Duly noted:
– Everyone knew Knowshon Moreno was a special running back who gained many yards on his own, but this Georgia season is re-proving the point. While Georgia’s offensive line clearly has not created the rooming room that was expected, Richard Samuel and Caleb King haven’t been able to generate much on their own, either. Saturday was a low point for the running game (just 45 yards on 24 attempts, just one first down rushing) -– a performance brightened only by the promising debut of freshman tailback Washaun Ealey. Mark Richt said after the game Saturday and again Sunday that Ealey will get more playing time, although he said the staff isn’t ready to “change up the depth chart this second.” Richt didn’t, however, rule out the possibility of that happening in the days ahead.
– And watching Charles Scott break loose from several would-be tacklers on LSU’s game-winning touchdown Saturday also reminded you of what Georgia hasn’t been getting from its tailbacks post-Moreno.
– What will be missing when Georgia and Tennessee play Saturday in Knoxville? A ranked team. According to UGA, it’ll be the first time in 25 meetings since 1937 that the Dogs and Vols have played with neither team ranked in the Associated Press or coaches’ Top 25 polls. Saturday’s 20-13 loss to No. 4 LSU dropped Georgia out of the polls for the first time since Dec. 3, 2006. “I’m just glad it’s not the final poll,” Richt said.
– Georgia and LSU combined for one touchdown in the game’s first 57 minutes — and three touchdowns in the final three minutes.
– Amid Georgia’s much-dissected shortcomings Saturday — running game, kickoff coverage, not stopping Scott when it mattered most, dismal first-half offense, Brandon Boykin returning an interception from the end zone, etc. –- two other plays shouldn’t be overlooked: Joe Cox overthrowing a wide-open A.J. Green on a first-quarter deep ball and Blair Walsh missing his first field goal in nine attempts, a mere 32-yarder, in the third quarter. Those two plays might have meant 10 points in a game decided by 7.
– Richt on Trindon Holliday’s 40-yard kickoff return that set up LSU’s winning touchdown: “We got punctured right in the heart of our kickoff-coverage team. Their wedge did a very nice job. And everybody knows Holliday is a special cat.” Richt said another factor was that Georgia was kicking into the wind.
– Georgia was penalty-free in the first half. Alas, the Dogs had seven penalties for 59 yards in the second half, including the very costly two for 20 yards in the final 69 seconds.
– While still mystified by the excessive-celebration penalty on Green — and, for that matter, by the same penalty on LSU after its subsequent score –- Richt concurred with the call against Orson Charles for his celebration after his 22-yard reception in the third quarter.
– As for the penalty on Green’s celebration, Richt said Georgia will consult with the SEC about the call and the rule this week. “Based on what I saw, I just need to be educated as to what would constitute a flag for excessive celebration,” he said on a teleconference Sunday, “and I want to be able to educate our players in the right way so that won’t happen to us again in the future. . . . I want to play within the rules, but I also want [the team] to have some spirit and have some ability to enjoy some success.”
– Cox on his own celebration of Green’s touchdown with 1:09 to play: “I know I was excited, just running around like an idiot.”
– There were some Sanford Stadium boos in the first half Saturday, most notably on a third-and-8 play on which Georgia ran the ball (Samuel got 2 yards). Cox heard the boos. “People expect you to throw the ball [in that situation],” he said. “They don’t know there’s nobody up in the box for run support, and if you block it right, there’s no one to tackle the back and you get 30 yards. . . . If it works, people think you’re geniuses.”
– Georgia’s defense got more sacks Saturday (6, including 3 in a row to start the second half) than in the season’s first four games combined (5). “The defense was having fun out there,” said DE Justin Houston, who had two sacks against LSU and has been a difference-maker since returning from suspension. “It’s so much easier to play defense if you are having fun out there.”
– Dating to last season, Georgia is 0-4 against top-10 teams, losing to Alabama and Florida last year and to Oklahoma State and LSU this season.
– Of Georgia’s 19 losses since 2003, 12 have been by seven points or less.
– And does anybody have a clue what type of game Georgia will play against Tennessee? “It has been a very unusual year in regard to knowing what you’re going to get on a week-to-week basis,” Richt said Saturday night. “We have not really been able to predict how the ballgame is going to go.”

Enjoy succcess Coach Richt ?
UNRANKED in the AP Poll.
UNRANKED in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll.
UNRANKED in the Harris Poll.
UNRANKED in the BCS Poll.
Why don’t you try getting a “Coaching Staff” instead of criticizing the Officials when you can’t teach our kids how to kick-off, play defense, run the football, return punts, defend the pass, and NOT get penalized.
The time for celebration is NOT during the games.
It is in the lockerroom AFTER the game in privacy, not in front of the crowd and TV and opposition DURING THE DAMN GAME.
We are NOW Number 105 in Penalty Yards per game in the nation of 120 teams.
How is your COLLEGE ROOMMATE doing Coach Richt on your “Coaching Staff” son ?
You know, you watch Auburn play a game, and it appears as if they PRACTICE and COACH their kids on plays that they then go out and EXECUTE on the field of play.
Instead, you come in here WHINING that your kids should be allowed to whoop it up when they finally get 1 play right out of 150 plays in the game.
You want to know what is fun Coach Richt ?
NOT being as you are son 17-19 against Final AP Poll Top 25 teams in your 8 and a half years here.

