Richt on changes, Tech rivalry, Powerade bath

There was no answer to the big question –- call it The Willie Martinez Question -– but there were some interesting comments on Mark Richt’s weekly radio call-in show Monday night.

If you missed it:

The first question, not surprisingly, was about any plans for changing coordinators or other assistant coaches.

Richt’s reply:  “I’m not going to make any comment about anything like that. I think people think that just because we need to get better or make some kind of change — they think it always involves changing of people, too.  And that’s not always necessarily true. But, you know, we’re going to get things back on track, I can promise you that.”

–  Richt was asked about his angry reaction to a slightly premature attempt to drench him in Powerade near the end of Saturday’s victory at Georgia Tech.

He said he had told the players at halftime that he didn’t want to see anyone smile until there was no time left on the clock.  “Sure enough, it’s a minute and 20 [seconds] or whatever left and we get the ball back and they decide they’re going to dump me, figuring the game is over,” Richt said. “But I had my jaw set still and I wasn’t smiling or celebrating until that [clock] went to zero zero and we got the victory. And that’s why I got upset, and Bryan Evans basically got the brunt of it, and I love the kid dearly. I love all those guys. He was a little taken aback at my attitude, but afterwards I got a chance to hug his neck and tell him I love him and all that good stuff.”

–  A caller said Tech coach Paul Johnson downplayed the importance of the Georgia game early last week and asked Richt, who is 8-1 vs. Tech, his thoughts on the  magnitude of the rivalry.

“All I can tell you is our boys and our coaches don’t need a whole lot of motivation, I guess, to get fired up about this game,” Richt said.  “And I’m not going to sit here and deny that what happened a year ago [helped] fuel it. It did; there is no question that it did. Them tearing up our hedges and doing some of the things that they were doing after the game at our expense didn’t sit too well with us. And we wanted to do something about it, and we want to continue to do something about it in years to come. And I’ll say this: I’ve always had a respect, a very healthy respect, for Georgia Tech and their football program, and we will continue to have that respect because they are an outstanding team and they do a great job over there. But it’s very, very big to us.”

–  Richt had much praise for safety Reshad Jones’  performance on Saturday – his interception, his tackling, his pass breakups on Tech’s last series and the way he never gave up in chasing Tech receiver Demaryius Thomas on Thomas’ 76-yard touchdown.

“There were a lot of guys that made great plays, but I want to pay a special tribute to Reshad Jones,” Richt said.  “I thought Reshad did such a great job of tackling, such a great job of making that interception. And also at crunch time he had to cover a couple of those deep balls and did a beautiful job of that too. I thought it was great for Reshad, considering all the grief he caught a year ago for that same ballgame.”   (Jones, as you know, got much grief for botching a tackle on Tech’s game-clinching touchdown against Georgia last year.)

– And finally, the show’s last caller cited statistics on how many more times the Bulldogs have allowed 30-plus points under Martinez than under predecessor Brian VanGorder.

Richt’s reply:  “You’re definitely going to win a whole lot more games if you can keep people under 30, there is no doubt about that.”

Richt is not gonna change anything. We will have the same problems next year that we are having now. Not until the AD steps in and strongly suggests the change will Richt consider it. I think they should also look at Bobo’s offensive scheme. Cause If I see one more draw on 3rd and long there is going to be a problem.

Taking these comments and combining them with “recruit retainment assurances” doesn’t bode well for common sense.

Heard a rumor earlier today (that I don’t believe) that said 4 coaches were fired Friday but be allowed to coach the Tech game. If that were true believe there would be some confirmation by now. Also even if some know it is coming, I think that would be about the worst timing in the world to do it day before last game.

Any more word on bowl game? Hoping for Atlanta and a matchup vs VaTech.

Congrats dawgs. I understand how important that GT game was for you. It really was your bowl game as you have nothing else to look forward to. The only consolation if GT looses to Clemson is we then get the pleasure of personally bumping you puppies from the only real bowl game (Chick) you even have a shot at and relegating you to Shreveport where you can play ANOTHER unranked and irrelevent team. So let me see if I understand what you’re so proud of: two record setting performances by King an Ealey against our pathetic defense, 2 GT turnovers, a missed GT FG, a game ending injury to a starting OL and a starting WR, hobbled our starting QB who missed 2 serious and was less than 100% the rest of the way, plus a set of those world famous SEC refs who would only know a hold if it looked like excessive celebration, and we STILL had a chance to win with 1:53 left. Oh yeah, that’s one world class coaching staff ya got there. Oh I forgot, but AJ didn’t play, that’s one in your favor – unfortunately that’s not much of an excuse since your offense has been 10 times better without him. So your best game of the year destroyed our worst game of the year – by 6 points:-) . Really? Seriously? all that and just 6 points and we still had a chance to win with 1:53 left. Wow. Maybe you can double us up on the hardcourt with that middle school team Fox has put together. Only one name you need to remember – FAVORS. Your welcome for giving you the opening for the Chick bowl after we roll on Clemson.

You just want to point out all of your mistakes and say “look, we played out worst game and still only LOST by 6.” Point is, you LOST! A top 10 team playing its last regular season game shouldn’t have to make excuses. I think it is kinda funny that you are so butt hurt about this. Good luck against Clemson.

Really; you’re going to come with excuses. Veiled as they were, they were still excuses from someone trying to rationalize defeat. We missed a field goal as well. You did mention Green. Okay, how about B.Rambo. Are you seriously excited about the “Peach Bowl” just to knock us out. Who’s to say the Peach even wants you? Also, you cannot say that two years ago you would not have wet on yourself at the possibility of CMR and his staff coming to your school. Whining about your two T.O.’s…perhaps we go undefeated w/o turnovers. But you know what they say “If if’s and buts were…” you know the rest. Plus SEC refs/seriously, lets see – Rogers Redding – need I say more [Jasper].
Then to top it off, you bring up Coach Fox, way to create a diversion again. I’ll take Coach Fox…by the way…he will be in Athens longer than Favors will be at Tech. Your sad, real sad. Oh yeah – Yawl lawst.

Simple. Two SEC 6-5 teams beat the two highly ranked ACC teams playing for the championship of that league. And for the record other SEC team Florida kind of whipped FSU too. SEC is a physical conference. ACC is a finesse conference.

Our two teams playing for conference championship are #1 vs. #2. ACC finalists both lost their last games to SEC also-(didn’t-even)-ran’s. Fact.

LOL at THWG…. What a sad little bee. Just like a bee to be proud of “and we STILL had a chance to win with 1:53 left.” You know how much this game killed GT. Their best team in a decade at least, maybe since that mythical NC they shared with 2 other schools…. Yes, the best GT team can’t beat the worst UGA team in the last 13 years.

At home….
With two weeks to prepare….

And Knowshawn and Stafford playin on Sundays….

Willie will have to go!!!! CMR has no choice. The majority of the Bulldog Nation is calling for his head. If Richt don’t pull the trigger on Fabris and Willie he’ll be in deep trouble. He will be in a no win situation. Neither of them can handle the SEC level. I know CMR is trying to play everything down but I’m disappointed he won’t admit the serious coaching problems. To laugh off the problems, down play the situation and spin the facts don’t sit real well with me. CMR needs to show some gut and pull the trigger now. After next week he’ll know who’s available and he can get them on staff and get them prepared for next year. It wouldn’t surprise me if CMR don’t cry “one more year and Willie will be fine”. If Willie stays, I’m gone. I can’t take another year like this year. I gave up my season tickets and my $5,000 donation. I won’t be back in the stands until some major changes are made at Georgia. I say again as I have said the past two years …. WILLIE MUST GO … and he needs to go now.

