek at all, the difference is negligible and not even noticeable under Coach Richt with a Pro set. UGA has only won 8 of his 9 games and won 2 Major Bowls BCS Bowl wins along with 7 Bowl Wins in 9 years, with 90 Wins and 27 Losses in The SEC, not some insignificant meaningless worthless America’s Cupcake Conference ACC, where their hasn’t been a top-ranked team in years and will not be again this year obviously. UGA has 26 Bowl Wins now while GA tek has only lost their last 5 Bowl Games in a Row. I mean it’s so close between UGA and GA tek, with both being to bowl games 13 years in a row. Too bad that UGA has such a small advantage if any at 11 Wins to GA tek only having won 5 of the 13 bowl games both UGA and GA tek have been to in a row. I mean GA tek hasn’t done poorly in Major Bowls; GA tek last won a Major Bowl back in 1955. Some of GA tek’s fans in here posting were probably alive 55 years ago. It doesn’t matter that UGA had been to 8 Major Bowls since GA tek last went to one. It doesn’t matter that Coach Richt has won 2 of his 3 BCS Bowl Games. 24-30 is not a destroying of GA tek by UGA. 60 wins over 1 team only 3 other teams have accomplished, ever. That’s not important; it’s very razor thin close between the 2 schools. So what if 1 school has 30 percent of their enrollment Asian men and only 29 percent of GA tek’s enrollment is women from anywhere. It’s a college where kids go to school and share being there with just other little boys, or Asians. That’s not different from UGA. Neither is it bad that the reclaiming of the slums on the borders of GA tek’s campus has failed and now major anchors such as Publix have closed. I mean it’s not like the GA tek little boys are being preyed upon behind their locked doors while they study and being robbed on the streets as soon as they venture outside a very small campus. Who cares that GA tek is Number 48 in attendance while only 5 other in all the nation have more attendance than UGA ? Who cares that GA tek is Number 35 in football recruiting to UGA always in the Top 7 ? That’s not much of a difference. So what if only 3 football players in all of America want to play offense with Paul Johnson for next year’s recruiting class ? Who cares if GA tek never has won a Heisman Trophy ? Who cares if GA tek has never won a single solitary AP Poll National Championship ? Who cares if GA tek has had 7 seasons where GA tek did not win a single solitary football game ? That’s just not important, either. It’s real close between the 2 in football, obviously. It doesn’t matter that 6 of the games GA tek played this year were against hapless zero teams not 1 of the 6 who even play in one of the 70 slots for 35 bowl games. All that matters is how many they won, never mind 6 real opponents would have added 6 losses, instead. Josh Nesbitt for Heisman Trophy GA tek never has won one of, never mind his passes are wounded ducks and cost him the game against Miami, the game against UGA and the game against Iowa. He beat the 6 non-bowl teams, and that is all that matters. He is great. Josh Nesbitt for Heisman GA tek has never won. Who cares that Paul Johnson came to GA tek with a losing bowl record and now hasn’t beat anyone in any bowl game. That’s just not relevant. And, this stuff about Paul Johnson telling GA tek fans to hit UGA fans in the face; that was all a joke. He thinks that is funny. And, who cares that UGA’s APR is far better than GA tek’s thugs in football ? I am so disappointed.
I am so disappointed. UGA men’s basketball only beat GA tek by 73-66 for every game since 1976 in Athens. I mean we only beat GA tek at their little piece of crap poorly designed Bobby Cremins Court, they named for a coach they ran out of this town on a rail, last decade in 2000. Who cares ? It doesn’t matter. Who cares that GA tek’s thugs are in the CRIME REPORTS daily such as Stephon Marbury and Javarius Crittenton. This is who plays basketball at GA tek nowadays. It’s so sad that thugs like that do so well against UGA that it has been since 1976 they beat us at our house, while we beat them at their house as well last in 2000. The NCAA ruled that GA tek has an APR of 914, the lowest in the nation under Paul Hewitt, who has a losing record against UGA at 4-6, not explained by home court. Now is it. The NCAA has put GA tek today on NCAA PROBATION and limited Paul Hewitt to only 11 scholarships. I mean it is so close between UGA and GA tek, you wouldn’t even notice the difference.
I am so disappointed. UGA women’s basketball has never lost a game in Athens to GA tek. Not ever. 56-50 this year, after beating GA tek at GA tek last year, to see MaChelle Joseph refuse to shake Andy Landers’s hand after the GA tek loss last season. I am so disappointed that the UGA women also have a better APR than the GA tek women do.
That was not a bad day for GA tek yesterday. Who cares ? GA tek fans are not disappointed.

