Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart, whom many Georgia fans would love to see in the same job in Athens, made a rare appearance before the media today and said he is “looking forward” to being with the Crimson Tide again next season.
Smart, who like other Alabama assistant coaches is normally kept off-limits to the media by head coach Nick Saban, was made available at a news conference advancing Thursday’s BCS national championship game.
According to this Mobile Press-Register report from the news conference in southern California, Smart did not categorically deny interest in Georgia’s open defensive coordinator position, although that might have been because he wasn’t directly asked about it.
Here is some of what Smart did say at the press conference, according to the Press-Register:
“It’s been great. It’s been great having these players and doing this, and I’m looking forward to it next year. I mean, we’ve got a lot of good players coming back. We’re losing a lot of good ones too, but it’s something that’s special to be around, because these guys bought in and they went through some hard times. And now they’re reaping the benefits, which they deserve.”
On his head-coaching aspirations, he said:
“To be honest with you, I don’t ever think about it or worry about that. I think [longtime Florida State defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews] had a hell of a career. He’s a father figure to me. I worked for him for two years, and if I ended up coaching at Alabama for the next 30 years or however long he was at Florida State, I’d think my career was a pretty big success.
“My lifelong goal was to ultimately be a defensive coordinator, and if I ever got a chance at a head job, that would be great. But that’s not something that I’m going to draw my career and say I was a failure, I didn’t get to be a head coach or whatever. I’d be completely content with that. If a better opportunity presents itself, then obviously that’s something down the road. But young as I am, I’m happy to be where I’m at and happy to be at the University of Alabama.”
Since Georgia’s Dec. 2 firing of Willie Martinez, Smart — a former UGA player (1995-98) and assistant coach (2005) — has been at or near the top of just about every rumored list of defensive coordinators that Mark Richt would or should pursue. And if the Georgia job remains open after Thursday’s national-title game, perhaps that possibility would heat up. But to this point Smart still has given no indication he would leave Alabama for another coordinator’s job.

Just like the techesters to still be talking about last year’s score. It must suck to know that the two teams who played for the ACC championship got punked by two SEC teams that are down this year.
St Simons you’re still a loser.

“If a better opportunity presents itself, then obviously that’s something down the road”
To me, a better opportunity would be coaching at my alma mater.
Especially if I am named head coach in waiting. He should take
it under those circumstances (again just speculation) because
if, if, if Richt leaves (for whatever reason) Will Muschamp will
be the first name on that “hire” list. Then that door would probably
be closed to Kirby forever.

One reads the article by Tim Tucker, then checks out the comments by the blogger at 2:57 p.m. and 2:58 p.m. (same blogger) and thinks:
1) “Do they even read the article?”
2) “Do they even have a point?”
3) “Are they sober/sane/sensible?”
Can’t see question #1 or #2 being “yes” but I do hope the blogger from 2:57/2:58 p.m. functions better with his/her family/friends than he/she does in general blog communications. You’ve chosen to embarrass yourself in public, even if you’re too scared to print your own name.

Georgia Tech, hahaha what a joke. Enjoy your BCS game while you can nerds. This is a terrible year for the ACC, but don’t worry Virginia Tech, Miami, and Florida State will all be back soon. You nerds will go back to winning 6-8 games a year and go back to playing in bowl games that you don’t even get $1.4 million for playing in.
Johnson is doing well with kids who were recruited to play in a pro style offense under Chan. Once they leave, no good high schoolers will want to come to play in that high school offense. Big time recruits want to go to schools where they can showcase themselve for the NFL. You can’t do that in the triple option. Sure the RBs put up big numbers, but they don’t do the other things that the NFL looks for(i.e. pass block, catch passes) so therefore the pros do not give them a serious look. That might have worked for Johnson in recruiting at schools where few of the players expect to go pro, but he’s in the big leagues now. Kids that are good enough to play in the ACC want to go pro.

1.4 million: You just can’t get over that Tech is once again second rate. You had your year last year. UGA fans do not care if GT is in the Orange Bowl. All we care about is what happened at Bobby Dodd Stadium on November 28, 2009. You just look ignorant trying to make Tech sound better than UGA even though EVERYONE knows that Georgia beat Georgia Tech 30-24.