Hey 50 year Tech fan – surely you can do some simple math.

8 out of the last 9?

Jackets are irrelevant chumps in an irrelevant league. The only reason the Dawg fans are hitting the AJC blogs so hard is because we had to put up with the jerk Saint Simons for a whole year.

You can’t even fill up your tiny little stadium without resorting to gimmicks. 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 cokes, what a JOKE.

We would rather be middle of the pack in the SEC than ACC Chumps/Champs.

I also know plenty of Tech engineers looking for jobs. SOOOOO! please come up with something that actually involves thinking before posting on a BLOG.

UGA football is loaded with talent with more due this February and Tech will never own GA as a recruiting ground. UGA’s comp for the top talent in this state comes from other SEC-East schools. ACC is a basketball conference playing football. UGA would be playing in Tampa this weekend if it played in your weak division. Tech would be 6&6 if they had played UGA’s schedule.

Dawgs just too big and strong up the middle on both sides of the ball. Let’s not make excuses. They beat us in a competitive game. True we had a chance at the end and may have pulled it out if Demarius caught the ball. But he didn’t and Georgia deserved to win.
Changing the subject, I actually have more questions about CMR AFTER the win. Why didn’t he scap that giveaway offense he lost with all year and scheme like he did at Tech? The pro-style only works with a reliable QB, which Joe is not.

hilarious your comments are so funny… how can a team be obsessed with a team that they have totally dominated… you are a second rate football team… you dished it out for 365 days when you won last year ( no let me correct myself georgia lost- cause you didnt win that game it was given to you… and you won by 3pts… ) and yes we won this game by 6pts; but, if you watched this game they left at the minimum 14pts out there: 2td passes clearly dropped with the widereceiver streaking down the field… tech flat please spare me… and you had a week off to play the worst georgia team in 25yrs… come here and let me slap you back into reality… oh wait there goes ealey and king again… your high school offense will only get you so far- you had a good year in a watered down acc- fsu down… wake down… miami up and down— oh wait they kicked your a@#$… oh well you get the idea… enjoy your little championship game and good luck…that offense is a dog and pony show that compensate’s for your shortcoming’s which are many…LOL… and the thing about i am a georgia southern alum and i went there when pj was coaching and leading us to the national championships– great… the offense compensated for lack of size when we couldnt recruit… he is going to set your school back yrs recruitng all then 258lb offensive tackle’s…oh and enjoy 365 days of eating crow!!! 30-24 and 8 out of 9yrs and total domination… ” who owns who “

Our worst team in over a decade comes off one of our worst losses in a decade. Said squad goes TO Tech and beats one of their best teams in a decade and all the bulk of them can come up with is lame excuses. Funny!

BTW, I doubt we put the score on some jewelry. Even though we DO consider winning that game to be important.

I forgot; what conference championship will you be playing in? What BCS game will you be playing in??? If that game meant everything to any team it was UGA. If they drop that game, then there is a strong possibility they have a losing season. It is funny to watch you squirm, even after you won. Run along puppies, the kiddy game is down the street… Us grownups are talkin.

Well – this next year is going to be very interesting….there is a real fire in the belly of Georgia Tech now. I hope Georgia does real well next year…..because now we have a real game to watch. Not like in years past – of course they are always exciting…but maybe we end up swapping wins on each others turf for a while..If all our kids come back next year then we stand a good chance of returning the favor.

Cudos to #2 Boykin – he certainly contributed all over the field on Defense and I wish we had him. Classy young man.

That said – why did CMR wait till the last game of the season to install a terrific running game- those kids sat there all season long. If the game plan was changed earlier – Georgia might have just been playing Alabama or Florida for the SEC cup.

I am very excited for the win but this was not a complete game. Willie still failed to make any adjustments in the second half again making our highly talented players look like crap because he doesn’t have the ability to change anything! If it works great but teams make half time adjustments unlike us! I don’t think Willie changes anything because he plans the first half because he isn’t smart enough to plan two half’s of football in the SEC. In the first half our D allowed “3″ points, anyone remember the second half number? “21″ Willie has got to go and if CMR won’t do it Evans needs to step up and show us fans he will do his job!!!!

Maybe because it was one of the few times that he knew he could run it down the throat of a weak D? One doesn’t get that opportunity on the SEC. You, on the other hand, have a weak D. Is what it is.

hey thwg,

I understand that the institute has hired several UGA agriculture specialists to look into the situation with the turf at the Joke by Coke. It seems there is a 6-8 inch track in the middle of the field running from one end zone to the other that was created Saturday night. The size of the prints that created the track match perfectly to the shoe size of Ealey and Caleb King.

Preliminary reports indicate that overuse of the field in the same direction was the cause. (You know back and forth and back and forth)

Final report to be issued in December.

I know this post is pointless, but here goes. Georgia lost last year to Tech. We lost, we got beat, we lost. Tech lost last year to Georgia, they got beat, they lost. That is all there was to it. A great deal of hatred beat Ga & Tech got started up right here on these blogs. I always pulled for Tech to win, except against Georgia, until I read these posts this last year. I am 61 years old and have always done this till last year. I would hope that some of the Georgia people that post, quit doing it in the classless manner that ONLY A FEW of the Tech people did last year. It was not the whole Tech Nation, just a few people using multiple names. Let’s get back to showing some class. We are used to winning and need to start acting like it. When you get beat, you take it, reguardless of how you think it happened. You don’t continue to taunt the other team all year. Some of the best people that I have ever known were Tech and Clemson people and years ago after games, we had a gathering at whatever location we played. It was tough when you lost, but no one taunted you. It would go on to 11:00 or 12:00pm at night and a cross word was never passed. Remember, you may be the one that loses the game next year. I know that no one cares about this post, but that is the way it should be.

Georgia didn’t wait until the last game of the season to install a great running attack. Tech’s defense sucks. Georgia could not run the ball like that against Tenn., Florida, or LSU. I can’t believe that Martinez is the only DC in the state catching real heat right now.

thwg sure has a short memory. He does all the “if-only” and “almsot” and “just abouts”… I wonder why he doesn’t apply that to last years game? Losers can always come up with reasons they should have won. Sure, Tech will go to a better bowl that UGA, they play in a cream-puff conference. This past week showed what a STRONG conference they are. They had 3 games against the SEC and lost them all.
GT fans, like thwg and Saint Simons need to realize just because they have one good game or season doesn’t mean they’re a great team. Hawaii was the same…. Had a good record and thought they were a great team. NOT!
Let’s see how many 10 win seasons ina row they have. How many bowl games they win in a row (How’d that work last year GT?) and how long it’ll take them to beat UGA 3 or 4 years in a row. Winning 1 in 9 isn’t a very good record.

