If you want to apply for Willie Martinez’s old position at the University of Georgia, the job posting number is 20091296.
The UGA athletics department has publicly posted four job openings this week -– one for a groundskeeper (duties include “assist with daily maintenance of playing surface at various athletic facilities, including mowing and irrigation”) and three for assistant football coaches.
Obviously the coaching jobs aren’t going to go to members of the public who learn of them by perusing the postings on the UGA human resources’ Web site. But the jobs are required to be publicly posted nevertheless, and you might get a kick out of the details contained in the postings. . . .
The job summary for Martinez’s former position: “Serve as Football Defensive Coordinator, including recruiting; defensive staff goals, charts, statistics, practice schedules, staff meetings; supervising graduate assistants and student managers; guiding and encouraging students to reach and complete graduation.”
Required education and experience, according to the job posting, include a BA degree (Masters “preferred”) and extensive experience as a defensive coach/coordinator, “preferably in Division I.”
Under the category “physical demands” of the job, there’s this: “Standing for long periods of time.”
The posting says 45 percent of the job holder’s time will be spent on defensive-coordinator duties, 30 percent on recruiting, 20 percent on supervising graduate assistants and student managers and 5 percent on other duties assigned by the head coach.
Salary ranges for the three coaching jobs were not specified.
The jobs were posted Tuesday. According to the UGA human resources Website, posted jobs are open for a minimum of five business days before being filled.

I’m just glad we were able to win one of our last nine against the Dawgs. That’s really all we should expect anyway. Even our previous AD Dave Braine said as much. Braine also said we’d just have the occasional season of 9+ wins and that’s also been proven true. Hell, this was our best season since 1990 and we couldn’t beat UGA’s worst team since the mid-90s. Braine was crucified by our fans for saying what he said but he was just speaking the truth. Some would apparently rather live in fantasy land.

Drinkclearwhiskey,
You may want to check those Sagarin ratings you quoted again. They don’t look as good as when you made them up:
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/fbt09.htm
Tech’s SOS is actually #15 while Georgia’s is the fifth toughest. In his rankings no team in the top 40 had a tougher schedule ranking than Georgia’s. And regarding the SEC teams, there are actually five with tougher schedules than Tech (UGA #5, USC #7, MSU #8, Arkansas #13, Auburn #14). Ten of the twelve schools had rankings of 27th or better. You can argue about your final BCS ranking for Tech versus Georgia being better but don’t use strength of schedule as part of your argument and don’t make up the numbers. Remember a slide rule, pocket protector, and Google are your friends. I Run This State!

Georgia Tech police reported 21 violent crimes last year, more than any of the other 19 Georgia college and university police departments reporting crime numbers to the FBI.
Tech was followed closely by Clark Atlanta University, which reported 19 violent crimes, and Georgia State University, which reported 16.
At Georgia Tech, the majority of the violent crimes, 12, were robberies, while there were eight aggravated assaults and one forcible rape reported to the FBI.
According to the FBI’s “Crime in the U.S.” report released on Monday, all but one of Clark Atlanta’s violent crimes in 2008 were robberies, while the campus police reported one forcible rape.
At Georgia State, there were nine robberies, six aggravated assaults and one forcible rape.
In 2007, Georgia State reported 16 violent crimes, while 15 were reported by both Georgia Tech and Clark Atlanta.

Thanks Dawg in Birmingham. Wow Tech. That’s a pretty impressive bowl record over the last few years. You and your live in partners have a great time in Miami. Don’t forget to go to the game. I know it will be more fun hanging out around the Versace mansion, the gay nude beaches and playing Dungeons and Dragons back at the motel. And don’t forget to yell “Go Dawgs” when your cheerleaders run on the field.

Tech is in the Orange Bowl; a MAJOR BIG TIME BOWl for the second time in 8 yrs or 12? Oh no, no. For the second time in a MAJOR BOWL since 1967. Second major bowl in 42 fricking years. Man, those yellow Jackets have a big time program. HAHAHAHA
Look it up clowns> college football is about tradtions and such. Tech HAS NO ( nada ) MAJOR bowl tradition since Bobby Dud left them. Even when he was active, Tech had not been to a major bowl, beyond the Gator Bowl, in years and years and years. See? THAT fact separates tech from most SEC schools, like my beloved UGA.
We will retool in 2010 and you all will be hiding like that candy man twirp St Simons is.

Dogbyte – Actually, UGA offers one of the best turf management degrees in the world. Being a head groundskeeper at a stadium or golf course is actually a great way to make a living with good money, time outdoors, and working around sports. This particular position probably is much lower on the payscale though.

To the person posing as KIRBY, dude the real Coach Smart would never insult his alma mater like that because he knew what he was getting into when he made the choice of becoming a college coach, he has more class than that and NO, he is not ready for a Division I Head Coaching job yet unless he doesn’t want to become a succussful Legendary Hall of Fame Coach that he will become with a few more years experience. Coach Smart became a leader on the field when he played, a leader as a DC, now needs to learn to lead grown men, young men, organize an athletic department, and motivate a university. Not that he can’t but I bet if you ask coach Saban he would say the same thing, just a few more years experience. Patience, I know he’s confident, smart, but how can you lead or motivate a whole football team, with lesser athletes, hardly no talent and stubborn confident grown men who might think they know what the best defense is for stopping the run-the undernieth short game without giving up the big play, all while trying to recruit top athlete’s who will beleive in what your doing just to finish with a .500 record. Please 2-3 more.
