Did ACORN work in Afghanistan?

By Jim Wooten

Thinking Right’s weekend free-for-all. Pick a topic:

● No, it’s true that President Obama is not “ignoring calls for tort reform and changes in medical malpractice laws.” Trial lawyers are a key constituency of the Democratic Party, which largely explains why party leaders have chosen to ignore this potential cost savings.

Here, though, backed into a corner, the president proposes “demonstration projects.” Long, slow test runs on tort reform. Quick, radical remake for one-sixth of the nation’s economy.

● Anybody seen ACORN? The organization may be off to Afghanistan, where the main headline reports “Karzai’s vote lead clouded.” A smaller headline explains: “Fraud suspected in more than a quarter of all Afghan votes.”

● These are tough times for the left-leaning ACORN. Two independent investigators with hidden cameras, posing as a pimp and a prostitute, caught ACORN staffers giving advice on how to get housing help while skirting the law. The investigators pretended to have a scheme to bring underage girls from El Salvador for prostitution.

This is a group that helped elect Barack Obama, is widely accused of voter-registration fraud, and would have grown richer and more powerful off public money in this administration. It would have had a prominent role in the 2010 census before exposes caused the feds to sever the relationship.

● Maybe it’s just for a single day, but rejoice that the Standard Language of the South is back! This was the ajc.com headline over a story about an advocacy group’s push to impose a tax of one-cent per ounce on what the wire service reporter referred to as “sodas and other sweetened beverages”: “Group pushes tax on soft drinks.” Yes!

To transplants, they’re “sodas.” To native Southerners, they’re “soft drinks.” Note to transplants: Mess up traffic, not language.

● In Houston County, the District Attorney is filing charges against parents from other counties who enroll their children in Houston schools. Don’t put me on this jury. The money should follow the child and parents should be able to enroll their children in schools near where they work, near a caregiver or near any other more convenient place.

● Looking for a marriageable date? Hang out in Forsyth County. It ranks sixth nationally in the percentage of 25- to 34-year-olds earning more than $100,000 per year. Or better yet, go to the seat of all wealth in America: Government, Inc. Two suburbs of Washington rank first and second.

● You’re old Atlanta if you remember when the city’s mayoral race was the talk of metro Atlanta and even of Georgia. Now Dunwoody’s suburban neighbor prepares to pick a successor to Mayor Shirley Franklin and the candidates are almost as anonymous as those who vie to run the cities on the perimeter.

● Republicans missed a real opportunity when they came to power under the Gold Dome. More of them should have become the accountability and oversight watchdogs that State Rep. Jill Chambers of DeKalb County is with MARTA.

Before the GOP took possession of programs, they should have spent the hours in research that she has in trying to hold MARTA’s feet to the fire. She questions, for example, why MARTA plans to spend $492,000 over three years on consultants to lobby for more state money.

● An explanatory why-they-run headline: “City council candidate wants incumbent out.”

● The Joe Wilson flap, taken nuclear by former President Jimmy Carter and others on the left, is a reminder that liberals really do believe that they and their policy positions are morally superior. By demonizing opponents as racists, they claim quite sanctimoniously that those who oppose them have no legitimate basis for their arguments.

The race card is the liberals’ Saturday night special – a cheap weapon to pop off into a crowd they don’t like.

What the individuals at ACORN seemed to be doing on tape certainly appears unlawful…but if you are going to blame the entire organization let’s remember that if you want to punish lawbreakers, there are a few Republicans who have been patronizing prostitutes…so I guess that just proves the Republican party should be banned. As for voter fraud, there was NONE by ACORN. There were some voter registration issues…but registration is not voting and the laws in most states require the all registrations be turned in….even if Mickey Mouse registers. ACORN identified problems to state officials when they turned the registrations in but complied with law. Now if you want real voter fraud, try the Republicans who have been convicted of actual voter fraud….including the one who mysteriously died in a plane crash.

But you are right…there are absolutely no protesters (birthers, deathers or gun toting wingnuts) who are racist despite their signs and emails about Obama the Magic Negro, Hitler, monkeys, and worse. Let’s bring back that neutral Confederate flag added in the 1950’s. And the Georgia congressman who received a number of racial threats. Race did not enter into those. Damn those Democrats who are not part of the Moral Majority republicans.

Let’s stop with the denial, tell the racists that they may have a 1st amendment right but we dont have to tolerate their racism and lets actually focus on legitimate basis for arguments based in reality. No death panels or other lies. No “illegal aliens” lies. No fear-mongering. Try real debate of issues.