Something very telling in those comments–Richt talking about Bryan Evans and saying “He was a little taken aback by my attitude”…Here is a major problem…..Evans was not respecting authority…Richt said at Half time…no smiling until it is zero zero on the clock…Now I take that to mean no smiling until zero zero….so Evans and some other players decided to dump powerade on the Coach…and CMR was right to show anger….Players not respecting the word of the coach…Evans has made a lot of stupid stupid mistakes and penalties this year…Maybe the whole problem was that He did not respect authority…undisciplined person does undisciplined things on the field……..So Coach Richt—-learn from this….make sure you teach UGA players to respect authority and sometimes the only way to do it —is to show anger. Kids can be hard headed if you are too nice and think that you don’t mean stuff….show a little more anger and show them that you mean things…Being nice and compassionate is good…But you have to be strict at times or they will run all over you.

Has there been any suggestions that Richt take away one of Martinez’ duties as DC and DB coach? Seems that a lot of the problems with the defense happen due to tight ends and receivers being 30 yards open. It appears that the defensive backfield is not playing to the level it was when Martinez was only responsible for that area. Maybe the solution is to leave CWM as DC and hire a DB coach or vice versa…that way no one is having to have their attention divided.

GT MAN, our post was very funny. Truth is, Tech is doing a great job and will continue to be a force in the ACC. Unfortunately, they do not play the calibur of teams that UGA played this year and as is in most years. UGA had 5 losses, but look who they lost to…highly ranked teams. I said this when FSU was on top the ACC. The conference is weak from top to bottom. I like FSU, but their non-conference games against Miami and Floirda were the only games they had to play each year. Even though FSU dominated teh ACC, their losses always came from Miami, and Florida(sec) and in the championship in 98′ against TEnnessee (sec) and O2′ Gerorgia (sec) ….there is a pattern here.

I am a UGa fan. I dont bost when we occassionally beat Florida. When we put 2-3 years in a row together against the gayturds, then maybe I will boast a little.

Why so many UGA fans are rubbing this in is because of the talking GT fans have been doing the last year.

You seem like a smart and realistic GT fan…hats off to you and good luck against Clemson. I remember the first time yall played. Clemson was closing the gap in the second half and had found a way to stop the 3option. CPJ better have made some adjustments or Clemson will win big.

THWG- isn’t that how most teams win?? Play better than their opponent? I mean let’s be honest. How many games do you see where both teams play their best on both sides of the ball????? Usually the team that loses didn’t play as well as the team that won. It’s pretty standard sports knowledge dude but way to make excuses and look to basketball. It’s no secret ACC is dominant in basketball. Too bad that isn’t the #1 sport people care about in this country.

Barnhart was trying to say that we could have a rematch of the SECCG. My question is what if Florida beats bama and then Bama beats Florida. Is Bama the NC????? ARe they going to share it??? If the essentially tie 1-1 how can you award one over the other????

Bobo would be on the hot seat in most programs, but considering the defensive problems at UGA right now, what I wouldn’t do to have even an ok coordinator of Bobo’s quality on defense. I just hope the new coordinator is from outside the program, not a promotion from within, because I can only assume things wouldn’t change enough in philosophy without an injection of a whole new fresh face to yell at the D.

T-Man you lie through your teeth. Losing to UGA takes the polish of the Rambling Wreck’s season, although a BCS game would be rewarding. Enjoy South Carolina’s recent whipping boy Saturday in front of a half full stadium (unless Clemson fans decide to go watch their team). Tech has an upside, but ACC Sheriff’s aren’t quite the intimidating force you’d like to think at this point. For all you Tech fans that are like “enjoy your fun see you next year”. What?…like you win every year or something. Let me put it in perspective for you…

UGA leads the series 60-37
UGA has won 44 out of the last 60
UGA has won 14 out of the last 17
UGA has won 8 of the last 9 and……
UGA pulled down your pants and spanked that behind this year.

Conclusion last year was the fluke not this year. I would assume you nerds could do the math on that kind of dominance.

Just like most true-blue Bulldogs, I’m so pleased that we played good ole fashioned, smash-mouth and drive ‘em back Georgia football and beat the insects! I also agree, however, that Richt must act NOW to realign his staff. I’m concerned that Rodney Garner will leave if Richt does not promote him to DC (after dismissing Martinez, of course). Hereinafter is an entry that I posted after a Jeff Shultz column, which followed the Kentucky debacle. Can anyone shed any light on the likelihood of Garner returning to the putrid “Big Arnge” if Richt doesn’t promote him?

I’m a long, long way from my beautiful Georgia, and few people over here will care that our vaunted, proud program has sunk to such a low level. I’m sick over it! Richt should remember that Phil Fulmer refused to fire his assistants. Lots of UT-Fulmer loyalists say now that he should have been dismissed several seasons ago. Remember that horrible whipping that Kiffin’s first team gave us a few weeks ago? Remember how Kiffin vowed NEVER to lose to Georgia? He may be counting on Richt’s mulish determination to keep Martinez.
If Richt does not fire Martinez immediately after the season and replace him with Rodney Garner, I fear that we will lose Garner, probably (back) to UT. I can’t bear the thought! I remember how Fulmer beat us like a drum, year after year, with so many of our own state’s better players!! Richt has won the recruiting wars because he has had Garner. Richt should promise Garner the Defensive Coordinator’s job NOW or resign.
Even way over here, I’ve heard the troubling rumor that contractual obligations will prevent Richt from firing any of his assistants! I don’t know any Bulldog fans who want Martinez to keep his job. I wonder if a majority still wants Richt to keep his own. I realize how successful and humble he has been, and he has made us proud. Still, this debacle makes me angry. The UT game and this one are simply inexcusable. We cannot tolerate this. The pronoun “we” includes Damon Evans. He has increased the contribution demands on season-ticket holders. With that money, he is being paid quite well to make tough decisions. So is Richt.
Has anyone called Prince Charles? He has had to live too long with blame for our last home game loss to Kentucky. Richt must wear this goat’s horns. Place the call, Coach.
I’m beginning to believe the insufferable Tech blogger who laid Uga VII’s death at his coaches’ feet. Poor Uga, he couldn’t stand to see his team sink so low. It just killed him. I’m glad he was spared this latest humiliation.

You yechies are convinced you are going to a BCS bowl…were you not also convinced you would beat UGA? How did that work out?

You were flat? Like #35 when Cox ran him over?

You were missing a receiver? Like AJ

You missed a fieldgoal? Like the icer that was missed in the 4t quarter?

Your receiver dropped a pass? Like the 3 that UGA receivers dropped?

The refs didn’t call holds? Just like the chop blocks they did not call?

The only reason this years game was big for UGA is because we needed you little pukestick geeks to shut it. However, like the annoying little booger eating twirps you are, you keep at it. UGA owns yech, always has, always will.

Say what you want about Coach Right: But 1 thing that sets him apart (especially from Johnson at Tech) is true CLASS. If anyone heard the comments Coach Johnson made this morning on 790 AM….. I can tell you he came off as a petulant little baby. Still downplaying the game like it is no big deal. What he isn’t mentioning is the fact that Tech possibly could have played themselves into the BCS championship game if they had beaten GA (stranger things have happened). I think that was the most important game of their season to date and they blew it.

Here's REALITY for GT Fans

December 1st, 2009
12:54 pm

For you and CPJ to say the UGA game had little or no meaning is an ABSOLUTE LIE!!!

1. Coming into the game GT was ranked 7th in the BCS and with an upset or two could have still had an outside chance of making the big game.

