Want to apply for Willie Martinez’s old job?

If you want to apply for Willie Martinez’s old position at the University of Georgia, the job posting number is 20091296.

The UGA athletics department has publicly posted four job openings this week -– one for a groundskeeper (duties include “assist with daily maintenance of playing surface at various athletic facilities, including mowing and irrigation”) and three for assistant football coaches.

Obviously the coaching jobs aren’t going to go to members of the public who learn of them by perusing the postings on the UGA human resources’ Web site. But the jobs are required to be publicly posted nevertheless, and you might get a kick out of the details contained in the postings. . . .

The job summary for Martinez’s former position: “Serve as Football Defensive Coordinator, including recruiting; defensive staff goals, charts, statistics, practice schedules, staff meetings; supervising graduate assistants and student managers; guiding and encouraging students to reach and complete graduation.”

Required education and experience, according to the job posting, include a BA degree (Masters “preferred”) and extensive experience as a defensive coach/coordinator, “preferably in Division I.”

Under the category “physical demands” of the job, there’s this: “Standing for long periods of time.”

The posting says 45 percent of the job holder’s time will be spent on defensive-coordinator duties, 30 percent on recruiting, 20 percent on supervising graduate assistants and student managers and 5 percent on other duties assigned by the head coach.

Salary ranges for the three coaching jobs were not specified.

The jobs were posted Tuesday. According to the UGA human resources Website, posted jobs are open for a minimum of five business days before being filled.

My apologies, Grinch. One of the “Kirby”s listed losing a QB, WR, and RB to the Draft as the reason we may have sucked this year. Guys, it was the D and its lack of adjustments i.e. coaching. Even with Cox at the helm the offense, when they could actually keep the ball, was not the problem.

Let’s see; UGA has won 10 of their last 12 bowl games, winning their last 3. Tech has won 3 of their last 10, including losing their last 4, and the last one was with Coach Johnson. Tech has beat UGA one time in 9 years. Tech has already lost to UGA this year. You would think Tech fans would just be on their own blogs trying to figure out if they can somehow win a bowl game, instead of over hear beating their chests about how much better they are than us. Gentleman, the enemy at hand for now is Iowa, not UGA. If it will make you feel better, look at last years rings and dream of next year, or maybe the year after.

No apologies needed. I’m for making coaching changes when a pattern is evident, not just after one year of poor performance. What I’d like to know is why we’re sticking with our strength and conditioning coach. That is someone who really needs to go, IMO.

EW,
Do you really think it would be an upgrade for Smart to come to UGA? He could get out from under Saban? He just won the award for Best Assistant Coach. Doesn’t look like they penalized him for it there… I didn’t hear anyone saying it wasn’t him, it was all Saban. (Including you … if it was all Saban, why do you want him??? Guess it didn’t hurt him after all.)

When hiring a HC, wouldn’t most people look at tutoring under Saban as a GOOD thing?

He might come for the money if Bama didn’t match it, but don’t kid yourself into thinking that it would be better for his career. Only trouble is, I imagine both AL and FL can match whatever UGA can pay.

Hmmm, I wonder if anyone can fill Willie’s shoes. Let’s see, if you can coach a defense that can allow less than 26 points per game, and 330 yards per game, then you’re at least as qualified as you predecessor.

Please don’t contact me about the job. I’m already with a National Championship team. I would love to return to Georgia but the Dawgs haven’t won a NC in 30 years. Why would I take the chance when I am going to the BCS NC game this year? Now, if you want to hire me as a Head Coach, that might be different but I assume I will have to wait for CMR to step aside for that. Call me back when that happens. Until then, ROLL TIDE!

One Question(s)

December 10th, 2009
5:03 pm

Did somebody really make a strength of schedule argument for GT of UGA? I thought you technonerds were supposed to be good at math? Last time I checked Georgia played 4 teams (2 out of conference) ranked in the BCS top 25 + an SEC schedule! GA Tech played two top 25 teams – both in conference! Tech got scared by Vandy and destroyed by Georgia. I know yall have to have special glasses to look at the females on North Avenue but please stop trying to sell this half rate GT has a great strength of schedule b.s.