To say they are one of the most poorly coached teams in the Nation is an understatement. Tragic what has happened to this once great tradition. Martinez, Fabris, and Bobo MUST GO NOW! And if CMR won’t do it, then sadly, this fine man (but proving to be a mediocre coach) must go as well.

I didn’t realize Richt is only 17-19 against teams that finish in the Top 25 (that’s the only poll that matters any way). That says alot. Heck we won 10 games last year but only beat one team in the FINAL Top 25 poll, and that was #25 Michigan State in the bowl (NO, LSU and Arizona State did not finish in the Top 25 last year).

Saint Simons, seriously man do you have a life at all? Do you just sit by your computer every Monday morning so you can blog the score if GA loses? Brilliant my friend. The mere fact that you are so intrigued and into GA’s games every week is clear evidence that you are jealous of the football program that UGA has. By football program I mean, facilities, tradition, huge fan base etc…. I don’t even keep up with Tech because the care factor is zero when it comes to Tech football for me. I have no idea who Tech even played this past weekend, and couldn’t care less. I doubt it was a top 5 team because Tech never plays those types of teams. They play teams like Maryland, The Citadel, etc…. Your hatred for UGA burns deep…..I can tell. It’s clearly linked to the beatings that GA has given Tech over the years. I believe that Richt’s record against the Dorks is 7-1? Correct me if I am wrong. You did beat us last year, and my sincere congrats on that impressive 3 pt victory. You see the difference in Tech and UGA is quite simple. We expect to beat you guys every year (regardless of how we have fared in SEC play), and you guys pop open the champagne when you beat GA by 3 pts. If GA beats Tech by any less than two TD’s, GA fans are furious. I compare it to a bully that rules the neighborhood. Yes, once in a very blue moon the kid being bullyed will fight back and maybe win, but 99.9% of the time the bully will win.

1. Would Tim Tebow get that penalty in that situation?
2. Why hasn’t Tebow ever gotten an excessive celebration penalty for all the arm waving and gator chomping he does, if Charles’ penalty was justified?
3. Would Nick Saban or Urban Meyer have the guts to call out the officials and support their kids?
We have a lot of internal problems, all well documented here, but the officiating has taken a decidedly anti-Georgia flavor since the end-zone dance in 2007. I’m with Tony Barnhart. This one was inconceivable..

When you get sick take your medicine one teaspoon at a time not the whole bottle at once.
The “celebration” rule was put in to stop the taunting, signing an autograph after a TD, cellphone call, and some pretty funny dancing and to encourage better sportsmanship and I agree with this. BUT the celebration calls that happened in the game Saturday are completely irresponsible by the officials not only the one who threw the flag but the whole crew for not conferring and waving each of the last 2 calls off.
I had 2 high school kids with me that were jumping and yelling and cheering and celebrating when AJ scored along with everyone else including every UGA player on the sideline which is what we all should be doing after a play like that.
Celebrating and being “pumped up” by these players is only natural after spending countless hours practicing, working out, running, and busting their butts to be ready to play the game.
The interpretation of this rule is killing the game. These kids should be encouraged to celebrate in a sportsmanlike manner not walk back to the sideline looking like a depressed Zombie!
Come on NCAA remove your arrogance and and correct this problem. What’s next – flag the fans for cheering too much or flag us for doing a dance in the aisle??? My dance Saturday would have been a 30 yarder!
NCAA – If you don’t go back to one teaspoon at a time, then go ahead a drink the kool-aid so we can start over!

UGA loses, and their online fans get sensitive. And that apparently translates to memory loss. Like, everyone talks about 7-1 in the recent past, but no one ever admits it is actually 7-4 in the past 11 years.

Rivals ranks UGA’s classes as such for the last 6 years:

2007 – 9th
2006 – 4th
2005 – 10th
2004 – 6th
With this kind of talent where are the results? Yes, a couple of SEC titles are nice but today it’s “what have you done for me lately?” And he hasn’t done much lately. Your offense starts and ends with your line. I thought that this year Seareles had our team ready to dominate? There is no dominating spirit in our present line. Used to quote about the number of “pancake” blocks an individual lineman has during a game. Haven’t heard of any this year! I would move Boling to left tackle. He did a great job there last year. I don’t think that Glenn or Vance are the answer there at that position. Our center, Ben Jones, has been the only player I recall being mentioned as blocking well. Notice the lack of push by the line on short yardage plays? We may have another coordinator to add to the THREE that may not be coaching up to standards. Really, I am not happy with any area of our team on either side of the ball. One thing is for sure, if the offensive line does not block better we easily could lose another four games when added to our other deficit areas. Come on Lineman, I appreciate the job that you are required to do. We need excellence in attitude and drive and tenacity from you. Then our offensive game will start to churn! Go DAWGS!!!!!