Fact GT beats UGA – you stay at #7 behind UF, Bama, Texas, TCU,Cinn. and Boise, (Boise has been losing steam and you probably leapfrog them in the polls and land at #6)But still in good shape as the top 1 loss team, with two game to play. TCU & Boise are idle, and championship games carry weight.
Fact Even with UGA’s record GT gets needed percentage pts for quality win because it’s still a win over an SEC team, plus if you beat UGA the way you all THOUGHT you would, it would be around the same way UF did.
FACT: Although TCU & Boise are finished they’re SOS is weak enough for GT to pass them. All you would need to do to convince voters who would look for ANY reason to keep a non-BCS team out of the game is beat Clemson convincingly by more than the 4pts TCU beat them by and you pass them and Boise.
FACT:Cinn could very well lose to Pitt this weekend, Texas could get upset by Nebraska (Tex A&M nearly pulled it off) and UF or Bama has to lose in the SECC game. So where would that leave GT? hmmmm, #2 in the BCS and playing the winner of the UF/Bama game.
Now granted that’s a lot that would have to happen, and even if it all did, there’s no guarantee we don’t see a UF/Bama rematch, but we’ll never know for sure since you couldn’t take care of business.
So PLEASE spare us the “UGA game didn’t matter”, “been there done that” crap because like it or not UGA cost you a POTENTIAL shot at the National Championship. And anyone who doesn’t think the final polls wouldn’t have leap frogged GT over TCU and Boise to get a BCS conference team in the title game over a non-BCS team is delusional at best. So techies tell yourselves whatever you like, but there’s your reality. True UGA isn’t playing for an SEC title, True UGA isn’t going to a BCS or Major bowl for that matter, but it is VERY TRUE that we punked you in your own house and took away any shot you had of playing in the title game, and that my friends is you reality. Chew on it for a while, let it sink in, and then come back and tell me that the UGA game didn’t matter!!! LIARS!!!

I think Coach Richt had it right, in his remark about the annual Tech game: “- – it’s very, very big to us.” This is not to make excuses for Tech’s Saturday night loss – that loss was because of a good, well-prepared UGA team. But ever since the old, old days, it has seemed to
me that Georgia was more focused on winning the Big One.

Back then, Tech seemed focused on Notre Dame, or then-powerful Duke and Navy (Tech scheduled more intersectionally, UGA stayed in its own backyard). Nowadays, it’s “We’re in the ACC,” or, “we’ve got a championship game to win.” I don’t know, maybe it’s just me – - and Coach Richt.

No excuse for the venom that was in Mark richt’s face when he jumped on those boys for dumping him with “Gator”aid. That was not mere “anger” on his face. A year or so ago, I saw Urban Meyer give a look at an official that expressed something that could only be described as “evil.” It was an absolute look of “ill will.” Richt’s expression wasn’t to that degree but it was not anger but “rage.” No amount of words or apology can take that moment away or erase it from Evan’s mind. I bet years from now that he’ll remember that moment more than any other, but, I hope for his sake that I am wrong about that. Don’t let Richt’s moment of honesty take away your good thoughts of your years at UGA, Bryan. Richt, you’d better do a little soul searching. You were an embarrassment to UGA and yourself.

I like to see both programs do well since I’m from GA and attended neither school. In one sense though I think this win might be a bad think for Dog fans. So the rumor mill is starting to point to Tubs…

“‘But word around the campfire is they’re trying to put together a three year, $5 million deal for Tommy Tuberville to come as DC. And don’t start attacking me because it sounds so far-fetched. I’m just passing along what I heard yesterday from some supposed people in the “know”. I find it hard to swallow too, actually.’

“Tuberville was the defensive coordinator for Miami in the early 90’s when they were awesome. I heard that Tuberville came to Athens 3 different times about a month ago when he did that speaking engagement here. He and Richt are good friends, so it makes since for Richt to hire him as he ONLY HIRES his buddies. Plus, word around Tuberville’s campfire is he would rather come back as a coordinator before jumping back into head coaching.”

And from UGASPORTS.COM earlier this year…
Tommy Tuberville
Currently: Not coaching
Brief: Tuberville is an A-List college head coach whose 110-60 career record at Ole Miss and more famously Auburn (52-30 in SEC play) ended following the 2008 season when he left The Plains. Tuberville, 55, was named Walter Camp Coach of the Year after leading the Tigers to a perfect 13-0 record in 2004. Prior to his 13 seasons as an SEC head coach, he served as defensive coordinator at Texas A&M in 1994 and was a defensive assistant at Miami (1986-1993, the last year as defensive coordinator) and Arkansas State (1980-84). His many years as an assistant in south Florida, along with his time as an SEC head coach, give him a tremendous advantage on the recruiting trail.
Comment: Tuberville and Richt’s relationship dates back to the 1980s and Miami. Over recent years, there have been numerous stories of the two spending time together in the offseason. They were part of a team of coaches that traveled to the Middle East to visit U.S. service members in the summer of 2007. While at just 55, there is plenty left in Tommy’s tank, and there will certainly be a school sooner or later that would be thrilled to have him as their next head coach. Last summer, UGASports was told that there might be interest on the part of Tuberville in coaching again, but perhaps not as a head coach right away because he wanted to stay in the Southeast and for whatever reasons coaching a third SEC school was not immediately in the cards. The story from there went that Richt and Tuberville, or people extremely close to them, discussed Tuberville becoming the defensive coordinator at Georgia should things not go well and Martinez resign or otherwise need to be replaced. Most, if not all, defensive coaches would likely be changed in this scenario. – Steve Patterson

Mark Richt is a damn good coach and you do not get to be a head coach in the SEC at any level unless you know something about coaching. It is his call and if he does not have the authority to make his own decisions regarding his choice in coaching assistances then he too needs to leave.

Well to the people that think Tubs coming to Athens this morning on the radio he said he wants to be a head coach not a DC. He said he could not go that route again. He also siad PJ is the perfect person for ND. I think PJ will be ran out of Tech in two years. Reason being you have to beat the other team in the state. Fans will not put up with it. I would like for UGA to get a new ST coach and move Gardner to DC. If he is not the DC he will leave and that will kill UGA with high school coaches.

You are #2 in the state of Georgia. Got beat down by the worst UGA team in 13 years. You’ll lose this saturday too so get ready and start making excuses for that one too.

Mark promised at the end of the 2008 season that his priority would be to reduce/ control the mistakes and penalties for the 2009 season.

Mark is making the same type promises at the end of this season too. What exactly are his plans for keeping these promises. Mark has been given the opportunity of a life time to lead the UGA football team to success. I hope that still recognizes the honor and prestige associated with being the Head Coach at UGA. This is an opportunity that very few have experienced over the years and he needs to recognize the opportunity he has been given.

Lets see what path he sets for meeting these promises.

