On Sturdivant’s injury, among other things

The bad news kept coming for the Bulldogs on Sunday.

It’s been a rough few days, starting with Joe Cox getting sick and continuing with a messy loss to Oklahoma State and culminating with word that Trinton Sturdivant will miss another season with a torn ACL.

You really gotta feel bad for Trinton.  He worked so hard for so long in rehab to make it back from last year’s knee injury, only to be faced with doing it all over again after playing less than three quarters of one game.

Mark Richt predicted Sturdivant will be just as diligent in his rehab this time and be back playing in 2010.

Meanwhile, the 2009 Dogs are 0-1. It’s the first time Georgia has been 0-1 since 1996,  when Jim Donnan’s first season as UGA coach started with an 11-7 loss to Southern Miss in Athens.

And if you’re wondering when was the last time the Dogs were 0-2, well, the answer is the same: 1996.

The loss to Southern Miss was followed by a 23-14 loss on the road to  . . . South Carolina.

The Gamecocks again will be trying to drop the Dogs to 0-2 when they come to Athens on Saturday for Georgia’s home opener.  Obviously, Georgia’s offense — now minus Sturdivant up front — is going to have to make some serious progress in a week’s time to do much against South Carolina’s stellar defense. Much more to come on that, I’m sure.

Meanwhile, a few quick notes from Richt’s teleconference Sunday:

– At least one offensive player helped himself on Saturday. “I think Tavarres King earned himself some more playing time,” Richt said. “He really got after it as a blocker and made one catch across the middle where he had to really extend; that took some bravery. We have gained some confidence in Tavarres’ ability to play more downs and get more opportunities.”

– If anyone thought Caleb King’s pulled hamstring had cost him his chance for a prominent role in Georgia’s offense this season, the Bulldogs’ mere 95 yards rushing against Oklahoma State corrected that notion. There’s still plenty of opportunity. Asked if he expects King back this week, Richt said: “I would love it. He’s a guy that we need to get healthy and get in there [to] compete and play.”

– Richt on Cox: “I really don’t know how he’s feeling, to be quite honest. He wasn’t going to miss that game.”

If we have to depend on Joe Cox this year then we are in trouble. Dude just dont have it. He’s a nice guy, nice story but I dont see us going far with him under center. Arm strength is bad, Mobility is bad, and he is not a game changer. He needs to come off the bench and provide a spark when one of the other Quaterbacks are struggling. Logan Gray is the best chance right now.

Wait, but weren’t all the mutt fans saying that they didn’t need cox to be any good, that they were so loaded with talent that he merely needed to manage games? Wasn’t uog simply going to reload and win the national championship like UT after Peyton left? Didn’t they have the best O-Line in the country, as well as all these superstar freshmen that were all going to be the next AJ Green at their respective positions??

An ugly, pathetic effort by a group of overhyped knuckleheads against a very average OSU team. There are mutt fans who are trying to puff OSU up as a “top 5″ team now that they’ve dominated mighty uog. OSU will prove over the course of the season to be another 8-4/9-3 type squad that can’t beat the best teams in its league.

As for uog? 6-6, loss to TULSA in the independence bowl

We would have had to score 25 points to win … we couldn’t. I realize short fields/turnovers affected field position but D was predictable and never adjusted. Where was the blitz and stunts and all out take no prisoners play … Willie don’t have it and it will show up in the weeks to come. It’s not the O that’s going to get us … it’s the D.
We’ll see 35 points scored on us at least four times this season.

Gee Wiz 69…CWM’s Defense was pretty good….and got handed a short field three time (17 pts). CMR better evaluate three things, why we don’t have a playmaker in the backfield (QB & RB), Why our talent level and depth is questionable (Rodney Garner) and why we always get out hustled and physicaled (strength and conditioning)