The one thing UGA can offer smart that Alabama can’t is the ability to say he is our Defensive Coordinator, he calls the plays, he maps out what the defense is going to do at practice, he is the defense. As long as he is at alabama people will question whether Smart is the reason the defense is good or Saban is.
Also, I’m not so sure Saban would want to keep Smart so bad that he would outbid UGA. Saban has a big ego and probably thinks that he is the reason the defense is so good and he can get someone cheaper to do just as good of a job. Less money for the assistants means there is more money free to give him a raise. Personally, I kind of wonder if people are overinflating Smart. I think he would be a good pick up for georgia, but I see him as a young coach that has learned from one of the best.

I also believe that Coach Saban laid down the law that absolutely no negotiations until after the NC game.
I also like the Air Force guy Tim DeRuyter, wonder if he would come be LB Coach working with Kirby as DC.
Two keys to getting Kirby:
Alabama must win the NC game, if they lose I believe he will stay.
The biggest Trump Card we UGA fans have is Kirby’s wife Mary Beth, she will make the push to come home. ( kind of like riding a horse, it’s all good but as soon as you turn that horse around and head back to the barn……what a ride that is!)

It is obvious that Kirby Smart was being intentionally vague. How hard would it have been to just say, “I’ll definitely be back at Alabama next year.”
This means one of two things:
1. Most likely he’s hoping to parlay the doubt into a fat raise at Bama.
2. Or he is seriously interested in entertaining offers from elsewhere.
The arguments about whether he would be better off professionally by staying at Bama are moving to UGA are moot. Either way, he would be a DC at a major college program with national exposure. If successful at either school, he would be top head coaching candidate down the road. If he does end up at Georgia, there will be obvious rea$on$ that he made the choice.

Smart would come to GA only if he is the HC in waiting. He can get just as much $ at Bama.

Reminder to all: As you will recall Coach Mark Richt said and I quote ‘ We will get something done after the bowl season and NFL season is over’ He was by the way, speaking of the hiring of a new DC…….Just relax my fine BULLDOG FAITHFUL, I think CMR has learned a tremendous amount over the last few years…..He has a lot of clout at UGA having won 90 games in 9 years, he also remembers the good ol days when coach Van Gorder took care of business on the D side of the ball. I suspect CMR has authority to spend pretty much what he wants to to bring in a winner, and that is exactly what he intends to do. Dont let the foolhardy blogsters, or the so called journalists wind you up, because that is exactly what they want to do….. go have some fun rent a movie play some ice hockey, walk the dog….but whatever you do relax, we will have a winner soon….I hope

ACC 3-4 in Bowl Games this year. 5 ACC teams did not make a bowl; 2 SEC didn’t (GA tek played them both.)
ACC 4-5 against The SEC all season, including the bowl games. FL beat FSU. So Car beat NC State and Climpsum Farmers. Alabama beat Virginia Tech. And, excuse me too, UGA beat GA tek 30-24 at their house.
Last year, the top ACC in Final AP Poll was Number 15, and 2 years before that, the top-ranked ACC team was Number 18 in the AP Poll. For 6 years now in a row the average AP Poll ranking for the BEST ACC team is Number 12. That’s 4 teams worse than an 8-team play-off format.
GA tek played 6 teams that did not even make a bowl game. No team in America played that many in 1 year.
It has been since President Dwight Eisenhower Ike was President that GA tek last won a Major Bowl Game. ACC is a lousy football conference.
The high school offense got 7 points last night.
7.
Now, I’ve heard it all. The ACC is good because it LOST to the Big 10 second best team.
There is only 1 team that might move up 1 place in the polls, and that would be Virginia Tech getting higher ranked than GA tek.
CHUMPS.
13 consecutive years both UGA and GA tek have been to a bowl game. UGA won 11 of those; GA tek 5.
5.
8 of last 9 and 15 of last 19 to have 60 wins by UGA over GA tek.
GA tek made Iowa look good. 7 points on Offense; what a total joke. Iowa gave up MORE to Northern Iowa, Arizona, Arkansas State, Indiana, and Northwestern to name but 5 really sorry teams – really sorry teams.
If GA tek had not played 6 teams who were not even in a bowl game, they lose those games. The ACC isn’t any good.
24-30 football.
66-73 men’s basketball.
50-56 women’s basketball.
GA tek fans, their coaches and their players, are POOR SPORTS.
You can clean up a pig, put a ribbon on its tail, spray it with perfume, but it’s still just a pig.