To all you tech fans…
(1) This single victory in no way redeems a bad season. However, it was only made as sweet as it was because of your fans and your players. Yall walk all over a TERRIBLE ACC and act like yall are God’s gift to earth. We were tired of hearing about the fluke last year, tired of hearing about how supposedly good you were this year, and that is the only bit of pride we take from this win. We understand how bad our football team has been all year. My question to you, what does that say about your team?
(2) Get your childish excuses out. I know the scoreboard didn’t reflect it because our guys left some points on the field, but yall got DOMINATED. We beat you at your own game, without the best WR in the nation, and you still make excuses. You had two weeks to prepare, at home (not that 40,000+ can be very intimidating), you boast the nations best RB ( held to 33 yards), this is the best team you have had since probably your 1990 season and you still can’t win. And I don’t want to hear any injury excuses, be more physical. Thats the answer, its simple, get tough.
(3) Your offense is talented, but it would never last in the SEC. Speed and discipline is the solution to your offense and it killed yall. Ask Miami.
(4) Everyone keeps wondering why UGA didn’t run the ball like this all season. The answer is simple, that Tech defense was the worst defense we faced all season, outside of Tennessee Tech of course. As a matter of fact, I definitely saw some similarities in those two defenses, I thought I was having deja vu.

*Just a side note: Under Caleb King’s eyes and Washan Ealey’s eyes, they had eye black with a phrase written which read, “I RUN THIS STATE” Don’t forget it Tech. Do some quick math for me…8 out of the last 9. That comes out to 88.8% What do you Techies call that one little W…whats the word, ANOMALY. Thats right.

The program is in good hands and Saturday was a good example. Many programs would have not gone into the rivals home stadium and played as well as Georgia did. I really feel we are close to having a TEAM. The last two years, the chemistry has not been there. I saw it Saturday. This coaching staff has taken all kinds of abuse, but they showed how to handle adversity and more importantly they coached the players to handle it. I hope they are all back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DamntheButcher-I think Coach Richt knows who to keep and who to fire. Thank you Damon Evans for allowing Coach Richt to run him own program. I believe the program will look back to Saturday as a turning point. I believe that maybe we had gotten too complacent. Firing Coordinators are not always the answer, ask Coach Tuberville. We have given up too many points, but I believe it was more than coaching. The chemistry on the last two teams has not been good. The Yankees are a good example of what I mean. They jelled together as a TEAM this year, even thought they were probably alittle more talented in other years. I liked the chemistry I saw Saturday night. The coaches and players showed alot of emotions and I believe Coach Richt’s reaction on the Gatorade bath explained it all. The DAWGS ARE BACK!

Tech sounds like they have been a world beater for years. Hold on guys, we know you have not been ranked in anything until this year for a long time. They remind me of a Johnny come lately. What should concern them most is the fact that Tech is ranked 37th in recruiting and that is about where they are ranked every year. Tech is going to continue to have a difficult time recruiting against Georgia and other SEC teams in this state plus some ACC teams. Tech made a lot of fun or our 4 and 5 star athletes, but they were the ones that beat you Saturday. Better talent usually wins. Go Dawgs

I love Richt, he has done wonders for GA, but its plain that his priorities are not with GA! THEY ARE FOR HIS FRIENDS WELFARE! Richt is good, but his heart is for his friends and NOT FOR GA! Basically, Richt is saying, we will get better, but with Willie, NOT SOMEBODY ELSE! You mark my word, Richt will try to sell A NEW SCHEME ON DEFENSE TO THE GA FANS. The problem at GA is the scheme they run. The 4-3 soft zone defense was a hot comotity 15 years ago, BUT NOT IN TODAYS OFFENSIVE SCHEMES! Its plain to see where Richt learned this scheme, He LEARNED IT AT FLORIDA ST! Hell Mickey Andrews is retiring because of it! THE DAMN DEFENSE SHOULD BE CALLED THE PREVENT YOU FROM WINNING SCHEME, because IT DONT WORK ANYMORE! IF GA KEEPS MARTINEZ AROUND, AFTER 30 YEARS I AM THROUGH WITH GA! I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE AND NEITHER CAN ANOTHER UGA DOG! ONE ALREADY DIED FROM IT! MAYBE WE DO NEED A ROBOTIC DOG WITH MARTINEZ AROUND! WE MIGHT RUN OUT OF TOMBS AT THE STADIUM!

After FL, AL, LSU and Old MS, there are 6 SEC teams with 7-5 records. BUT only three of these are 4-4 in SEC standings (TN, UGA, and MS). If MS goes to the Cotton bowl, then the Outback and Chick-fil-a should be picking from TN and UGA. The SEC works with all the bowls to get the best match ups possible. Logic says that the above should be true. But, you never know.

Anyone who thinks Mark Richt is going to be swayed whatsoever by demanding on a blog that he make changes is pretty clueless. Also, the only thing worse than having a weak link on the staff (not saying WM or MB are weak) would be having anyone dictate to the head coach what he should do. That’s why his title is Head Coach. Appreciate what Richt has done and trust that he will identify and fix the problem(s). If he doesn’t, someone else will. But it’s past time for Dog fans to support their coach.

That would be like putting lipstick on a pig to say that the ACC plays football and that one of them is therefore a great coach, when there is not even an ACC team in the Top 10 of the AP Poll and not even an ACC team in the Top 10 of the Coaches’ Poll. Again, this year as every year, you can clean up a pig, put a ribbon on its tail, spray it with perfume, but it’s still just a pig. He says he runs the ball exclusively, doesn’t have a single Tight End on the team, has 238 lbs. Left Tackle who can block for the run, but on the last 4 plays of the game, he yanks him, tells him he is not good enough to play the 4 most important plays of the entire season, and then passes the football with wounded ducks like he is playing an ACC “opponent.” It’s an oxymoron to say there is an ACC Coach of the Year, especially the day after both of the 2 top teams playing for the ACC Conference Chumpionship, lost to also-ran SEC teams to remove all luster from the ACC Chumpionship.

