Al Gore to speak at Savannah Book Festival in February

Former Vice President Al Gore, the environmentalist author and filmmaker who just sold his Current TV network to Al-Jazeera for $500 million, will speak at the 2013 Savannah Book Festival.

His appearance is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. Feb. 16 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Telfair Square. “No photos or recording are permitted” during his remarks, according to festival organizers.

Al-Jazeera, the Pan-Arab news channel owned by the government of Qatar, expands its reach to about 50 million homes by acquiring Current. The network vows to hire more journalists and add U.S. news bureaus.

“Gore and his partners were eager to complete the deal by Dec. 31, lest it be subject to higher tax rates that took effect on Jan. 1, according to several people who insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly,” the New York Times reported. Ultimately the deal was reached after the new year began.

At the Savannah festival Gore, who won the Nobel Peace Prize for his environmental work and an Oscar for best documentary for “An Inconvenient Truth,” will discuss his latest book, “The Future.” It will be published Jan. 29. “In ‘The Future,’ Gore identifies the six critical drivers of global change with a frank assessment of the emerging forces that are reshaping our world,” according to festival organizers.

The event is free and open to the public. See the festival web site for more information.

I’m so sorry for The Book Festival but the organizers are generally liberal, misinformed individuals. The fact that Al Gore has any credibility at all in their minds, is just evidence of how deluded people are in the cult of personality world we live in.