Why are yall fallin all over yourselves over Kirby Smart? Many pundits say the Bama D is Saban’s doing, not Smart’s. Far as that goes, how different was the Dawgs’ D for the GT game (with CWM) and the bowl game (without CWM)? Just calm the heck down; CMR will make the decision when he makes the decision. And, I trust him to make a great hire.
Best wishes to Reshad. For those of you getting down on him, the pros must think well of him, seeing as how he’s leaving early because of the draft board’s projection. One bad play; sheesh.

I’d take anyone that is aggressive – If Grantham helps divert attention away from Smart so he can coach his NC game, that would be fine. UGA should take a final stab at him – but then again Grantham could be a good choice in his own right. You can’t hold the Browns against a coach!! Chizik has done better at Auburn than he did at ISU, so I won’t that logic ruin my thoughts of Grantham.

Hey Nerd Central at North Avenue, your pesky Jackets got completely embarrassed on Tuesday night against Iowa, and your triple option showed it’s lack of effectiveness against an old man defensive coordinator. The Jackets’ first half total yardage was pitiful, and just because y’all beat the Dawgs in football in 2008 doesn’t mean s**t! Georgia had no business pounding y’all on the flats in 2009, but Tech’s lack of focus and looking ahead to the ACC (Almost Competitve Conference)Championship Game made them look like fools. Josh Nesbitt was so bad on Tuesday, and y’all are crazy for actually thinking that he is a Heisman Trophy canidate in 2010. He looks like he is 65 years old, and I’m here to tell you that the Jackets could never compete in the SEC. If GT beats UGA once every decade, I can live with that.

To the guy who said Cox stinks, we could’ve had Nesbitt. Yes your right Cox did stink, but replacing with a career 45 percent completion rate and 13 to 12 TD to INT ratio wouldn’t have been any better. For the record UGA did offer Nesbitt, they just wanted him to play safety. You know the position he’s gonna have to play if he ever wants to be a pro.

Kirby Smart isn’t going to be UGa’s next DC, seriously. More than likely will be Texas Tech’s new head coach – his currency will be way up after the smack down on Texas tonight. Only way Smart comes to GA is if he doesn’t have the cojones to be a head man – why else leave Nick Satan – because he’s a bad man? Satan is in your face – and a program builder, and he wins Nat’l Championships, and has a good many former coaches as head men. Why go somewhere else to be DC after Bama’s Roll?! Makes no sense at all.
Tech – played softer schedule than SEC and benefited from excellent skill position players (for the option). Won’t seriously contend for Natl Titles until get more, better BIG UGLYS. Johnson’s biggest issues is that he’s overachieved his first two years. UGa’s line play is light year’s ahead of Tech’s (both had injuries … Tech much thinner).
So, who you gonna call?

General Sherman if you’re offended by high paychecks to people who hard then either find a different job that pays better than what you work now, or move to Venezuela.
Now on to Smart. It was announced tonight that he’ll be interviewing for the Texas Tech HC position. I think he just bumped UGA down to 3rd priority and he just got bumped off CMR’s radar because of it. He’s not going to wait until all of his candidates get the chance to turn him down. Smarts priorities just went to Texas Tech (1), Alabama buys him back (2), and UGA (3).
Don’t know if I like this but I’m thinking it’s going to be Grantham.

I here Tommy Tuberville is interviewing for the Tech job too. Smart is still a candidate. Also read an article out of an Alabama newspaper where Smart said he would like to be a HC one day, but not just anywhere. Not sure if Texas Tech is where he would want to be. He might want to wait until a higher profile job comes open.

What about going after Jim Leavitt? The guy is an animal and certainly could fire up our defense…of course he could stroke out too as much as he blows up.

Just read this on a Tech blog and I know this has been said a hundred times and probably doesn’t mean anything but it is funny how Tech is worried about UGA getting Smart…Go Dawgs!
From bbuzzoff.com – Kirby Smart, DC at Bama is going to UGA. I heard this from a fairly reliable source any one know the truth to it? He is a UGA alum and best friends with Bobo but why would you leave Bama for anything less than a HC job. I know they said last night that Texas Tech was interviewing him but from what I heard he is already set to be announced DC at UGAy. Hopefully this isn’t tru….
