Our beloved Sarah Palin, the woman who is single-handedly responsible for driving 32,416 lefties to the ledge, where they are determined to remain until she consents to buy her entire wardrobe from Wal-Mart, is among those Alaskans who think former U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens got a raw deal.
She and others there believe Democrat Mark Begich, the former mayor of Anchorage who defeated Stevens after he was convicted of conspiracy, should help to undo the wrong done Stevens by stepping aside in favor of a special election. “Alaskans deserve to have a fair election not tainted by some announcement that one of the candidates was convicted fairly of seven felonies, when in fact it wasn’t a fair conviction,” the governor told the Anchorage Daily News.
U.S. Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) said on Fox News that Stevens "would have won hands down" but for the convictions on Oct. 27, just days before the General Election. Despite the convictions, Stevens only lost by just over 1 percentage point — suggesting that Young’s right.
President Obama promised "change you can believe in." The Democrat Begich could give substance to the President’s empty slogans by agreeing to help right the injustice done the old pork barreler Stevens. Begich should step down and take Stevens on, fair and square.
Should we start a national campaign to put Stevens back in the U.S. Senate? There’s no time to wait. The poor suffering soul is halfway through his 80s and cannot long wait for justice to be done. Send him back to Washington.

Didn’t you just write a couple days ago that the Senate was better without Stevens? Ah, nothing like a good dose of hypocrisy to begin the day. Yes, the Republicans can draw out an election for months in Minnesota that Franken rightfully won, but a Democrat has to surrender his seat in Alaska over a contest that was also rightfully won. Great thinking there, Wooten. Stevens shouldn’t have been involved with illegal activities if he didn’t want the voters to pass judgment. Yes, the case was dropped on a technicality, but we all know Stevens was on the dole. And here’s a little more hypocrisy for you- Palin called for Stevens to step down leading up to the election. What do you have to say about that, Hick? Republicans have no integrity; in elections they lose they want endless do-overs at the expense of the tax payers, and in the ones they win under false pretenses they’ll fight tooth and nail to keep from having a legitimate recount (just ask Al Gore). The Republican Party- no integrity, out of touch, out of ideas, and out of power for the next 20 years. Can’t wait for 2010 when the Democrats’ margins in both house will continue to widen.

It’s now very obvious why Jimbo is retiring. He’s just plain lost his mind! Oh, wait… He never had one to begin with. The “Alaskin Hillbilly” and the rest of the GOP wanted Stevens to resign to make it seem that she was tough on corruption. But we all know how tough she was don’t we?

Jim what no mention to no transportation relief but the tax cuts doled out under the golden dome. Where is the outrage! You ask us to leave Plain alone yet you keep her in the media. Why did you not mention why he was not charged? it was the democrats that dropped the case not the republicans who trumped them up. What no mention of all the governors now knocking down the White House doors to get the Stimulus money. Ah look at them run with their hands out. Their lobbyist buddies told them what they could do with the money so now they want it.

Governor Palin again proves that she is a leader and public servant of the highest caliber of integrity.
Stevens indeed got a raw deal — as did the democratic process itself. If Begich had even a shred of integrity, he would not contest a special election to right this obvious wrong.
But don’t wait for integrity from the “change you’ll die waiting for” Obama Democrats. Obama is a man, after all, who won his first election by getting his opponent kicked off the ballot in Chicago. He alienated millions of Hillary Clinton voters last year by lobbying the DNC to throw her victories in Florida and Michigan out the window.
Obama has never treated the democratic process with respect. I’m afraid that he and his allies aren’t about to begin now.

Jim,
I believe the best solution would be a recall effort. Get enough Alaskans to agree and then they can vote on it. They could do what they did in California and make it a two-parter: 1- Should the 2008 results be voided, and 2- Who do you want as your Senator?

Today’s topic is typical of the Repubs and their being “lost in the wilderness.”
The subject is an oxymoron within itself; Palin wants justice for something, but not for herself?
Just what does what justice does Gov. Palin want and for whom?
The voters of Alaska determined the election without having to resort to a recount or having a contested election because of voter fraud.
Dubya and his criminal Justice Department built the case against Sen. Stevens.
Now, the Repubs want Pres. Obama to have another state election in Alaska – which is illegal – to correct a perceived error in the outcome of an election for a Republican senator in a Republican state.
Obfuscation, conflation and utter nonsense.

The second sentence of the headline of this “story” is not at all backed up in the story. Sarah Palin is clearly playing politics on the Stevens issue but that is what all politicians do and it certainly has nothing to do with “justice” for her personally. Why don’t you write about all the frivilous lawsuits being waged against Palin to put the word Justice in its correct light?