$1.4 Million what are you doing on the UGA Blog if you are in sunny Miami? Nothing else better to do? Maybe you are on mommy’s pc or are you just obsessed with UGA? Obviously you have no life and carry no revelance. Once a nerd always a nerd. Tech is going to the biggest bowl in its’44 years. UGA has been to 8 Sugar Bowls in that time period. You try to kick us when we have a down year. Yes 8 wins is a down year for us. Only thing that matters right now is we beat you, have beat you 8 out of 9 and lead the series by 21 games. Until you lead the series or dominate I suggest you keep your fingers in your pocket playing pocket pool. Consider yourself b*tch slapped. Go tell Coach Johnson too. You are a second rate program, always have been and in a few years will be behind Georgia State. I am sure Coach Richt will finde a suitable DC. One other thing $1.4, Richt has won 90 games in 9 years. How long has it taken Tech to win 90 games?
Happy New Year to all and to the decent Tech fans enjoy your stay in sunny Miami.

I put in a call to Kirby Smart before the press conference and offered to stay on as mascot if he would come to Athens. Kirby is a good guy. Yeah, we discussed the a$$ painting and Kirby told me it wouldn’t have happened if he’d been here. Then, he told me he wouldn’t be coming to Georgia. That makes about 4 coaches who have turned down the job, right? 4 that we know about? I think they will get a coach in a few weeks but it may be a soccer coach. Somebody said Richt has lost control of the program since he can’t make his own decision on who his coaches will be. Coach Willie is looking pretty good right about now. He wouldn’t have let them paint my a$$, either.

Many college fans are total a$$es.. UF fan come to mind. The SEC has some of the most insulting blind ignorant homers of all.
But I have to say that UGA fans can be the most insulting ignorant homers of all.
I can honestly see many of them at a KKK rally in Hephizah, Ga. It is like life between 1955 and 2010 never happened. Many probably still drive rusted 1958 Fords and wear crew cuts with Vaseline in their hair. Hardcore Southern confererate flag waving racist evangelicals.
Truly sad for a major university. I have some good friends that taught at UGA. They moved on to other Universities like Colorado and Maryland.
The music seen from Athens has added a touch of hope to the culture of the state of Georgia, until you read one of their posting boards or look and listen to Sonny Purdue the Governor that they eleted.
Frightening and sad.

Baffles me that people still think Muschamp is a possibility, or that we’d even want him—we lit up his D’s at Auburn, and as is pretty common knowledge, D is not the trademark of the Big 12. Regardless, Muschamp will be the next coach at Texas. He’s not coming back to UGA, and personally, I think we’re better off.
I hope Smart has the door open, but something that occurred to me the other night, nobody’s talked about the D-Coordinator at Nebraska. Don’t know who it is, and I know immediate reaction will be that it’s a Saban-Smart situation, but anything would be an improvement, and my above Big 12 comment notwithstanding, that Nebraska D flat-out gets after people.

1) I think the “head coach in waiting” title is stupid. I hope UGA doesn’t stoop to that.
2) Kirby Smart is not coming to UGA.
3). Now that a lot of NFL teams are finished, look for a position coach to be named our new DC.
4) No matter who the DC is, UGA will still be mediocre as long as Bobo is OC.
5) If Bobo and the offense hadn’t put the defense in so many jams this year and last, we wouldn’t be needing a new DC. Did anybody notice the 99 yards of total offense for the 1st half of the nobodycares.com bowl in Shreveport?

If it’s an NFL guy, it better not be Bob Sanders, or whatever his name is that’s been rumored from Buffalo. I’d rather have Bill Lewis come back than that guy. Buffalo is awful, and the Sanders-or-whoever guy hasn’t coached college in over 10 years, if I remember right.
If you think Martinez was not the problem, especially after watching our D play with coaching from GA’s, Garner, and Richt in the bowl, then you just haven’t been watching UGA football games for the past 5 years.

Hey, 1.4 Million…,
Do your home work next time. Bowl money is distributed evenly throughout the respective conferences. The ACC has 1 team in a BCS bowl. The SEC has 2 teams in BCS bowls. Therefore, Tech will receive $14 million/6=$2.3 Million. UGA will receive $28 Million/10=$2.8 Million. That is not even considering that UGA prints money in Athens and most of Tech’s money goes straight to Hezbollah.
Admit it, Techies…we are better than you. Deal with it.