Unbelievable all of the talk about firing coaches…Some of these top recruits haven’t played up to their billing, plus they’re still young. Not the coaches fault. CMR is one of the winningest and best coaches in the SEC. Talent level at UGA is down after losing the big three from last year and some just simply havent performed to their billing. How is the coaching any different from 2007 when UGA finshed #2 in the country?! the players played to their potential that year, had some good senior leaders- Adams (Senior), Velasco (Senior), Sturdivant was healthy the whole year, Knowshon, Massaquoi, Stafford, S. Bailey (Senior), T. Brown (senior), Kelin Johnson (Senior), Marcus Howard (Senior)……C’mon folks, get behind these young Dawgs and coaches.

Before we start praising the Defense:
Offensively, LSU’s high mark this season was its 368 yards against Georgia. But piling up yards against the Bulldogs isn’t that big a deal this season. Before that output against Georgia, LSU’s season-high in offense was 330 yards against Louisiana-Lafayette. That’s right Louisiana-Lafayette…the Fightin’ I Have No Idea What Their Mascot Is.

Why do you Georgia fans let St. Simons get to you? Ignore him. Don’t give him the pleasure that he’s gotten under your skin.
Georgia has a lot of talent, more than any of its opponents so far this year. It should be undefeated, but until it inculcates an attitude in its football team that excellence is expected, discipline is demanded, and mistakes will put you on the bench it will continue to muddle along. That is coaching, plain and simple.
Georgia recruits with the best. It just does not coach its recruits to their potential. Tech, on the other hand, has been able to get a lot more out of its personnel. Florida has the luxury of having both. That is why Florida will win its 2nd straight and 3rd out of 4 BCS NCs this year.

Spot the other team 10 points to start the game and take it off the scoreboard at the end and we would win Every game by at least!!! IF WE PLAYED LIKE THAT I bet this team since Richt has been here would be Champions every year!!! This team scores everytime it has to. But they never put anyone away early. is an average team, UGA also AVG at best. To all of those who think the excessive celebration calls were meaningless and equal I have some questions. Did Georgia have 1:09 on the clock and down by one? Answer: well less than a minute and down by 7. If you think those are equal scenarios you are either an LSU or GT fan The missed Field goal by Walsh… any ideas why that was much longer than it needed to be? Seems to me it was after the celebration penalty on Charles.
The dawgs left points on the field that better teams will not leave on the field (AJ wide open on a couple of occasions and the missed field goal). I seriously doubt LSU will benefit in any one game as greatly as they did in this game from favorable officiating. When LSU meets a better team with even handed officiating the outcome will be much different.
Go Dawgs
The officiating seem to be very forgiving as evidence by the aggressive play that was allowed by the LSU secondary on AJ in the endzone and White in the endzone and the offensive lineman taht tacled Rennie on Scott’s long run. Which is OK as long as they stay out of the game the entire way rather than insert their presence when it mattered most in what appeared to be a hand selected moment.
History tells us that this crew has had difficulty in the past in UGA games that resulted in a suspension and their poor judgment continues to impact the scenarios in which UGA games are decided

Good point. If the Dawgs want championships, they need to celebrate ONLY in the locker room. Look at Florida. They win championships, and Tim Tebow never celebrates on the field. He just stays calm until he’s in the locker room. Oh, wait a second, that’s COMPLETELY WRONG.

We can’t blame the refs they don’t make us play every team every week play until the last minute!! Last week we should have blown out Arizona state. We need to learn to play and coach for 60 minutes. The refs miss calls every week. They make calls they shouldn’t every week. One penalty should never change the outcome of a game with this team!! We have 2 much talent on offense to only put up 20 points. We should be able to score 40 points every week!! What happened to trying to block a punt instead of trying to return a punt every time??? Why can’t we put the best players on the field on special teams?? If we do this we put some teams away early and it wouldn’t come down to the last minute of a game. I don’t want to hear excuses about injuries!!! They are part of the game. You can get hurt on offense and defense as well!! How may players has Florida got hurt since meyer has been there on special teams???? Doesn’t matter if we get a star player hurt on punt blocks if we block the punt then score does it???? Just got to become more aggressive!!!

I don’t think Richt is the problem. He is actually the solution. He needs to get more involved with his assistants this year. Obviously there are issues, and more than a couple may be gone after the season. In all honesty, UGA will probably finish 7-5 or 8-4. Two losses that are certain are Florida and Auburn. I just hope Richt beats Tennessee, because if not, he will be 2-4 his last six. That and another loss to Florida will get a man fired at Georgia (ask Jim Donnan).