M3dawg, Even though you may want to argue that your dogs opened against a ranked team, the reality is this. Neither Georgia nor OSU should have been ranked anywhere near what they were. You want to brag about just how great your dogs are to play a ranked team in week 1 but the reality is , until last season you were opening with the likes of Georgia Southern. Who will the rest of the SEC be playing the weekend you visit Tennessee Tech?
The reason these blogs are filled with haters is the months leading up to kick off all of you dog lovers are calling for Cox to be the 2nd coming and how a NC is just around the corner and how you just cant wait to put the hob nailed boot in Tennessee. You love discussing the trade school who bragged about beating you for the first time in 8 years yet you dogs will dance in an end zone and act like WORLD beaters when you beat Florida 2 times in 19 years. Its always OK for you boys who have never attended UGA on a weekday to sill your hate as long as its going your way. This year will be sweet revenge for us who are sick of the bragging that comes with NO reason as we watch you fellas cower in a corner and throw excuses around for your 4 or 5 losses this season. They will still kick Georgia around like a 4 eyed geek! If Florida wins because they play a week schedule then why doesnt Georgia beat them more than once a decade?
Reality is UGA fans are always looking for an excuse. They make fun of Spurrier, Fulmer, Meyer and so on and it’s because each one of them have a National Championship and SEC Championships. CMR has an SEC trophy but that is where it stops. They all have something CMR doesnt and with this loss they see another season without hope.

Good grief! Does anybody realize that football is about making changes, adjustments, AND PROGRESSING!

They will progress and still go 10-2/9-3

I try not to come to these blogs too often anymore because people like god and greyhound and Knelson make me sad for humanity. Here it is, a blog about our starting right tackle who will miss ANOTHER season, and all they can do is spew hate about how they can’t wait to see us lose 4-5 games? Isn’t that what Tech loses EVERY year? Please tell me. When was the last time Tech won 10 games. ?? Anyone?? Why are they on our blog in the first place? It’s utterly classless and pathetic. They give a horrible name to their institution.

Notes about the game:
1. I’m not ready to call Joe Cox a bust until he has a chance to play at full health. I’m not saying that the “flu” did or didn’t affect his game, but I remember when I had it a couple years ago and I had absolutely NO energy for a good week. He just looked sluggish.
2. I am so sad about Trinton Sturdivant. Good luck to him.
3. Where was Marlon Brown on Saturday?
4. I love how last year, it was “fire Willie” and now this year it’s “fire Bobo.” I actually just read an article recently in SI or NY Times or something where they rated the top offensive coodinators in the nation. Guess who was in the top 10? Mike Bobo. In fact, I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure he was the only OC from the SEC to crack the top 10. Give the guy a chance.

I’m not ready to say that the sky is falling and we’re looking at a losing season. Let’s play a few more games first. As a proud ALUMNI (ahem Knelson), I will support these guys til the end. Have a great day everyone.

I find it interesting that the “Fire WM” are already out. Dawgs D played good. They shut Bryant down pretty much the whole game. The DC from OSU even said UGA’s D controlled the style of play all afternoon. No we didn’t pressure the QB, we just kept Bryant from going 10- 200 with 3+ scores like he does on evey other team they faced. Great players are going to get theirs. UGA kept Bryant in check for the most part. Another point on our susposedly bad D is we controled Hunter. What with 70 yards on 23 carries. UGA D dictated the flow of the game. Another point on the QB pressure is OSU ran the ball an awful lot also. UGA had to respect the run before pressuring the QB. I say enough of the “Fire WM” chants until this weekend. They will probably start up if we don’t shut out and hold USC East to negative yardage.

The reason we lost that game was the inability of Cox to execute his throws. I don’t want to hear crap about dropped passes (by the way, AJ had 2 that I counted. One for a TD.). Alot of passes that hit WRs hands were hung up in the air or thrown behind the WR. There wasn’t going to be any YAC even if they were caught. And it wasn’t because he was sick. Most players when they are sick tend to bear down and focus more. Maybe if he was slinging like Staff, we could go with the Joe was sick excuse. The simple truth is Joe Cox is not a SEC QB. Logan Gray will have his shot after the USCEast game. That was about the time Staff got his shot, right?
Also Samuel will be ok at RB, but he is not a starter. We need to get King or Ealy in there. We have to have a RB with some cut back ability. Samuel is a bruiser, and he will be a good change of pace back with his physicality. But a King or Ealy will have that HR factor we need at RB. THe OL is not overpowering. That is a concern, and has been under CMR. We don’t play with a nastiness of a UF or LSU. We are to finess. That will hamper a physical staright ahead runner like Samuel. While the OL may open holes on the backside, it does Samuel no good because he is not a cut back runner. You have to know how your RB runs so you can block accordingly. Now that we have lost Sturdivant for the year, our OL can go back into disaray. We didn’t lose a good OL, we lost our best OL. The rest are merely good, adequate. Good and adequate are not going to win SEC Champ or MNC. Hey it could be worse. We could be the Sooners this week.

