I agree with Thomas Brown. I won't blame everyone one of those losses on Stafford( the Georgia Tech and Alabama losses are solely on the defense), but he certainly wasn't worth the hype. Don't get me wrong, Stafford has more athletic ability in his pinky than I do in my entire body. But something is missing with him, I don't know. Green and Shockley were better in my opinion but then again they benefited from having senior offensive lines and great players on defense during their time at UGA. It's really a shame that the recruits the last few years really haven't panned out. I also think Richt got a little soft with this team last year allowing Stafford and Knowshon to coast a little too much on their athletic abilities. I also think Stafford could benefit from a good offensive coordinator because Bobo is awful. I never got the sense that Stafford felt comfortable with the offense, like Green and Shockley did when Richt was calling the plays. With that being said, if Stafford is willing to accept the perks that go along with being a stud QB for UGA, then he has the accept the responsibility when things go wrong. Personally I think it would be better if he weren't the 1# QB overall. I could really see him landing in Chicago. The Bears fans would be tough on him, but they've had to endure Grossman and Orton for so long, they'll happly take Stafford, especially with that killer D they have.

Oh lord....

Thomas Brown, you have a real way with words. By the way, you can write something once on here in order for it to be read. Pease no more

"He had a passer rating of 129

He turned the ball over too many times

He had a bad passer rating."

Please, dude, learn the sport if you are going to talk smack about someone. You know what? I think I even agree with you that UGA might be better now that he's not quaterback, but your justification and senseless tirade is just dumb.

Fact is, Stafford statistically got better every year. He has had different situations to work with, as far as the team is concerned. This year's QB will face a different scenario as well. Stafford didn't lose 1/10 of as many games as he won for us. So continue to sit on your high-horse and talk bad about him, but I hope he goes on to be one of the most prolific QBs in the NFL, because it's good for UGA.

"In the League, they will not put up with 51 touchdown passes and 51 fumbles and interceptions."

I don't know T-Bag...it seems like the Green Bay Packers 'put up' with a large number of INT's by soon to be Hall of Fame Quarterback named Brett Favre.

If I recall correctly he won a Superbowl and a couple of League MVP awards while throwing more interceptions than anyone in history.

I am not comparing Stafford to Favre...I merely try to point out that interceptions alone may not be a good indication of the quality of a quarterback. I also hope to point out that you should be in no position (as evidenced by your inane rants) to comment on what any NFL team will put up with. Personally, I don't think you are in any position to post on this blog...although idiots are welcome.

Let it go brother--you'll live longer.

Chip: Math much? Stafford's ranking at 47 is exactly twice as good as Tebow's 84th? I'll give you a break and assume you mistyped "94th". And maybe 47th is really just half as bad instead of twice as good.

38 on the Wonderlic test. Wonderful. That's a great score. It has tripped up many would-be NFL high draft picks.

Of course, Quarterbacks in this NFL draft up-coming now, are in short supply. Comparing him to Mark Sanchez, is not much of a comparison. He came in here with much hype about being the 2nd best QB in the nation, rifle for an arm, would bring UGA Sugar Bowl berths based upon SEC Championships, and would bring us great wins and no poor losses.

He leaves having accomplished in fact, none of that. He is a great talent. He looks like John Elway and throws with the best of the Quarterbacks ever seen.

He is not much a Leader on the field or off. He writes off forcing the ball in there. And, he has done a lot of that here. He does have a problem holding onto the football, as evidenced by 18 fumbles on 142 carries here, which he averaged 1 and a third yards a carry on here. 6 Touchdowns rushing. Of course, he did call his own number 4 times a game running the football. Take the Georgia Tech loss for example, Stafford had 4 rushes. He had 4 rushes every game, for 39 games 142 in total for 3 years. (He handed the ball off to Knowshon Moreno only 17 times in the Tech Loss.)

Certainly, 33 Interceptions in 39 games here, is a clear problem of forcing the ball in there. And, for all the 33 Interceptions in 39 games plus 18 fumbles in 39 games, you have 51 adding them both together - the exact number of passing touchdowns, 51.

129 Quarterback Rating for his entire UGA career.

I never knew which QB was going to show up. And, for how long in any game.