Have you forgotten the recent past, post Coach Dooley? Obviously so.
Even Bear Bryant had rebuilding years (I remember a couple of 6-5 seasons in there). There IS still hope for an outstanding season. Say what you want but don’t speak about “Coach” with such uncivil discourse behind the anonymity of this forum. There are problems with this team, sure. However, when you look at our roster and realize how much youth the staff is working with, not only does the future look bright (2010) but the immediate future should come into focus as well. As a retired coach I understand the process of dealing with young ath. It is never a smooth ride. Two quick points John Wooden, perhaps the greatest coach of all time, took 10 yrs. before he won his 1st nat.ch. at UCLA. 0-4 against top teams in fifteen games. Unranked. Disorganized. In disarray. What is going on at Georgia? It’s the coaching folks and CMR won’t do a thing about it this year and he won’t do a thing about it during the offseason. Georgia football has fallen and no one in position to do anything about it really cares. Look at the stats and tell me that parts of the program are not in disarray and that the coaches we have now are doing even a poor job. Georgia is terrible right now and there’s no sign of change. Better be careful. All this negative talk about your coach may lead to all those prize recruits leaving and going some place else. Wait a minute. What am I saying, you still have prize recruits playing, but it is not making a difference. Perhaps the recruiting ranking system is uselsess.

WAIT – you mean there was a BAD call in a football game? What? It was against UGA? There has never been a college team in the country that has ever had that happen before – I’m so sure. Put on your big girl panites and deal with it. This is Tuesday and by Saturday, you guys have to play the Vols – who are not that good. If you keep concentrating on the bad calling, the Vols will up and bite you. Then what are you going to say? Then what ref call will be the cause of it? The reason most people despise the UGA fan base is because you act like the parent whose bratty child just got caught doing something STUPID again and the response of the parents is “not my little Johnny!” Three days have been spent on this issue when in fact you all know, the break away run LSU had to beat you with would have made it no matter where you kicked off at. It was a breakaway run because somebody on the defense missed their play. You never would have been in that position in the first place had you gotten at least TWO first downs in the first half of the game anyway. Come on UGA. Grow some, deal with your real problems and stop blaming everybody else. You really do make this state look like a bunch of crybaby morons!

Bad calls are a part of the game, even in this age of instant replay. UGA stills loses the game because they lost focus. They have played the last 3 games by the seat of their pants won. You can do that against South Carolina, Arkansas, and Arizona State. But a team like LSU, with their talent, will make you pay for a lapse in concentration. With that being said, the celebration penalty was awful. I understand the rule being in place for showboating, but a player celebrating the potential game winning TD? I think officials can be lenient there. Also, LSU is clearly NOT the 4# team in the country and if they don’t play better themselves, they’ll get exposed by Alabama and Florida.

Dawgs will be fine. This group of pups are young and just getting started. They got a raw deal on Saturday with the excessive celebration call, but I’m sure they’ve put that way behind them. Yes, the penalty was huge in that it changed the options available on the kickoff, but the dawgs know that in the end, they’ll have the opportunity for a rematch in the Championship game if LSU can get out of the West. Truth of the matter is, these Dawgs have got a better than not chance of winning every remaining game on their schedule. Yes including Florida. We’re off the week before the Florida game while the Gators are not and the team with the off week is a perfect 6 – 0 since 2001. The real season (SEC race to Atlanta) starts Saturday in Knoxville. Hope everyone is up for the game.
Finally, for all the knucklehead, johnny come lately, morons out there who want to fire everyone on the team (coaches and players), take a chill pill and get back to your own work, and if you can’t be supportive of the team, find another one. The TEAM does not want or need you! GO AWAY!!!!

Has anyone ever considered that UGA did not have a CHOICE of where they were going to kickoff? The bogus call dictated where the ball would be placed for the kickoff. That’s the problem. The refs INFLUENCED the next play.
If there was no penalty, UGA could have kicked off from the 30.(Their choice not the refs) They could have kicked the ball out of bounds(which they do very well) and Holliday would not have touched the ball. Then LSU would have to start from the 40 and would have to go 30 yards in 60 seconds to reach the UGA 30 for a 47 yard field goal to win. If they had done that to win the game, then they deserved the win.
My point is, the refs decided where the biggest play of the game would start. To say that Scott would have run all the way back to Red Stick is ludicrous. The play calling from LSU 40 is different than the play calling from the UGA 38, when you only need 8 yards to get into fg range.
One more thing, did anyone notice Ciron Black’s TACKLE on Bryan Evans on Scott’s run?

