Tyler Perry earns “Razzie” nominations for worst actor and worst actress

0113014904909_210X270Tyler Perry has earned a slew of  “Razzie” nominations, including both “worst actor” and “worst actress” for his role in “Alex Cross” and “Madea’s Witness Protection.”

Here’s a link to our interview with Perry to discuss “Alex Cross.”

In the Madea movie he appears in wig, dress and body padding as his wise-cracking, gun-toting alter ego.

The Razzies also nominated Perry for worst director for “Good Deeds” and “Madea’s Witness Protection” and Perry and “his drag getup” for worst screen couple. Ouch. The Razzies really don’t like him, do they? (In case there’s any doubt, note how the Razzies site repeatedly refers to “Madea’s Witless Protection.”)

The Razzies, which release their picks just before the annual Oscar nods come out, are satirical awards meant to “dishonor” what the outfit’s nominating committee believes are the worst films and worst performances of the year. Here’s a link to their entire list of nominees.

In other Atlanta-centric Razzies news, Jennifer Lopez and Brooklyn Decker each earned worst supporting actress nominations for their roles in “What To Expect When You’re Expecting,” which was filmed in and set in Atlanta.

Also earning a worst screen couple nomination was “any combination of two cast members from ‘Jersey Shore,’” from “The Three Stooges,” which was filmed here but not set here. The “Jersey Shore” crew shows up toward the end of the movie, playing themselves but not paired off in any way. Looks like the Razzie folks were just having fun by throwing in Snooki an’nem.

Crazy, total BS. Tyler is able to take on any role. Alex Cross may, in your opinion, may not have been to the level Tyler normally puts out, but there were may actors that played roles that stunk up the place for sure. Tyler, anything you put out in any capacity, we’ll be first in line. Do
your thing!! JWW

Why do so many of the Atlanta-filmed movies suck? Recently saw “Trouble with the Curve,” and it was painful, even though I love Amy Adams. Seriously: that last Jason Bateman/Ryan Reynolds movie, The Watch, What to Expect…everything is terrible except the TV shows like The Walking Dead and The Vampire Diaries.

A: That is an excellent and timely point. In fact many Atlanta movies made various media outlets’ lists of “worst movies of 2012.” Here’s more information:
http://blogs.ajc.com/the-buzz/2012/12/10/made-in-atlanta-flicks-make-worst-movies-of-2012-lists/

I don’t think the issue is bad movies being made in Atlanta per se. I think it’s more an issue of many movies are bad and they just happen to be made in Atlanta now.

Madea’s Witness Protection was one of the few Madea movies that I actually liked.

Make fun of Tyler Perry all you want but Madea keeps pulling pulling out wads of cash from her bra and making deposits at the bank.

By the few number of bloggers on here, it is an indication of how many people really care! Especially about those inane Perry movies and the poorly written movies that have filmed here.

Tyler brings in tons of money to the Atlanta area. Razzies or no Razzies he’s a money maker and helps in the community.

Tyler Perry’s movies, like Adam Sandler’s movies, are not Oscar worthy. Tons of people, white and black, love them. I am glad Tyler is helping to keep the actors in Atlanta employed.

I love how Tyler Perry always brags about sitting down and writing the script in one day….yeah buddy & it shows. His problem is he started out with those whack stage plays and still thinks that the over the top stuff is needed for the movies. It’s different TP, stage & film are not the same.
Plus imo he appeals to a certain group; hate to say it but his movies are most certainly for non-thinking people. i.e overly religious types who actually know a ‘madea’.character in real life. His movies are not funny, well written or directed and in all cases poorly acted. Even when he has big names. I’m still mad at Angela Bassett for staring in one of these things. He directs everyone to put on the worst acting jobs ever. I know, I know…I’m just being a jealous hater right? lol. But unlike most of his fan base, I actually prefer movies, with plots and subplots and interesting characters.
So TP should either, write, produce, direct or act but not try to do all. Why would he want to be a jack of all trades but master of none? Make it a great day.

The should rename the razzies the Perrys. He is a horrible ego-maniac crappy actor. Why is every one of his movies/shows titled Tyler Perry’s meet the browns, Tyler Perry’s whatever? No other writer, producer, director does that. We dont hear Jeffrey Lurie’s Two and a half men etc. Tyler is quite the douche.

No, there aren’t more bad movies being made now. In fact, many of the movies made now are better than they have ever been. It is just that studios see Georgia’s tax incentives as an opportunity to cheaply make their crap. They make the good stuff in more interesting locations.

Now giving Tyler Perry a Razzie… I think that being racist.

Sometimes a movie is about going in, sitting down and suspending belief for a couple of hours of entertainment. Every movie doesn’t have to be socially significant or qualify for Masterpiece Theatre! I enjoy a well crafted movie with amazing acting and tight story lines as much as anyone but I also just like to go in and put the mind in neutral and roll with the flow sometimes. Last time I looked, no one was forcing me or anyone else into any movie. If you don’t like it, don’t go. Obviously *someone* (actually a lot of someones!) like Tyler Perry movies as they make lots of movies.