Once again dawggirl proves my point. Its ok to talk about your school just dont talk about mine. Oh and if you have a top 10 offense then there are 50 better. Look at the stats from week one and see how many schools rank above them. Of lets make it easier , only look to SEC schools. The UGA Spring game showed the lack of offense for the Dogs.

Hey, Tech posters….

It was kinda funny to do the whole “45-42″ thing during the offseason. I get it – you have bragging rights.

But this past UGA loss has nothing to do with you, so pretty please – with sugar on top – buzz off, will ya? Come talk smack in November before our game, sure. That’s part of the college football rivalry experience… but continually posting about anything bad that happens to Georgia is really a classless gesture. While some of us could find a little humor in the Tech vs UGA stuff – these recent posts just make you look angry, bitter and foolish.

As for the game, we lost a competitve game to a top 10 team on the road. If we were picked to go 9-3, wouldn’t it be fair to think this could have been one of those 3 losses? The only team on our schedule ranked higher is Florida.

Everybody relax. We had Joe Cox, Richard Samuel, Branden Smith, Orsen Charles and Tavarras King out there trying to make plays. Not one of them has played any significant time if any for the dawgs. It’s gonna take a second.

Meanwhile, the defense looks motivated and ready to really hit some people. I didn’t see many missed tackles and the played very good assignment defense. They were put in bad situations and still held the Cowboy offense to their least amount of points in YEARS.

Good luck rehabbing Trinton. Feel awful for you.

Let’s get ready for Spurrier folks! The REAL season begins Saturday!

I feel bad for Trinton. I really do. However, that knee injury was pretty much his own fault. Nobody rolled into him or anything like that. He was falling and stumbling foward. So he stuck his leg out to try to stop himself…all 300lbs. So his knee buckled and down he went. If he would of just let himself hit the ground and roll it never would of happend. I know that hind site is 20/20 but that seems like technique to me.

How in the He!! can any realistic UGA fan say that “UGA will be fine”? The lack of preparation and discipline is the sign of another poorly coached team that will be LUCKY to win 7 games this year. We were supposed to be strong on the o-line and we score 10 points against the 93rd ranked defense last year. I can’t believe that OSU’s defense got SO much better in one offseason. The UGA staff had 7 + months to prepare for OSU (with plent of tape on this team and same players) and this was the best they could do??? I am saying it now because there has been plenty of evidence to support my theory, this coaching staff as currently constituted is NOT GOOD ENOUGH to make a difference and or run at a NC. If they were, they MUST/would excell when they do not have SUPERSTARS on the sideline and coach this team up…when has that ever occurred?

September 7th, 2009

…did not stop the high powered OSU “O” – IF they had they would have only scored 16 points (3 field goals instead of 1 and 2 TDs). That is what a “good” SEC does, and what UGA did not do.

You can spin it anyway you want, the bottom line is we lost to a pretty good team, however, it was a team that we could have, and should have, beaten,, no matter who played QB and no matter who fumbled (by the way, during spring practice I questioned all the hype given the small UGA running back – and I was castigated by bloggers who said I had no clue as to what I was talking about since he was All-Everything in HS.

As someone else said (me) – if we lose this week I really have difficulty seeing UGA win more than 2 games this year – and then this blog, and other blogs, will really be fun to read – as if Football really matters in the grand scheme of things called life!

I sure hope I am wrong about the 2 win thing!

I hope he doesnt’ read it either. I tdoesn’t make much sense on the play calling. I still say the biggest problem could’ve been that know one, inlcuding UGA had ever seen that Ok State Defense. It was new, and not seen before. There were no films, no tendencies to work against, so I’ll give them a pass on that. d played well. They stopped them 8 times inside the 10 and surrendered a field goal. They had some tough plays, but the offense still couldn’t score. I hope that we see improvement there.

Coach Smith is right. UGA lost to a very good team. Tough game on the road. As a SC fan, I know UGA has a better D and better atheletes than NCSU. It will be harder between the hedges for the obvious reasons. Oh and SC is starting 5 freshmen on the road, too.
The line is 7.5 and will rise. I do believe SC offence will be better because the game plan will be different. SC had 3 DL suspended for State. N.Pepper has a chronic bad knee and coaches did not think that he could play the entire game. So, SC ran 2/3 of the time against a good D line trying to play field position and ball control.
My prediction is if SC’s D plays great and the offence does not turn the ball over, it will be close. If Garcia is rushed and he gets happy feet, SC will get blown out.