I agree that something needs to be done about the play calling on Offense and Defense, but I don’t think we have to fire Coach Richt to get that done. It is pathetic to read some people’s opinions on here. Some of you have turned on OUR head coach. Notice I didn’t say he was YOUR head coach. If you want to jump off the wagon then go ahead. However, we’ve seen bad times before and we hunkered down and got through them. Letting Richt go is not the answer right now. Let all the tech fans run their mouths and look at their shiny rings while they can. I hope they enjoy their moment because those kinds of things end pretty quickly. All you tech fans can sit here behind computers and talk about what is wrong with someone else’s program all you want, but all of you know that you’ve been owned in recent years and that trend may start again in a few short weeks. So enjoy this time to rant and rave while the rest of us support OUR team. GYSB.

HOUSTON!! UGA, from the bragging of it’s fans was going to beat the country, run the table and head to the BCS championship. I agree with Mike orig. formula, quit calling for Richt’s head right now. While I would like to hear more urgency from him about the need to make some big changes, he will not likely fire any assistants mid-season. I’m hoping CWM and Fabris will be gone before next year. As for Bobo, I still think he can work out… the dynamic between Bobo, CMR and play calling is still evolving and may need some tweaking. The inconsistent play on offense makes play calling that much mre difficult. Lack of ability to run the ball consistently and erratic play from Cox makes it tough… there are no gimme situations where we know what will work for certain down/distance… and I think that’s about the players. Our offensive woes are about lack of execution not scheme.
For those of you who call for Will Muschamp as next DC… not happening… why would he leave next in line as Tx HC to be DC at UGA with uncertain future?

UGA’s football fate has been a long time coming and now has reached the stage of mediocrity. The better teams in the SEC got better by making changes to their coaching staffs and continue to make changes to improve. This idea CMR has about retaining the same under achieving coaches because it shows stability to recruits has proven to be false. While the dawgs do continue to attract their share of “top recruits” the program has not improved in terms of beating top teams in their league and continue playing the same ball games w/o showing any improvement and are easily predictable by opposing coaches that see no change in the way the dawgs play O and D.
If CMR does not make changes to his coaching staff at the end of this season he has no vision nor desire to improve his teams performance no matter how many 4 and 5 star recruits he lands. The Sabans and the like will tell you stability is good but when something is broke you have to fix it. He and other coaches like him will tell you loyalty only goes so far. You don’t pay big bucks for loyalty you have to prove your worth and the current batch of GA’s coord’s and asst’s have not as this team and others before it continue to degress in spite of the token coaching changes made during the off season.
Unless changes to the staff are made GA’s woes will continue into next season regardless of who they have as players. The face of college football is ever changing w/coaches coming and going, except at UGA. It’s time UGA has a facelift.

azdawg, SDD, YD, SP and Not a fan Willie – You guys should probably go find another team to cheer for. You sound miserable. You may want to talk with Stinger and Buzze B about joining up with their up and coming D2 program.
Stinger,Buzze B – your infatuation with UGA is amazing, but understandable given the uninspired interest in your program and conference. Welcome to the SEC and Big time football. I know you guys must be excited about the stretch run coming up for your aquad….VA, Vandy, Weak Forest, Duke, off week, before finishing against the Big Dawg. Throw in a Jax. State, Clemzon, NC, Missy State and FSwho and you’ve got the makings of one dreadful schedule. Like I said, I can understand your interest in UGA football given what looks to be one of the least interesting schedules I can ever recall. However, it should guarantee you guys 10 wins a year, but don’t look for any respect for your program until you start playing a real schedule.

Mark: Sir, aside from the vitriol, your comments are well taken. 1st; Aaron Murray, most likely. It is not unusual for a good team to enter a given season wi. an inexperienced QB. USC and Ala. are two examples. Realize this…Joe Cox is a Gamer and I love him as our QB “this” yr. 2nd; our O-line has had an uneven yr. so far. Remember, I said this yr. will continue to come into focus. Three pts., If I may, 1. Coach Searles is gen. considered one of, if not the best O-LINE coach in the country. Also, he is the most like BVG in personality for those of us who understand we need a dose of piss and vinegar. 2. Pass protection…pretty darn good. 3. Running attack will be much improved wi. a back who hits the hole, runs by instinct and vision as I suspect Wash. Ealey might. I wish the great “Lewis” was still with us to calm everyone down and put it all in perspective. GO DAWGS

I vote Georgia seceeds from the S. E. C. and moves to the Big Ten.
Heck, they haven’t lost to a Big Ten team since I can remember.
They would become overnight the replacement for the perennial
powerhouse, OSU, get to play in the Rose Bowl every year and
contend for a BCS series bowl every year. Get to play a PAC 10
perennial powerhouse every year instead of the weak SEC Tigers, Gators,
Vols, War Eagles, Tide’s and all the other weak SEC teams we now play.
Or, we could join the ACC, Richt would be right at home coaching against
this league and probably win more games.

