After high school, Carter enrolled at Georgia Southwestern College, in Americus. He would later apply to the US Naval Academy and, after taking additional mathematics courses at Georgia Tech, he was admitted in 1943. Carter performed well at the academy, and graduated 59th out of 820 midshipmen. Match classes doesn’t count.

No, I don’t have a jet but my uncle sold his when he sold The Intercept Group that created the technology to transer money/ transactions from stand alone ATMs to the correct bank in quick time. It was nice to fly to VTs airport right behind Lane Stadium for the game and to Notre Dames field outside their stadium too. Thanks for being an @$$HOLE when you don’t know. TO Saint Simons, Pi$$ on a Dawg, Ramble On, et al, It is apparent that they may have not had a class in logic, english(ability to read an article and derive the meaning) or any other every day basic life skill. The article says nothing about GT number one so why would you post. Number two it does not infer anything related to the type of classes the athletes took. As posted earlier, if you are indeed a fan of GT you should be embarrassed about the performance of your BB program and others that were behind UGA in all sports. Hiding behind the engineering major thing is BS, you know it as well as we do that the majority of tech athletes in football and basketball are not engineering majors. If you think guys like Stephon Marbury, etc. were stellar students then you are the joke.

To all yellow jacket bloggers – the content of most of your posts indicates one of two things:
1) You are not tech graduates because you sound somewhat ignorant, or
2) You spent too much time on “calculus” or “additional mathematics courses” when you should have been taking remedial English.

To “The Grinch and St. Simons”. Just finished reading your blogs and here is my take. My family are all Tech grads and myself graduated from there in 97. I think finshed my MBA at UGA in 01. I think both schools are fine institutions with two different cultures. Yes Tech and UGA get some dumb players, but this is a article about excelling in GPA’s. Both schools have had success in sports and academics and I’m happy for the them. You two need to get lives, jobs, and out of your parents house and do something with your lives. Then we don’t have to read your BS on here. Take care, Chris When did you two finish at UGA and Tech?

Gee, I’m flattered you’re so interested in me. Let’s see, Reagan was in office when I graduated from UGA. Great President. Oh yeah, some guy named Herschel played football during that time as well.
Okay, here’s my take:
* Both UGA and GT are fine institutions, hands down.
* Can people be successful graduating from either college? Yes, but it’s the person who will define the level of success, not the name on the sheepskin.
* Is the curriculum a little more rigorous for the normal engineering student over a liberal arts major. Yes.
* Does georgia AND tech get an occasional “academic underachiever”? Yes.
This list could go on and on.
But here’s the rub – a very vocal portion of the yellow jacket nation continue to thump their chests about how they have “tough” academic standards, and their athletes are “smart” compared to those at georgia. In fact, they claim they cannot be competitive on the athletic field because they have true “student-athletes”. When they occasionally win a big game, like once every 8 years, many in their fan base brag about how their “engineers” ran over our jocks. Engineers playing sports at Tech?? BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!! It’s absolutely hilarious how they fail to acknowledge the truth. Even after Reggie Ball, Stephon Marbury, et al, they continue to spread the urban legend about their “tough” academics. So, as long as a number of those kool-aid drinkers are loudly chanting their academic mantra, there will at least be ONE vocal person on the UGA side to call BS on them. It really ticks them off when their hand is called. It also ticks them off when I go BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
By the way, I’m riding down to the gulf for the week and had my laptop handy to entertain me. That being said, you won’t hear much from me for about a week. I plan to thoroughly enjoy my time on the beach.
Too bad I’m not Pi$$onaDAWG or I could fly my private jet down to my private beach. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

This just in, both UGA and GT are both good schools but have totally different academic cores. Also, both cater to athletes who get special treatment, extra tutors, etc. Comparing the two is like apples and oranges since tech is an engineering school and UGA will provide most of the Lawyers, Doctors, Pharmacist, etc. The who point of the article is to provide information on the UGA athletic GPA’s. Any school who shows improvement in Athletic GPA’s should be commended in this environment and UGA has shown improvement in APR and now it looks like the GPA’s are rising. Tech fans who have to bash our UGA academic improvement are jealous haters and have double standards when your BB program is a joke and you lost 2 scholarhsips to boot.

Hey AltDeuggie: I’ve read your retort about “i’ll give you credit” and “takes a lot of self-confidence” two or three times now. How about asking your wife to come up with something new for you.
And BTW, anyone who thinks today’s UGA football athletes (or any other SEC OR ACC football team) can post a legitimate 2.8+ GPA, in legitimate college type courses, without having someone taking their tests or otherwise cheating, is delusional. If they’re getting that kind of grade, something ain’t smelling right.

I am a recent grad from UGA, and can attest to players (even some of the star athletes) attending class, taking their own exams, and participating in and contributing to group projects in both business and communication classes. I was in classes and assigned to groups with several marquee football players, as well as a few golfers and tennis players – and most of the time they worked harder than some of the non-athlete groups.
Congrats to all the hard working STUDENT-athletes!
