2010-11 football schedules less taxing than this year’s?

Athens – Aside from its eight SEC games and annual game vs. Georgia Tech, Georgia will play two opponents from BCS leagues this year – the Sept. 5 opener at Oklahoma State and the Sept. 26 home game vs. Arizona State.

That’s one more BCS-league opponent than Georgia typically plans to schedule, athletics director Damon Evans says.

“I’ll say this: We’ve got a very, very tough schedule this coming year,” Evans said. “Typically, what we would like to do [in addition to the SEC and Tech games] with a 12-game schedule is add another school from a BCS conference we can have a home-and-home with, then play maybe a I-AA and a mid-major at home.

“This year, we have doubled up with two BCS institutions [on top of the SEC and Tech games]. You are not going to typically see that. The thought was to add one.”

So the 2010 and 2011 schedules will be more typical than the 2009 schedule.

In 2010, Georgia plays at the Big 12’s Colorado, but the Bulldogs’ other non-conference opponents (aside from Tech) will be from mid-major or lesser leagues: Louisiana-Lafayette and a team yet to be found, both in Sanford Stadium. (If you missed it, here’s the story on the addition of the Ragin’ Cajuns to the schedule.)

In 2011, Georgia hosts the Big East’s Louisville, but the Dogs’ other non-conference opponents (again aside from Tech) will be New Mexico State and Coastal Carolina, both in Sanford Stadium.

Last year’s game at Arizona State and next year’s at Colorado are examples of Evans’ desire to have the Bulldogs travel the country to play BCS opponents.

“The philosophy still is to play a major school from a BCS conference because I think that gives us exposure from the standpoint of getting us out of the Southeast,” Evans said. “I think it’s good from a national recruiting standpoint and from a branding standpoint, and I have this thing that it’s good to step out and represent the conference in games like that.

“But at the same time I’ve got to be ever mindful that the SEC is just brutal.”

Since Damon is taking credit for scheduling the Oklahoma State game, I wonder if he would explain why the Dogs are only receiving 5,000 tickets? And then, they jacked up the price to $100 each.
Give credit where credit is due.

I see these two GAY FOOLS are stining up this blog with their inanity. All us UGA fans can do is wait til November and they will slink back down to their parent’s basement.

Billdawg:
What are you smoking? Tech doesn’t hinder UGA’s tough OCC schedule. In fact, since that everyone is saying that OSU is overrated, we’ll probably end up being your toughest OCC team. Everyone knows what happened to ASU last year, and I bet the same thing will happen to ASU between the hedges this year. I’m not dissing UGA or anything, and I wasn’t going to say anything on this blog since that it’s a UGA blog, but your comment was just plain stupid. You’re obviously more occupied with dissing Tech than caring about UGA’s tough schedule.

Anyway, good luck on your tough schedule this year and against us, since that we’re “supposed” to win.

Neighbor (PTC Jacket), folks get riled up when GT folks come on here ragging us about our schedule….UGA fans wonder why the GT folks care, but they keep coming.

That said, our schedule is plenty tough enough.

I do not read or post on this blog anymore because of the tiresome, uninteresting posts every single day that add nothing to any rational discussion of anything. This blog absolutely sucks because of a select few posters who really have nothing to do in their life but post about the team they obsess about because their school is completely irrelevant. The sad thing is that UGA fans always respond to them, which is why they continue to post here and why this blog continues to add not one piece appealing discussion. The only thing fascinating about this blog is how the same folks post the same boring posts every single day.

AltamahaDawg: What on earth did I say that made you respond like that? I was commenting that your schedule is tough, but was telling someone that he needs to realize that Tech isn’t in the Chan Gailey era anymore, and may be relevant in football (if last year wasn’t a fluke. We’ll see after this year).

PTC Dawg: Yeah, and I apologize for those GT “fans” that laugh at your schedule, and it’s not like we can say anything anyway (as of last year). This year’s schedule for Tech is more difficult than last year’s was, with 3 SEC opponents and stronger ACC teams (yes, I put strong and ACC in the same sentence). But who knows what this year could turn out to be like. OSU and ASU could be a blow-out for yall, and VT and FSU could be overhyped and overrated. It all matters at the end of the season.

And please, don’t act like UGA fans don’t go on Tech blogs and do the same thing that “m” and the other “Tech fans” do. I see “Huh?” on there frequently.

Finally, UGA gets an out of conf schedule that appears to be a challenge
and they get them on the road. I don’t think its ever happened. UGA has
ducked strong out of conf, on road games since Talmadge was governor.

Realistically I see 8-4. But don’t worry Georgia, there’s always 2010! Tebow will be gone to the NFL leaving Florida without a QB, Meyer will be off to Notre Dame to win another NC, the game will be moved to Atlanta and you won’t have to fly and the weather will be cooler, Martinez will be gone after Richt grows a set and fires him, Murray will be starting and be the next Joe Montana,….Did I leave anything out???

tech fans…before you throw your pitiful jabs at UGA’s schedule which has been called the toughest in the SEC and country by some publications, take a look at your own schedule this season and upcoming…you’ve added Ole Miss, Alabama, and South Carolina (good job), you’ve also added MTSU for the next THREE years, powerhouses South Carolina State and Elon as well…way to step up. Be realistic, every major conference team has “cupcakes” on the schedule including both UGA and GT. The sad story is the programs like UF and others that still won’t travel for OOC opponents or take on any major OOC opponents. And Jacket fans, 45-42 isn’t a slaughter…most tech grads have decent math scores and a 3 point win for the first time in 8 years is a reason to celebrate, but to gloat like you won the game 51-7 is another. See you November 28th.

Well stated get the picture….Tech fans have an unbelievable inferiority complex when it comes to UGA…they show it everytime they post on this blog…..You would think they are the defending National Champs they way they talk…They aren’t even the fifth best team in the ACC ….. they can’t even fill up their crackerbox of a stadium for their own home games.I see them losing at least 5 games this year…can you say hello Humanitarian Bowl….I hear Boise is great in the Winter!See you insects on November 28th for a beat down like you’ve never seen before.

The unfortunate truth is Tech graduates do not predomiately find jobs in the Atlanta area. Where as Atlanta is full of graduates of UGA. That said, Tech will have trouble filling their stadium unless they consistently play at a high level in their conference. Coach PJ, insert pajama reference here, has given them a little more swagger in their step. If he can continue to put out a good product on the field, we will see less advertising of ticket packages on the Bulldawg pages.

Oh and one of my best friends did not go to Tech but makes his living as an Engineer. He wears Tech hats and shirts. So there are Tech fans who did not attend as well as there are Dawg fans.

It’s funny how you say our schedule is weak when ya’ll schedule Duke and Virginia. Oh, wait. They play in the ACC. Well, good thing you get to avoid Maryland and NC State this year. WHEW!!! But really, way to pick up the SEC’s two powerhouses in Vandy AND Mississippi State. AND you have to play them on the road?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? How will you handle Jacksonville State with that schedule?
31-17, 15-12, 14-7, 19-13, 34-17, 51-7, and 31-7… I mean really?