People who want to fire the OC or DC have no clue what they’re talking about. They just see results. Why sports is results-oriented, you should educate yourself a little more before ripping people who devote their lives to their jobs. I just don’t think he is the player he was made out to be. He should get better, but how long can UGA wait? USC was given the ball inside the 10 yrdline on the first play and that was their only score. UGA and USC play each other tough most times. This could get ugly. Sorry for T. This entire problem goes to the top, the President and Athletic Director. How do you explain only receiving 5,000 tickets with a cut-off at 4,000 points to a game that was not sold out and had 10,000 empty seats. That’s right, we set a new record for attendance, at 53,000, the biggest game in their history, but not sold out and a herd of empty seats. No major conference endured a more humiliating opening weekend than the ACC, which went 4-6 in non-conference play despite the fact six of those games came against I-AA opponents. The league lost all four of its BCS-conference matchups (NC State fell to South Carolina, Virginia Tech to Alabama, Wake Forest to Baylor and Maryland to Cal), while Virginia (to William and Mary) and Duke (to Richmond) fell to I-AA foes. Mind you, many of the victims were picked near the bottom of the conference anyway, but it doesn’t make the idiot who said the league could be “poised for prominence” look very smart.

Most of the venters on here have never played a down of football. Georgia had two calls go against them that could have made a difference in the game. The 4th and two in the third quarter that gave OSU a first and goal at the one and the 3rd and long in the fourth quarter when Georgia was flagged for a personal foul unnecessary hit to the head area would have made the game a 13-10 game and would have changed how the playcalling was done by Coach Bobo in that fourth quarter. When Georgia was in the I they were able to move the ball effectively. I don’t care about anyone that gets on here and says “don’t blame the refs”. Those two calls were wrong and it gave OSU the points they needed to put the game away.

You are who you are. If UGA is not a passing team, then UGA is not a passing team. 10 to 15 passes & run, run , run. 3 to 4 yards on a running play is OK. Line up, run the ball, occupy the clock. Move a tackle to TE if necessary. Coaches must be patient & concerned with first downs.

Defense looks good enough if the offense will occupy the clock.

I rewatched the game today. I saw alot more positives than when I watched SAT. One, Samuel did not look that bad. I think he will be better anbd better as the season goes. He will also be better by having King healthy to change the pace. Cox looked good on the underneath, kind of like a Chad Pennington type of QB. His problems came when he had to put some fire on the ball. That proposes a problem in SEC play with faster more athletic DBs. The drops were mostly by Frosh or first time players, understandable being away vs. top 10 team, in their first real playing time. White’s drop was a killer. However, I counted 3 drops by AJ (1 for a TD). The OL is what it is… versitle and experienced. They are not physical, more finesse. I don’t knpw how that is going to play in the SEC. It hasn’t faired well in the past. The defense looked lost at times. I thought OSU did a good job of changing the pace with quick counts and such. I thought the DBs did a good job on Bryant. They had him frustrated. He had like 5 penalties on his own. Listening to OSU coaches, they had good things to say about UGA and how we dictated the flow of the game. UGA did that, they just didn’t execute on some plays and still made stupid and untimely penalities. As far as the hit by Jones. I thought it was a hard clean hit. I slowed the game down and replayed that play over and over. What I came away from that hit (right or wrong) was that Jones didn’t just hit the WR, he drove his forearm and shoulder into the WR. It appeared to me that he went into the shoulder and came up into the helmet area. Like I said, right or wrong, but I am guessing that is why the call was made.

One big thing that bothered me is even when time was running out and we should have been playing desperate we still attempted to block a punt. The guy could punt it a mile and high which gave them good coverage. You’d think we would have tried going all out for the block, if nothing else to make them think about it the next time he punted. I’m looking for the fight in my Dawgs.

Dawgs have had better games. Both teams looked rusty which is to be expected. Defense did a good job with what was handed to them. I realize OK st. had more penalties but the ones against the Dawgs hurt more. Phantom clipping call on the kick return and the hit over the middle near the end of the game hurt bad. Either way, tough loss, hope we can regroup and GATA against SC.