Boetie what about all of the other elections that are being help up by Republicans. Do you not understand that it was Obama’s people who got the case thrown out against Stevens in the first place. Where have you been. The change seems to be in the republicans. First they don’t want then they want. Let’s look at Georgia where they cntrol the state. Do they approved a transportation measure no. They give tax breaks to the wealthy. Only in Georgia.

Well, why can’t we have a do-over in Alaska, is what I want to know? I’m all for do-overs every time a librul Democrat gets elected to something. We could keep doing over and doing over till a godly Conservative gets elected. The libruls will just give up and vote Republican on account of getting tired of going to the polls.
I see the nut cases are starting to whine again about gun control just because some guy in New York and another one in Pittsburgh kilt a few people. It never fails. If a dog with rabies gets kilt these libruls will start moaning about needing gun control laws.
Me, I think we need to do what the people in Kennesaw done a few years ago. Pass a law that makes everybody have a gun. I’d go one step past that. I think we need a law that says everybody needs to pack heat when outdoors.
Now I know my idea will scare a few wimps. But you can bet that if a criminal sees somebody like Sister Dusty walking toward him with a Glock on one of them ham hips he will start trembling. Crime will just go away.
I’m putting on a heavy jacket to deal with this global warming all the libruls whine about. We might could see some snow up here in Forsyth County tonight. Have a good day everybody.

There should be no special treatment for Steven’s. Either Begich volunteers for a new election, which will not happen, or a recall is successfully executed. These are the lawful means of recourse.
Can’t believe folks are still on the Bush/Gore rant. There has never been an election so completely analyzed, and each new study, regardless of the sponsoring party showed Bush won. These studies didn’t even take into account the media blunder when Gore was projected as winner before the polls were closed in the panhandle of the state. This is a very populated area and the most conservative part of the state.
Get over Gore and enjoy your new leaders glory while you can. All these bills are going to come due someday.

‘Bridge to Nowhere’ Senator wronged
7:52 am April 2, 2009, by jwooten
Truth is, the nation’s far better off with a pork-barrel politician like Ted Stevens, the Alaska Republican, out of the U.S. Senate.
After being convicted on seven felony counts just before last November’s election, the six-term “Bridge to Nowhere” senator was defeated by Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich by just over 1 percentage point, or some 3,000 votes. Stevens, the longest-serving Republican in Senate history, was convicted in Washington on Oct. 27, days before the General Election, on seven counts of failing to disclose gifts and home renovations valued at more than $250,000 from a wealthy oil contractor. He awaits sentencing.
The shocking news now is that the U.S. Justice Department is asking a federal judge to dismiss the indictment against Stevens and to set aside his conviction based on prosecutor misconduct. The final straw was acknowledgment that prosecutors had failed to inform Stevens’ defense, as required, that a key witness, Bill Allen, said in an interview last April that he did not recall talking to a mutual friend about handing Stevens a bill for the work. At trial, however, he testified that he did have that conversation. Stevens’ lawyers were not informed of the contradiction.
“I have determined that it is in the interest of justice to dismiss the indictment and not proceed with a new trial,” said Attorney General Eric Holder Wednesday.
The Senate’s a better place without Stevens. But there’s no justice that can repair the damage done. The felony convictions cost him a seat in the U.S. Senate and, but for Holder’s decision, could have cost him his freedom as well. This is as scary as misuse of power gets.
It’s premature to speculate on whether prosecutors were pressured to move quickly on Stevens to demonstrate that Republicans in power would deal with political corruption, even when it involved a powerful figure like Stevens just before a crucial election that could decide control of the U.S. Senate. The dismissal of the nine U.S. attorneys in 2006 doesn’t raise questions with me. This does.

I suppose there is some truth to the old adage that all is fair in love and war. Rules out policitcs, doesn’t it? May I make a suggestion with the best of intentions at heart? Forget that old adage and bring fairness back to the political process. To do this, you must reinstate God to His rightful position of Sovereign Being, put Him back in the schools, back in the streets, back in the boardrooms and back in the churches. When people start operating with a conscious again, our political process with regain meaning and true bi-partisanism.

It was a Republican DOJ that brought the charges and violated legal ethics in Stevens’ trial. If political considerations had anything to do with his indictment and trial, they were indirect: perhaps the DOJ attorneys were so incompetent because the Bush administration eschewed qualified candidates from top law schools in favor of those who were like-minded politically.
It was Stevens himself who demanded a trial before the November election, so that he could be exonerated before the voters went to the polls. Given the close post-verdict outcome, had Stevens been merely indicted, rather than convicted, he probably would have won.
During the campaign, Governor Palin never proclaimed that she supported Stevens or that she thought he was unfairly charged. In fact, nearly her entire political persona consisted of her opposition to “corrupt” elements within her own party, such as Stevens, Murkowski and Young. While quoting Young, you omitted his statement that the idea of a new Senate election is lunacy and that Stevens would best serve Alaska by running against Palin.
It was a Democractic DOJ that dropped the charges and chose not to re-try Stevens (which they have every right to do). The underlying facts of the case have not changed. The addition to Stevens’ house, among other things, is tangible evidence of his corruption.
Now, the party that emotes about sticking to the original words of our Constitutional framers wants to fabricate an extra-Constitutional “do-over,” because it doesn’t like the election result.