I sick and tired to UGA fans posting the 30 -24 score of which we beat tech. When we are able to Consistantly beat Florida, Alabama LSU on a regular basis. We have something to boast about. Damn a state championship. That’s want high schoolers aspire to win. What about a National Champoinship. Then and only then can be boast.

Now that is deep envy and a deep sickness. Think about it folks. What UGA fan in the same circumstances would give GT one second of thought? ZERO
$1.4 since you got nothing beter to do but serf UGA blogs and porn sites I’d just like to remind you 30 to 24… 8 of 9 and 60/39. Iowa will make it 5 bowl losses in a row for the maggots…Glad you are obsessed with the DAWGS and glad it hurts so bad.

Altamaha-Having to re-post with edits b/c the AJC thought police is evidently taking exception to some of my original word choice:
altamaha, instead of re-writing everything i’ve written on my blog about CWM the past 2+ years and blogged here on AJC the past five, I invite you to review my mainly fire-CWM blog (see link end of this post), to read my EXTENSIVE case against CWM, long before anyone else was saying it, I might add. What I will say here was at least on pass plays, there were some UGA defenders in the picture on most attempts, which was hit-or-miss to say the least with CWM, and I’m thinking the dumb penalties were way down too.
I agree on the erratic O—but people forget that it was about the same with Richt. At least Bobo doesn’t give lip-service to the run. Personally, my next bone to pick is the O-line—we should’ve been a dominant unit this year, and we weren’t even average. Will be interested in how that shapes up, along with the rest of the team, in the spring.

Umm, UGA fan we have actually fared well against both Bama and LSU lately. Florida is a different subject though so I’ll give you that one. The only reason the 30-24 is brought up so much is because all you heard from the Nerds last year was 45-42. This past year was tough on UGA fans so you can expect them to talk junk to the Techies all year long.

As a Dawg fan, I look for anything about the Dawgs at AJC Sports Online, and love to read about them, and blog about them. But I rarely go to the Tech blog(s), and if I do I never post a comment. How many Dawg fans in these blogs actually go to a Tech blog and POST? Go ahead, fess up! No complaints or disrespect paid. I doubt there will be many who admit it, but I know there are a few (and a lot of them are as obnoxious as the Tech posters here). My question/point is this, why are there so many Techies obsessed with UGA, and what is written, that they have to come over here and post their nonsense… not just once, but over, and over, and over, and over… WHY? An inquiring mind needs to know. There is only one word… obsession. If Tech is so hot, go get a degree, a job, a life.

Orange Bowl Game final score….Iowa-34….Bugs-17….and it won’t even be that close. Ga. Tech has been living on borrowed time. There wins this past year have been unimpressive. The only two teams they played that had decent teams beat them handily.Believe me I can name at least three to four other teams in the Big Ten that would take Tech to the cleaners. Iowa will manhandle Techs offensive and defensive lines and control the game by beating Tech at their own game..controlling the clock. Tech has what we in the Mid West call “a nice little team” but when you have to run an offense like they do its because of one thing…your talent level is weak. We’ve had a month to prepare for Tech.Believe me after the first half this game will not be close.

It sure has been fun working under coach Saban all these years and it’s a whole lot easier to coaching these top rated athletes. Most of all, it’s been a lot of fun winning all these games!!! Heck, we made Tebow cry and Urban Meyer retire!
I just celebrated my 34th birthday last week, so I’m not quite ready to become a head coach just yet but that day will come. Coach Saban has all of us just focusing on the Texas game, we have all been busting our tails.
After we win the National Championship game we all are going to hear that cash register ring Cha-Ching!!!! One thing that I have learned from Coach Saban is to not worry about loyalty when it comes to money just dance with the one that shows you the most! I will not take one penny less than my good buddy Will Muschamp makes!
So Georgia step up to the plate, Florida step up to the plate, Florida State you gave up too soon, Alabama if you want to match their offers then I am HAPPY at Alabama too!!!

Kirby’s the guy.
I am putting the house on Iowa. Not only because I hate Tech, but the Big 10 has surprised me thus far. They come out to play and force teams to play their style of game. They will not allow this to become a score fest, et al. the majority of Tech’s wins. Tech’s paper bag defense and high school defensive tackles will get either pancaked or blown off the ball all game long. Your linebackers will be so tired of chasing Iowa’s running back at the end of the game they’ll think it was late November all over again. With a month to prepare for Johnson’s gimmick, Iowa’s already stingy D will be just fine.
You dorks have a lot more to worry about in your first BCS appearance then how much money your taking home. The fact that you even think in this manner shows your utter loser mentality. “We’ll probably get blasted on national television by a second place Big 10 team, but at least we brought home more money than UGA’s bowl game…” Ahh, the things losers say. Keep that mentality Techies. It suits you all well.