Jim Wooten ● Anybody seen ACORN? The organization may be off to Afghanistan, where the main headline reports “Karzai’s vote lead clouded.” A smaller headline explains: “Fraud suspected in more than a quarter of all Afghan votes.”

CHRIS SAYS: Jim, the Republican obsession with ACORN and voter fraud hinges on a mental disease. ACORN has had nothing to do with voter fraud and you know it. As you also well know, ACORN was the one that discovered those bogus voter registrations and was required, AS UNDER THE LAW, to turn them in to election officials who alone could make that determination, no matter, how obviously bogus these registrations were. This ACORN mania is simply catering to the lowest IQs in the GOP. But I wouldn’t have thought you were including yourself in that low achieving group.

Here’s a thought: if you Republicans are so concerned about fraud, why aren’t you asking why we went into Iraq in the first place, costing us thousands of American lives and over a trillion dollars? Especially important since every single reason we went into Iraq for turned out to be lie. That money could have bought and paid for a comprehensive US health care system for every single American. I don’t recall any Democrat standing up in Congress during any address by President Bush and calling him a liar each time he mentioned WMDs together with Iraq and 9/11 in one sentence.

That coming from someone who probably wanted to see Sarah Palin in the White House as VP??? The very same people who consider “intellectual” a dirty word? Wondered why there is a correlation between low education standards in the states that consistently vote Republican versus the higher general standards of education in states that vote Democrat? Think about it: TX, GA, MS, TN, AL, SC. Now take a look at where all these states rank in general education, test scores, etc.

Gosh Jim, is lack of voter registration oversight considered “involvement” to the extent an organization would be subject to a fine under the law?

Guess it is. At least in the State of Washington where ACORN was fined $25,000 and ordered to improve its “oversight”, for of all things, the lack of “involvement” for having nothing to do with voter fraud.

Hey Jim, you forgot one – check this out!

Monday June 8th 2009 – Reuters
“OBAMA SPEEDS PROJECTS TO CREATE, SAVE 600,000 JOBS”
Washington, June 8 (reuters)
President Barack Obama said on monday accelerated stimulus spending would create or save 600,000 jobs over the next 100 days…

So let me get this straight, ok?
June 8th of 2009 and you go 100 days… that would take you up to… hmmmmmm… Sept. 16th 2009
What is todays date?
Its been 102 days!

WHERE ARE THOSE 600,000 CREATED JOBS!!!!!!!!!
I’ll tell you where they are – Obama has created a grand total of 6 jobs! Thats right, over 100 days (this summer) Obama has managed to create 6 CZAR jobs…. but wait…. I’m sorry, one got his @ss booted out by Glenn Beck… see Van Jones

WHEN ARE YOU LIBERALS GOING TO WAKE UP!
What are you waiting for and what is it going to take? Back on June 8th the unemployment rate was at 9.4% and as of right now its at 9.7% and going higher! I do not understand the mindset of you liberals. You are so blind and deaf-ear to this President that you are waiting for something good to happen so you can point your finger at us Republicans and say “See I told you so”
You are going to be disappointed because that moment is NEVER going to happen!
Look at what Jim wrote – look at what is happening to ACORN – and look at what I just said (BTW, nobody is reporting this in the news or at the White House)
Obama said he would create 600,000 jobs this summer… didn’t happen…. I wonder what Obama will say tomorrow? I can tell you one thing – its not going to happen!

Okay, let the money follow the child. But it must be the same amount of money as the “natives” pay. So if the average spent in Houston County is $6000, but Fayette rounds up $9,000 per child, the parents have to pay the difference.

Or, even better, let parents carry exactly their school taxes across county lines, and make up the difference to the other county. IF there is room for the kid, and IF the parents provide transportation. So if I pay $2200 in school taxes I can carry that with me to Forsyth, but I have to pony up the other $5500 it costs in school taxes on average in Forsyth. And then, the only school not at capacity is on the other side of the county and is their lowest performing school. Heck, maybe I should just buy/rent in Forsyth!

For a group that preaches personal responsibility and no government help, your stand sure seems duplitious.

There is no morally superior policy position held on this side of the tracks. The race card is introduced only when productive Americans have reservations about servicing the basic needs of the unproductive so-called educated integrationist Negroes etc at the expense of Americans. Just think about it. Where will the unproductive irresponsible so-called educated integrationist Negroes get food, clothing, shelter, employment, education, and healthcare if productive Americans refuse to take on that responsibility?