After all, it was not Coach Richt, but Paul Johnson all week prior to the game, who said that he Paul Johnson didn’t think that the UGA game was all that important to him personally. He has a worse Academic Progress Rate APR in football compared to UGA’s, for example; and made coaching decisions that leave you just wondering such as the Overtime Game at Home mind you against Weak Forest, who has a Losing Record by several games on the season, and he has 4th down with the chance to Tie at Home, and instead goes for it on 4th down. You go for the Tie at Home and win on the road, or against a better opponent. Weak Forest ? Very poor coaching decision. His Director of Player Personnel was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident, was found a few blocks away with pot in his car, and was drunk. This was what little Joey Hamilton did with his 1st Paul Johnson Paycheck as Paul Johnson’s Director of Player Personnel. Then, this week he has his wife interviewed and she states that she doesn’t even care about football. The NCAA states that Georgia Tech has played the Number 48 Strength of Schedule this season, Number 48 SoS Official NCAA SoS, and he tries to tell you besides us (who he doesn’t see the significance for and didn’t have Tech therefore ready for the game at all obviously), that he was undefeated against The SEC this year when in fact, he played 2 SEC Teams, the only 2 SEC teams not bowl eligible and Jacksonville State to add on to the nonentity of the ACC Conference Opponents. Whom did he beat ? Virginia Tech ? Virginia Tech is ranked ahead of Paul Johnson in both the AP Poll and the USA Today Coaches’ Poll at Number 11, and who did Virginia Tech beat besides no one except for Miami of Florida who beat no one at all, except for they are great because they beat Georgia Tech as the only ranked team they beat in the stinking ACC Conference of small itty bitty teeny weenie no one cares no one bothers including the wife of the Coach of the Year in the All Cupcake Conference. Last year, after Paul Johnson was named ACC Coach of the Year, he promptly went out this year and recruited the nation’s Number 49 Recruiting Class according to Rivals. Paul Johnson is at Number 31 according to Rivals for next year’s recruiting class. By ACC standards, that’s good ? Every receiver on the team, except 1, quit the team, and Paul Johnson spends all his time teaching Demaryius Thomas how to block instead of how to catch the ball on 4th down wide open with no one around you when the Coach calls 4 consecutive pass plays. For God’s sake, that is your best chance for success against your Arch Rival ? Obviously, not. The fact of the matter is that Georgia Tech’s Passing Offense is the Number 115 of 120 teams in Passing Offense. Those 4 plays cost you the game. Especially the dropped pass by the 1 player on the team remaining who is a receiver. Your Pass Efficiency Defense at Tech is Number 93 in the Nation, and the 1st Coaching Decision Paul Johnson made after hiring little Joey Hamilton with his drugs and DUI as his Director of Player Personnel was to FIRE JON TENUTA and replace him at Tech with Dave Wommack who had the job of linebacker’s coach at S Miss. Excuse me, that coaching decision has been an abject failure too taking Tech from Number 1 in the Nation in Sacks to Number 60 today against ACC “opponents.” Wommack’s Total Defense according to the NCAA too, is Number 52 in the Nation against the Number 48 NCAA Strength of Schedule. Miserable. Tackles for Loss, Wommack is Number 90 in the Nation. While Paul Johnson serves as his Own Offensive Coordinator, to eschew the run on the last 4 plays and throw to a guy who only practices how to block and really only threw to him on 4th down only, the Net Punting at Tech is Number 44 in the Nation against this weak schedule strength of out-of-conference and in-conference “opponents” besides us, and is Number 43 in the Nation on Kick-off Returns against his soft schedule. Rushing Defense, Paul Johnson is Number 47 against this cupcake schedule. Josh Nesbitt in his 3 years at Georgia Tech has thrown for a Grand Total of 123 pass completions of which only 12 are TDs with 11 Interceptions and with everything on the line for the last 4 plays, Paul Johnson says the way to win against what he considers not an important football game he told UGA all week long against a not important opponent Paul Johnson repeated all week long for 2 weeks preparing for UGA, Paul Johnson throws 4 incomplete passes. Oh, yeah, he is freaking great. You can’t make a silk purse from a sow’s ear.

Big Mike, he is the best in the country. GT’s Demaryius Thomas is good too, but Green is better. UGA will consistently recruit better than GT and that is why they will never be able to compete with us. Paul Johnson would probably do wonders with half the talent we have, but he doesn’t and failed at winning with what he had. Get over it, Tech fans. Good coach, dumb fans. I actually like watching your football team but some you guys are making it pretty hard. The truth is that because of our recruiting, no matter how bad a season we can have, the next can only be better.

That is kind of being a homer ain’t it? Thomas might be first receiver selected come next April or one of the top few, so not sure how Green could possibly be better. Green has 5 stars on his head, but hasn’t done enough yet to back them up. He was solid this year, but not great. He might end up being great, but no one else in America, outside of UGA fans and coaches, would take Green over a stronger and more sure-handed Thomas. There was a quote in earlier article by CPJ stating that Thomas might have dropped only two catchable passes all year. Green is not yet in that lofty category of big, strong, fast and sure-handed, but he is above average for such a young player.

Amazing how so many DawgFans who have COACHES all their life! How many of you danged hypocrites would last 60 seconds on CMR’s playing field?
Quoting the late Lewis Grizzard, “Hey, I am Georgia born, Georgia raised, and by the Grace of God… a DawgFan.” DID any of you watch the Texas A&M play Texas? I was a great game! I saw LOTS of Georgia defensive schemes played out on that field. #3 Texas is danged fortunate to have won that game. Point is, CWM has a solid defensive program going at UGA. I know that a Monday morning quarterback is a lousy excuse as a player. Games have an ebb and flow that’s all it’s own. Sure, I would like to see UGA get better at a game; that’s irrelevant to CWM.. who is coaching some great players, by the way. There are so many variables that happens in ANY game that you cannot plan for, hope for, pray for. A team cannot know just how certain situations pan out: The only thing any coach can do is to coach the basics and hope the players will finish the drill. The Texas A&M and #3 Texas teams showed lots of cohones on both side of the ball. I mention this because Texas, who has a former DAWG coaching one the sidelines. In fact, he is the “coach-in-waiting” whenever Mack Brown steps aside. Think of it this way: There are only so many reasons ANY coach can predict. But, you learned this as a player yourself, did’t you. You DID play in the NFL didn’t you. What? No NFL playing time? But surely you played college football! No? You didn’t even play in highschool? Middle school? Peewee? But the attitude you bring to this blog must mean something, doesn’t it. What? You don’t have a clue about coaching, playing, team spirit? Why in the cat hair do you think your miserable means something to CMR? Be generous, won’t you? IF you never played a down, never ran the ball, never blocked, never tackled, you became an EXPERT at coaching, why won’t some team hire YOU? Surely, some of these teams are missing out by not hiring YOU to coach for them. No? Shaddup!

UGA is not below Ole Miss in the bowl pecking order.

Ole Miss is 4-4 in The SEC, the same as UGA. Ole Miss played Schedule Strength according to The NCAA of Number 59 and UGA SoS Number 6.

Ole Miss LOST to South Carolina and LOST to Auburn, both of whom UGA beat. They beat the vols and LSU, both of whom UGA lost to. This is clearly a total wash in The SEC since both beat Arkansas.

UGA lost to 7-5 Kentucky, a bowl team in its own rights, while Ole Miss lost to Missisippi State who is 5-7, even with that win, and therefore THIS IS NOT A WASH in The SEC alone.

Outside The SEC, Ole Miss saw fit like Georgia Tech to “schedule” Southeast Louisiana State college, Northern Arizona whatever that is too for two (2) 1-AA teams in one year Ole Miss scheduled, Number 115 in the BCS Rankings Memphis who is 2-10, and LOSING RECORD ALSO NOT A BOWL TEAM UAB who is the Number 86 team in the BCS Rankings.

Ole Miss played FIVE (5) games against teams NOT IN A BOWL GAME. 5.

UGA only played 3 teams who are not in a bowl game. 3.

Ole Miss played two more games against nobody opponents than UGA did.

Thus, SoS # 59 for Ole Miss and # 6 for UGA.

There is NO WAY that Ole Miss is higher in the pecking order than UGA is, especially with the way we travel.

I think we are getting a good bowl opponent.

Ole Miss beat Number 14 in the Coaches’ Poll LSU who is Number 15 in the AP Poll.

UGA beat Number 12 in the Coaches’ Poll Georgia Tech who is Number 12 in the AP Poll.

No one would look at that body of work and surmise that Ole Miss is ahead of UGA in the pecking order.

And, in fact, the BCS Rankings show clearly that UGA is Number 29 and Ole Miss BCS # 32.

I have already and will more than happy again to provide the facts which are quite clear that only Florida, Alabama and LSU are ahead of UGA in The SEC Bowl Pecking Order. SEC has 10 bowl eligible bowl teams and 9 bowl tie-ins. UGA is Number 4. We get a good Bowl Opponent, and it will be a BETTER BOWL OPPONENT THAN GEORGIA TECH GETS.