Kirby Smart's Coming to Georgia
January 3rd, 2010
7:40 pm
Kirby is still very interested in the Georgia job according to real insiders. Kirby is still widely considered to be interested in joining the Bulldogs after the Jan 7 Bowl game. Kirby said in THIS interview: “If a better opportunity presents itself, then obviously that’s something down the road.”
Granted, Richt has talked defensive philosophy with a LOT of guys. Chavis and Foster were both NEVER candidates for the job and were NEVER offered the job. Ever. Richt has contacted during this process: Smart, Sanseri (current Bama LB Coach), Steele (former Bama DC), Gardner, and Grantham (Dallas Cowboys). Gardner is the ONLY one Richt has publicly said he has eiliminated so far. The frontrunner is, and continues to be Kirby Smart. But there’s a mile long of others very interested if he changes his mind after the Bowl game.

Gator boy……The Bulldogs have brought home two national championships in their storied history: a shared title in 1942 and a consensus national championship in 1980 (several polls recognized the Bulldogs as national champions in 1927, 1946, and 1968, as well). In addition to their 2 national championships, the Bulldogs have won 12 Southeastern Conference (SEC) championships, the most recent coming in 2005, boast two Heisman Trophy winners (Frank Sinkwich, 1942, and Herschel Walker, 1982), and hold the distinction of having three graduates become Super Bowl MVPs (Jake Scott, 1972, Terrell Davis, 1998, and Hines Ward, 2005).

Eaasssy,
Hope this makes sense, i’m rushing for dinner.
In my opinion, our defense will be much much better next season if we can stay healthy. We were able to redshirt a lot of real good athletes on defense. Granted they were not 5-star-can’t-miss-studs like georgia gets, but our coaches really are good at getting guys to play above their heads. But that’s just me talking. I believe the Tech-georgia games will be exciting, back and forth, slug outs as long as Paul Johnson is there.

Jeremy, maybe cause Saban won’t allow anyone credit for their work. People think Saban is the reason for the defense. If Kirby were to right the ship at UGA, he would be recognized and not kept down. Saban won’t take credit for screwing up the Dolphins but he wants all the credit for when he leaves Bama. Trust me , he ain’t changed. He will leave Bama high n dry just like all the teams before.

I say Kirby Smart will be our DC on Friday, Jan. 8th. It was a done deal when it was offered, with the stipulation nothing is official until after the MNC game. Richt is so smart, he even got other coaches interviewed and written about just to throw off the media. I believe (from Smart’s comments about being a DC as a career) he would enjoy coaching for his alma mater (and return his wife to her home town), and he has a better chance of getting a HC’ing position coming from the Mark Richt camp than Saban’s, considering the record of honesty Saban has created for himself. I’ve been wrong before, just sayin’….
Kirby Smart's the Guy
January 3rd, 2010
8:35 pm
As long as Smart stays at Bama. No one will ever give Kirby credit for Bama’s D’s success. Saban will get ALL the glory. This does not help Smart at all. Smart, if he comes to Georgia, will get the credit if his defense is terrific.
Saban’s known as a terrible guy to work with, ask Kevin Steele, who bolted in 2007 as Bama’s DC for a lateral move from Bama. Saban doesn’t even let his DC do interviews.
Why would Smart stay at Bama and try to improve the #1 Defense when he could come to Georgia, and improve a defense ranked #57? Richt’s a MUCH easier guy to work for, more loyal, wins more than Saban, quits jobs a lot less, and will pay more. The time to make a move is after you get to the Natl Champ, then you can max out your pay. That’s when Richt made his move from FSU to Georgia. The timing is perfect for Kirby.

Dear 1.4 Million,
We know you are in unchartered waters for a long time playing in a significant bowl ( not that it is the NC). However, you seem to forget that UGA is the legitimate ACC Champ by swatting your bugs like we have in the last 7 of 8 meetings. Therefore, should you happen to squeeze by Iowa, which is a big “if” then we would also therefore be the legitimate Orange Bowl Champs. By the way, we have convincingly won our bowl game so no pressure, keeping being a bug, and good luck. Only makes us shine that much more.