HBTD. You apparently did not do too well in reading comprehension class. You’re an example of the mind set that is satisfied and happy w/UGA’s performance so far this season, and past several seasons of under achievement. What is “miserable” is the direction the team is headed and has been for the past several years. I’m a UGA grad and love the dawgs. Do I live and die red and black, absolutely NOT. However, it does bother me when not only fans but college football analysts and news columnists have for years said some of GA’s coaches don’t have a clue how to change what so blatently does not work and puts the team at risk and in a position to lose games. I still want CMR to be GA’s head coach. He just needs to have better coord’s and asst’s to put his teams in a position to win the BIG games rather than having to wait until the last play to determine the outcome of what appears to be every game they play is always in question.
If you’re happy w/the status quo then thats okay. Just don’t tell anyone else they have to feel the same way = losers.

Oh my, cry me a river. You get a bad call from the ref at the end of the game, but truthfully Georgia should have been blow out in the first half. You are lucky it wasn’t 28 or 31 to zip. So let’s see, the ref takes his call back, but Georgia still allows the a LSU
kickoff return of 50 yards to the LSU 47 instead of the of the GA 38. 2 plays later Scott would have scored from 50+ yards. They still left GA more time than they used to score, so I’m sorry, you have no real grip.
Actually ya’ll have some very good players who aren’t producing—looks like you have a real coaching problem, top to bottom. If GA doesn’t change their ways, and plays a first half like the LSU game, when you go to Jacksonville, you will think last year was a close game.

Our budget for asst’s is nothing compared to Fl , AL, TN etc. For you dawg fans I understand your frustration but I think we’re being over critical. RE: the Penalty Call
Coming from a Georgia Tech Fan / Alum, while I agree it was a horrible call against UGA, you can’t blame losing the game because of it. Missed tackling is to blame for the loss. Whether or not the LSU running back had 100 yards to run, the reality is no one was around him to make a tackle after he broke through the line. That being said it was a bad call, but not the game.
and St Simons.. Stop with the scores. You are not giving Georgia Tech a good name. Have some class.

I’m glad it is bow hunting season. I still follow the dawgs on my headphone radio. I actually talk back to it, so the deer have no reason to fear me. What I fear though, is just watching the good ship ‘UGA football program’ get stuck in neutral. It seems that week after week is a ‘pivotal’ game. The Tennessee game is no exception. Lose it, and what cheering is left will be for the second tier games left on the schedule. I want the dawgs to do well, but the administration seems to put priorities in the wrong place,ie making Stegman pretty, making Sanford nicer. I had a call last nite from a nice young lady representing UGA asking for $$$ for the new Tate Center extension. I was polite, but firm, and told her until a lot of the current administration finds opportunities elsewhere, my contributions will be de minimus. She said that was a complaint she hears very frequently.

Here’s a question for any rules interpretation expert.
I read a column online in today’s Athens Banner Herald written by Marc Weisser wherein he referenced an excessive celebration penalty called last year on Washington when their QB tossed the ball in the air with 2 seconds remaining in the game after scoring a TD to pull the Huskies within 1 of tying BYU. A flag was thrown for excessive celebration and a 15 yard penalty was imposed on the extra point. BYU ended up blocking the extra point and won the game.
Question – Why was the 15 yard penalty for excessive celebration imposed on the kickoff this past Saturday instead of on the PAT?? Was there a rule change or is their a specific fact pattern that dictates one imposition over the other??

HBTD-I believe it is to the teams discretion of wen to take it. DON”T QUOTE ME ON THAT.
Obviously BYU would not take it on the kickoff because there was only 2 seconds left to pay….ie not enough time to score. THey took the shot of backing up WAshington for 1. THey wouldn’t go for 2 and try and win it. 2. they would give them selves a shot at blocking a 32 yard extra point…which is what happened.
If I’m not mistaken……LSU toook the kick off because there was still 1:09 left on the clock…with 2 timeouts and onlt needing a FG to win.
Like I said don’t quote me I’m not a rule book but I think thats it.

Out of curiosity, if you issue a statement wanting to fire Mark Richt…
1) Who would you hire?
2) What year did you graduate from UGA?
I am wondering about the demographics of people who don’t support him, along with their logic as to who they think would do better.

DEllis – Thanks. That makes sense and perhaps explains the unusually long delay between the TD and the 2 point try. Maybe the officials were running back and forth to the coaches alerting them as to what had happened and providing them with their options.
I’d sure hate to think that the officials compounded the problem by not assessing the penalty correctly.

MtnDawg-I to support Mark Richt 100%, and have never jumpede or uttered a word of fire Richt…..and never will…..I hope
But to answer your question if the day ever came and this coach was available.
-Brian Kelley the coach from Cincy. His offense is great and he has won at every level he has coached at. Cincy is about to make a run at their 2nd straight BCS game and are in the top 10 and his “system” has a Heisman candidate for QB
Cincy has no D. But at UGA he could recruit an entire demographic of defensive players that udually don’t have Cincy in their final 3. Nothing agaisnt any Bearcat fan out there but I beleive the level of talent he could recruit on defense would far surpass the level he recruits at Cincy.
Put that talent level of defense (that UGA recruits now) with his offensive scheme that chunks it all across the field and that would be my choice
But make no mistake about it Mark Richt is my coach.