Negroes have been taught for fifty years the advantages of accusing responsible productive Americans of racism. They’ve learned if you demonize, degrade, dehumanize, and insult productive Americans by speciously charging them with racism, they will automatically be offended much like the unproductive so-called educated integrationist Negroes when called the N word. The coast becomes clear to address the response to being highly offended as if it were actual racism. It’s impossible for anyone to distinguish between the two. And the past fifty years have shown that productive Americans will relent on any position they hold to be near and dear to heart if the charge of racism rears its ugly head.

The unproductive so-called educated integrationist Negroes don’t use the race card against people they dislike. It’s quite the contrary in most instances e.g. if you want to date inviting, pretty, and intelligent American girls, tell them how racist one of her fellow Americans is. And as evidence, accuse another inviting, pretty, and intelligent American girl of dating almost everyone in high school except you know who. And at some point in the conversation, ask her for a date. Her subconscious mind will warn her that she runs the risk of being demonized, charged with racism, if she rejects the invitation. So undoubtedly, her answer will be, “yes we can”.

It is demonizing, degrading, dehumanizing, insulting, and immoral to charge Americans with racism. The word should be relegated to the dustbins of history, just like the N word. And as Negroes are chastised for referring to other Negroes as the N word, white people who enable the unproductive so-called educated integrationist Negroes should be chastised for referring to other white people as racist.

No thinking person can deny that the position I hold is fair and balanced.

You can thank ACORN for making the Oakland City neighborhood of Atlanta a safer neighborhood – one with fewer abandonded homes which were once locations for crime, rape and drug dealing, one where the cops are more willing to patrol because of less criminal activity and more community involvement. I know this because my daughter is an ACORN organizer and helped dozens of honest citizens of Oakland City get organized and start to reclaiom their neighborhood. Anyone who wants to can look at the unparallelled humanitarian accomplishments of ACORN over the last 40 years. ACORN is unfortunately being made to look bad for the sake of political bickering. In reality, no one on this blog knows a damn thing about ACORN and every one of you are aware of it, so stop trashing an organization you have no first hand knowledge about.

It irks me when I hear uninformed closet Klu Kluxers talk about the government taking care of liberals. Well explain how HB, KBR Bechtel etc. can profit off of no bid contracts and that is okay. When I last checked that was taxpayer money that was being pillaged. It’s okay for money grabbing corporations to feed at the public trough but it’s not okay for a mother with children that has fallen on hard times not to expect help from the government? I don’t get it. You right wign Klu Kluxers are against abortion and when the child arrives you are against everything that will help it. Love the fetus but hate the baby.

I’ve posted what Carter actually said below. Notice that he did not call all those who oppose Obama racist. He was talking specifically of the “fringe element of demonstrators” and “people who are guilty of that kind of personal attack against Obama”.

He also said and “overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity” is racist. Notice the word intensely because its important.

That’s the Republican (and Democrat for that matter) mantra. Raise ire and hope nobody actually reads what was said. If you’re not part of the fringe movement, Carter didn’t call you racist. Let’s move on.

—————————————

“When a radical fringe element of demonstrators and others begin to attack the president of the United States as an animal or as a reincarnation of Adolf Hitler or when they wave signs in the air that said we should have buried Obama with Kennedy, those kinds of things are beyond the bounds,” the Democrat who served from 1977-1981 told students at Emory University.

“I think people who are guilty of that kind of personal attack against Obama have been influenced to a major degree by a belief that he should not be president because he happens to be African American.”

“It’s a racist attitude, and my hope is and my expectation is that in the future both Democratic leaders and Republican leaders will take the initiative in condemning that kind of unprecedented attack on the president of the United States,” Carter said.

“I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he’s African-American,” Carter told “NBC Nightly News.”

In another 25 to 30 years, this is going to be a minority-majority country and many folks like you are uncomfortable with that fact.

The inescapable fact is having an intelligent, well-spoken and charismatic President (who happens to be Black) just drives conservatives insane. I personally have come across many folks who find this very unsettling because it rocks their mindset that whites are somehow superior to everyone else. Many pretty much admitted this fact to me. They realized that the country is changing and they are not comfortable with this change.

Have any of the tort reform measures passed in states like Texas and Georgia done anything to bring down the cost of healthcare? Lawsuits only represent 2-5% of the total cost of health care in this country.

Jason-

I am a conservative republican, I agree the last time we had control republicans were very poor stewards and ran up a huge debt. Not as big a debt as democrats wanted, but way to large. The debt republicans incured is nothing compared to what Obama is doing now. Latest news, Obama wants government contol, not government backing, of student loans.

We need to do two things and it will solve the spending problem and the job loss problem. First a constitutional amendment to blance the budget which Congress must adhere to unless a national emergency is declared by act of Congress with a 3/4 vote of both houses.

