Athens — Florida coach Urban Meyer made a confession on the SEC coaches’ teleconference this week: He once was an avid Georgia football fan.
“I was a Herschel Walker fan, like nuts about him, when I grew up,” Meyer said. “He was [at Georgia] right at the point I was in high school [in Ohio], and I was actually a huge Georgia Bulldog fan because of Herschel Walker.”
As you’ve probably heard, Meyer’s quarterback, Tim Tebow, is one rushing touchdown shy of matching Walker’s SEC career record of 49, achieved in 1980-82. Tebow could be in position to tie or break the record against Walker’s old team next week — unless he does both against Mississippi State on Saturday night.
Said Meyer: “Since my era was Herschel Walker, [I'm] a little bit –- and I don’t want to say it too publicly –- in awe of here’s Tim Tebow, a guy I get to see every day, and you mention him in a rushing record [with] Herschel Walker. That’s pretty powerful.”
Couple of other notes:
– A.J. Green said he was “surprised” that the SEC this week suspended the officiating crew that incorrectly called an excessive-celebration penalty against him late in the Georgia-LSU game. The suspension came after the SEC found that the same crew incorrectly called a personal-foul penalty against Arkansas late in last week’s loss to Florida. Asked after practice Thursday if he finds any vindication in the league action, Green said: “No, not really. Just take it as it comes. . . . It didn’t give us the win.”
– After a 6 a.m. weight-lifting session and classes Friday, Georgia’s players will be off until reconvening at 6 p.m. Sunday. They’ll practice in full pads Sunday night to finish installing the Florida game plan.

I just got back from Gainesville. I am sunburned. It was 88 every day or 89, and the Stone Crabs who grow their other claw back in a year, are everywhere.
The SPEED TRAPS between here and JAX are MOSTLY in Florida, along with the obvious SPEED TRAPS before you get to Valdosta.
Florida, obviously, can be beat.
Herschel did it in 3 years and didn’t get to choose to always run it himself when at the goal line. Hershel also went on to end up Number 3 in history of the NFL is All Purpose Yards; Tim Tebow obviously NEVER WILL.
It will be fascinating to see how many times Tim Tebow gets away with his continuous CELEBRATING he does on every play.
Florida’s Strength of Schdule for all games this regular season is Number 62 in the country.
62 SoS.

JAX is closing most of the places to go get drunk this week.
The Police are OUT IN FORCE.
In Florida.
And, the typical SPEED TRAPS in South Georgia, who have NO OTHER SOURCE OF REVENUE except this 1 game, where their PRIMARY SOURCE of revenue is once again ARRESTS.
Florida has a really easy schedule, again this year.
Florida plays 2 teams with a winning record, LSU and South Carolina.
Florida will NOT beat South Carolina either.
Florida is NOT ranked Number 1 in any of the Official BCS Computer Polls.
And, Tim Tebow will NEVER be a Quarterback in the NFL.

Bobby Dodd did not have the obnoxious georgia fans back in his day that I have had to deal with in my mine (22 straight years). Otherwise, he would have kicked Wally’s Butt in public many times too.
The problem that you and the rest of the dog nation are having is:
1. I am NOT lying in any of my posts.
2. I DO have respect for the Georgia coaches and players individually
3. I DO NOT have respect the dog nation collectively
4. I have no beef with any other school
5. You are being forced to learn a new role and not liking it. It’s like moving from the bedroom to the outdoor dog house for the first time. Similarly, it’s like moving from a Florida Bowl in January to one in Idaho or wherever Weedwackerville is (Poland I think).
6. Georgia Tech football players and coaches do NOT fear Georgia players and coaches any more.
7. Tech Nation does not fear the dog nation anymore!
8. The koolaid isn’t working for you any more
9. georgia = Florida & Tech’s bitch.
10. You know I’m right when I say “at Georgia you strive to fit the mold/At Tech we design and build the molds”
Enjoy your “glorious” trip down to Jacksonville Mr. Red Bull 77. Hope you “destroy some property tonite” or something stupid like that. Lol. I went down last year and it was the absolute most lopsided game I have ever seen in entire life, seriously. “Total Domination” until the last few seconds of the game when they apparently let you score so the Florida Fans (only ones left in the stadium) could give YOUR team a standing ovation-PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
((((( 49-10 ))))) Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

As usual the Dawgs have their tails between their legs. True Herschel is great and they are two different players. But Tebow will come away from all of this with a record and an education. If you have ever heard Herschel talk then you would know all he got was the record. Let the Whining begin. Go Gators!

No conspiracy?? Two weeks in a row a missed call late in the game decided the game in Florida’s favor, hmmmmmmm… must just be a coincedence right??

Funniest part of this story: Urban Meyer was in HIGH SCHOOL last time Georgia won a national championship.

Idiots, living in the past; Tebow could be a running back and be almost as successful as he is now with more carries per game; let’s see could Hershel be a QB? Chew on that Dawgs.

gatorman,
Seems to me that you gators are more obsessive with the past than anyone else. You all persist in trying to prove a point that a QB in 2009 is better than a RB in 1980. The RB in 1980 got 22-26 touch’s of the ball a game. The QB in 2009 is given the entire game of handling the ball and making plays. No one and I mean NO ONE is taking away from what the QB of 2009 has accomplished in his career. To try and even suggest the RB of 1980 would be a QB is ludicrous. The game in the past was a totally different game than todays. More and more teams are turning to a running option QB in 2009 instead of the pro style that was the norm in 1980. If the RB of 1980 wanted to be a QB then he would have learned that position earlier and become recruited as such. He didn’t so the question is mute. Enjoy your team and the players accomplishments cause in about 20 or thirty years his records will be broken and every gator fan will scream foul and try and compare the past with the present……..again.
Yellow Fuzz,
God son take your vast experienced 22 years and go do something productive. You are just like every 21 and 22 year old I know. Childish, immature and still sucking on mommy’s breast. Once you hit the real world of you providing for yourself and not relying on daddy’s money then maybe you will have a clue. Grow up and act like a man and no the spoiled child you project here.
