Mack Brown confirms commitment to Florida while on visit

The answer came in two tiny words on a text message.

“Yes sir,” Mack Brown wrote.

His response was to the question, “Did you commit to Florida tonight?”

And indeed he did. That was the word from Brown, generally considered the top running back in the state, just a few minutes before midnight Friday. I got the exact same reply a few minutes earlier from his coach at Martin Luther King High, Corey Jarvis.

The amazing part is I had gotten a totally different indication about 10 hours earlier. Speaking by cell phone just a short while before going onto Florida’s campus to take part in the Gators’ “Friday Night Lights” camp and recruiting activities, I asked Brown if he planned to commit that night or was he going to come back to Atlanta and mull the decision between them and Georgia. As at least a few of you read here, he plainly stated, “Nah, I’m just going to take everything in.”

So whether that was Brown’s plan all along or he was simply overwhelmed by what was surely an impressive reception, I don’t know. Neither he nor his coach called back or responded to additional text messages after those initial confirmations. I assume they were probably celebrating, and who could blame them? It was a great day for Brown and his family.

Here’s what we do know. The defending national champion Gators, who have watched as Georgia came in and plucked away one blue chipper after another out of their fair state, gave the Bulldogs a taste of their own medicine. In Brown Florida got the running back Georgia most coveted for this year’s class.

Now let the conspiracy theories begin. Brown missed last weekend’s “Dawg Night” in Athens because he said his father couldn’t get off work to attend. Dad was able to make it down to Gainesville Friday night, however. Think the Gators were the plan all along?

A number one back never shy’s away from competition, and it’s obvious the competition at UGA is more than he can handle. Go to UF, and learn how to block for your QB as he throws 35 times a game. Just remember Timmy will be gone. Sissssssssy.

I love all of the people who sing Spurrier’s praises, considering he has been winning the majority of his games at Florida with Ron Zook’s recruits. Yeah, he got Tebow…but without the rest of Zook’s players, he wouldn’t have done as well.

Granted, he has been pulling in some Top 10 Classes. As you Gators fans keep telling us though, it doesn’t matter till they win with them.

Finally, to all of those “smart” gator fans (that for some reason, LOVE reading and keeping up with the DAWGS)…yes, you have won 18-20 games against us. What does that say about your great university and its team when that still gets you no where close to the overall series record?

ALtoUGA……FYI….Starters on last year’s team that were recruited by Meyer. Tebow, Demps, Harvin, Cooper, Thompson, Hernandez, Johnson, the Pouncey twins just on offense (Tartt and Murphy were Zook recruits only). On defense: Dunlap, Cunnningham, Sanders, Marsh, Spikes, Hicks, A.J. Jones, Harden, Jenkins, Brown, and Wright (all Meyer recruits). Both kickers were recruited by Meyer. That is 22 out of 24 starters that were recruited by Meyer on last year’s NC team. I guess there goes that theory that Meyer can’t recruit or coach. You got to get over Zook my man. FYI…Zook did just fine against your Dogs, too.

Also…AltoUGA…Meyer two years earlier did take Zook’s recruits (who he could not win with) and also won a national championship with them…and they didn’t even fit Meyer’s offense. He made it work anyway. That is how great a coach Meyer is…and we already know what a great recruiter he is.

Victor Hampton was at FNL and nothing going on about him being kicked off his high school team. Must be a false story being published by a Gator hater somewhere.

Good luck, Mack. You’re going to get hit extra hard the last weekend in October. Wish you had’t lied about your commitment to Chad. But whatever the case, you will probably win two and lose two to UGA.

Big mistake by brown–when tebow leaves, their offense will drop big time. Brantley’s good but not an all SEC type. Next year, Georgia will own Florida, with all the talent Richt is bringing in. Also, the “45-42′ was a fluke—Ga will beat tech this year like a rented mule.

Oop’s look like the law has made an opening for him last night. :)

HOOVER, Ala. — Another day, another Florida player arrested.

Linebacker Dustin Doe has been suspended from the team after being arrested yet again for driving on a suspended license. He’s been stopped multiple times for driving with a suspended license, according to police records.

Florida coach Urban Meyer said Doe wouldn’t be with the Gators when they start preseason practice. He started 12 games last season.

Doe is at least the 25th player arrested since Meyer became the Gators’ coach.

Good luck Mack, I hope this type of occurrence is not part of your future, Gators look funny in stripes though it is becoming more common.

Hey DAWG MAX and all other UGAY fans. UGAY has been getting top recruiting classes as long as Richt has been there and they haven’t won a National Championship. They beat FLA about one every 10 years. Things won’t change for Georgia when Tebow leaves. Richt is a Good Coach but Meyer is a Great Coach. Hey Big Al, you may want to check to records to see how many UGAY players have been arrested since Richt has been at GA. It has been just as many if not more than FLA.

As a Gator he MAY get a chance to play in the sec championship and if the GATORS win that MAY have a chance to help the Gators play for yet ANOTHER BCS title. He probably would not get that chance as a freshman at Georgia. Can’t blame the young man for wanting to win big as fast as possible. I also feel that the Gators will be pretty good even after Tim Tebow graduates. As a GATOR grad and fan living in ATL I am enjoying these times as I have endured alot of verbal abuse from Bulldog faithful for over twenty five years. As a Gator fan I try not gloat however These have been GREAT TIMES TO BE A GATOR!!!

Some of y’all have to get a life. If the young man wants to play at UF, so be it. I hope he has tremendous success EXCEPT every year in Jax. How many guys followed Herschel to Athens as “THE NEXT” and were never heard from again? Recruiting is such an inexact science – wish the kid well and focus on the successes of the Dawgs. Calling him a “thug” is beyond the pale.

DirtyDawg

Not to be redundant (I thought I had posted something about this earlier, but I can’t find it), but basically, the young man has made his choice for whatever reason he thinks it’ll pay off for him. Maybe he thinks that the chance to play for a NC is better there…maybe he thinks that his future as a pro-football running back (although historically, that doesn’t wash) and local hero (maybe he expects to make his future in Central Florida.) would be better if he played in Gainesville than in Athens (an hour and half from home in the hub city of the South)..maybe any number of reasons and I respect them.

At the same time, it’s our job to try and demonstrate to him over the next few years – ever how long he stays there – that he’s made the wrong choice. Shoot, a couple of Georgia ‘beat-downs’ on ‘em and even Urban might re-think his choice of comments about never leaving the Gators. Why not? We’ve done it before and we’ll do it again. Nothing is ‘written’.

Dawgmax, no, Brantley is not the all-SEC type, he is the Heisman Trophy winner type. Don’t believe me, just wait and see. The dude is a special QB. He can do it all. Very athletic and a great throwing arm. Unlike Stafford, he is also a leader and a winner. He would be the second best QB in the SEC right now if he wasn’t on the Gators roster. He is just waiting his turn, and the new QB coach at Florida (who coached some fairly good QB’s at Michigan, thinks this kid is going to be special when he is leading the Gators (he is also one of the main reasons your freshman QB from Tampa is in Athens). So believe what you want, GatorNation knows about Brantley, and you soon will. He will even make an impact this year on a series or two each game.

Has UGA slipped so far that the only way the can beat UF is if Tebow and Meyer leave and they come down to your level. Sounds like none of you think you can reach UF’s level. Meyer can outcoach Richt in his sleep.