Personally I don’t even understand how tech fans can have the audacity to even gloat to a UGA fan – our worst team in 20 + years kicked the ever living crap out of your ACC championship team. That’s just sad. If it wasn’t for the worst defensive quarter in UGA history last year – you would not have beat Georgia this DECADE. So go jacket off to your calculators and I’ll call you when I need a rocket ship to shove up your astronauts next year.

Now go to bed, you children.

Poor Tim Tucker. He wrote a witty piece about the public listing of the UGA DC position, and after a few funny replies, the thing turned into a bunch of angry people trading insults. Jesus Christ could write an online column for the AJC, and within 10 minutes, people would be flaming each other.

The Georgia Tech Police Department released a report yesterday that a house in the Home Park neighborhood was subjected to a forceful home invasion. The house was on Ethel Street near Hemphill Avenue. The invasion took place at approximately 11:55 p.m. when six people were in the house.

Three men who were described as black males wearing ski masks and bearing firearms kicked in the door to the apartment. The men made the six victims lie face-down on the ground while they searched the home for electronics, grabbing cash, cell phones and a laptop.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution at least four of the victims are Tech students. No-one was hurt during the incident, and the three men were last seen fleeing the apartment in a white, four-door compact car.

Hey mexdawg, let the little Dawg eat! Eat this – your in Shreveport. Even the Music City bowl didn’t want you! Hanging on to rants about attendance figures is a lame excuse to the days when you thought you should be your conference champion. Now all you hang on to is inter state rivalaries, more wins than losses and attendance figures. 80,000 drunk UGA fans is one great thing to be proud of. I hear Shreveport is beautiful on Dec. 28th.

3:35 a.m. another armed robbery happened on the west edge of campus. According to a Georgia Tech Police report, a male and a female were walking on 8th St. near Williams St. when they were approached by two black males. The two men pulled out a handgun and demanded that the couple hand over their money. The couple responded that they had no money.

At that point the men shot the female victim in the stomach. She was transported to Grady Hospital for treatment. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution the male victim was not hurt, and the female has since been released from the hospital. Neither victim was a Tech student.

BuLLdawg – I was waiting for a punch line about robbers leaving orange bowl tickets on the table, but this is just getting sad. I can’t see how parents will continue sending their kids to Tech with the real crime so rampant. At UGA, cops deal with scooters and drinking. At tech, robbery and assault.

Two separate armed robberies occurred over the last week off-campus. Both of the crimes occurred within the expanded patrol zone of 500 feet past campus covered by the GTPD. The two instances mark the 8th and 9th armed robberies since May in and around Tech’s campus, and serve as another reminder of the increasing crime in the Atlanta area over the past few months.

The first of the crimes was an armed bank robbery on Friday, Nov. 6. Unlike the majority of the armed robberies that have happened in the Home Park neighborhood which happened between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m., the robbery at the Wachovia happened at 11:15 a.m. The suspect, described as a five-foot-five to five-foot-nine black male in a plaid shirt, entered the Wachovia Bank near Techwood Parkway and State Street and proceeded to rob the bank.

GTPD believe that the suspect may have been carrying a handgun during the robbery. The suspect then reportedly drove off in a 2004 silver Nissan Maxima, heading northbound on Techwood Parkway. The car is also believed to have been one stolen earlier from South Atlanta.

Less than a week later, a second robbed robbery occurred at the Arby’s on Spring Street and Fourth Street.

Three black males who ranged from five-foot-ten to six-foot-two in height were wearing dark clothing and dew rags over their faces when they entered the restaurant at 10:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10. The men each displayed handguns to the employees and proceeded to take all the contents of the cash registers there. Afterwards, they fled from the scene towards Williams Street. Although no one was injured in the incident, the suspects were still at large as of Wednesday night.

With the increase in crime activity, the GTPD and Atlanta Police Department (APD) recommend that students extra alert and take extra precautions when traveling through and around campus.
