Tyler Perry is at work on his next movie, “Single Moms Club,” starring Nia Long.

AJC correspondent Bill Banks and AJC alum Ben Smith both sent details about the project today. Thanks guys!

From Banks: “Tyler Perry Studios is filming portions of the feature film ‘Single Mom’s Club’ throughout Avondale Estates, and several roads will periodically shut down until Dec. 5. The Waffle House was closed nearly all day on Monday. But upcoming road closures include the two westbound lanes of E. College Avenue, between Pine and Olive streets, the turn lane along E. College Avenue will be made into a westbound lane and the two east bound lanes will operate as usual. Back in April scenes from a remake of ‘Steel Magnolias’ were shot in the city.”

Earlier this year the always-busy Perry appeared as Alex Cross in the movie by the same name. Reviews weren’t great. Did you see it?

Report: Charlie Sheen donated “Scary Movie” earnings to charity

Charlie Sheen reportedly earned $250,000 for his role in the made-in-Atlanta movie “Scary Movie 5,” and donated it all away, TMZ reports.

The actor dispersed his earnings among several different charities, one of them evidently the Lindsay Lohan get-out-of-debt fund. LiLo, who’s getting panned by critics and even some of her fellow stars via Twitter for her role as Liz Taylor in the Lifetime movie “Liz & Dick,” reportedly earned $100,000 for her cameo role in “Scary Movie 5.”

Having both Sheen and Lohan in Atlanta at the same time, we thought we might hear reports of some off-screen antics but didn’t. Lohan was spotted having a glass of wine with some friends at the Midtown W during her brief stay in Atlanta (she was arrested almost the minute she returned to New York, on a charge that was later dismissed).

“Scary Movie 5″ has an April 2013 release date. Can’t wait to check this one out!

Interview: Josh Peck on the “Red Dawn” remake

chris-hemsworth-red-dawn-poster-trailerHave you read “Nothing to Envy?”

Author Barbara Demick won the 2010 BBC Samuel Johnson prize for her book about closed and secretive North Korea. The elegantly written work tells how schools and hospitals lack basic supplies. To stay alive in a collapsed economy, people learn to cook grass. Those able to defect to China learn that dogs there eat better than people back home. It’s disturbing, riveting stuff.

If you haven’t read the book and plan to, don’t watch the remake of “Red Dawn” right afterward. Otherwise the idea of rugged, technologically superior (and seemingly well-nourished) North Koreans invading out of the blue and bringing America to its knees might seem a little too ridiculous.

“Initially, China was the enemy, ” actor Josh Peck explained during an interview while he was in Atlanta promoting the remake, which is now in theaters. For political and economic reasons, the “Axis of Evil” nation proved a more suitable bad guy. “The filmmakers walked …

What a great time to be a film student in Atlanta.

Not only has Hollywood moved south, thanks to the state’s tax credits for filming projects, but a number of the industry’s on-screen and behind-the-scenes stars have made Atlanta a destination for speaking engagements.

Peter Ramsey’s long list of art-department film credits includes “Men in Black,” “Independence Day,” two of the “Shrek” movies and “Minority Report.” He directed “Rise of the Guardians,” the animated feature now in theaters.

Yet he struck a self-effacing tone during a recent visit to SCAD-Atlanta. It was one of several recent visits at different area schools that paired key industry figures with Atlanta students who are interested in film.