Second, we should adopt the Fair Tax. Jobs will pour into America and monies come back from off shore accounts to America and solve our unemployment problem. Remember, money goes where it is treated best. With the Fair Tax, that is here.

Steven Doofusdalus now has an uninformed pal in Jason Davis.

To charge the Republicans with being the BIG spenders is pure nonsense. The Liberal Left Democrats have spent more in the last year than the Republican Congress did in the prior 8 years.

HOUSING MESS – Maxine Watters, Barney Frank and Chuckie Schumer handed us that one by allowing their friends at Freddie and Fannie to cook the books and steal hundreds of millions of dollars. They went after Tyco and Enron for accounting fraud but not Obama’s pals. Why not?

IRAQ – Take a trip through history to the Clinton years and read the comments of most every Democrat with regard to Iraq. WMD threat and a potential threat to the US and our allies is flowing from them at every opportunity. Do you Liberal wackos not realize every comment is now on tape and on the internet? If Bush lied then H Clinton, B Clinton, Schumer, Kennedy, Kerry and all the rest lied.

The national debt is $11,827,966,342,208.43 as of 9/16/09. One of the major reasons the debt is almost $12 trillion is that to many Americans believe things like ACORN are important.

You folks keep spending your time & effort on things like ACORN if you insist. And in 30 years when you are living in a second rate country

Your leader Rush made the statement that he hopes President Obama fails. The flip side of that is that if he succeeds where does that leave you? I sense your panic as you are beginning to see that he is not going to fail so you have to bring up all sorts of “sideshow” issues: birther foolishness, “death panels” garbage, ACORN diversion, Americans are losing their freedom, etc., etc. I have submitted before that your resistance to change would lead to more and more lunatic statements and actions from the far right. It is too bad that the Repubs have staked their fortunes on trying to make sure Obama fails. Problem is as he succeeds and his programs begin to work, and they are you seal your own fate, failure. Did democrats “stake their fortunes” on Bush failing? Should I assume that democrats wanted Bush to do well, it was just his policies they disagreed with?

Very simply, I don’t care if Obama is successful or he fails, I want policies in our country that meet the common sense test. That holds true for any president we have in office. I disagree with Obama’s policies. Does that make me a racist? Pres. Jimmy would say yes it does! Sad times we live in.

Does Afghanistan have an ACORN? Well there is their offshoot COI (Community Organizers International). I’ve heart tell nuts don’t fall far from the tree.

Now I gotta say that white ACORN worker who professed to killing her husband? She was nuttier than an ACORN. I didn’t believe a word she said. Hers are what I call flat out lies. Obama’s are lies by omission.

And in California everything’s a coke. I remember when I first started dating my husband (southern born and southern still) the first time I visited his parents house, his Mom said she needed a powder and a pop from Mr. Perkins’. I was having second thoughts about involving myself further into the family. She was talking about a BC powder and a soft drink from the corner store.

I’ve always felt that to disagree on policy is evidence of respect. Those who jump in to defend President Obama’s race don’t think he can stand up to the heat. They act like a bunch of mother hens defending their chick. I find it strange.

Jimmy Carter needs to find a peanut shell and hibernate there. I used to say he was a good man who was misguided. Now I’m not so sure.

No just because you disagree does not make you a racist, and in fact I was not talking about racism at all. I was addressing the element that just wants this President to fail, period. Regarding Bush, yes, there were those who wanted him to fail, and they were wrong too. I would be interested in what you mean by “common sense” policies? And, has every President always acted in a common sense way? History suggests otherwise, going back to the very first.

Quite frankly, I don’t want to see this president fail because if he does, we all fail, sort of the old notion that while we disagree on content we do ride in the same boat together (at least we used to).

Ah liberals will be liberals and socialists to boot. It’s as simple as disagreeing with Obama’s extreme far left big government slant on life that has many in the political center and on the right voicing opposition against this President who has surrounded himself with some very questionable characters, many of whom seem to share linkage in questionable organizations all on the taxpayer dime that hold some very strange ideas like Marxism, Communism, Eugenics, Euthanasia and Ethnocentrism who perhaps may be forming his very policy and decision making for our country that we want to fail, as rightly all of these things should see a speedy demise, hopefully before the destruction of this nation.

Though while we disagree on content and we do ride in the same boat together retiredds, some of us, in fact likely the majority of us, don’t relish the idea of going down with the content that is sinking our ship. We’d rather throw that content overboard and watch gleefully as it sinks into the abyss.