IMO the Dawgs as a whole did not GATA. That was the single biggest problem. The defense came closer than the offense by a long shot, but even then there were no sacks and little pressure on the qb. The secondary played very well with the exception of the 40+ yarder to Bryant. The O came out and dominated for exactly one series. They have to play for 60 minutes on both sides of the ball. Play calling on the O was lackluster. I said it a few times before that this would be the toughest year for Richt as a coach. He has had to be more involved with the D due to last years performance and he needed to be spending as much or more time with the O due to lack of skill players returning and helping Bobo becoming a better O coordinator.

Joe Cox is a great story of a book we’ve read before, only this one won’t end with D.J. Shockley leading UGA to the promised land. Cox is the undenialable leader of the team, but lacks the big time arm that is necessary to run CMR’s Pro-Style Offense. There were multiple times in the game where Green and Charles were open and if the ball would have been on a line, like we have been used to seeing for the last three years, would have resulted in some game changing plays. I think another more concerning issue was that the offense lacked any creativity after the first series. There is a reason that first drive was so successful, after that nothing….Thankfully SC only scored 7 points in week one so we could win 10-7!!! GO DAWGS!!!

Any of you media guys got enough cohunas to ask CMR why he talks a good story, but still will not let us kick it deep into or out of the endzone? Don’t give up on the D yet. We did alright in this first game even though we all realize OSU did more to stop themselves with all their penalties than we did. I am not responsible for that touchdown. I know from last year that I am not a cover guy and that is why I was moved to safety so I can help closer to the line. Y’all saw me on Sat and know I am fearless and can deliver a heck of a hit. On Saturday when the refs would appear on the TV, it said Big 12 official underneath it. Actually, they were SEC refs, many of whom have called games for UGA before. I really don’t see why that’s relevant, but I figured I’d straighten it out for you boys anyway : )

Now I won’t blame our loss on the refs…we were rusty and sluggish on offense, too vanilla on ST (minus that awesome PR that was called back for a BS clipping call), but I was pleased with our defense other than their lack of penetration. They hustled well, tackled well, and really minimized OSU’s best players. But I do know that going into the 4th quarter it was a one score game. Having our PR called back, having OSU granted a first down on a fourth and one (or two) when even the announcers could see that he was stopped at the line of scrimmage, and that BS intentional roughness call really didn’t help matters at all. It went from us having a great chance, to us having no chance.

As for the fire Richt, Bobo, and Martinez calls…not gonna happen. Richt is one of the best coaches in the nation, and honestly who would we get to replace him that would be an upgrade? Bobo does call some plays that make me scream, but all in all he’s usually a very efficient play caller. Martinez has nothing to be ashamed of after Saturday, though I hope Rodney Garner is chewing some DL ass before the USCe game.

It’s the first game. Yeah we lost and it sucked hard, but it’s the first game and it’s OOC. We have several more weeks of football ahead of us, and we’re not going 2-10, regardless of what people think. Don’t let the Techies bother you. I personally have never cared whether or not Tech is having a good or bad season. The only time they are on my radar is that last game in November. I love that they care so damn much about us that they have to comment all offeseason, then every week whether we win or lose. Keep it coming, Techies.

I’d rather watch UGA lose than not watch them play at all. Pick your chins up boys…regardless of the record, it’s always great to be a Georgia Dawg!

If Richt doesn’t hire a PROVEN OC and DC after this season, it’s time to let him go. How many more years on his contract?

Also, why didn’t UGA work Will Muschamp into the system? He coached well at AUB, LSU, and now is primed to take over TEX. His intensity reminds me of Erk! That’s a huge loss and frankly a huge error on the UGA’s part.

Say what you want about the defense and WM but the offense lost that one. They scored seven on the opening drive and were hushed for the majority of the game. The best defense in the world will give up points regardless of who they’re playing if they’re on the field all day. Couldn’t sustain drives and give defense a breather, that’s why they lost. Also Joe Cox isn’t that good but Logan Gray isn’t any better. Taking Cox out will definitely forfeit the season.