Here is all you have to do to be Coach of the Year in the sorry ACC :

(1).At Home against a team who Lost to Kentucky at their own home, and have lost 5 games themselves already, with a point spread of 7 and a half points, you 1st get mad at your Offense, storm on the field and cry time-out when that is the only time-out you have left with 2 minutes to go in the game. Sit there during the time-out and figure out that you are all wrong in running every play. And, call 4 consecutive TD bomb passes toward the end zone when your worthless Passing Offense is not only the 115th worst of the 120 teams in the nation, but in addition the QB you ask to throw said 4 passes in a row to end the game is throwing to receivers who have been told they don’t catch the ball but block in your offense, and for good measure this said QB in 34 games played has thrown exactly 12 TD passes total and 11 interceptions in 3 years.
(2).Hire as your Director of Player Personnel none other than little Joey Hamilton, who takes his 1st Paul Johnson paycheck, gets drunk, buys drugs, and then leaves the scene of the accident he caused.
(3).Have an Academic Progress Rate (APR) worse than UGA football players for your football players.
(4).Be named Coach of the Year last year too, then promptly parlay that in to the Rivals’ Number 49 Recruiting Class this year.
(5).Follow that up with being named Coach of the Year in the Stinking ACC again this year, a conference which did not have last year and does not have again this year 1 single team in the Top 10 of the AP Poll nor in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll, and parlay that into a recruiting class Ranked Number 31 by Rivals’ this year.
(6). Exclaim all week long this last week and the week before while you have your off-week that your # 1 Arch Rival is a game you don’t care about.
(7). Further follow that up with stating that beating UGA is no priority at all.
(8).Have your wife interviewed on TV, and have her say to the world that she doesn’t even like football.
(9).Send Wes Durham to do damage control by having Wes Durham state that it is not Paul Johnson but UGA fans who said that we don’t care about losing to such a sorry football program that seven (7) times in your history of Georgia Tech football that Tech has gone the entire season and bowl games and won not 1 game, 0 wins 7 seasons.
(10).Have to make a pre-game announcement that the Tech fans are asked again to please refrain for the 1st time in their lives not to throw whiskey bottles onto the playing field where the opponents you don’t care about beating and your own team are playing a football game the coach himself says is not important.
(11).Have the Athletics Director state that if fans will just please buy a ticket to any one game now mind you, that Georgia Tech will provide you with 2 hot dogs, 2 Coca-Colas, 2 bags of boiled peanuts and a parking pass.
(12).Realizing then the only people who want to buy tickets to Grant Field so-named in the City The Commander in Chief of the Union Army ordered burned to the ground mind you, are UGA fans, the AD announces that if you want to buy ticket to the UGA-Tech game, you have to buy at least a 4-game package of tickets.
(13).Announce that you are UNDEFEATED AGAINST THE SEC all season long, having in fact scheduled the only 2 teams in The SEC who are NOT bowl eligible.
(14).Send all your Tech fans (both of them) to every WebPages they can locate to brag to the world how Tech will utterly destroy UGA and run up 50 plus points and hope to win by 212 to nothing, and then have all said Tech fans (both of them) for 5 solid days thereafter, fail to have the pair to come back to in and take their medicine.
(15).Worse yet, have them say oh it was the SEC refs who cost Tech the game.
(16).It is the nasty plays by UGA players when Tech chop blocks on every play and on its 1 long run all night long it was Tech Guilty of not 1 but 2 blocks from behind injuring Bulldog football players who did not come back into the game from the injury. But, neither of those was called, as obvious as both were, but The SEC refs called the game in favor of UGA not Tech.
(17).Schedule Strength of Schedule Number 48 in the nation according to The NCAA.
(18).Schedule in fact Six (6) Teams, half your games against opponents who are not even eligible to play in a bowl game while UGA played half as many 3 not eligible for a bowl game.
(19).Play in a conference so sorry that it is the laughing stock of the nation just before you play the Climpsum Farmers in the ACC chumpionship game, both losing to also-ran SEC teams, and send your fans back to the Internet to proclaim that UGA is jealous Tech has such a game, no one will watch and no one will attend. Least of all Tech fans.
(20).At Home against lousy Losing Record by Several Games Weak Forest, in Overtime Mind You, on 4th down, instead of kicking the tying field goal, call instead to go for it in a all or nothing go for broke coaching “decision.”
(21).Have every receiver but 1 quit the team, and all the prospects who are receivers tell you they don’t want the scholarship to play in this offense.
(22).Tell every Tight End, you don’t want them either.
(23).Start a 238 lbs. Left Tackle. Play him the whole game, then with 2 minutes to go and you taking over at mid-field after we miss a 55-yard field goal with time-out you can call, and tell the guy to sit on the bench, that he isn’t good enough with the game on the line to play Left Tackle.
(24).Tell the “Quarterback” who in 34 games at Tech has thrown a grand total of 12 touchdown passes and has 11 interceptions, that you want him to throw a TD pass on the 4 final plays of the game.
(25).Find the 1 team you actually beat all season long, Virginia Tech actually ranked ahead of Georgia Tech in both the AP Poll and the USA Today Coaches’ Poll at Number 11 for Virginia Tech but say he is the Coach of the Year but no its Paul Johnson. Right.
(26).Have the Number 115 Passing Offense in the NCAA of 120 teams.
(27).Fire Jon Tenuta and hire instead the linebacker’s coach at S Miss as your Defensive Coordinator then wonder aloud why no one wants to be recruited here, like they could get passing grades anyway at Georgia Tech.
(28).Have said DC Dave Wommack be Number 90 in the nation at tackles for a loss, Number 60 in Sacks, Number 93 Pass Efficiency Defense, Number 52 Total Defense, Number 55 Scoring Defense, and Number 56 Pass Defense then tell UGA fans after you LOSE, that the better team didn’t win the game. If Tech could have played Defense, UGA would not have won.
(29).Have it actually be your offense that loses the game calling 4 pass plays for a team that has proven beyond doubt that Tech cannot pass the football, and then send your fans to the Internet again to exclaim that oh Tech is the Best in the Nation and especially Josh Nesbitt at Passing the Damn Football.
(30).Tell your Arch Rival they are NOT IMPORTANT and the Game is NOT IMPORTANT for the entire 2-week period prior to the game, then wonder why you Lost 30-24, and say oh it’s only 6 points, close, almost won, could have won, refs called bad game, our QB got hurt never mind he came back in the game and LOST THE GAME for you trying to do what he has never done throw a TD pass, UGA players got away with penalties Tech sure didn’t, and now we will beat your butts next year – just wait.

Do all 30 of these and you can be Coach of the Year in the ACC All Cupcake Conference and get as your reward to play in a meaningless game against an opponent who is not even ranked in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll Top 25 when you have already played them yet Climpsum Farmers have not beat any Top 25 team themselves except for Miami and Miami beat no Top 25 team but Georgia Tech.

You can clean up a pig, put a ribbon on its tail, spray it with perfume, but it’s still just a pig.

Did I read this correctly? Coach Richt, you are a good man but isn’t it just a little bit dishonest to say that Tech “destroyed” your privet hedges? So this is your justification for digging up our logos? One more question: What would you think if CPJ allowed Tech players to dig up your logo at Sanford?