Common sense polices, ok, a balanced budget. Health care reform, not the federal government running health care. Immediate divestiture of control or an interest in any public company ( cars, banks, etc). The federal government not taking over the student loan program. Not running the census count out of the White House. Allowing the CIA to do their job. Stop the “stimulus” spending now. Recover all TARP funds now. Is that enough?

Of course every president, including Bush, did not act in a common sense way on everything. I suggest no president in the history of our country has tried to change so much so fast, maybe FDR but or than him. I wish he would slow down, take a breath and listen to us. PLEASE folks, no feeding the trolls!

“WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama said Friday that angry criticisms about his health care agenda are driven by an intense debate over the proper role of government — and not by racism.”

Now maybe Obama can talk some sense into his senseless, mindless, left wing libtard voting trash.

This idiotic nanny state leadership in Washington gets more laughable every day. Now we are being told how to sneeze. What’s next from these idiotic mindless libtards, telling us how to properly wipe our asses?

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/09/reporter-sneezes-the-wrong-way-in-front-of-secy-sebelius.html

“WASHINGTON — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said yesterday she is clueless about an amendment to prohibit government funds for embattled ACORN, although it overwhelmingly passed the Senate Monday and the White House is calling for the group to be held accountable. “I don’t even know what they passed,” Pelosi told The Post yesterday. “What did they do? They defunded it?”

And this hollow eyed liberal hippy from San Franfreako is third in line to the presidency? ARE YOU SERIOUS???

“Massachusetts State Republicans are howling mad over yet another tax hike being slipped through the Legislature that would slap an annual $3 state surcharge on municipal licensing fees canine owners pay for their pet pooches. Annual license fees range from $6 a year in Boston for neutered or spayed canines (and $17 for unfixed dogs) to a flat $20 in Plymouth. Angry GOP senators are pushing to name the bill “Toby’s Law,” after Gov. Deval Patrick’s wriggling Labrador puppy.”

They don’t call it “Taxachusetts” for nothing. Stupid neo-Marxist libtards.

“NEW YORK (Reuters) – A fund-raiser for Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and other Democrats who was charged last month with defrauding Citigroup Inc is being sued by HSBC for deceiving it into lending him $100 million.”

Okay, in three….two….one…. “THEY’RE RACISTS FOR REPORTING THIS!” Nanny Pelosi drained the swamp and filled it with sewage, didn’t she?

“WASHINGTON — The House has voted in favor of the biggest overhaul of college aid programs since their creation in the 1960s — a bill to oust private lenders from the student loan business and put the government in charge.”

Just another step towards a totalitarian fascist state, which is libtard dream land. All they need to do now is just rid the US and world of nukes. Oh wait….

The WSJ knows how to spell it out on the Obama Administration and nukes:

“The U.S. decision [to withdraw missile defenses in Poland and the Czech Republic] also undermines the credibility of the U.S. nuclear defense umbrella. The Bush Administration sought to develop a global defense posture in part to reassure allies that they don’t need their own nuclear deterrent, even as rogue regimes seek nuclear arms and the missiles to deliver them. America’s Europe reversal tells other countries that they can’t rely on the U.S. so it’s best to follow the Israeli path and develop their own weapon and defenses. For that matter, this also makes the U.S. East Coast less safe; the ground-based system in Alaska and California covers the East, but barely. The Polish and Czech sites were to provide added protection. The European switcheroo continues Mr. Obama’s trend of courting adversaries while smacking allies. His Administration has sought warmer ties with Iran, Burma, North Korea, Russia and even Venezuela. But it has picked trade fights with Canada and Mexico, sat on trade treaties with Colombia and South Korea, battled Israel over West Bank settlements, ignored Japan in deciding to talk with North Korea, and sanctioned Honduras for its sin of resisting the encroachments of Venezuela’s Hugo Chávez. We’re reminded of the rueful quip, by scholar Bernard Lewis, that the problem with becoming friends with the U.S. is that you never know when it will shoot itself in the foot.”

What a great gloomy day to trash libtardism – before it trashes America.

retired soldier, thanks that’s what I was asking for. Let me answer as best I can:

I have stood for a Constitutional Amendment to balance the federal budget for many decades, not one Senator or Congressman would commit (and that’s Republican or Democrat). A public option as part of the health care reform (either co-ops or a straight public option) is not the government running health care but an option that is offered. By the way some of our GA legislators offered a piece of legislation at the state level to do just that about two years ago. The fact is that no health care reform now means US bankruptcy in 10-15 years. We can wish it weren’t so but the facts of the growth rate of medical costs can’t be sustained for more than that. The government is not in the business of running auto companies. It is in the business of financing them until they turn their own industry around. This was what was done at Chrysler in the 1970’s. Without the auto bail-out the unemployment rate would have shot up to 25%-30% because it would not have just affected the auto companies but all their suppliers as well. You can believe that or not, but those were some of the numbers that were being thrown around in some very quite circles in the industry. The stimulus money is taking hold. Watch the numbers grow over the next six months. The prime issue is not the spending of the stimulus money but will the Federal Reserve be able to reverse its monetizing of the debt early enough to prevent inflation from roaring back. If you are retired you hope so because interest rates would rise and your income tied to interest rates would increase along with rising rates. Some TARP money is already being paid back, with interest by the way – around 8%. I believe, and I could be wrong, that almost all of it will be paid back and the government will earn more money on the payback than was paid out.