I don’t want to be negative here but I just don’t see Michael Adams or Damon Evans spending the money that it’s going to take to bring KS to UGA. CWM was the highest paid assistant at UGA and he was only making $327,000…… Kirby is sitting at $369,000 right now…..Bud Foster at $450,000 we almost had him until VT kicked in a million $ annuity at the end of 6 years. That means we balked at $616,667 a year. Does this sound right is the math correct? If you pay that much to one assistant then you will also have to pay your OC about the same amount of money or you will create dissension on your team. Bud Foster has 23 years experience compared to Kirby’s 1 year.
I can see where Richt was headed but I don’t believe that $616,000 is going to pry Kirby away from Bama.

Poster “Kirby Smart’s Coming to Georgia” is still as dumb as ever. First is name is spelled GARNER not GARDNER. You claim to be so smart about UGA football yet you cannot even know how to spell the coaches names. Secondly Garner was NEVER, considered a candidate to begin with so how could Richt publicly eliminate him if he was never even a candidate to begin with.
3rd) The Georgia job is NOT a better opportunity. Its a lateral move at best and there is no amount of money that UGA could or would offer Kirby that Bama couldn’t or wouldn’t match because the UGA athletic department is notoriously cheap when it comes to paying assistant coaches. That started with the miser (Dooley) himself and he taught his apprentice Evans very well.
As far as working with Richt over Saban then that may be the only advantage UGA offers. Kirby has already been a coach on Richt’s staff in 2005 and Richt the genius had him coaching the running backs so Kirby may not consider working for Richt a benefit.

to enlighten you … here’s part of an article from a 2008 edition of GA magazine::
“UGA lags far behind other top public institutions. With an endowment of $475.6 million, UGA has roughly one-sixth the financial reserves that UVA enjoys ($2.8 billion). Georgia Tech ($815 million) is considerably stronger, and the difference is particularly glaring when you compare endowment-per-student statistics: Georgia Tech ($51,310) vs. UGA ($14,009).”
The article continues to point out the following::
“There is a direct correlation between academic quality and the size of your endowment. The best public universities have the largest endowments,”

Maybe you’ll get lucky this year, but if you couldn’t beat a very mediocre team this year, you have no chance next season. Too bad. Well-endowed, how can you justify the examples of only two or three schools to make a generalization about endowments. Every academic knows that you must have multiple (i.e.: more than three) sources to prove your research. Does this article show the private donations to the UGA Foundation? Because that money is separate from the endowment of the school. Kennesaw State does the same thing. It’s how you compensate for not having a large endowment. If you can provide more proof other than ‘I told you so’ arguments, please feel free to post them.

Question 1, why are Techies that claim to be at South Beach, blogging on a UGA blog ? Smell test failiure.
Question 2, Whay are Gators claiming to not be worried about the UF coaching problems, on a UGA blog talking about the UGA defensive coordinator? Last I checked they need one too! Smell test failure.
Question 3, Is this the death of Journalism as we know it?

Matt the Brave … you’re welcome to read the article from a 2008 edition of GA Magazine (see below).
http://www.uga.edu/gm/artman/publish/0605camp.html
It discusses the 1996 private endowment to UGA by Bernie Ramsey, and UGA’s aspirations to reach the higher ranks of major Public Universities in terms of Public AND Private endowments.
I would have searched for at least 2 other similar articles, as you suggest should be done … but UGA is simply not worth the time. HAPPY NEW YEAR … GO JACKETS!!!

I was successful at Notre Dame. Heck, I did get the job for a day or two. I am a fine coach though that came from Tech. I coach at Central Florida and we are a bigger powerhouse than Georgia Tech. This is an upgrade for me. However, my family did like the free hot dogs that came with their season tickets at Georgia Tech.