Palin camp responds to Levi Johnston
Bristol Palin’s ex boyfriend and father of her baby, Tripp, went on the Tyra Banks show this week and spilled secrets, including that he thinks Sarah Palin knew the two were together in the biblical sense. This, obviously, did not go over well with the Palin camp who released the following:
“Bristol did not even know Levi was going on the show. We’re disappointed that Levi and his family, in a quest for fame, attention, and fortune, are engaging in flat-out lies, gross exaggeration, and even distortion of their relationship,” says the statement from the Palin family rep, Meghan Stapleton.
“Bristol’s focus will remain on raising Tripp, completing her education, and advocating abstinence,” the statement continues. “It is unfortunate that Levi finds it more appealing to exploit his previous relationship with Bristol than to contribute to the well being of the child.”
The statement ends, saying, “Bristol realizes now that she made a mistake in her relationship and is the one taking responsibility for their actions.”

Politics are a dirty thing. I have no doubt there were crooked dealing going on here. If we could all really know what truly happens behind closed doors. If Begich truly has the support of the people, he should have no hesitation in facing a fair election. His refusal to do so says it all. Why would Gov. Palin go out on a limb for Stevens? Never mind they don’t have a case, just make headlines so it will destroy their chances of getting elected. Those who don’t drink the koolade are now aware of these tactics and they are going to become harder to pull off in the future. This is from a Sept. 1,2008 release, where Palin wanted Uncle Ted to resign:
(Political Animal) PALIN AND STEVENS…. On Friday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told CNN, “Gov. Palin took on Ted Stevens. If she can take him on, she can take on the Russians. Heh.” He liked the line so much, Graham repeated it on ABC News yesterday, saying, “If you can take on Ted Stevens and that crowd in Alaska, you can handle the Russians.”
On its face, it’s an unusually inane thing to say. Unless Ted Stevens is a nuclear power with autocratic tendencies, the analogy is rather a childish one for a United States senator to make on national television.
But more to the point, Graham’s just wrong. Palin didn’t “take on” the allegedly corrupt Alaskan senator; she allied herself with him throughout her brief political career. That includes, we learned today, Palin’s work on Stevens’ 527 group.
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin began building clout in her state’s political circles in part by serving as a director of an independent political group organized by the now embattled Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens.
In the grand scheme of things, this is probably not the most serious of revelations. It’s interesting, I suppose, to connect Palin to one of the more scandal-plagued lawmakers in Washington, but most Americans probably don’t even know who Ted Stevens is.
More importantly, though, doesn’t it seem as if the McCain campaign’s talking points on Palin need a complete overhaul?
The McCain campaign said Palin opposed the infamous “bridge to nowhere.” That’s false. The campaign said Palin supported the Bush “surge” policy. That’s false. The campaign said Palin is the “commander in chief” of the Alaska National Guard. That’s misleading. The campaign said Palin is qualified on foreign policy because she lives in a state near Russia. That’s dumb.
And the campaign boasted about Palin “taking on” Stevens, and that’s wrong. Did the person who wrote the talking points have any idea who Sarah Palin is?

In an interview recorded this morning for CNBC, set to air at closing bell of the market today, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin calls for Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, to step down.
“A sad day for Alaska yesterday when he was found guilty of seven felonies,” she says. “But — and now he needs to do the right thing, and the right thing is, as he’s proclaiming his innocence and proclaiming, too, that he will go through the appellate process, OK, then he needs to step aside and allow our state to elect someone who will be supportive of those ideals of America: the free enterprise, the missions that we’re on, to win the war, those things that have got to take place in order to progress this country. It’s been mentioned a couple of times, but just to be clear: the NEW head of the Department of Justice, appointed by Obama, dismissed the indictment due to Department of Justice prosecutors, appointed by Bush II, illegally withholding evidence.
And this action says nothing about whether Stevens was guilty or not. He was found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and it is not clear that this information would have changed the jury’s verdict. It only shows that the NEW head of the Department of Justice is willing to dismiss a case to avoid even the appearance of approving such impropriety and prosecutorial misconduct…even if they weren’t prosecutors he appointed.
