Reshad Jones’ last game between the hedges?

ATHENS — One day after Georgia junior linebacker Rennie Curran acknowledged that Saturday’s game against Kentucky could be his last in Sanford Stadium, junior safety Reshad Jones said: “I’ll probably have similar thoughts as Rennie.”

Jones, who like Curran is eligible to enter the 2010 NFL draft, said he’ll weigh the possibility after Georgia’s season.

Jones said he’ll ask the NFL draft advisory committee, which provides underclassmen with assessments of their draft potential, for an evaluation.

“I’m going to send my [paperwork] in and see what I get back from there,” Jones said Wednesday. “The most accurate way of making my decision is . . . to see what they think and what prediction they have.

“I say it’s kind of 50-50 right now,” he added, “until I get my [report] back where I can make a solid decision.”

Jones flirted with entering the 2009 NFL draft but decided at the last hour to stay in school.

I will be very surprised if he goes pro after the year he has had. No way he would go very high.

This is exactly our problem. Players are more focused on the NFL than actually doing a good job in college. Jones is horrible – I can’t count on two hands the number of plays that he has gotten burned on. They need to focus on winning at UGA – accomplish that before you worry about your NFL future. Continuing to recruit players like this is part of the problem – case in point Stafford and Moreno. It was clear their focus was on future draft potential all of last year.

SCDawg I totally agree your post. Why did Stafford and Moreno care if they lose to FL….they are getting a big payday in the NFL…..

I say let Mr. Jones go, he is part of the problem in the secondary. Pretty much cost us the yech game last year by not tackling.

Reshad has “Danny Ware” syndrome. Danny definitely needed to stay another year to increase his stock. However, he had to leave b/c he would have never gotten any time to play since Knowshon Moreno was coming off his redshirt. If Reshad stays next year, he will become a backup to Bacarri and the other young DBs that are clearly more talented.
Reshad will join the ranks of Mudcat Elmore, Brandon Miller, and Jasper Sanks as sure-fire All-Americans that became sure-fire busts. That said, I wish him the best of luck.

jason “He will need to excell in all facets of his game, just to get noticed”. Jason, Rennie is a Butkus Award nominee of 2009, so he’s been noticed as a junior nationally by what he’s done on the field.

eddy “They are average college players”, A leading tackler in the SEC and a Butkus Award 2009 nominee is NOT an average college player.

verge “AJ Green what are you waiting on?” Uh, verge, please, get a clue. AJ is a sophomore, not a junior, and thus inelligible for the draft. Duh!

Rennie has been called “too small” for as long as I can remember, so I consider such comments to be errant nonsense. He’s a young man with class who is headed for success. His parents, incidentally, are Nigerian, not Haitian. Best wishes to him. I just wish he played better pass defense.

Bradley G, I bet you would not call Mudcat a bust to his face! I have a problem with you calling out Mudcat on this one, his situation was totally different!!!! Back Surgery, this kids well man now come to UGA with a herniated disk in his back and with an injury like that, it’s not often a kids comes back from that, and all the other injuries he had when he was here. But I admire the guy for sticking around when he could have said the hell with it and quit. I saw him last week at the Auburn game, he is a great fuc@ing guy with a big heart, and he is doing well after football, he is teaching and coaching at Berkmar High School in Gwinnett. So when you holla out bust he don’t belong in that group, his body did not let this guy do what his heart wanted to do, and that was play Ball for the dawgs. He is still my all-time favorite dawg hands down. Yes he was A 5 star player and All-American, what were you Bradley G. Can’t nobody take that from him, and to all yall fake azz fans find a new team!!!!!

Yeah I had back surgery on herniated disk in my back, and yeah I was a dirrerent player after that, I was not the same douche bag, and what is our moto FINISH THE DRILL and that is what I did. Yeah I was a 5 Star player and All-American and can’t nobody take that away from me, I know what I was, What in the hell were you and what have you done, I don’t even know you, you fake azz fans kill me, but I love you guys that are loyal to the dawgs. This epidemic is only getting worse by the year. Nobody has any pride anymore, not to mention throwing away a college degree. It’s all about money. It makes me sick quite frankly. I’m so tired of hearing about it every year. As far as these two in particular, obviously Rennie’s a great player but clearly undersized for the NFL, although that’s not something that would keep him from being great at that level, just maybe assuring him being drafted later or not at all. Jones shows signs of being great, but he’s way too inconsistent right now. Needs another year to develop and mature and show them what he has because quite frankly, he’s not lived up to his hype yet. Plus, the selfish side of me wants them back next year as seniors. Just my opinion here.
Go Dawgs!