“I must say, after enduring many years of torture from the UoG crowd about bad years and lost games, this year’s Clean Old Fashioned Hate just doesn’t bother me nearly as much as it has in the past. I hope that feeling sticks.”
HA HA HA.
That’s a total laugh.
That is the single funniest GA tek post ever by ANY ONE.
Playing at your own house, ranked at the time in the Top 10 with your Best Football team in 54 years since 1955, you could not beat 8-5 UGA Bulldogs, to absolutely MAKE OUR SEASON, and leave us with a much better win than any of your GA tek wins this season and extend our streak to 8 of the last 9 and Win Number 60 against GA tek for us to have now 13 consecutive seasons of 8 plus wins and 26 Bowl Wins for MORE and a BETTER WINNING PERCENTAGE in Bowl Game than GA tek, leaving us at 90-27 in the Coach Richt Era starting 2001 with this 30-24.
Then, we come in here and read a GA tek fan post that “enduring many years of torture from the UoG crowd about bad years and lost games, this year’s Clean Old Fashioned Hate just doesn’t bother me nearly as much as it has in the past.”
It bothers you less that you are now 1-8 vs. Coach Richt.
It bothers you less that you have now lost 60 times to UGA.
It bothers you less that our worst team in 13 years beat your best team in 54 years.
Ha Ha Ha.
” I hope that feeling sticks,” you say Andrew Sherwin. I can tell you how that will work out. You will look back on 24-30 and say your boys were not tough enough, didn’t want it enough, didn’t care like your coach who all week long for 2 weeks running told us at UGA that the game did not matter.
Then, of course, he too had a change of heart after the game. Hit the UGA fans in the face, he told you GA tek fans (both of you.)
Thanks for making our season. Our best win of the season and better than any win GA tek had. And, to think that we did it by lining up our men against your boys and running the football right up your gut, only to see Paul Johnson SCRAP his high school offense and throw the football on the last 4 plays of the game, all 4 wounded ducks to drop to the ground at Grant Field.
We take special joy in you SCRAPPING YOUR HIGH SCHOOL OFFENSE for the last 4 plays of the game, trying to tell us how Heisman-like Josh Nesbitt is with his 13 TD passes to 11 interceptions in his 38 games played as GA tek’s “quarterback.” Then, you got to play Climpsum Farmers just after 7-6 South Carolina beat them, for the ACC CHUMPionship Game.
Yeah, that didn’t hurt at all.
Should I play you back what every GA tek fan said BEFORE the Game ?
It hurts like Hell, that’s how it feels. You blew it. Thought you were great.
Uh, no. You play in the ACC where you have no competition and for out-of-conference besides JACKSONVILLE STATE, you play the ONLY 2 SEC teams to NOT EVEN BE IN A BOWL GAME. You played six games against teams NOT EVEN IN A BOWL GAME.
LOST 24-30 to UGA Bulldogs for the 8th time in Coach Richt 9 years and LOSS Number 60 overall to UGA Bulldogs.
Yeah, that doesn’t mean anything, whistling into the sunset you go.

Have any of you recognized the ties between Muschamp, Smart, and Valdosta? They both were secondary or assistant coaches at Valdosta State University under former coach Chris Hatcher. Hatcher was just fired from Ga. Southern, even though he brought in recruits and the next coach will reap the benefits. It would be nice to get rid of Bobo, bring in Hatcher as our OC (known for his offensive mind being a former great QB) and maybe that could lure Smart into Athens since he’d be working with an old friend.

Thuga fanantics should be grateful for GT. Think where you would be without them. Richt could shave a win a year off his record and it wouldn’t be so glossy and shiny. And if it were not for Vandy and some Georgia Southern type wussies it would be even less glossy and shiny. In fact, it would be rather dull.

So I see the DC search for the Dawgs has moved to Newark. The guy going the wrong way through security has to be a Dawg Fan does it not. Shut down the entire air traffic grid. Surely it wasn’t Mark Richt but how could it not be. He’s in the northeast trying to find someone, anyone that is willing to board the Titanic and throw his career down the tubes with the Mark Richt crew. Captain Richt please report to the bridge, there’s a problem you need to deal with. He was last sighted doing a back flip off the Brooklyn Bridge on New Year’s eve because he certainly had no football functions after his team played on Monday in Shreveport when the ticket for admission was a pound of shrimp and a Herschel Walker doll. Yee Haw Dawgs! Kirby Smart indeed. He’ll come back to Athens as head coach and then the Dawgs can get on a roll because he won’t put up with the underachieving, me first, late hitting, selfish play that Mark Richt embraces. I’m pulling for you Dawg Fans to get a coach that actually has some integrity and some football sense.

