Richt watches his words

As Mark Richt walked to his red truck in the Cobb Galleria Centre parking deck after last night’s Greater Atlanta Bulldog Club meeting, he admitted that he’s more restrained about what he says at such gatherings than he used to be.

“You gotta be more careful,” he said. “It’s just going to get blown way out of proportion [if you’re not].

“I think in years past everybody would get on the old tour and you’d say a joke about a certain opponent. And it’d never get out there because it was just everybody having a little fun.

“But then all of a sudden it becomes Internet [material]. You can’t even tell a good joke anymore without it becoming a big stinking deal. And so you got to be careful what you do.”

The first question from the floor to Richt last night tested his caution: “Based on this year’s plan, how bad are we going to stomp Florida?”

Richt did not, as Mark Bradley noted, take the Gator bait.

Richt said he likes the fact the Dogs have an open date before the Gators game, then offered only this: “I can promise you there has never been one game we have played at Georgia that we didn’t believe we were going to win. And the same thing is true this year of all our games, including Florida.”

Richt did offer some interesting insights on a range of topics, which I tried to cover in this story.

One of those topics was the coaches’ predisposition to play –- rather than red-shirt – all of the incoming freshmen at skill positions other than quarterback this season. That’s no surprise at receiver (where Georgia must get help from Marlon Brown and Rantavious Wooten), tight end (Orson Charles and Arthur Lynch) and tailback (Washaun Ealey). But Richt said after the meeting that he also was referring to the incoming freshmen at linebacker and defensive back.

“When you talk about special teams, you want your runners, your hitters,” he said. “We’re starting out saying, ‘Hey, let’s play these guys; let’s get them on special teams and teach them what to do.’ They’ll help us on special teams, and they will grow as players at their positions, too.” Some of them might grow into starters by mid-season, if not before, he noted.

Preseason practice, by the way, starts one week from today.

…commentary on GT fans when they get up in the morning and their first thought is to get on a UGA story and post negative comments – 4 of the first five posts this morning are GT fans, and the 5th is from a Bama fan, but at least he tried to stay on topic.

But, then again, maybe it also speaks volumes about UGA fans sleeping in and wasting the day away!

The translation here is that CMR is really unsure about his team thus cant say much of anything about his team. CMR has reached his plateau and now since the departure of BVG also with no more Donnan recruits things will slide even more. Now even more excuses will fly….. We are playing more true freshmen. SOS SOS SOS

Donnan’s recruits have been gone for years, stupid. Freshmen just might be getting the chance to make an immediate impact because they are tat talented. Did you ever think about that?

Ho hum dawg is obviously a tech fan. Richt ran out of Donnan recruits 4 years ago. Two years ago the Dawgs went 11-2 and finished #2 in the country. Richt has had a top 10 recruiting class every year he has been at Georgia. The decision to play freshmen isn’t because of a lack of talent on the team, but because players coming in now a days are much better coached in High School and more prepared to step in and play at the college level, especially the caliber of players that UGA recruits. The other factor is that with highly talented players you can only count on keeping them for three years before they become draft eligible like Stafford and Moreno so you need to use them while you can.

And for god and greyhound at least UGA won their post season game instead of getting spanked like Tech did by LSU hahahahahahaha!!!

Two years ago we got beat by a pathetic SC team and got stomped by a Tennessee team. Then we played an overrated Hawaii team in a Sugar Bowl game inwhich our offense still couldnt even hang a half a hundred on. Yeah 11 – 2 and we cried like a bunch of babies only to be way over ranked last year then got stomped by Bamma and Tebow.

OK. If you are going to be negative, or a pretender, then get off the train. Go get on the GT bandwagon. That thing runs about once every 8 years. It’s almost as bad as Halley’s Comet. Go to the GT blog site. As for your 45-42 win, congratulations. I guarantee you won’t sneak up on the Dawgs this year. Georgia will be fine. When did we as UGA fans become so disgruntled. Did you see the injuries on defense and offense last year? You win with good O-lines and D-lines. If you look we are 100% better at both. Sit back, relax, and enjoy football season. It is the greatest 4 months of the year. Keep the negativity away. I am tired of people trying to bring the season down before it ever begins.

It is rather amazing how many non-UGA fans tend to gravitate towards these AJC blogs. They must not have anywhere else to go or don’t have much to say about their own teams. Some of the comments, however, are just plain stupid (or made by stupid people). For example, the remarks about playing true freshmen. I would like to see the AJC sports guys put a piece together about how many true freshman actually played and for whom in the SEC last year. Our guy, A.J. Green, led the conference in receiving. Also, Richt (God bless our fearless leader), said he learned a valuable lesson about such with Knowshon. Of course, maybe consitently having top-ten recruiting classes has something to do with whether true freshman get played or not. The truth of the matter is that we of the Bulldog Nation are looking forward to another — yes another, incredibly exciting ten-win season and a bowl game. Maybe better. Go Dawgs !!!!

If you recruit talent, you play them early. Except for certain positions like QB where a true freshman rarely can adjust to college that quickly. Playing them on special teams just gets better athletes on the field. Why is that wrong?

Answer: It is not. Only wrong to the jealous haters.

“god and greyhound,” cause they leave early for the NFL(?) Talent is talent (duh) and the best players will always beat out the other guys. Why did Matt Ryan start in front of D.J. Shockley for the Falcons? Why will Matthew Stafford beat out what’s-his-name for Detroit? Why does any team have upperclassmen who don’t start ahead of freshman. Why single out UGA? Dude, stop the hate…! Spread the Red & Black love!!! Go Dawgs !!!!

So hilarious are the punks that degrade Dawg sports teams. Let me see, CMR has averaged a ranking of seventh since 2001 in the recruiting polls. CMR has two SECCs in his tenure and has won three SECE’s titles. During the time when most of you gt punks were still pooping in your dorm room pajamas in your tickel piles (wait, you still are) the talent pool in Georgia and Florida has risen to such a level that you can afford to play freshman year in and out when you recruit like we do. Marlon Brown, and Harmon are no brainers as starters and so are 90% of everyone we brought in February. Its funny because for the first season in Lord knows how long you guys have a pre-season outlook at gt that is promising and I would be willing to bet…8-4 or 7-5 is all you do. With a beating in Hotlanta by whom I believe to be the most accurate passer we have had since DG. Plus with a backup QB accurate as he is fast and a stable of capable backs, the number one oline in the country, and a defense with a Curran,Gamble, chip on its shoulders…you jokers might get lucky to score at all!