If you would sit back and be a little more dispassionate about these issues you might rest a little easier. I would suggest reading some articles and books about the Depression. While our times may be different the financial problems are very similar.

Don’t confuse a non-profit consumer owned, ran and administered mutual healthcare insurance cooperative with a government owned, ran and administered public option. They are not one and the same. In a non-profit consumer owned, ran and administered mutual healthcare insurance cooperative government has a very, very, very, very, limited role to play. Namely one of oversight, enacting laws and with any subsidies going to the individual. Other than that the government is kept out of the picture entirely, as government should be, since a non-profit consumer owned, ran and administered mutual healthcare insurance cooperative will be in direct competition with private sector insurance companies for their customers, like any other privately held corporation. In a capitalists system government should never ever be in any business whatsoever competing against business, which is exactly what the Public Option does. It puts government in business competition against the businesses it governors.

Maybe I’m missing something but my understanding of the Public Option is that it operates like and exchange where one goes to find the best rate. I have not seen anything where the government actually owns the hospitals, has doctors on its payroll, owns the drug companies, or eliminates the insurance companies. But again I have not read all the bills, and I think there are four, in great detail.

In the socialist countries that Obama is being accused of taking us toward, all those entities and players are owned and operated by the government.

On another note governments own and operate the FAA, the ICC, the FCC, but I don’t know of any takeover by the government of the industries that operate within the confines of those jurisdictions.

He says he doesn’t believe it should. The Georgia legislature won’t let the people vote to decide if cities, counties, or regions of the state they live in can vote to tax themselves for transportation needs. I think they are afraid that the majority of Georgians would vote in favor of these things and where does that leave the “low/no tax” and “morals” crowd?

ACORN is a natural for Afghanistan. What that benighted country needs is some open-minded organizers, free of cultural chauvinism and hip to moral relativism, who can advise Hekmat that, hey, it’s OK, as long as your poppy plantation leads to improved working conditions for the farmworkers, maybe with some rudimentary health care built in, and time-off for the children to attend ACORN-run school sessions. Maybe I’m missing something but my understanding of the Public Option is that it operates like and exchange where one goes to find the best rate.

That is a definite misunderstanding and government does own, run and administer the present government entitlement programs. The Public Option will be another government owned entitlement and Government will not shop the rates either. Government, as in Medicaid will establish the rates it will pay. So government is not only in business competition with business for its’ customers it will be writing the business rules as it goes along that says how business shall compete with government and that is something better than total ownership of an entire industry, when you can tell your competition how much money it will lose in order to guarantee your success no matter how badly you perform or fail.

By the way, exactly how are the entitlements of Medicare, Medicaid and Tricare doing these days: At last check, the government owned, ran and administered entitlement programs had TRILLIONS of dollars in liabilities (debt).

If this were about getting the best rates in the private sector by shopping around that would only require one thing to be done: Mandate an end to the prohibitions that prevents the sell of healthcare insurance across state lines. Then anyone could do their own national exchange shopping and choose from 1,300 companies in this country that sells healthcare insurance.

Excerpt from the Washington Post

The favorite proposal of liberals is the public insurance option. If the public plan were open to all Americans and partnered with Medicare, it could “negotiate” deep discounts with health-care providers. The Lewin Group, a health industry consultancy firm, and the Commonwealth Fund, a liberal-leaning health-care advocacy organization, have both estimated that this sort of plan could save the average American 20 to 30 percent on premiums.

September 18, 2009 — Physicians voice their views on a new public insurance option and Medicare expansion in a Perspective reported online September 14 in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Of 4936 surviving physicians with correct and complete address information, 2130 (43.2%) responded to the survey.

Public and private options were supported by 62.9% of physicians, whereas 27.3% supported private options only. Across all demographic subgroups, specialties, practice locations, and practice types, 57.4% or more supported inclusion of a public option. A public option was most favored by primary care providers (65.2%) and least likely to be supported by physicians in specialties with less regular direct patient contact (57.4%). Only 59.7% of practice owners supported a public option compared with 67.1% of nonowners (P < .001). Among American Medical Association members, 62.2% supported a public option.

