morris dayMorris Day and the Time will be doing “The Bird” and “Jungle Love” for the masses at Underground Atlanta New Year’s Eve.

The group, best known as Prince’s proteges, always give an energetic show and will headline the 21st annual event, which is free. The event often draws more than 100,000 people a year and is considered the largest New Year’s gathering in the Southeast. For many folks, it’s the only time of year they actually go to Underground.

Past headliners have included Atlanta’s own Collective Soul, Sister Hazel, Edwin McCain, Lonestar, Miranda Lambert, Julianne Hough and Little Richard.

Morris Day will hit the stage at 11:15 p.m.

The new Funny Farm Comedy Club ’soft opening’ this weekend

The Funny Farm Comedy Club, shut down earlier this year at the now defunct Startime Entertainment in Roswell, has a “soft opening” this weekend at Andretti Indoor Karting & Games, a half mile from the original site. The address: 11000 Alpharetta Highway, Roswell.

The ticket prices this weekend are $10 for Marshall Chiles & Friends. Chiles operates both the Funny Farm and the Laughing Skull Lounge in Midtown. You can get free passes if you sign up on the Web site

The first major headlining act will be “Last Comic Standing” winner Alonzo Bodden (left) on New Year’s Eve weekend, followed next month by Tom Green, Carl LaBove and Richard Lewis.

At 200 seats, the venue is smaller than the old venue, which seated 270. Chiles said he could fit up to 250 but chose to space out the tables so it’s not as cramped as, say, the Punchline. There is another room that fits up to 350 if the club needs it for bigger acts.

Two hours and a lot of makeup turns Peter Facinelli into Dr. Carlisle Cullen

Two hours and a lot of makeup turns Peter Facinelli into Dr. Carlisle Cullen

Peter Facinelli is way less pasty in person.

“Do I look like this guy?” he said, holding up a publicity shot of him all done up as Dr. Carlisle Cullen, the wise, compassionate head of a vampire clan in the “Twilight” series. He’s not worried, in other words, about being typecast.

“I’d be more worried if I looked like him,” said Facinelli, also starring these days as Dr. Fitch Cooper in “Nurse Jackie,” the Showtime series.

He was in town over the weekend to greet ardent fans at the Mall at Stonecrest in Lithonia, who brought books and movie posters for him to sign.

“I enjoy interacting with the fans,” Facinelli said. “There’s an energy that just feeds me.”

(Heh heh, “feeds me.” Get it?)

On a serious note we asked Facinelli, married to actress Jennie Garth and the dad of three daughters, if he’s concerned about his girls watching “Twilight” movies or reading the books. In the most recent flick, “New …
