When Urban Meyer was ‘a huge Georgia Bulldog fan’
Athens — Florida coach Urban Meyer made a confession on the SEC coaches’ teleconference this week: He once was an avid Georgia football fan.
“I was a Herschel Walker fan, like nuts about him, when I grew up,” Meyer said. “He was [at Georgia] right at the point I was in high school [in Ohio], and I was actually a huge Georgia Bulldog fan because of Herschel Walker.”
As you’ve probably heard, Meyer’s quarterback, Tim Tebow, is one rushing touchdown shy of matching Walker’s SEC career record of 49, achieved in 1980-82. Tebow could be in position to tie or break the record against Walker’s old team next week — unless he does both against Mississippi State on Saturday night.
Said Meyer: “Since my era was Herschel Walker, [I'm] a little bit –- and I don’t want to say it too publicly –- in awe of here’s Tim Tebow, a guy I get to see every day, and you mention him in a rushing record [with] Herschel Walker. That’s pretty powerful.”
Couple of other notes:
– A.J. Green said he was “surprised” that the SEC this week suspended the officiating crew that incorrectly called an excessive-celebration penalty against him late in the Georgia-LSU game. The suspension came after the SEC found that the same crew incorrectly called a personal-foul penalty against Arkansas late in last week’s loss to Florida. Asked after practice Thursday if he finds any vindication in the league action, Green said: “No, not really. Just take it as it comes. . . . It didn’t give us the win.”
– After a 6 a.m. weight-lifting session and classes Friday, Georgia’s players will be off until reconvening at 6 p.m. Sunday. They’ll practice in full pads Sunday night to finish installing the Florida game plan.

Tech fans continue to sit there and post the dumbest thoughts on National Championship Game.
Miami of Florida beat you soundly 33-17.
Tech has to be within 5 spots and have beat Miami of Florida head-to-head, which Tech did not.
Miami of Florida is also ahead of Georgia Tech by 3 positions in the BCS Rankings.
Neither team plays a single good team, except Tech plays UGA whom they will never beat, in the last game.
There are no other even beginning to be reasonable opponents for either Georgia Tech nor Miami of Florida.
Nothing Georgia Tech can do to jump Miami of Florida, and if Georgia Tech did jump Miami of Florida and Miami of Florida is within 5 spots of Georgia Tech, Miami of Florida goes to the BCS Bowl Game representing this said sorry conference, the ACC.

I have found numerous flaws in your research and graded it below. You may want to print this out and take it back to your maintenance office on Monday (full of 1980’s memorabilia I am sure) and crank up your Harry Munson 1980’s highlight 8 track, and make some corrections. This is not some crip course at the university of georgia you are taking. THIS is real life in the real world little man.

According to ESPN, Mark Curles and his crew, which the SEC has 8 crews, had the week off this week anyway, so it’s not really a suspension. Not to worry though if their off this week that means they’ll probably be in Jacksonville next week. Or could be worse we could get Penn Wagers and his group.

1. Beat us this year and you will own us, but as of last year (45-42) we own you.
2. “Come back on a Georgia story and run your mouth when you at least become competitive”. No idea what this means but 45-42 should “suffice”. If not, our comeback after being down 16 at the half and throttling your azz 26-0 in the 3rd qtr to take control of the game (and you), should.
3. I have been to one of your home games this year, two last year and two the year before that. My girlfriend goes there or I wouldn’t be caught dead. YOU have a lot more empty seats than we do each Saturday. A lot more. Plus at least our 50,000 fans get their monies worth. AND we don’t trash the stadium or campus when we have bad years.

I live for the Georgia game. We throw out the records for that game but obviously you do not (lol). What the records don’t show is that we have different coaches, different players, different system and we simply want this game more than Georgia does. Same was true last year. In my opinion we will win the “pound the hound” game November 28th. And I hope it’s georgia people will buy those special 2000 seats and understand exactly why no Tech fan is dumb enough to sit there.

Herschel had 30,000 yards in the USFL? Really. He only played in the USFL for three years.
USFL: In his USFL career, Walker had 5,562 yards rushing in 1,143 carries, averaging 4.87 yards per carry, during his three seasons with the Generals.
In 12 NFL seasons, Walker gained 8,225 rushing yards, 4,859 receiving yards, and 5,084 kickoff-return yards. This gave him 18,168 total combined net yards, ranking him second among the NFL’s all-time leaders in total yardage at the time of his retirement.
Even all those impressive stats only add up to 23,730 yards in his entire pro career.

Wow! Thanks for posting Herschel’s NFL numbers. I can remember how Landry used him in Dallas as a pass catcher. A truly tremendous athlete.

I agree but also they will need to put pressure on Tebow. If the do get to him they had better wrap him up cause as he proved yesterday his size and strength will not allow for stupid shoulder tackles.
BTW congrats on the win and it looks as if the bugs will finally get to play for the ACC Championship. Watch out for Clemson though as they have improved since you guys played them last.