AN OPEN LETTER TO MARK RICHT

Calmed down enough to type coherently. I have been supporter of yours. That ended in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Now believe you are a liability to my beloved Bulldogs. See only downward trend, bitter losses and complete unaccountability. Know why loss in Oklahoma to overrated Cowpatties anguished Bulldog Nation so much? No, I did not think you did! These northern upstarts disrespected the Dawgs. Called them out! Mocked them by saying the point spread would be 300 plus points. Those 24 points seemed like 100! Know what would have happended had the loudmouths treated Alabama, Florida or LSU in such a manner? Their new fancy smancy stadium would have been broken in with a loss of no less than four touchdowns! Any SEC/Southern team with any pride or dignity whatsoever would have left that new stadium with a victory! The Dawgs should have been motivated enough to kick those upstart cowboy wannabes into Texas! The fact they were not exposes your skills as a motivator. The Dawgs did post a face-saving TD then went through the motions for the next three plus quarters. The field goal was an unanticipated plus which meant nothing in the big scheme. You appeared so uninterested that you failed to get your hair ruffled during an obviously biased fourth down mark against the Dawg defense which led to one Cowpatty TD plus a phantom personal foul penalty on Dawgs which led to another. I am hoping that a donation to your favorite charity was not made by that zillionaire in Oklahoma but I have ruled nothing out. It was a sad day for the Bulldog Nation, Southern football and all who believe loudmouth blowhards should get their comeuppance! The Dawg season is officially over. Even if you beat SC by 100 points. You would not if you could! Being a Christian is fine but a lying backstabber has the Crimson Tide in the hunt for a national championship! Will not mean anything in hereafter but fans in Alabama sure feel happier than members of Bulldog Nation in here and now! How deep is pain? Imagine a stranger having intimate relations with daughter/girlfriend/wife or son/boyfriend/husband in a tremendously expensive hotel room then you are required to pay the tab. Vile and nauseating. A bunch of Cowpatties abused the Bulldog Nation without consequence. That is something I will never forget! Nor forgive. Do the right thing. Said as simply and plainly as I could. A completely disillusioned Stendec.

THE GOOD: As the announcers kept pointing out on Saturday…Richt has only lost 4 non-conference games at UGA!!!

THE BAD: He has never beaten any non-conference opponent that finished the year above #18. Hawaii and FSU both finished #18. He has won 5 non-conference ranked teams between #18 and #25 and lost to two teams ranked #18 – #25 (GT last year, and BC back in 2001). He also lost to #6 WVU and now #8 OSU.

THE UGLY: The fan base keeps complaining about wanting us to toughen up our non-conference schedule…so what do you think now? We generally play a guarnateed win (Boise State, Georgia Southern, Arkansas State) and you can bet this was seen as a warm up game 6 years ago when it was announced and the Cowboys were losing 7 to 8 games per year. But man this hurt! We lose to South Carolina and we actually could lose 7 or 8 games this year! Arkansas, UT, Ky, and Vandy all played well this weekend and could conceivably give us a challenge. we are obviously not good enough to win games with A) bad coaching, i truly think CMB and CWM get bored with what is working and say to themselves,”well, that is working, lets try another aspect of our game and see if will work too” B) bad refereeing, not to say that beat us, but we really can’t overcome bad calls. good teams can.. C)samuel at running back, guy just runs too upright, he’s gonna get hurt, you watch. he may be fast, but one guy can tackle him because of the way he runs. hope king can make a difference there. and D) turnovers, or lack thereof. all this talk in camp about the secondary making plays, don’t believe it. the ole saying of “don’t believe everything you hear and only half of what you see” comes to mind…and we’ve got to protect the ball to have a chance. E) bad QB play, if COX is going to play like a freshman, i say put a freshman in and get him some experience..he can’t be running out of bounds and losing fumbles.

My take…..
UGA is, has and will ALWAYS be my team with Florida State 2nd. When the announcement came that CMR was taking over i was extremely pleased. Since that time CMR has turned out NOT to be the coach for UGA. I played 4 years of D1 ball and NOTHING matters other than National Championships, Conference Championships and beating your rivals. What we continue to see is a mediocure product on the field with little to no emotion and lesser creativity. I have 100% confidence in our recruiting but if we cannot Coach these kids up it mean nothing. Winning 9 & 10 games a season without anything to show for it is good for the Admins only to obtain more booster money but true fans wasnt and deserve more. What is better out there at this point than CMR you ask?? Who knows but standing pat and not being agressive on Coach selections is exactly like the product we see on the field. Non agressive and just going thru the motions. On Saturdays game i will say this….I am NOT a CWM fan by any stetch but you CANNOT hang this one on the Defense. When we are still into having 20-30 SCRIPTED plays called BEFORE the game even begins and are to stubborn to change then the offense will continue to stagnate. Yes we scored on our 1st drive but what did Ok State do after they adjusted, they adapted. What did we do?? We kept to our pregame plans of running these scripted plays regardless of what their defense was doing. You can say its BoBo but CMR is the head coach and at anytime can VETO decisions and change the way the game is called. These are still kids and they take their lead from their coaches. When was the last time you saw CMR lose his mind on a bad call or play?? ……….my point exactly. Vangorder had his defenses fired up because he satyed that way and they on field play shown as a result. I am a DAWG thru & thru and i will not excuse poor coaching. The talent is on the field we just dont know how to use or inspire it.