More than half (58.3%) of respondents in all 4 specialty groups (primary care physicians; medical subspecialists, neurologists, and psychiatrists; surgical specialists and subspecialists; and other specialties) supported an expansion of Medicare to Americans aged 55 to 64 years.

Two of every three practicing physicians oppose the medical overhaul plan under consideration in Washington, and hundreds of thousands would think about shutting down their practices or retiring early if it were adopted, a new IBD/TIPP Poll has found.

The poll contradicts the claims of not only the White House, but also doctors’ own lobby — the powerful American Medical Association — both of which suggest the medical profession is behind the proposed overhaul.

It also calls into question whether an overhaul is even doable; 72% of the doctors polled disagree with the administration’s claim that the government can cover 47 million more people with better-quality care at lower cost.

The IBD/TIPP Poll was conducted by mail the past two weeks, with 1,376 practicing physicians chosen randomly throughout the country taking part. Responses are still coming in, and doctors’ positions on related topics — including the impact of an overhaul on senior care, medical school applications and drug development — will be covered later in this series.

Major findings included:

• Two-thirds, or 65%, of doctors say they oppose the proposed government expansion plan. This contradicts the administration’s claims that doctors are part of an “unprecedented coalition” supporting a medical overhaul.

It also differs with findings of a poll released Monday by National Public Radio that suggests a “majority of physicians want public and private insurance options,” and clashes with media reports such as Tuesday’s front-page story in the Los Angeles Times with the headline “Doctors Go For Obama’s Reform.”

Nowhere in the Times story does it say doctors as a whole back the overhaul. It says only that the AMA — the “association representing the nation’s physicians” and what “many still regard as the country’s premier lobbying force” — is “lobbying and advertising to win public support for President Obama’s sweeping plan.”

The AMA, in fact, represents approximately 18% of physicians and has been hit with a number of defections by members opposed to the AMA’s support of Democrats’ proposed health care overhaul.

• Four of nine doctors, or 45%, said they “would consider leaving their practice or taking an early retirement” if Congress passes the plan the Democratic majority and White House have in mind.

More than 800,000 doctors were practicing in 2006, the government says. Projecting the poll’s finding onto that population, 360,000 doctors would consider quitting.

Grim Prognosis From Doctors Opposed To Health Care Plan

Gov’t Can’t Run Diddly

Others pointed to the troubles with government-run Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, which are all verging on insolvency and now account for an estimated $51 trillion in unfunded liabilities over the next half-century.

Government-funded rail was a favorite foil — so was the Cash for Clunkers program. The House health bill “is 1,200-plus pages of miniature and legalese,” joked one eye-sore physician. “Please recall 130 pages of forms for each ‘cash for clunkers’ transaction!”

“Government control? Give me a break,” said another. “Look what they’ve done to Social Security, the Post Office, the bailouts, etc. Medicare and Medicaid are not paying doctors enough, and the paperwork to participate is huge.”

Other irate docs agreed: “Government has proven unable to manage many other programs, including Social Security, Medicare, and the postal service. Why do they think they can (run) a health care program?”

“Government health care will wipe out the private insurance companies,” said another. “Most of the doctors in private practice will give up … because of a low reimbursement from the government. The Medicare, Medicaid program is a good example of government-run health care.”

Still others railed against what they saw as the real villains: insurance companies. Anger at insurance companies, which are now the main brake on health care costs, was plentiful.

“Between the government and insurance companies, I now only collect 28% to 30% of billed charges. No other business can function at that rate,” this doctor added.

As many noted, all of the plans now being discussed would require massive tax hikes — and debt.

The IBD poll was pure trash. Every major pollster denounced it. IBD wouldn’t reveal source and methods of a poll which is always done.

The authoritative doctor’s poll was in the NEJM a publication Michael Smith hs never seen and wouldn’t know from his butt and couldn’t begin to understand.

Nah, Obama isn’t pushing healthcare – like a losing football team in the fourth quart isn’t going for the proverbial Hail Mary.

Obama makes healthcare pitch on 5 networks

The president touches on a wide range of subjects but focuses on his healthcare overhaul plan. Fear of ‘big changes’ is behind much of the criticism he faces, he says.

NEJM is the most prestigious medical journal in the world and the most difficult to get published in. It has statisticians on its board and pollsters. IBD does not, and IBD is completely unreliabld for news–it’s known for its stock charts and its news and editorials are right wing whackjob.