Kirby Smart's Coming to Georgia
January 4th, 2010
7:42 am
1) Kirby Smart is looking for a place where he’ll get credit for doing what he does. That won’t happen at Bama, which is par tof the reasson why Steele left in 2007. The other is Saban is a hard guy to work for. He’s an old school berate and tear down type A kind of guy.
2) Richt wins more than Meyer, Saban, or Miles–90 SEC wins in 9 seasons–without all the drama, no one else can claim that. Richt is the #4 winningest coach in the NCAA out of 120 teams. Richt won 2 Natl Champ’s at FSU, helped them finish in the top 5 for 13 years. Richt won Georgia a Natl Champ in 2007, and had another 13-1 year which was tops in the SEC and a Natl Champ type of year.
3) Richt does it all with a style and class that Saban or Meyer will never know how to do–much like a John Wooden or Tresel or Dungy. Richt is known as being LOYAL to his school and coaches, unlike Saban and Meyer who quit on their coaches and players every 1-15 years.
4) Right now, according to every real insider, Kirby is very interested and leaning heavily towards joining Georgia after Jan. 7. Of course, if Kirby changes his mind over the next 3 days, Richt has also contacted Sanseri (Bama’s LB Coach), Steele (Bama’s 2007 DC), and Grantham(Dallas Cowboys).
5) Richt will NOT offer the job to anyone who will turn it down. So if you hear that, it is simply an uninformed person and NOT true.

Wow, you Tech fans aren’t as smart as you think you are. Look gtfanfrom1951, you just proved your point AGAINST your vagina conference. ACC- Mighty SEC-0, what a joke. There is obviously a reason why the SEC’s 5th best team (Tenn) played against the ACC’s 2nd highest ranked team (VT @ 11th) in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl, and the SEC’s 9th best team played the ACC Runner-up (Clemson) in the Music City Bowl. The ACC is the 5 or 6th best conference in the nation… Honestly, the MWC deserves to take over the ACC’s automatic BCS bid it has gotten so bad. What do you think would happen if Bama played Tech? It would be 72-0, thats what would happen. You see, the SEC has 2 automatic BCS bids, the SEC Champ goes to NC, runner-up goes to Sugar Bowl. I have been saying it all along, there is pairity in the SEC and parody in the ACC.

Just like “Hugedawgfan” said, enjoy your non-competitive and non-deserving Orange Bowl buddy. Two (2) second tier SEC teams (namely South Carolina and Georgia) dismantled both your weak Tech team and Clemson on the same weekend. The Orange Bowl should be embarrassed to have either one of the schools representing their game. Your 2nd best team “barely” beat Kentucky in as you say an SEC Bowl. Our #2 team (mighty Gators) would have beat them by 40! Oh and our #1 team (Bama) would beat your weak ass by 40!

Likewise, Tennessee beat the heck out of Georgia and our number 3 (Virgina tech) beat the stew out of them. I dont know if it’s accurate to say that we balked at paying Foster 600,000. He’s been there an awfully long time, and I don’t think he was in some kind of a $ bidding war. You assume he would have left if we just beat VT offer, and that’s in no way a given. In fact what he got wasnt a higher base pay, but an annuity if he hangs around long enough, which will probably never come to pass before he is named some new HCIW title, and completely renegotiates his whole deal. Seems a lot more likely that VT just gave him a good excuse to stop entertaining outside offers. 20 years doesnt sound like a guy who really enjoyed the pressure of looking elsewhere.

Lets face the facts the SEC leads the nation by far in having the most arrogant, obnoxious and juvenile fans. If there is no logic, resort to the grade school name calling. This is probably because the states represented by the SEC schools are consistently in the bottom third of the country in terms of spending for education. Not willing to pay for schools and teachers but boastful about shelling out $600,000 for some darn ASSistant coach??? Yes the SEC has two great teams this year, but the others are all mediocre at best. Remember that the whole set of SEC football teams could disappear tomorrow and 99.999998 % of Americans could damn care less.

I knew from the beginning that Kirby Smart was not going to leave Alabama regardless of his ties with UGA. The only way he would leave if Nick Saden left with him. I do not think Coach Richt is looking for a head coach to replace himself. Now, if looks like Coach Richt might hire within his own coaches; plus Coach Garner did a good job in the bowl game against a very good offensive team. It might be his turn, and he been at UGA for over ten years!!!!