Dawg Reflections

Unlike some, I am not down on Bobo and Martinez. All in all I thought the defense did a fairly good job keeping us in the game despite the short fields, bad calls, etc. Dez Bryant made one play (he is a big time player) on long pass. The second touchdown was a gift from the refs on a bad call (totally bad and subjective rule that will affect the outcome of many D1 games this year)that resulted in a deflated defense. There are 2 primary issues I would like Coach Richt to address AND fix. First, the kickoff situation is still a problem. Walsh nailed a nice kick for 3 when we needed it, but how we have not solved the kickoff issue at this point is beyond me. Puts way too much stress on the defense. Second and more pressing issue, the QB. Sick or not, I don’t think Joe Cox can lead this program to a winning season. He is a great guy, loyal to the program, and I really hoped I would feel differently after the first game, but I don’t. I saw enough in the Spring to lead me to this conclusion before the season even started. The arm’s just not there. Ok. St. made one simple adjustment post our first drive, bringing the safety up to stop the run and that was that. Think SEC DC’s won’t take this to heart?? Once we were forced to make plays in the passing game we were sunk. 11 possessions with nothing??? I appreciate Coach’s loyalty to Joe Cox, but the hard truth is he is probably a serviceable #2 at best. Though I would be happy to see Gray get a shot, the future of the program is on Aaron Murray’s arm (and it’s a great arm). I would rather see us lose with a freshman playmaker at QB making some poor decisions, than sit back and see us go down 10 points in a game and know that we are finished b/c we can’t make plays in the passing game. All the receiver talent in the world makes no difference if you can’t get the ball to them consistently and down the field. I would be happier building for the future losing 7 games this year with a true freshman QB, than accepting a SURE 5 or more loss season playing a QB simply out of loyalty. Do you think Saben, Spurrier, Miles, Meyer, etc. would do this? I don’t…

Large Orange, how are those Orange Jump suits working out for you. I don’t think I said anything personal except that you define a good coach as a punk a/k./a Kiffin. His father got in a fist fight with Danny Ford after a game at NC STATE. He couldn’t even manage being the head coach of the Raiders. That is what those comments relate too!

After reading your insult again, . You obviously have not read many of my comments, By the way, your Vols did look good, Phil didn’t leave a bare cabinet.

Denver Dog….talk about my wife but don’t talk about my coach. The only thing Kiffin is guilty of is maybe running his mouth a little too much. However, what team did you hear the most about in the spring and summer? What team signed the #1 running back in the country ( Bryce Brown ) who said he had never considered UT before Kiffin got there. The #1 kicker for 2010 has already committed to UT for next year because of Lane Kiffin. So if thats your definition of a punk..then so be it. We will see who is flapping gums on October 10th.

Our players were standing there with their arms up in the air waiting on the calls. They quick snapped and we had no chance……maybe cause we didnt have a play. Richt has replicated in his UGA era, a team that generally would compete at the highest levels of the ACC. He gets athletic D players BUT the UGA O lines lack the genuine physicality of the LSU,BAMA or U of F or U of T teams. This is true year in and out.

I viewed the VA Tech game w/ Bama and that game fully illustrated what I am saying. Va Tech is a fine ACC D team but they were simply worn down by the grinding that the Bama O did on them, play after play. Even at the halftime break Sabin said to the TV interviewer, that “we will grind on them” in the second half and they did. Bama looks to me like the old Penn State teams of the 70s and 80s with huge players ( UGA vs. Penn State Sugar Bowl in 81) that can run and block. Strong they looked vs. Va Tech. Physical.