He is a wonderful talent, with lots of upside. He just needs to value the football. In the League, they will not put up with 51 touchdown passes and 51 fumbles and interceptions.

DJ Shockley and David Greene were much better for us, than he was.

I figure that Joe Cox will be too.

I figure that Matthew Stafford will end up the least effective Quarterback that Coach Richt has had.

If he goes on and has an NFL career that is a top one after say 4 years or so, that would be great for him and us. I hope that he does. But, if he does, it will be something there he does that he did not do here.

He needs to go to an NFL team that doesn't have a running game.

He squandered Knowshon Moreno here.

2 worst seasons in the Coach Richt 8-Year Era ?

Matthew Stafford's first year and his last year here. In between those 2 years, UGA finished Number 2 in the Final AP Poll in 2007; and, yet, Matthew Stafford was the Number 83 NCAA Official Passing Offense in 2007.

At some point, the media will have to get off the hype about Matthew Stafford and measure him on what he accomplishes.

We certainly suffered 2 of his 3 years here, and frankly did not deserve to be ranked in the Final AP Poll either of his first or last season here.

That's hard to take for me, personally. We were going to be an Elite Football Program. Not Top 10 program, but better than that : Elite Football Program.

Now, when he leaves we find ourselves not considered the Elite Football Program we were certainly on the cusp of being when he got here.

He is an enigma, for his years here.

For 3 years now, we have been told by the media that he is the pro-typical NFL Quarterback.

I would have liked to not have Lost to Georgia Tech and Alabama this season; both of which I consider huge Losses that we should not have Lost. I would have liked to not be down 49-3 when he was finally yanked. That was disappointing. Almost as disappointing as 29 unanswered to Tech and 31 to nothing at half by a very beatable Alabama squad. I would have liked to not have Lost to South Carolina last year, who went on to Lose 6 games but not against us. Tennessee Lost 4 games last year, but not against us; against us, the vols slaughtered us 35-14. Stafford was no where to be found in either of those puzzling Losses that kept us from even an SEC East Championship once again. More Losses which I consider huge Losses that we should not have Lost. And, had we not replaced him with Joe Cox against Colorado, we Lose that game too; and Colorado Lost 6 games that year as well. Vanderbilt and Kentucky Losses that year as well, were just hard to take again with Matthew Stafford accomplishing nothing. Huge Losses we should not have Lost.

Matthew Stafford is a big-time talent. He was not in the same ballpark as an effective team leader and winning quarterback as every other Coach Richt Quarterback, David Greene and DJ Shockley.

If the media tells us that a guy is that great a quarterback, that he is the Number 1 Draft Pick Overall in the First Round, I expect to find not Inexplicable Losses where he was a No Show, but All America and Conference Championships, or at the very least All-SEC.

I'd rather Joe Cox.

It's like Caleb King. We are told he is so great too. Not for my money.

I'd rather see us give Carlton Thomas a chance.

Bottom Line is that I like to Win Our Games. I certainly hope that Joe Cox does a better job of Being a Team Leader and not Losing All these games that stick in my craw - all the Losses the Last 3 Years.

It's not been any fun Losing to Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Florida in a big blow-out game. These inexplicable Losses the Last 3 Years and then we are opening up the newspaper to read that Matthew Stafford is the Number 1 Pick in the First Round of the NFL. Matthew Stafford is NOT the Number 1 Draft Pick in the First Round. He is NOT.

He's gone and we have Joe Cox. I'd like to put these years behind us and get back to Valuing the Football at the Team Leadership Position, Quarterback, and Winning the games we are supposed to Win, instead.

I can even take a Loss to Florida.

But, not 49-3.

I think our backfield could be better than last year. We have 3 capable TBs to depend on.. Caleb King, Richard Samuel and Carlton Thomas. Joe Cox/Logan Gray will work out just fine, b/c I have trust in Searels and his linemen.

Jeff Owen will anchor the front line.. Kiante should provide big plays from DE we lacked last season. Roderick must stay healthy. Justin Houston needs to take his game to another level. Need more big contributions from Dobbs, Neland Ball, Jeremy Longo, Cornleus Washington...