If I was a 5-star athlete out of college that didn’t even sniff the starting lineup, I would be called a bust. The assumptions made about what I think of his character are entirely yours. As I said about Reshad (who, as you remember I also call a bust), I wish Mudcat and Brandon and Jasper the best of luck.

Both “Mark Richt” and “Mudcat” were explaining why he was a bust, yet are upset for my calling him a bust?

“Mudcat” – I love your last line, “Find me this weekend in Athens, I will show you a bust!!!!!!!!!” That is too funny!

I would try to leave to if I were Jones. He hasn’t stopped a pass all year. He has got no chance if the scouts watch his tape. I think he is about 100% on giviing up touchdowns.

The question is – are they MORE or LESS likely to stay if Martinez leaves? Maybe they don’t want to be a part of a struggling defense again and are ready for the big bucks. If we get a great new coordinator, perhaps they’ll be convinced to try the fresh start.

I think Jones and Curran maybe see the writing on the wall for next year. With all the young promising talent in those positions their playing time is going to go down. Guess they figured they had better get out now while their stock is a little higher than it will be next year.

I would not blame Rennie Curran at all for leaving. He has been nothing short of great. The SEC puts far more players in the NFL than any other conference in college football. Rennie has been the second leading tackler this year in the SEC and finished second last year as well. Let him get his money if he can. As for Reshad, I doubt he would be taken in the first two rounds unless he kills it at the combine. He should come back in my opinion.

Jones. you definitely need to stay. Your pass coverage is not only bad it has cost Ga some games as well. Your habit of bumping someone out of bounds instead of tackling them also has hurt us. Remember the tech game, bump missed, touchdown for tech. I know Paul Johnson will hate to see you go.

Dawg Fud

both should leave

despite not having great junior seasons, it is not certain that they will have a new DC next year.

Jones is as talented a safety we have ever recruited. however, it is painfully obvious he has never been coached up. he has for more natural ability than Blue but Van Gorder turned Blue into the most feared DB in the conference.

Martinez has not helped Reshad in his development.

no need for either to come back.

take the money and pursue your dreams at the next level. i wish you both the best.

Rennie Curran is an excellent player with a nose for the ball. I would love for him to come back. I think he would be about a 3rd round pick. I think he can move up to 2nd round if improves a few things next year. He will never be first round because of his size. Not sure what being in 2nd round over 3rd round would do for his $$$ so not sure what he should do. Reshad Jones is the exact opposite of Curran in that he has the physical size and abilities but could really improve his status by learning how to play his position a lot better. Either way I wish them both the best of luck. Go dawgs!

Nick, what the hell are you talking about. “Throw away a degree”??? DUHHHHHH. What 22 year old is going to get a job that pays millions.
Lets see here, the goal of a degree is to get you prepared to get into a job so you can make more money than without a degree. Someone has just offered you millions of dollars… MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!! What is wrong with some you? Who would honestly stay in school when by leaving you’re set for life?

After watching film of you guys the one thing that I noticed about your defense is that you have no NFL TALENT. Your defense will be worst defense we go up against this year. Most of your players are always out of position & guest what happens when you do that against us–TOUCHDOWN.I did notice that RC makes alot of tackles but most of them are 7-8 yards downfield.Very rarely do you see him stuff the run at the line.Should be a good tuneup game for us before the ACC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. I will try & keep it to about 400yards rushing but my guys keep telling me they want to put 500 yards rushing on you guys.

Good Luck & your young DB’s are much better then your senior & Junior DB’s

“ Wes Bunting of NationalFootballPost.com lists Dwyer, a junior, as the best running back on the board and the No. 8 overall NFL prospect. Bunting called Dwyer “a violent runner who exhibits good vision between the tackles and has the initial burst to separate from defenders at the second level.”

There must be some mistake. Dwyer plays in that “gimmick”, “high school”, “triple option” system that no blue chip recruit with aspirations of playing in the NFL would ever consider………………Hahahaha. Jones is a mediocre college player who happens to look good in uniform. But his play at Georgia would earn him serious bench time at most SEC schools (Georgia still plays Bryan Evans after all). I can’t imagine him being an impact player in the NFL. If he turns out to be even a decent pro, that will be a huge indictment of the current coaching staff at UGA.
