Dogs picked 2nd in East; Gators unanimous No. 1

Hoover, Ala. – Florida is the unanimous pick to win the SEC East and an almost unanimous pick to win the SEC Championship Game, according to a vote by media members who cover the league.

In the vote, announced this morning at SEC Football Media Days,  Florida got all 64 votes to win the East  and 63 of 64 votes to win the title game.

Georgia was predicted to finish second in the East,  with South Carolina third, Tennessee fourth, Vanderbilt fifth and Kentucky sixth.

Alabama was picked by the media to win the Western Division, followed, in order, by LSU, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Auburn and Mississippi State.  Alabama got 33 votes to win the West, while LSU and Ole Miss split the others.

The one vote that did not go to Florida to win the SEC championship went to Ole Miss.

Also today, the media’s preseason All-SEC team was announced.

Receiver A.J. Green was the only Georgia player named to the first team, while offensive linemen Clint Boling and Trinton Sturdivant,  linebacker Rennie Curran and defensive tackle Geno Atkins made the second team.

Defending SEC and national champion Florida led  the league with eight players on the first team and four more on the second. Alabama had the second most representatives, with six players on the first team and two more on the second.

Feel free to disagree (or agree) with the media’s picks below. . . .

I talked to CMR last night (he came to our Bulldog Club dinner straight from media days) and he believes our secondary will be the biggest surprise of 09. He mentioned Boykin and Pugh specifically. The coaches are apparently fully prepared to go against the 4 WR sets we will see from many teams. Now about that triple option….

Go Dawgs.

Atkins and Owens will be ready for that triple option. It all starts with the big guys up front with any running attack.

Tenn. in 4th? I am picking them for 6th in the East.

63 out of 64 Florida fans voted that jorts and really loud clothes are cool. I can’t believe it is such big news that someone didn’t pick Tebow to be first team. First of all it is obvious that the culprit wears a visor, but you would think that someone had committed a felony the way they talk about it. I think he is a phenominal football player and should have been picked number one, but Florida fans have an unhealthy obsession with this kid. He doesn’t walk on water… he just does unlicensed life-changing surgeries on third world children.

Everyone is gonna be S-H-O-C-K-E-D when Tenn beats UF in the Swamp in game 3.

UGA will finish 3rd in SEC-East, behind Tenn.
That, and losses to OKST, Ark, Tenn, FL , and GT. Thats right 7-5.

No team one in the SEC has ever faced Monte Kiffin’s SUPER BOWL WINNING TAMPA-2 DEFENSE. No one.

UGA is second by default, LSU overrated and Lame Kitty was the one vote that UF didn’t get to win the title. He got confused with hoops and voted UK

Pretty odd the Dawgs only got one player on the first team. I figured Rennie woulda made it, perhaps one of our DT’s.

T3, you are a complete idiot and total dreamer. 7-5, UT will be lucky to have that record after this season is over. Face it, UT is bottom-of-the-barrel.

Who is the miscreant that did not vote for Florida to win the SEC? I demand a full investigation into this misconduct at once!!! They will not get away with this. Under no circumstances should this sort of thing be tolerated. I am outraged!!!!

Tech fan here. Florida being #1 & UGA #2 in the pre-season picks is about as unsuprising as it gets. Georgia will be good this year, without a doubt, but Florida is loaded and has a softer schedule. See you on the Flats in November…

blackberry – did you see the first half? we were prepared fine…the problem was we thought the game was over before the 3rd quarter started. add in a fumble on the 10, non-taclking….and you get the worst 15 miutes of football the whole season.

You have to love the classy UT fans, only they could be so happy with such mediocrity. UT has not won the SEC Championship once this entire decade, and it is almost over. Georgia and Florida cannot possibly decline fast enough for UT to have a shot before the decade lapses.

UT fans, how are the “Fire Lane Kiffin” website coming along?

Being a hanger-onner in another team’s blogsite only adds to the class of UT fans.

I bleed Red & Black, but have to say that I don’t think UT will be as bad as everyone thinks. They will surprise a couple teams. I just hope that it’s not UGA. Please the people, I use that term loosely, that have to act and make juevenile comments on this blog and the Tech blog just go away. I wish they would start a blog to all the losers(yes, from both sides) can go on there and have at it.

Let’s keep to the topic at hand on this blog. That being said, No surprise about UF being tops on the list. If they stay injury free they will be hard to knock off. Then again, that’s why you play the games. Can’t wait to get it all started on Sept 3rd!

SEC East will be the mediocre one this year. UF will rule – I hate even typing it – UGA will be better than average, and everyone else is fighting to either avoid the bottom or get a bowl bid, depending on your POV. I don’t know enough about the western teams, but it’ll be competitive between Bama, Ole Miss and LSU. Comes down to schedule favorability. Fellow Vol fans, be content if we are .500 and hope for better next year.

Georgia has the talent to win it all. The question is if Richt has figured out a way to keep his team “up” for all the games and doesn’t end up with 3 of the worst halves of football the team has had in a long time. GT – 33-14, Florida 35-7, Alabama 31-0.

UGA will be fine, and UF will be very good. UT has something to build on and they will. Bama is Bama and will be scary good very soon. This is the SEC and teams beat each other up week in and week out. Smack is Smack and it is fun talking it, but we could go back and forth on who did what and who has what but the fact is that the SEC has the best athletes hands down top to bottom on every roster. All the other conferences (except big 10) can beat an SEC team on any given day, but I say to you, come play in the SEC all year and see where you stand. GT fans, we know Tech used to play in the SEC so save those comments please. September 5th can’t come any sooner and heres to a great year. GO DAWGS!!!!!!

UGA sits about where I think they should be – doesn’t mean they will be right once the season begins and injuries and bad luck insues. Something unlucky and significant will happen to UF this year. Tenn needs to be down near the bottom where they are, what with no proven QB – there D will be tough, but even Derrick Brooks said that Monte Kiffen’s defense is too complicated to be absorbed in less than 3 years, about the time it will take them to graduate or move on. I pick Ole Miss out of the west.

I’d hate to be South Carolina this year when they play little old Florida. Mr. Tim will probably have the best game of his entire college career.

SEC should be interesting this year but all you mut fans out there forget the SEC championship, never gonna happen unless GA figures out a way to play defense for a whole game.

Besides BUZZ is just waiting to pop your bubble again this year.

Wow. So much yelling and screaming 45 days before the season starts! If recent years have told us, NO one can call themselves an expert. Yes, UF is good. Yes, they’ll win the east. But Joe Cox’ arm is underrated. He’ll be a fine game manager and get the ‘Dawgs 10 wins. They will not lose to Jackass Petrino’s pigs. Their losses will be UF and South Cackalack. Mark it down.

Several points:

1. Spurrier should NOT have to make public his vote. (or anyone else)

2. Coaches make enough damn money that they should not be relegating responsibilities that have a large public impact to anyone.

3. Even though he took the blame, Spurrier once again threw someone else under the bus. He should have been the one filling out the ballot.

4. The whole ballot is a farce, media crap, etc. This episode should expose it for what it is.

5. Changing votes when it reaches the public is also crap.

1. Rennie Curran should have been 1st team & will be at the end of the season.
2. Was it really necessary for the Ol’ Ball Coach to say he was sorry for his vote? What the heck is the BIG deal??
3. With all the Gators running into trouble with the law during the offseason, it kinda reminded me of my Dawgs last year. The Gators may face the same fate UGA did last year.
4. UGA will win the national championship THIS year! GO DAWGS!!!!