UGA will not win more than 5 or 6 games this year. Even KY is very, very physical, because their coach Brooks knows what is needed to try to compete and win in the SEC on D and with his mediocre recruiting, almost get it done for KY standards. They are also physical.

Richt’s era has demonstrated that our teams are athletic and our linemen are fair but not great per SEC standards. Losing TS is no more of an issue than last year. Line Coach Searels is the ONE BRIGHT SPOT on the UGA staff. He will leave, I suspect after this soon to be dismal season.

Cox cannot play big time SEC QB
UGA has norreal brutish running game and RS and CK are only decent back ups and both over rated as SEC backs go.
We have some decent receivers BUT NO NONE to throw them the skin. The other UGA bright spot and we have no one to throw them the ball. Logan will have to emerge and throw on the run for us to have a chance.Cox can cheer them on. Logan and Aaron Murray apparently.
D is always suspect with CWM.
Kicking and specaia teams are very, very spotty.
UGA possess a general apathtitic attitude toward WINNING.
We have developed a star system and that is what the players seek ………..notoriety for the NFL.

UGA will be 5-7 or 6-6. Tough to admit coming from a UGA grad.

Changes, they are a coming.

Here is the skinny on what you guys fing laughable about UT new commitment @ QB.
This guy could be one of the biggest sleepers this class has to offer and it may not be long until others start catching on. Bray reminds us of what stage Matt Leinart was at coming out of high school only right handed. He has prototypical height and his frame development upside is off the charts once he hits a college weight program. Looks like a Drew Bledsoe build. Is long and lanky, but not uncoordinated like most would be in his frame. As a result, the thing that stands out about Bray is his release– quick, compact, not elongated and whip-like which is what we see a lot of from tall skinny kids.

Bulldawgs Best:

I agree 100 percent with the points that you make and expressed the same ones on several blogs after Saturday’s defeat.
Richt is too complacent in coaching this team. The talent that has been brought in is not being utilized in a system to obtain their maximum effectiveness. I have not been a fan of Bobo’s stale, predictable playcalling sice he took over the duty and from what I’ve seen since last season’s ending, we are only in store for more of the same.
We need to see some fire and we need to see true discipline and heart from this coaching staff.

I think the defense will be improved this year but was surprised to see OSU run it up the gut for big yardage. No team should be able to pound the ball in the middle against this defensive front.

This game against the Ole’ Ball Sack will really be a true indication of where this squad is presently and what is going to have to be done.

Mark Richt has had top ten recruiting classes for eight years with another one predicted this year. He is a wonderful christain man of great character. He and his staff are great at bringing in exceptional talent but thats about it. Saban has worked his majic again starting his third season. Georgia beats teams because they have more talent. ex. MSU, Hawaii, Wisconsin, Purdue. Georgia’s program is already behind Alabama. Saban will win a national title in the next two years. He will have three top ten classes.

If Georgia is going to be successful it is going to have to average over 30 points a game. I guarantee that at the end of the season every team in the top eight will have averaged between 30-40 points. DAWGS offense is going to have to step it up. Don’t care what the defense does, if DAWGS don’t average at least 30 it is going to be a long long season.

Shards 1967, I was saying something similar yesterday. Our OL is soft with finesse. We don’t have a punishing run game. We always toss sweep or run the draw, of run the stretch play. We never pound it up the middle unless short yardage with a FB. We don’t have the OL or the RBs to do that. Our RBs are more scat backs. This is a primary reason why we have such a tough time competing in the rugged SEC.

Saturday was just an extension of this spring. Remember, there is a reason he has been a back-up for 4 straight years-we’ve got exactly what we saw Saturday-no offense capable of pouring it on–Mark my words, UT will be back with a vengence in 2-3 years. They had true frosh making plays and at least Kiffin had the balls to play them instead of burying them in the bench(hey Marlon and Rontavious) bet they wish they would of went with UT and LSU respectively. If CMR does not grow some B—- and fire these two circus clowns then Damenon Evans should fire him. He thinks that his loyalty will win games but he is wrong. We have some of the best talent around but none of the coaches can coach the young men to their potential. I think we need to check and see if Nutt at Ole Miss or Pedersen at Boise is ready to be a dawg. Once again let me say fire BOBO THE BOZO and SLICK WILLIE. BOZO wasn’t even a good QB when he was at GA. The only ones who want these guys around are coaches from the opposing teams and their mothers.