StingDoc

Richt learned his trade from Daddy Bowden & Mickey Andrews where “Code Reds” were ordered on opposing QB’s such as Florida’s Danny Wuerffel and Tech’s Joe Hamilton. They even announced to an ESPN side-line walker that they were going to “knock Joe Hamilton out of the game” and did so with several late hits. This is how FSU beat Tech in several very close games. So it is no surprise that Richt ordered “Code Reds” on Nesbitt both last year, which knocked Nesbitt out of the game on a dirty late hit, and this year which cost Tech the game.

Georgia has a long tradition of thuggery.

Georgia fans threw rocks at Tech players & fans after Tech won the first game of the series in Athens in 1893.

Dooley issued a “Code Red” and a “Bounty” for any player knocking Eddie Lee Ivery out in 1978 enabling Georgia to win 29-28 & this player boasted about it afterwards.

Georgia is a team of dirty playing thugs which is commensurate with their trailer-trash-talking, illiterate, redneck fans.

I would rather lose with Honor than win with Dirty Plays designed to injure the opposing team’s star players.

Tech fans, players, & coaches can take Pride in that Tech won the very first game, has won more National Championships than Georgia, holds the longest win streak of 8 games under Bobby Dodd, won by the largest margin of 48-0, has had more illustrious coaches than Georgia, and is currently ranked 10th in the BCS poll.

I concur with StingDoc. The following is copied from Wikipedia:

During and after the game, disgruntled Georgia fans threw rocks and other debris at the Georgia Tech players and chased the victorious Blacksmiths back to their awaiting train.[19]

“ At one time early in the last half of the game, a stone was hurled at one of the Tech players, striking him a cruel blow in the head… At another time, one of the Athenians drew a knife and threatened one of the Techs’ better players… The Techs were also poked and gouged with canes on plays toward the boundary lines… Some of the crowd had the privilege of the gridiron equally with the players.[18] ”

Tech’s admission standards prevent them from signing all these thug type athletes that uga brings in. If they could recruit those players, Tech would beat UGa 9 of 10 times. But, the Tech degree is worldclass, compared to the University of Football in Athens, where anyone graduates with half a brain. Academics > athletics!

MisterT

“I am not saying that Tech fans are.”

If you ain’t saying Tech fans are classy, I will say it for you. Georgia Tech fans (both of you) are the least classy fans in all of America with a richly deserved history of being in fact the lowest class of B.S. in college football.

As for your statement about Superiority, I do believe Coach Richt is 8-1 against Georgia Tech and that 8 of the 9 years as well, he has enjoyed the higher ranked football team in the Final AP Poll.

Historically, Georgia Tech has had 60 LOSSES put on you by us, more than any other college has inflicted upon any other college in 1-A football, except for 4 other programs.

Tech has had 7 seasons where Tech won -0- games in football all season.

Your conference is a stinking joke.

Your schedule is a hapless wonder of half the games 6 against teams that are not even bowl eligible.

Half your games, cupcakes.

You beat 1 team all season long, and they are ranked ahead of you.

What does that tell you ?

Tech fans have continued the tradition of coming into our blogs and writing nasty stuff.

I am only too happy to reply.

Your statements of Tech superiority in Academics, claiming to be Number 35 in the U.S. News and World Report Rankings of National Universities, is so passé with UGA Number 58. Tech Number 35 is great ? I’ve heard it all now.

I think I will go log onto the Tech blogs again, reading this post from you Ms. T. Get a pair and quit acting like you are somebody. You are nothing but a group of poor losers and even worse winners. You deserve everything you get.

Tech fan hitting an UGA fan in the face, what total B.S. you wimpy nerds. Try growing a pair for a change among any of your Tech fans, and have them come back to where you write your B.S. about your academics of your student-athletes which are among the lowest in the nation, own up to what your record is against UGA in athletics, and own up for saying how you would utterly destroy UGA 6 days ago, not that 1 of you have come back since and offered ANYTHING but excuses the refs cheated for UGA, your QB got injured on a dirty play, Tech felt the game was as unimportant compared to the Orange Bowl and Conference Chumpionship Game, if not for a couple of funny bounces of the ball on the turnovers, Tech would’ve could’ve should’ve won.

When are you going to fire Dave Wommack S Miss linebackers’ coach, now your Defensive Coordinator for him allowing UGA to whoop your butts right up the gut 30-24 ?

Tech played 6 games against teams who are not even eligible for a bowl game.

6.

Was Tech’s Paul Johnson joking when he said Tech fans should hit UGA fans in the face ?

You play in a lousy conference.

You played the worst out-of-conference schedule in America.

You brag you were undefeated against The Mighty SEC before you played us, when in fact you played the only 2 SEC teams who are not bowl eligible.

And, Jacksonville State.

The ACC has 2 bowls now with not even a team to send to them.

No other BCS conference lost to even one 1-AA team.

ACC lost to two (2) teams from the 1-AA.

Your conference Chumpionship Game pits 2 teams coming off losses to two 6-5 SEC teams.

Georgia Tech’s Academic Progress Rate does not seem to be a problem for Georgia Tech, even though it is worse than UGA’s APR in football, as it is quite obvious that Paul Johnson IS bringing in players who cannot pass the grade at Tech.

It is really rich that UGA fans have no class coming from the likes of what we put up with from the Tech fans in our UGA blog.

Tech fans here all day yesterday said that they don’t see how UGA fans feel that UGA destroyed Tech when we only beat you by 6 points, when in fact it was the Tech fans that said Tech would destroy UGA.

Losing by 6 points, is destroying UGA, Tech fans ?

Please.

Paul Johnson, Saint,

He has not handled this Georgia Tech Georgia game correctly at all.

First, with 2 weeks to prepare, he insists that the game is unimportant and that beating UGA is also not important.

Then, he has his wife interviewed and she says that she doesn’t even like football.

Then, during the game, he calls time-out so that he can throw out his entire coaching scheme and throw 4 passes in a row to end the game.

He also, you recall had put in Jabo Shaw and called for him to throw the ball deep.

Then, after the game he insists he is correct that Losing to UGA is also not important.

And, then he is interviewed live and comes up with this jewel, tell the Tech fans who cannot handle having to eat crow about the slaughter they guaranteed in fact being a 6-point loss, that they should just hit the UGA fans in the mouth.

Now, he is back to down-playing the game itself again, saying still that the game was unimportant.

I’d say that Paul Johnson wins the Lame Kitten Award for The UGA Georgia Tech Game from start to finish.

How about you ?

But praising Jones for his coverage at the end of the game if a little bit much.
Interference on the 2nd down pass when the ball was almost intercepted (foot on line).
Then 4th and 10 and the receiver was wide open for 1st down and to get out of bounds, And you coach praises the coverage. Receiver flat out dropped the ball and it had nothing to do with good coverage.

Thoughts on the Morning After
9:00 am November 29, 2009, by Chris Boggs
• “Like I mentioned earlier…Nesbitt had his ankle wrenched early in the game. We could have very well lose him for the two remaining games of the schedule. I guess if you can’t stop someone, you hurt them…
• When Nesbitt got hurt it seemed to take the air out of the stadium. I’ll admit that I started worrying more about the ACC title game and BCS game at that point. Rumors in the stands that it was a high ankle sprain really made me nervous.”

I agree with StingDoc: Georgia is a Dirty Team. I would prefer to root for a team which plays clean football than win with a team which decides to take out Tech’s key player.