The UT game is a make-or-break game for this program. Lose and Coach Richt (and staff) immediately go on the hot seat. A 2-4 record his last six games versus BOTH UT and UF is unacceptable. Florida is understood, but not both. Simply put, better not blow this one.

I’m not ready to fire CMR … he’s a great man and we couldn’t do any better. I am disgusted at his inability to make changes. He has a weakness in his coaching … loyalty and friendship. This has and will eventually have a great affect on his position as head coach. I’ll bet you the farm that he won’t make a single coaching change after the season? Anyone want to take that bet?

I dont think they get to choose on that penalty. Obviously anyone would rather just kick what equates to a short FG for the extra point rather than kick off from their our own 15. We certainly wouldnt have elected to kick off from the 7 yr line (double foul) at FL07 game, if we had the option.
I think its always been the case that TD penalties are enforced on the KO rather than the extra point, because there is not real penalty to the team otherwise. The only time you see an extra point backed up is if the penalty occured during the attempt itself.
It might also have to do with the fact that extra points are attempted while the clock is not running. As in penalties would be inforced on the next “live” play.

On another note, somebody questioned if we had KO’d normally and done so out of bounds, and then had the same (3man on the side) procedure call, where would we have been. I wonder if it is possible that you would have 2 procedure calls enforced? Or is OOB basically negating anything else as basically the play was dead. Other team might have had the option to take the 40 OR force a rekick on that.

Richt deciding his staff based on freindship might be the most childish theory I have ever heard in sport chat. The idea that his freindship to a specific coach would negate his freindship to all the other coaching doesnt even make sence. Or that a coaching buddy is more inportant to him than is wife, his kids, his job, his players, the fans, the university, God. Is there any way possible that he just does not evaluate his coaches the same way that you do, therefore it would be illogical for him to take the same actions as you ‘think” he should? That maybe his agenda is different than yours. Or his big plan. Or his timing. Is that at all possible? Say he doesnt know what he is doing, or at least that you can’t understand it, but good heavens loss the playground mentality………its all just his BFF causing all the issues………Do you really not see how stupid that sounds?
BTW, his best buddy is actually Brad Johnson, bro in law, who he lobbied to move to Athens along with all his other family, which makes it all the less likely that he would jerpordize himself living in Athens over a lesser friend on his staff.

Mark Richt answers to a higher authority than any of you so called supporters of Georgia football understand. Georgia has not won a national championship while Coach Richt has been head coach. So what. I can assure that his devotion to Christ and his works with the young men that he has come in contact with are much more impressive to our heavenly Father than any of his records as a football coach. You can get on here and degrade the man and the men that work for him, but not one of you has the ability to become a head coach in college and make the decisions that he and his staff make. If you could, you would be doing just that. I wish that they ran a blog for the performance of all of you that are the factory workers, doctors, lawyers, maintenance, janitors, teachers, landscapers, construction workers, garbage collectors, accountants, students, teachers, restaurant workers, landlords, and any other occupations that I have left out. Then you could see how insignificant venters and bloggers really are to what you do for a living. Most of you should be thankful for what you have. When Coach Richt leaves who is going to come to Georgia to turn around a program that has a 78-80% winning percentage in the last Decade. Is Bob Stoops or Urban Meyer or Saban going to leave their programs to come to Georgia? We have the best person in Athens right now. Marck Richt is leading young men to Christ and he’s coaching football. I would just as soon stand pat and enjoy life rather than waste time on something(criticizing a coach and his staff) that I know very little about.

D.Ellis, I didn’t see your responce, which was that the other team gets to choose. Could be. Thats a good point. I wonder though if they have anything to do with it, since they really weren’t harmed or restricted in any way by the infraction. It’s a foul against the “the game” more than anything else, and I am thinking the penalty is predetermined.

“Paul Johnson wears a Snuggie” was obviously stung by St. Simons as evidenced by his long response in which he says he doesn’t care about Tech; somewhat of an oxymoron, wouldn’t you say? He admits UGA has a bully mentality & wants to “bully” opponents, esp. Tech when they win. This reflects a lack of class. Winston Churchill said, “In Defeat, Defiance; In Victory, Magnanimity.” He didn’t say “In Victory, Taunt & Bully.” Regarding his boast of 7-1 under Richt, I would remind him that it was 7-4 over 11 years [Tech won in 1998, 1999, 2000], Bobby Dodd still holds the record streak of 8 in a row over the Bulldogs, and that Tech has more National Championships than Georgia even though Tech players must be able to read & write before they are allowed to play.
About Ealey
October 7th, 2009
12:57 pm
Why can every other team in college football play freshmen but GA cannot – put Ealey in and Cox can tell him the blocking assignment for the play if it is a pass – I mean our offense does not look that complicating – it appears every other team’s defense can learn it an dknow what we are doing and they are not even on our team? Go figure – and if we do not start getting playing time for our next years quarterback then we will be in the same boat again.
Get over it

