The event often draws more than 100,000 people a year and is considered the largest New Year’s gathering in the Southeast. For many folks, it’s the only time of year they actually go to Underground.

Past headliners have included Atlanta’s own Collective Soul, Sister Hazel, Edwin McCain, Lonestar, Miranda Lambert, Julianne Hough and Little Richard.

Morris Day will hit the stage at 11:15 p.m.

Chris Brown cancels Twitter account after profanity-filled tirade

R&B singer Chris Brown canceled his Twitter account after a weekend of angry rants against the music industry.

His “MechanicalDummy” Twitter account is no longer visible (of course, it could have been record label Jive stepping in) but recently there were increasing signs of frustration. The AJC’s Buzz noticed just last week that he posted a Tweet effectively telling his haters to stop the “bulls***” (it was spelled out). He immediately followed up with a Tweet apologizing to his “young fans” for the cursing.

A few weeks before that, we saw that his Twitter account mysteriously posted a comment criticizing the performance of rapper Jay-Z (who discovered Chris’s ex Rihanna and was extremely critical of Chris after the beating earlier this year) during an awards show. Just as quickly the Tweet was removed and Chris followed up saying he didn’t write the comment.

But over the weekend Chris went on a potty-mouthed Twitter rampage against record stores, claiming they …

The TV show has created a cult-like following in just one season. Listen to some of the reasons why.

Jimmy Buffett, “Buffet Hotel”

Parrotheads have new music to worship. The singer/songwriter’s latest CD includes 12 new singles and a 24-page booklet.

The Clipse, “Til the Casket Drops”

buffetcdGucci Mane, “The State vs. Radric Davis”

The Atlanta rapper, who had his CD release party last night at Esso, has had his share of legal woes recently. Could that be marketing tie-ins with the album title?

Chris Brown revs up Atlanta fans

There’s nothing like a room full of screaming teenagers to remind you of your place in the generational chain. (See photos)

CenterStage in Midtown Atlanta was full of exactly that Wednesday night when Chris Brown brought his “Fan Appreciation” tour to Atlanta. Apparently, die-hard fans included tweens, teens, some college kids and a few adult chaperones (we even caught a few in the under-5 set).

The audience crowded the open floor early to position themselves in phone-cam range. Reps fed the frenzy with a callout to text a special number with the songs they wanted to hear. The abandoned coats and bags in many of the stationary seats completed the school pep rally feel – and made assigned tickets worthless.

But let’s be honest, as a friend reminded me, “This is their night.” The over-25 crowd may not be Brown’s target demo, but I’m not so far removed that I don’t remember the first tastes of freedom. Being dropped off and …

CD releases: Nov. 23-24 include Rihanna, Adam Lambert, Susan Boyle

We usually get a mix of major releases and box sets or reissues just in time for holiday shopping. Here are some of the new CD releases for Nov. 23 and 24.

rihannaSusan Boyle, “I Dreamed a Dream”

This Brit singer took the world, and most notably Simon Cowell, by storm on “Britain’s Got Talent” competition this summer. She was runner-up

Beyonce, “I Am … Yours. An Intimate Performance a the Wynn Las Vegas”

This CD/DVD is related to the “Sasha Fierce” deluxe reissue with bonus tracks. Not sure how much “bonus” there is though.

James Brown, “The Godfather’s Smackdown: Live!”

This CD/DVD pulls from the late performer’s 1980 U.S. tour. But the title alone might be worth the buy.

Bill Cosby, “Bill Cosby Presents the Cosnarati: State of Emergency”

It’s being touted as a socially conscious rap album. Knowing Cosby’s history, we’re sure it will ruffle at least a few feathers.

Bob Dylan, “Christmas in the Heart”

Holiday music with bonus CD

Lady …

Adam Lambert, J Lo, Taylor Swift set off firestorm at AMAs 2009

lambertWhat do “American Idol” alum Adam Lambert, country starlet Taylor Swift and singer/actress J. Lo have in common? They all count as most memorable moments for the 2009 American Music Awards (Red carpet photosShow photos).

  • Let’s start with the final act. The eyeliner wearing, glamtastic Lambert brought the show to a screeching halt. Literally. (Read AJC blogger Rodney Ho’s run-down of “Idol” vets including Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Paula Abdul and Ryan Seacrest). His dominatrix-like performance, capped by a dancer’s face getting extra cozy with him – below the belt – lit Twitter up. People were shocked and awed by the audaciously “sexy” moves and some parents were reportedly not thrilled with ABC.
  • Swift continues her country music ascension, claiming five awards including Entertainer of the Year. Even though she was in London, she accepted the awards via satellite and just as surprised each and every single time.
  • In a bit of comic relief, …

Janet Jackson confirms break-up with Jermaine Dupri

Pop star Janet Jackson admits that she and Atlanta super producer Jermaine Dupri are just friends.

In a primetime interview Wednesday with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts, she said, “I adore him. Love him to death.” In fact, Dupri, whom she dated for about seven years, was the one who taught her to love her … assets. She said he taught her that there’s nothing wrong with her body – curves and all (he just picked up some extra points with that move).

Speaking from her Malibu beach house looking amazingly beautiful in a winter white fitted dress, Jackson, 43, also spoke candidly about her family and brother Michael’s death in June.

“You have to accept what is, but it’s hard.” She said that the family tried interventions to stop Michael’s drug use several times but she felt like he was in denial.

She’s still soft-spoken and seemingly shy, admitting that she gets embarrassed when people stare at her. “I’m in the wrong business.”

Roberts took …
