The search seems to be going well, don't you think? What are these other schools thinking by just going out and hiring the coaches they want, instead of waiting around keeping everybody in suspense? They must not know what they're doing.

I said this a couple of days ago and it's coming to a head - UGA is going to lose out big because it didn't consider Anthony Grant for its head basketball coaching position. They're taking a HUGE gamble by waiting to see what's going to happen w/ coaches, especially since now Mike Anderson has decided to stay at Missouri. So now who do you go after? I like the idea of Sean Miller, but believe it when I say that Xavier will do what it needs to do in order to retain him. Xavier is a really good basketball school that is committed to its program. They have a good young coach, and no college president or AD is gonna wait for someone to come along to pluck him away. If he doesn't have a lucrative deal in place, he will as soon as interest in him ramps up.

I'm not saying that UGA CAN'T get its man, but there's possibly no way that a winning head coach is going to leave what they have to go to a program that has 'rebuild' attached to it. Mike Anderson has already signed a 7 year deal to remain at Mizzou, Calipari leaves Memphis (a program he had to rebuild once his NBA coaching stint went south) for Kentucky (basically one of college basketball's meccas - who wouldn't leave Memphis for that?). I understand the sense of urgency that's attached to the situation, but in a situation like this you have to do your due dilligence and not including Grant in the discussion was a huge error in judgment.

If you CAN get Capel (which I don't think will happen because he's got a great situation at Oklahoma) then that'd be a coup of monumental proportions. He's a good coach and indirectly responsible for Anthony Grant's success at VCU (which turned into a great opportunity for him at Alabama). He was the reason VCU's program turned around like it did and he's also the reason VCU's been successful the last few seasons under Grant (Grant was winning w/ kids that Capel recruited).

At this point I don't really know who would be a good head coach that could come in to Georgia and turn it around. I LOVE the idea of Sam Mitchell, who has ties to the state. I realize that he may not have college coaching experience, but he has coached on the NBA level and, I think, would be an interesting candidate for the job. He would DEFINITELY be able to recruit kids in the state, an issue that seems to be a growing problem for Georgia in recent years. I also like the idea of Sean Miller and I temper that sentiment by stating (again) that I don't think Xavier will let him go; I think they'll lock him in to a lucrative long-term deal. I know there are always options, and I realize that Damon Evans is trying to put his stamp on the basketball program (this being his first BIG hire) by going after a top quality coach, but dragging this thing on while other programs get their guy is not looking really good right now. I know people should exercise patience, but TOO much patience could come back to bite them in the rear.

If Evans does not sign Capel away from Oklahoma, then he has completely blown the coaching search. Grant gone, Anderson Gone. Capel had better happen or Damon will lose credibility. He has got a lot of work ahead of him if he wants Capel. Capels agent should recognize he sits in the driver seat. To get Capel UGA will have to pay as much as UK did to get Calipari. Damon is on the hook....he should have jumped at gotten Grant. Alll Capel as to say is "not enough....Calipari.....if your committed get off the walet, prove it."

Hey, I'm not a basketball fan but it would be nice to have a competitive team. They say football schools seldom field a good hoops team, " Gators, Sooners, Vols, Longhorns,etc... ". Wow, now Damon & Mike pay a search firm to BS around while the Tide, MU and UK take care of business. Here we go again, every 5-6 years we get 2nd tier coaching.

"Pete, you’re ignorant. UGA does support basketball when it’s decent or better, i.e. the 17 years Hugh Durham worked there."

I believe I said Georgia won't get continued support for its basketball team. You proved my point by saying the team is only supported when it's "decent or better." Thank you for helping my argument, and I suggest you look up the definition of ignorant.

Black Dawg that was the most ignorant comment posted in the last 3 days. Bobby Knight will never coach at UGA as long as Adams is the president because him and Myles Brand are good friends and Miles Brand is the former president of IU that fired Knight. I wish folks would read then make comments. BTW, Damon Evans started his athletic administration career at Mizzou, so he is familiar with that institution. I hope we get Anderson if not I hope we get someone who teaches an exciting style.
