Honey Boo Boo named one of Barbara Walters’ “most fascinating people”

Barbara Walters is finna redneckonize!

The venerable journalist has named Honey Boo Boo to her 2012 list of “most fascinating people,” Us Magazine reports.

Alana Thompson joins a roster including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and filmmaker-actor Ben Affleck. Here’s the entire list.

“It’s a love story,” Walters told Us Magazine, referring to the bond between the 7-year-old and her mother, June Shannon. “The relationship between Alana and her mother, that’s the story, the two of them. It’s very touching.”

The family burst onto the national scene as a TLC show, “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,” a spinoff of “Toddlers and Tiaras.” Episodes of “Honey Boo Boo” rivaled the political conventions in terms of viewership this summer.

“Honey Boo Boo is not an obnoxious little girl,” Walters said.

Indeed not! We met Alana and her family during a trek down to McIntyre this summer. They’re nice folks – and Alana is a smart, engaging little girl. She sat down and wanted to read some of her fan letters during our visit, tackling the word “Australia” with ease when thumbing through international correspondence.

Yesterday when Jimmy Kimmel visited Atlanta we asked if Alana’s “endorsement” of President Barack Obama shortly before the election clinched a second term.

“It didn’t hurt,” Kimmel responded. “Every endorsement helps.”

It is rather disturbing that ANYBODY, much less BW, finds Honey BB fascinating.
Interesting? Humorous? Amusing? Touching? Perhaps…..but not fascinating
A sad commentary on…..errr, hmmmm….something

It’s all for show. They really are very savvy people. They are similar to the Osbornes in they appear to be a train wreck of a family but they really are good people who love each other dearly and take care of their own. The Dad still works hard at two jobs and they are taking that money and putting it back for their kid’s future.

That says it all when you talk about the society that we live in today. People are more concerned with a spoiled, rotten child than knowing about the man who has occupied the White House the past four years. Incredible …

Thank you so much for posting this! I actually had a piece that I wanted to submit to the AJC about meeting June and some other family members during Thanksgiving, as they were out raising money for charity, to absolutely no media fan fare. They were very nice and generous to us, and it’s funny to me how all of those who criticize this family so much don’t seem to take notice of times when they are collecting canned goods and toys for the less fortunate, while refusing assistance from others themselves… Glad to hear Barbara say that the story is the bond between this mother and her child. I agree 100%, and you can’t deny that Honey Boo Boo has more personality at her age than most of us could pack into a lifetime.

Mor power to her & the family. Strike while the iron is still hot. Hopefully they’re setting aside some $ for her college fund. Say what you will, but Honey Boo Boo is actully quite sharp and appears to have some brain cells.