All polling sources and methods are revealed here. No polling sources and methods are revealed by the farce in IBD. Pollsters rushed to trash IBD’s poll, but Repubozos don’t read. No Republican doctor I know buys the IBD poll but they all buy the NEJM poll. Doctors weren’t chosen by party in the NEJM poll, but they were by IBD.

One of many criticisms of IBD’s joke by a professional pollster who makes 6 figures analyzing polls and another 6 figures consulting to major league baseball:

1. The survey was conducted by mail, which is unusual. The only other mail-based poll that I’m aware of is that conducted by the Columbus Dispatch, which was associated with an average error of about 7 percentage points — the highest of any pollster that we tested.

2. At least one of the questions is blatantly biased: “Do you believe the government can cover 47 million more people and it will cost less money and th quality of care will be better?”. Holy run-on-sentence, Batman? A pollster who asks a question like this one is not intending to be objective.

3. As we learned during the Presidntial campaign — when, among other things, they had John McCain winning the youth vote 74-22 — the IBD/TIPP polling operation has literally no idea what they’re doing. I mean, literally none. For example, I don’t trust IBD/TIPP to have competently selected anything resembling a random panel, which is harder to do than you’d think.

4. They say, somewhat ambiguously: “Responses are still coming in.” This is also highly unorthodox. Professional pollsters generally do not report results before the survey period is compete.

5. There is virtually no disclosure about methodology. For example, IBD doesn’t bother to define the term “practicing physician”, which could mean almost anything. Nor do they explain how their randomization procedure worked, provide the entire question battery, or anything like that.

My advice would be to completely ignore this poll. There are pollsters out there that have an agenda but are highly competent, and there are pollsters that are nonpartisan but not particularly skilled. Rarely, however, do you find the whole package: that special pollster which is both biased and inept. IBD/TIPP is one of the few exceptions.

Talking to Smith is like trying to reason with a 6 year old. The poll was not released Monday by NPR. It was put on line by the NEJM the most prestigious medical journal in the worlld totally controlled by physicians, with all physicians on the medical board, and a distinguished physician as its full time editor. NPR did a story on it. NPR is a radio station with a web site.

The facts on the ground. AMA is 16.66666% of physicians. None of us joins it for the politics. We join it mainly to have full access to JAMA (it’s journal’s search for educational purposes). None of us has supported its mangement’s politics for years. AMA is outwardly in support of reform, but is actively working to fund lobbyists to kill it.

The NEJM is one of the top medical journals in the world, and always read by doctors to see what it publishes since it publishes studies and discoveries of major significance.

None of the figures Smith babbles about have any serious significance, and you won’t find his lies in any healthcare article in any major medical journal edited by physicians.

Smith is not a doctor, and he knows nothing about medicine or what doctors think. 2/3 doctors support a public option and my figures were from the NEJM poll.

You won’t see Smith with a counter t’o the NEJM poll because he doesn’t know what the NEJM is or where to find it and has never held one. He couldn’t interpret one article.

And Smith is childish in his superficial view of Medicare and the Post Office.

Congress runs the post office and crippled it with its byzantine rules that the post office has to run by hamstringing its finances. The post office also has taken a major hit because digital transmission of mail and documents has become pandemic. Only a fool doesn’t understand this.

Medicare is stupidly criticized by Repubozotards like Smith, and Medicare was crippled specifically by Republicans in 2003 who passed a law forbidding it to competitively bid for drugs in Part D and has caused it to be heading for the red in 8 years. We are going to fix that this year with health care law.

Every hospital that’s private competitively bids for its drug purchases via consortium. The Republicans led by Bill Frist in 2003 crippled Medicare’s finances because they are hookers for the pharmaceutical industry. The secret deal brokered by Senate Finance Six (whose bill is dead on arrival right now) with pharmaceutical companies would continue to wreck medicare. That’s why Rockerfeller and 25% of the Senate on that committee filed amendments to prevent the Repubozotards from continuing to cripple Medicare and stop the donut and out of pocket for Seniors in Part D.

Smith, like a child has knowledge of none of these specifics.

Glad to inform you of reality–from an MD.

Not only do 2/3 of us support a public option, but we’re working to get it passed and we will, because we’ve had it with insurance companies screwing up the way we treat patients and killing our patients by dropping them when they get significant illnesses like breast cancer.

Two doctors who are out in left field and quit practicing medicine are Price and Gingrey and their lack of ideas and intent to bankrupt middle class families and their hooker stance towards pharmaceutical and insurance companies is so egregiously blatant the White House has told them they have no interest in spending a second with them.

Go Falcons 2-0. Better defense today and Gonzales was Gonzales.
