Want to apply for Willie Martinez’s old job?

If you want to apply for Willie Martinez’s old position at the University of Georgia, the job posting number is 20091296.

The UGA athletics department has publicly posted four job openings this week -– one for a groundskeeper (duties include “assist with daily maintenance of playing surface at various athletic facilities, including mowing and irrigation”) and three for assistant football coaches.

Obviously the coaching jobs aren’t going to go to members of the public who learn of them by perusing the postings on the UGA human resources’ Web site. But the jobs are required to be publicly posted nevertheless, and you might get a kick out of the details contained in the postings. . . .

The job summary for Martinez’s former position: “Serve as Football Defensive Coordinator, including recruiting; defensive staff goals, charts, statistics, practice schedules, staff meetings; supervising graduate assistants and student managers; guiding and encouraging students to reach and complete graduation.”

Required education and experience, according to the job posting, include a BA degree (Masters “preferred”) and extensive experience as a defensive coach/coordinator, “preferably in Division I.”

Under the category “physical demands” of the job, there’s this: “Standing for long periods of time.”

The posting says 45 percent of the job holder’s time will be spent on defensive-coordinator duties, 30 percent on recruiting, 20 percent on supervising graduate assistants and student managers and 5 percent on other duties assigned by the head coach.

Salary ranges for the three coaching jobs were not specified.

The jobs were posted Tuesday. According to the UGA human resources Website, posted jobs are open for a minimum of five business days before being filled.

Anyone interested?

YellowfuzzDA,

Sagarin has GT as 12th in the strength of schedule the closest SEC team to that is Alabama at number 28. Also Sagarin has GT out of those top 15 teams as playing the most BCS teams on the road. So GT is #1in most BCS teams played on the road…

so what do you mean by weak? I am confused. UGA sure as hell wasn’t even in the top 40 on either of those categories.

Well hello Yellow Fuzz. I was pretty sure you and your lover St Simons had kept your suicide pact after it turns out Tech’s best team in 60 years is still number 2 in Georgia. As an added bonus it seems that the ACC “Championship” game participants are no better than 5 or 6 in the SEC. Enjoy your holiday.

So who exactly did Tech play? Their OOC was Miss. St. Vandy UGA and Jax state right? UGA is the only bowl team there. Their in conference was … the ACC so about 3 decent games and 5 weak games, + an extra round with 8-4 Clemson. I actually am honestly surprised their SOS came up high in any measure, are we sure this isn’t “Fuzzy Math”.

Techies go to your own blogs. Every time a UGA fan speaks of the realities of football, all you have to say is “we won a championship” or “we didn’t have nesbitt”. So what! You won the acc. One of the worst conferences in football. And we didn’t have AJ Green. So pick up your toys and go to a tech playground. You can’t win here. You lost AGAIN to a FAR superior program and you will continue to do so. You are a sad, sad bunch of wannabe’s that desperately want to believe that you have something similar to special but the reality is……you don’t. And deep down inside you know it. Now give youselves a break and go build each other up on a tech blog where fantasies and magic can take you anywhere you want to go. We’ll stay in touch with the REAL world here.

Why would I leave Alabama for anything less than a Head coaching job?
Especially Georgia, who is on a mad witch hunt for the Head coach after one mediocre season? Those fans should be kissing Mark Richt’s butt. UGA was a joke before Richt got there, and there was actual talk of him needing to go?? The guy had one bad season and lost Moreno and Stafford and Massoqui… Are you fans for real.. I thought the fans at Bama can be unreasonable..

Preston

DawgFan24, it’s not likely. Mack Brown made his deal last year to coach there as long as he wants. Unfortunately, that’s not much longer and Muschamp will take over as HC. Sounds good, but not a reality. You know we got BVG out of Central Florida and everyone wondered who the hell is this guy. I wouldn’t mind getting an unknown that only the likes of CMR could recognize as being a guy that can come in here fired up and ready to prove a point. Someone ready to put in 4 or 5 years of solid defensive mettle and move on to be a HC somewhere. That’s the nature of the beast in football these days.

Kirby imposter, I agree that Kirby won’t be coming over but never say never when your heart gets involved. Kirby played here just like Muschamp did but Kirby isn’t a HC in waiting. Bama will cough up the money to keep him there until he’s offered a HC position though.

So I don’t get something from the crowd. How is UGA on the way out after being among the elite for 8 or 9 years with one bad season and Bama is suddenly established elite again after being mediocre for years and 2 good seasons? Fickle now aren’t we?

Smart to UGA would be at minimum a lateral move. In the long run it would be better for him as he could build his staff and show what he can do rather than let Saban get the credit.

However, Bumpass would be my pick.

Harumph, harumph!! I couldn’t understand the “fire Mark Richt” nonsense either. I’ll guarantee anyone that he will win more games than Dooley did in the same number of games. I know UGA plays more games now, but if you look at the total number of games Dooley coached, I’m certain Richt will have more wins over the same number of games.

Short memories, some. The Goff hiring was a fiasco (couldn’t find a “big name” coach to take the job), and then Donnan came along after Glen Mason jilted us. Richt is on track to be the best coach ever at UGA.

You make a good point about wanting a no namer. I tend to agree with you. But given the fact that Muschamp played at UGA, Bobo is one of his best buddies, AND Mack Brown is now getting 5 million a year, hopefully he will take a long hard look at making a move. He obviously couldn’t start out at DC, but I wonder if Richt has ever thought about approaching David Pollack for a defensive coaching position ? He knows his stuff inside/out, has tons of enthusiasm, would work the players and make them tough. Maybe broadcasting has way more job security and pays to well ? Just seems like he would make a good football coach.

GT Brill, I would LOVE to see that happen. He could go back to broadcasting anytime. We need his fire on our sidelines desperately. Grinch, I bet you were the type of guy who also supported every single Dubya move, no matter how asinine, just because you liked him. I love having Richt as our coach and he just recently proved why I do. Just because of that doesn’t mean I think keeping Willie was a good idea like he did and that pressure to fire him was appropriate if he would not make appropriate adjustments which he thankfully did. Also how many of those 1st and 2nd Rounders you listed we lost played for any of the 3 fired Stooges?
