In fact, I will say that it is reasonable men such as himself that have kept me from registering Independent. The Republican Party isn't going to start winning elections by chasing out moderate members. Poll after poll shows that Americans do not buy into "conservative values." They never did. Republican victories were not obtained through hard-line conservatism - I don't care how many times Rush Limbaugh claims that to be the fact. President Reagan won because he was able to appeal to moderates and independents who were dissatisfied with Carter. President Bush appealed to moderates and independents who were dissatisfied with Clinton and Gore. Republican political candidates have won despite being conservative because they reached out to the middle and center-left. Elections are won near the center, not at the fringes.