Too many of you are quick to judge – so what if GA has not won a National Championship since 1980 – they have been in position to win or at least play on the big stage – that is great coaching – Not too many teams have played in or even won a National Championship – so should all those teams fire their staff and bash their players – all programs go through change and have good and bad seasons – look at MI and OK and USC and so on –
It is hard when you lose top players year after year to the NFL and have to replace those guys – NO one guy does not make a team but one guy can help a team a lot –
I may be wrong but wait til next year for FL – let’s see how good they are without their quarterback – lets see how good TX and OK are next year – Look at OK now without their starting qb –
all teams go through it guys and GA has not disappointed for the past 8 years – no NC I know but you cannot expect a NC year in and year out that is foolish in itself –
GA can win out and still play in the SEC championship – but only if the Team believes it and plays like it can with all cylinders spinning at the same time – you can laugh and say they cannot beat FL – but any team can loose on any given day – just look at last year when FL was beat by MS – look at the year when CA beat USC and knocked them out of the NC game –
Go dawgs!

To the comment cox said about running on third down and being booed for it. Well mr cox people are booing cause the bulldawg nation knows our offensive line cant run block worth a sh*t. The smarter play call due to our lack of sucess of run blocking would have been to throw in that situation. I mean when our offinsive line is adequate at pass blocking so why not throw huh? Plus we would not boo in the first place if we saw the offensive line play to their ability they are capable of. Im sick of hearing about cox’s comments about the georgia fans. He should be the last one to be commenting on the fans actions when he’s one of the causes in the past two games for us not getting any production on offence. I mean for someone that coaches say is one the most accurate passers in practise, you think he would throw on target in games instead from what i see he’s constantly throwning high and behind recievers. If it wasnt for our recievers ( mainly A.J ) making circus catches we would probably had loss the past two games. Now i love georgia football and have respect for the team but quarterbacks in the past from i can remember didnt talk sh*t about their own fan base. Does anybody eles feel the same way about this as i do?

Freshmen playing is a good thing when things go well but sometimes their lack of experience shows at the worst time. Boykin coming out of the endzone after the INT was a mistake, but thank God the young man intercepted the pass. How do you get on to a player for that?
CMR is loyal to his staff and that’s fine he should be. Why won’t he appoint a dedicated special teams coach? Fabris? He’s not getting it done.
The directional kickoff works out on paper not much different than a touchback, but the lack of coverage is what hurts. Putting a 5star QB in to faircatch punts is something i don’t understand. Mikey Henderson was a senior before he started returning punts and look how he worked out. I just hope Branden Smith don’t have to wait that long.

I think CMR is losing his pashion for coaching due to his pashion for God. That is a good thing for him, but bad for UGA. UGA has alot of things that are out of balance. The talent is there. The focus is not.

I want to single out one facet of our ineptness: the special teams. Ours haven’t been very special to say the least. How is it that everybody runs the ball back to the 50 or so? Oh, there are exceptions but you get the jist. In addition, we concede runbacks by fair catching punts. Who approved that? Answers please.

It will most likely be a close game. Tennessee has looked as stagnant as UGA on the offensive side of the ball. So maybe the field goal kickers will determine this game. Regardless if UGA rushes for 45 yrds again it won’t be pretty. Tennessee will try to make Joe Cox beat them with his arm. With his lack of arm strength and mobility Richt would have to be crazy not to put in Logan G. At least work in some wildcat plays or just something creative. If I was Richt I would take back over the play calling duties. Bobo has shown poor decision making skills. If UGA losses this game it could be a disaster considering they still have to play Auburn, Florida, and GT. That might lead to a possible 6 loss season. At that time you will hear the UGA faithful call for a town square lynching. They will need a fall guy and I question if Richt has the marbles to fire Martinez and Bobo. He must hire capable assistants. His job is to over see with all this talent they are not a 6 loss team. Considering UGA has been in the top 10 nationally recruiting for the past 5 yrs. If Richt doesn’t make the right decision by the end of the season I’m sure the fan base will make it for him. I heard the Richt Radio Show this week. The callers kept asking the lollypop questions. How about the lack of offense and the weak play calling displayed by UGA. Look at teams like Boise State they do well because they are well coached. It isn’t because they have great recruiting classes. The thug mentality lives in the UGA program. Richt has the same policy as he did at FSU, let them play. When you hold the boys accountable for their actions you are doing him and the community a service. All that gets produced from environments with no control are criminals and deadbeats. Neither is what I want my son to idolize. Heck you can’t even bring kids to the game anymore. People are urinating everywhere. Then they throw their trash on the ground like a bunch of hoodlums. The examples the fans and the coaches set with these oversights is nothing I want to bring my son into. I hope Michael Adams cleans up these low life fans and players. So real people who can be civilized in a public place can enjoy the game.
