Georgia-Florida A&M game discussed
Georgia continues to seek an opponent to fill out its 2010 home football schedule and has had discussions with Florida A&M, as well as other schools, UGA associate athletics director Arthur Johnson said today.
“But [there's] nothing firm,” he said.
Johnson said Florida A&M remains a possibility for the final spot on the Bulldogs’ 2010 schedule, but he said a deal could be struck with someone else first.
Aside from the annual game against Georgia Tech, the Dogs have non-conference games next year against Louisiana (Lafayette) in Athens and against Colorado in Boulder.

USF has been to a bowl the last 3 years in a row and won all of them. They are not bad, but you are correct, we all schedule bum teams to heal up and play the powerhouses in our conferences. It would be different if the SEC was like the Big 10 where 2 teams are good or the Pac 10 where 1 team is good.

****not a single Techie fan has ANY right to talk smack about UGA scheduling a lesser opponent. Terrorist Tech has successfully created a rivalry between JACKSONVILLE STATE, and let’s not forget the OH SO CLOSE game against GARDNER WEBB last year.
On a business side, UGA pockets 7 figures EVERY home game, because it’s a no-brainer that 92,746 LOYAL FANS will show up, generating revenue for our program. As much as people say they don’t like it, it’s a practical guaranteed victory toward your ranking as well. Every big program does it, so it’s no advantage what so ever.
Problem with Tech is, they pay some weak program to visit the ghetto and risk being mugged on the way to Bobby Dudd Crackerbox, (Middle Tenn State visits the “flats” October 16th 2010), and nobody shows up to the game. Tech has only sold 26,000 season tickets for this upcoming season… thats roughly 30,000 seats available every game before 1-888-TECH-TIX and walk up purchases. THAT IS A JOKE!!!!! Hey Tech, maybe you should grab your family jewels and schedule teams like Oklahoma State or Arizona State, that would bring a crowd as opposed to continually losing money to “boost” your win column.

As a CFB fan, I’d love to see UF match up against another mid/top level team from a BCS conference other than the ACC or SEC during the regular season! Are you telling me you are excited to watch FIU vs. your mighty Gators in The Swamp???? Might as well bring a freakin’ pillow and take a nap after kickoff.
As a Georgia man, I love the fact that we are traveling outside the SE to play other teams from other BCS conferences. It makes attending games and travel on the team difficult, but it’s worth it. And I’d love to see a regular home/home with Clemson like we had back in the day!

As a Dawg fan, I can’t STAND seeing these David vs Goliath matchups. I won’t go to Sanford Stadium or watch on tv b/c they are such snoozefests. Put some good teams on the schedule like the majority of our non conference games this year and lets play ball. I know its hard to get some of the bigger BCS conference schools to put us on thier out of conference schedule and thats the big battle, but geeeez- there is NOTHING interesting in my opinion about watching UGA play Florida A & M.

A Gator fan raising anything about Georgia’s OOC scheduling must be on drugs. Florida plays FSU and that is great. Their other OOC games, other than the rare occasion when they play Miami are a joke. The Gators have not played nearly the number of BCS level (Major) OOC teams as Georgia….recently or historically (For Gator fans, historically includes games prior to 1990). It is not close.

I would make the FAMU trip just to see the Marching 100. At least UGA schedules interesting teams like FAMU or linked teams like Ga Southern as often as possible. Would love to see the Mountaineers come to Sanford as they possibly have the most rabid fans in all of college football. Gardner-Webb, Charleston Southern, UT-Martin, Tenn Tech, Western KY? Awful!

Doing my due diligence on Willie Martinez’s defense, I ran across an eye-opening score on Page 163 of Georgia’s 2009 media guide. The score from last year’s Georgia Tech game is reported as Georgia 42, Tech 42. Which would be a tie. Which would be, from the UGA perspective, wholly preferable to reality.
We all know Tech and Georgia can’t even agree on which side has won how many games in the bitter series: Georgia claims 59 victories against 37 losses and five ties; Tech claims 39 victories against 59 losses and five ties. Still, it’s not often we see a loss turn into a tie. (Although Georgia folks still insist a win became a loss in 1999 when Al Ford and his crew failed to see Jasper Sanks not fumble.)
So this was pretty odd, and definitely amusing. Even Claude Felton, Georgia’s Hall of Fame publicist, laughed off the typo. “I guess we felt like a tie was better than a loss,” he e-mailed. (Though he did note the score and the result — Tech won 45-42 — are correct in the all-important series standings.)
In 2004 Georgia had great fun with Reggie Ball’s fourth-down throwaway: “A math school and the players can’t count to four?” So consider this numerical payback: All the calculators on all the computers at Michael Adams’ university? They stop functioning above 42.

In the latest twist to Georgia’s preparations for the Sept. 5 season opener in Stillwater, Okla., a practice game was played between the hedges. On one side, playing as “Georgia”: the Bulldogs’ first- and second-team offensive and defensive units. On the other side, portraying “Oklahoma State”: the Bulldogs’ scout team, consisting of players from the lower rungs of the depth chart who were given roles of impersonating various OSU players.
The coaches spotted the scout team — “Oklahoma State” — a 21-0 lead before play began.
“I think they did that so we would come out and have a different mind-set,” No. 1 quarterback Joe Cox told reporters afterward. “You know, we didn’t want to come up here when y’all ask what the score was and have to say we lost because we couldn’t come back.”
So they came back, outscoring the scout team 27-3 in a half to “win” 27-24.
“We needed this, I think, to get in the feel of playing football again,” defensive tackle Jeff Owens said. “I got jittery when we came out of the locker room and heard the band playing [on the stadium sound system]. I mean, it made you feel like it was an actual game.”
Said Cox: “We definitely had a lot of things we did really well that we can maybe solidify in our game plan. And there were some other things we ran today that maybe we’ll say, ‘Well, that’s not what we want to run.’ ”
In general, Cox admitted, “I don’t really know what to take from it.”
The practice game — actually, it was a half — was closed to the media but here’s what coach Mark Richt took from it: “Overall, my feeling was we weren’t quite ready to beat [the real] Oklahoma State. I’m glad we have 10 more days to prepare.”
Richt said the offense was “erratic” and not as explosive as he’d have liked, although Cox “was sharp running the system.” Richt said there were “a few too many penalties” but some “good, solid tackling.” Redshirt freshman defensive back Makiri Pugh intercepted a pass “at the end to ice the game for Georgia,” Richt reported.

Sanford Drive: The SEC isn’t anything great with the exception of dominating UF, LSU, and BAMA. UGAG isn’t in the same planet as those teams. Call It Like It Is: I don’t think GT can handle UF or other powerhouse SEC teams. However, from top to bottom, I don’t think the SEC is the best football conference in the country. I love UF, as I am a GT grad and my gf goes to UF. More reasons to hate UGAG! With the exception of Bama, LSU, UF and Ole Miss, all the other SEC teams including UGA are mediocre. However, in the ACC, you got FSU, ranked, GT, ranked, VT, ranked, UNC, ranked, Clemson, Miami and Wake receiving votes. In the SEC, you got UF, ranked, Bama, ranked, LSU, ranked UGAG, ranked, and some teams receiving votes.
