Spurrier made sure he voted for A.J.

Steve Spurrier might not have noticed that Tim Tebow’s name was missing from his pre-season All-SEC ballot.  But he made sure that A.J. Green’s name was on it.

The South Carolina coach said the Georgia receiver was one of just two names he noticed on the ballot, which he said was filled out by an aide, before hastily signing off on it.

“I can tell you two guys that were on there, A.J. Green and [Florida defensive end] Carlos Dunlap,” Spurrier said at SEC Media Days. “Those were the only two names I saw. I said, “That’s fine.’”

  – One more leftover from last week’s circus in Hoover, Ala.: Mark Richt was asked about preparing to face Oklahoma State’s defense, which last season ranked 93rd among the 119 Division I-A teams in total defense (allowing 405.5 yards per game) and 76th in scoring defense (allowing 28.1 points per game) but enters this season with a new coordinator, the veteran Bill Young.  “You look at where he’s been, and if it’s consistent [what he did] at Kansas and Miami [his two most recent stops] then schematically you know that is probably what he likes to do,” Richt said. “But as you’re studying his scheme, you’re not studying his personnel. And if you’re studying Oklahoma State’s personnel, it’s in a system that they’re probably not going to be running. Coaches don’t like the unknown, and we don’t know for sure what’s going to happen.”

  – And on to a new week: This is the last week before preseason practice starts in Athens.  So it’s time for the Greater Atlanta Bulldog Clubs’ annual “Celebration of Georgia Athletics” event tonight at the Cobb Galleria Centre. Social at 6 p.m.; program at 7 p.m.; free admission. On the program: Damon Evans, Richt, Mark Fox, gymnastics coach Jay Clark and equestrian coach Meghan Boenig. Should be fun. You planning to be there?

Mark Fox, gymnastics coach Jay Clark and equestrian coach Meghan Boenig—-are you serious? No one wants to talk about these minor sports. They should spend the whole time with the football coaches, talking football. I don’t care about some horse riders or new gymnastics coach–it’s football time in Ga baby!!!

Spurrier should have requested that everyone Google: “This is South Carolina Football”. This will show everyone that the tradition is continuing under Spurrier’s leadership.

saint simons is going down! If Georgia tech is so confident, and GT grads make so much money… How come they are having problems selling football tickets? I just had to buy GT season tickets, and the only game I will be going to is the uga-tech game. Im going to give the rest to my Georgia tech interns. They work hard… If you got a match problem, I guarantee they will solve it! HAHA

saint simon , as well as god and greyhound, really must lead pretty pathetic lives. This must be their only pleasure in life. I think we all poity them and their “kind”. Maybe one day they’ll actually have something positive in their lives they can focus on.
I’m in New Mexico but would love to be there tonight.

Saint Simons is a kid that stays on the computer all day. He is focused – on nothing!!!! He should have a summer job like all good kids, but instead, he likes to play computer games and between each one he checks the latest blogs. Someday he might grow up – but then, maybe not……..

LISTEN EVERBODY!!!! ON Every UGA BLOG YOU SEE SAINT SIMONS. Please DO NOT acknowledge his posts. That’s what he wants and tht’s just like a UGA fan going to the Florida Gator Blog site and posting a winning score when they have absolutely owned us. They would think we are crazy like we think he is. It has been a long time since Ga Tech beat Georgia. This is years of frustration so let him post and dont say anything. Better Yet, If you really want to say something, when he posts 45-42, we all should just post the scores from the last ump-teen years.

GA will beat Tech this year like a rented mule. Their brief fluke win will be all they have after a dawg blowout in Atlanta. Cox might put up 350 yards on that weak secondary.

why on earth do I always see pathetic people posting stupid stuff on this blog. As a tech student I find it hypocritical to always mock the other school in the state acting like you are better than them and then prove that a few individuals obviously have a lack of a spine. Get a life and grow up. Yes I was proud that we won the game but to say that we blew them out is just plain egregious. Just remember all of the good games and be ready for the season. I am as proud as any of our team and our coach, but we must prove to be able to win consistently. Coach Johnson has been here one year. Let’s hope it was more foreboding with a proclivity of success. I want us to succeed but in my mind that all starts with beating va tech, UNC, and miami. If we win those games then I can say that we will be able to compete for championships. UGA has been more consistent and I must say that if you are such a tech fan than please stop trying to incite something on their blog, since we do have our own.

Tech fans have such a inferiority complex it is really sad to see. It would be neat to have a great in-state rival like Bama has Auburn or Texas has A&M but this pathetic fan base that can’t even fill a 50,000 seat stadium and this pathetic program that hasn’t been to a major bowl game since the 1966 Orange Bowl just doesn’t cut it. Win a championship that doesn’t have “co” in front of it or make it to a BCS Bowl Game and maybe we can be proud to have you as a rival. But for now you are South Carolina to us.
